Eject Function

The eject function on my MacBook Pro isn't working. It tries to eject the disc, fails, and then just reloads the disc (an audio CD).
I've tried using the eject button on the keyboard, ejecting it through iTunes, and ejecting it through the Finder.
Any thoughts on how to fix this before I go to the Apple store?

Hey spr115,
If none of the manual eject methods seem to work, the simplest way is to reserve a spot at the closest Genius Bar and ask them.
I had the same problem and they had to unscrew the bottom of my MacBook to eject e disk. It took about 15 minutes for them to fully remove the bottom, finish the job and then put the bottom back.
Hope this helped!

Hi there. Hear are some other options . Hold down for click on the track pad while restarting and keep it down all the way thru boot. Or use right click on a mouse. If it's stuck, sometimes sticking a business card in top edge of slot while trying the eject option can work.

  • How to eject a cd when the normal ejecting function doesn't respond

How do I eject a disc that doesn't respond to the normal ejecting function?

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
    2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
    3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
    4. Press COMMAND-E.
    5. If none of the above work try this:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
    /usr/bin/drutil eject.
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into single-user mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Optical Drive Constantly Looping Eject Function

Well, my optical drive is constantly looping the eject function. I am not sure what the cause of this is, but it is the result of a long time trying to get a stuck DVD out. Between the time I put the disk in and when I wanted to take it out (a few weeks) I was bumped into during airport security by a TSA representative and dropped my laptop (ouch...), so there's a good chance the drop had something to do with it. At any rate, I tried everything I could find online to no avail for getting the stuck dvd out. This morning I went through all the tricks again and it started looping its attempt to get the DVD out. Well, I decided to open up my MacBook Pro and manually open the optical drive to get my DVD out. So, I took it apart, got it out and all that jazz. I put it back together and booted up my laptop just fine. It's all working great except my optical drive is STILL looping its attempt to eject a dvd even though there's nothing in there. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that my drive is shot, so I'm probably going to find a USB drive. However, I would really like to find a way to disable my optical drive so that I'm not constantly hearing and feeling the hardware trying to push out a CD. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just remove the drive from the machine.

  • Don't see the eject function in iPhoto where it used to be...

I recently had to install a new hard drive and am working on restoring everything back in my MacBook....I downloaded iPhoto and copied my photos from my iPhone to my MacBook.  I now want to take unplug my iPhone, but cannot find where to "eject" the device like it used to be.  I am runnin OS X version 10.9.  I also tried to drag it to the trash, which didn't work and I used the Eject button on the computer and that didn't work either....
Can I now just unplug my devices without ejecting them?
    Thanks!!

No Apple removed that. Album art now displays in the left of the play window. As far as adding Cover art you can multi select all tunes in an album and add the art to all at once via Get Info

  • Eject function has disappeared on Lion

    Hi,
I've recently made a clean install of Lion on my Mac Book Core 2 Duo 2,16 Black ( after having upgrading may Ram to 3Ghz)
The strange (and very boaring) thing is that I cannot eject DVD (or either virtual discs) except by rebooting and keeping the eject button hold.
    Because :
There si no "eject" line in the File Finder menu.
There is nothing in the contextual menu.
Trying to us the eject button in the menu bar is not efficient.
Trying to use the cmd-E key is the same.
And, last but not least, there is no way to drag the icon into the trash…
    Could anyone help me ?
    Thanks
    Antoine

    Got it !!!
Answer comes from FrançoisMacG on forums.macgeneration.com (in french) :
go to the Library (Finder >  press alt),
    then in Preferences,
    trash the file    com.apple.finder.plist
    and reboot.
    It works fine.
Thanks a lot to all of you.

  • "The iPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use..."

My iPod (20 gb, 4 gen) syncs fine, but when I go to eject it a window pops up saying "the iPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."
Unfortunately, there are no files on it (that I know of) that are being used by another application.
I can't use the eject function on the task bar because I have Vista and it will corrupt the iPod. I've just been unplugging it with out ejecting, but was hoping there was a solution. Any advice?

Are you running any anti-virus or spyware detection software in the background? Start closing programs located in the taskbar next to the clock and try ejecting the iPod.

  • Aluminum keyboard eject button does not work on Windows XP

I'm wondering if anyone else has the same issue:
the eject disk button on my new aluminum keyboard does not work in Windows XP (Boot Camp).
As I have a Mac Pro, there is no way of manually opening and closing the tray-loading Superdrive.
I can open the drive if I right-click "My Computer>DVD drive>Eject" but there is no way of closing it back. I am obviously not a Windows XP expert, are there ways of mapping the eject function to any key?

Actually, how does Software Update figure out what apps you have available for update?
I always thought that Software Update looks at your /Library/Receipts to check what Apple pkgs you have for update, so I assumed that any Apple-related Pkg would be updated. I may be totally wrong on this, correct me if that is so...but thanks for the info.

