Eject key driving me nutz.

Well I just bought a new 15 powerbook and I was using a iBook 500Mhz .
On the iBook you have to hold down the eject key for a second or two and the cd ejects.
I've got to tell yall that I hate the eject key on the powerbook it is right above the delete key and if you reach a little too far with your little finger and just tap it and out comes the cd.
would it be too hard to add a little delay to the eject?

Louis- this is a somewhat common complaint when switching from iBook to PowerBook.
The reason the iBook eject key has a delay is because it is also the F12 key, where as on a PowerBook the eject key is all by itself.
I understand that it's a bummer to miss and eject a CD, but at the same time it's also a little like saying you want a delay on the P key because sometimes when going for the O key you hit it!

  • Eject key not operating USB DVD drive

    Hi guys
I have a 2012 Mac Mini running Mountain Lion and I'm using an official Apple bluetooth keyboard. I just bought a Samsung USB DVD drive and it ejects using the icon on the menu bar just fine. However the eject key on my keyboard is 100% unresponsive. Any thoughts? Is there an option I need to select? Before anyone suggests it, yes, I've tryed holding it down for a few seconds
Any help would be amazing. My OCD is kicking in and its driving me mad!!!
    Thanks guys

The Apple superdrive was designed to work only with retina MBPs and MBAs.  However you can get it to work with other Macs by using these directions:

  • ITunes 7.1.1 eject key no longer works

Since updating to iTunes 7.1.1 the eject key (keyboard) no longer works, anyone else have this happen? Have to use GUI eject key in iTunes and DVD player.
Power Mac G4 Sawtooth, iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Well, I'm not sure about this being a feature.
Reason is that, when I go to eject my iPod using the GUI my CD tray ALSO started ejecting. And now the CD tray ejects (no CD in it I may add) and the iPod didn't eject but froze. SO what's up with the eject sequences (a feature causing me hassles).
This latest iTunes 7 update is really making me upset. It wasn't broken for me before.

  • Upgraded OSX  10.3.9 to 10.4.10  eject key no longer works?

I recently upgraded my dual 800 MHz Power PC G4 from 10.3.9 to 10.4.10 and have had several small problems I am trying to work out as follows:
eject key will not work on apple pro keyboard....tried two other keyboards and none of them worked...you can eject the disc from iTunes and other software driven apps
can no longer print on CD's or DVD's to my Epson Stylus Photo 960 using Epson Print CD software and driver version 1.56 or new beta2 version 5.0.0...suspect this is a Classic problem as the software runs in Classic mode.
Any help would be much appreciated....I really need to use the eject key and would like to print on DVD's again!
    Thanks

You have to hold the eject key for a few seconds unless you are using it in combination with another key.

  • Remap volume and eject keys on aluminum keyboard?

Is there a way to remap the volume, mute and eject keys on the Apple

I'd rather have them above the keypad if that's possible - like they
    were on previous Apple keyboards.

  • Fn Keys and Eject Keys Don't Work in Windows

I'm fairly good to go with Snow Leopard and Boot Camp and on installing Windows on my wife's 13" MacBook Pro that I finally convinced her to get, I had a "hard drive not big enough" during the SP3 update BUT found a solution for that, however, all the threads I read on the above topic related to Boot Camp versions of the 2.x genre and I have 3.x genre. So, does anyone have any ideas how to fix this on the Windows side?
    - All function keys (excepted F3) are non-functional.
    - Eject key does not work
    - No right click of any kind other than with a mouse
    - No scroll features
    - No Boot Camp icon in the tray
Lastly (and just an add in) on the OSX side, her Mac HD icon was not there since the Boot Camp assistant was launched AND dummy me (I did this once before - I know idiot) tried to drag it from Finder to the desk top and exploded it. So, how do I get the Mac HDD and icon back in both Finder AND the Desktop.
Thanks in advance for those who have an offering.

Actually I didn't trash Boot Camp, it never populated in the tray after the install. Moreover, the thing i destroyed was the MacHDD from the desktop and from the Go Finder listing and want to get that puppy back
Boot Camp is running just that the F keys other than F3 are not functional nor is the Eject key . . PLUS . . as I say there is no tap to click, not two finger scrolling, and no 3 or 4 finger functions operational features.
    Please help!

  • Eject key not working with MBA Superdrive

For MBA owners with MBA Superdrive, could you please let me know if the Eject key is working? I just bought a MBA Superdrive but the Eject key on the keyboard is not ejecting disc. When i press the Eject key, i don't see the gray Eject icon on the screen, unlike all other function keys (for example, volume control, keyboard backlight control and screen brightness control). I can ctrl-click (or right-click) on the disc and select "Eject" to eject disc. If i do a ctrl-Eject, i can get the "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now" window to show up so the Eject key does not appear to have any physical or electrical issue. I can also boot into Boot Camp (Windows 7) and the Eject key works perfectly.
I have installed and uninstalled Virtual Box and Parallels so i am not sure if my problem is related to that.
Apple's tech support recommendation is to do an archive install, which in theory will keep all my personal data but create a new Systems folder. But i would like to try something less drastic before going that route.

Thanks. I not only did an "archive install" of Snow Leopard, i also did a erase install. But the Eject key is still not working like it's supposed to. I think i am going to try clearing the PRAM next.

Can't figure out why colors don't totally change when you select type with curser? It looks like it has by looking at it, but when you highlight the area after the old color is still there. It happens with objects to. Driving me NUTZ. Help!

Select the text, and open the Appearance palette (Come on guys, text highlight is irrelevant, it happens to objects too says the OP), and see what's listed there.  For a simple text object, there should only be a line item "Type", followed by "Characters", and when double-clicked the Characters line item expands to tell you the stroke and fill color.  For a basic object, there should be a fill and/or stroke.
What happens sometimes, is that you end up adding extra strokes/fills to objects or text, and the appearance palette is where that will be noted.  Especially when you are dealing with groups, and/or picking up a color with the eyedropper, you may inadvertently be adding a fill or stroke on top of something.  You can drag those unwanted thingies from the Appearance palette into its own little trash can.

  • New key board eject key will not open Drive Door

I know this has been answered, but I cannot find it. I have added a new white key board (not the thin one) to an 800 Mhz iMac flat-panel and of course the CD drive door will not open with the eject key.
I'm considering removing the door and gluing a pull-handle on the tray! Seriously, why would Apple make the eject key incompatible on the newer keyboards?
    Thanks

Odd, I had the A1048 (later white keyboard with USB1.1 ports on back) keyboard on my iMac G4, I've just plugged it in my Alu Intel iMac and the Eject Key ⏏ still functions as expected. Have you checked the keyboard shortcuts in  menu > System Preferences... > Keyboard & Mouse?
Alternatively pop the ⏏ key and the F12 key off the keyboard and swap them over.
    cheers

  • HT2448 I have a Macally Keyboard with no Eject key.  What do I use instead?

The HT2448 article shows all kinds of shortcuts for shutdown, restart, etc  They all use the Eject key in the upper right corner of an Apple Keyboard.  But one of my computers has a Macally keyboard without Eject.  Is there some other key I can use?  I've tried F12, but that does nothing.  Is there some escape sequence I can use to recode a key, like F12, to get it to act like an Eject key?

Is it the Restart/Shutdown options you want?
The key combo of Control+Eject, (F12), may bring up the Restart/Shutdown Dialog box and the 1st letter of each will select that button.
Command+Option+esc = Bring up Force Quit window
    Command+Control+eject = Restart immediately
    Command+Option+Control+eject = Shutdown immediately
    Command+Control+power button = Force restart

  • Command-option-eject key combination results in immediate wake from sleep

    Howdy!
After updating to 10.4.9 from 10.4.8 with the Delta PPC updater, my PowerBook 'acquired' the delayed eject key response (i.e., it now has to be held for at least ~0.5 sec to register and to have the eject icon displayed on screen, as opposed to the previous 'tapping-is-sufficient' behavior). Other than learning about the unannounced new behavior the hard way, this is no longer a problem.
At the same time, however, if I put the PB to sleep with the combination command-option-eject it wakes up exactly two seconds after going to sleep (as recorded in system.log). This does not happen if I choose sleep via the Apple menu, or pressing ctrl-eject or the power button.
Usual voodoo - repair permissions, inspect/move login items, safe boot, PRAM and NVRAM resets - already performed, without changing behavior.
    Hints? Suggestions?
    PowerBook G4 1.67GHz, 1GB RAM, 128MB VRAM, 100GB HDD   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

The problem seems to have been resolved by upgrading to Leopard. I can now use the combination Option-Command-Eject to pu the PowerBook to sleep and it will stay in that state until woken by pressing any key, or opening the display if it has been closed after the PB went to sleep.
The issue was not answered, anyway, since it was never resolved while the PB had Tiger installed, and after the problem developed. I am choosing this option to simply close it.

  • Apple Keyboard Eject Key driver missing?

    Hello all,
Having just installed Windows Vista on my MacPro via the BootCamp assistant supplied with Leopard, I just can't open the cd tray using the eject key; I understand it's all about installing the proper driver that could be extracted from the Leopard DVD - is this correct? If so, how to intall it within Vista? I can't burn the driver on a CD and it(eject key not working) and I can't write on the Windows partition from within OS X as it is a NTFS volume...I'm getting quite desperate; truth be told, Vista is useless to me if I can't use CDs & DVDs for Windows-specific software and games...thanks for any kind of help

I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro. I wasn't able to find a way to use the eject key. I can't access my laptop w/Windows to see exactly how I ejected a CD but I know I did it. Anyways, if I can remember correctly, you can go to "My Computer" and either: right click on the CD/DVD and there is an option to eject or click on the CD/DVD and there's an option on the left to eject the CD/DVD. This is just my two cents, I was too lazy to search for an answer from Apple. Hope I can at least give you a temporary solution.

  • New Non-Apple keyboard doesn't have Eject key.

I wear out Mac keyboards fast, so I got a non-Apple Mac keyboard, but it lacks a drive-open/eject key. Is there any way to program an F-key or a combination to open the drive door?

    Hi-
Go to System/ Library /CoreServices /Menu Extras. Inside that folder, find and double-click on the file called Eject.menu.
Now, look in your Menu bar, and you should be the proud owner of an Eject icon, which, when clicked, ejects the optical drive (closes it too)!