  • Powerbook G4 won't start up, can't eject DVD

While watching a bootleg DVD, I got a black error box telling me in at least languages to restart my computer (I had never seen this error format before). I hit the power button, and instead of the normal rebooting sound, I heard 3 tones, followed by the sound of the DVD spinning, and only a black screen. The white power light on the front edge of the computer blinks 4 times rapidly, then stays on for about 10 seconds, then blinks again.
I have tried restarting many times, and only once got the normal Apple chime. I tried several of the tricks to eject the disk (holding down the mousepad, hitting the eject button).
    Any advice is welcome!

There should be a button just inside the drive slot on the right hand side you can use a paper clip to manually eject the Disk....
Only on the original Ti PowerBooks. Later 'books have no manual eject function and fishing with a paperclip could do serious damage.

  • Auto eject never works with Import & Eject

    *iTunes: v7.6.2.9*
    *Windows: XP*
I've used iTunes on Windoze for several years now. One thing that I have never been able to get working is the automatic eject function in *"Import and Eject."* I can eject the disk manually by clicking on the eject button in iTunes, so I know it works from the program. But it never does it automatically. Kind of a pain when you're ripping a lot of audio CD's.
Any idea how I might fix this?
    Thanks!!

Gosh, does *no one* have any ideas or clues about how to fix this problem??

  • Ejecting a disk with third party keyboard. Suloution

    Hi,
Can it be done in 10.4 it was possible in 10.3 and lower?
    Yes
The suloution is to use both the ALT and F12 at the same time.
It used to be F12 but that is now being used for Dashboard.
Am making this article since Apple unfortunatly does not have this in their Knowledge base.
I hope it helps you all who use non-apple keyboards on Mac OSX 10.4
I hope that this makes it to a user supported article.

I think you may have misunderstood. (Gasp! Dare I say this to someone with so many posts
I was commenting mainly on the fact that if I press and hold the F12 button to reveal the dashboard it shows dashboard and then it disappears when I let go. Just like when I press and hold F9, expose tiles all of my windows and then goes back to the previous state when I let go. (Assumably the expose functionality is the same regardless of keyboard type)
But if pressing and holding the F12 key ejects a CD/DVD from the drive, and pressing the single key once activates dashboard, there is the change.
(I'm still not saying this very well)
What I mean is that those without an eject key cannot reveal and hide dashboard by only pressing and realeasing the F12 button once. It has to be tapped to reveal and tapped to hide because the hold function is taken up by the eject function.
I hope I'm making sense here

  • My DVD writer's drive on my Pavillion DV6000 stopped functioning. It's listed on My computer. Help?

    Hi,
The dvd writer is listed in My Computer (Vista Home premium) but it does not work. Pushing the eject button only flashes but nothing happens. The eject function from anywhere in vista does not work. I get an I/O error. Any ideas?

    Thank you!
I wouldn't waste the speed of firewire on only a DVD/CD Reader (ie a DVD/CD ROM) - if that's what you're talking about. I would say that it would be the Recorder/Burner and recording software that would benefit the most from the speed increase, since it's doing the hardest work.
Unless it was that you wanted to put the DVD/CD ROM (the reader) inside the Mac and you wanted to use the other burner elsewhere (then putting the Pioneer in the now vacant FW case). If not, then you already have two good drives, why waste money on duplicating what you already have. All an external Firewire anything is is an external firewire case with a drive of some sort inside it (whether hard drive or dvd/cd, etc), and I've often found that the quality of the internal drives of many external cases leave a lot to be desired. And you often pay more for a completed setup like that. I prefer to put together my own - I usually save money and as noted before, get much better quality overall. So just get yourself a good Firewire 5.25" case (the LaCie ones for example are beautiful and fast - but there are others). Just make sure that it can handle the DVD aspect though, some of the older FW cases can't. I'd recommend looking thru these discussions for other posts on this topic (chipset speeds too) - there has already been a lot of good input on this subject.
But whatever you decide, I'd definitely recommend having the burner in the firewire case.

  • Cannot eject any disk or disk image

I cannot eject any disk or disk image except with disk utility. Dragging to trash, sidebar or toolbar buttons, even the keyboard button will not work. Restarting holding mouse button and disk utility eject button do work. Any suggestions?

    Try doing this:
Boot from your Tiger DVD. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.1.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
See if this restores your eject functions.

  • Ejecting External Optical Drive

My friend has an iMac where the internal DVD drive has been replaced with a solid state drive, and he is now using an external DVD drive in its place. The eject key on the keyboard does nothing at all. Is there a way that we can relink that key to control the external DVD drive?
It may be worth noting that when he first got this computer, when you put a playable movie DVD in, Apple DVD Player would open automatically, and an error message would pop up saying "there was an initialization error" before it quickly closed again. Don't know if that's relevant, but there it is.
    Any insight would be appreciated.

I also have an extended keyboard and an External DVD Drive, but to be honest I'm not sure how to get the keyboard eject function back.
I've been using open/close on the menu bar for my DVD Drive
or the eject buttons in Finder, other Apps, Disk Utility and completely forgot to test my keyboard eject button.
However if the keyboard eject button was working in earlier 10.6 versions then the likely culprit is 10.6.6 and that needs to be reported. > http://www.apple.com/feedback/imac.html
