Eject noise while sleeping
Sometimes when my macbook is in sleep mode, it makes the sound of trying to eject a disc, maybe once a minute or something. but there is no disc in the drive. This just started a few days ago. anybody know why?
Hi mallory,
Welcome to macbook forum.
Is that sound comes when the macbook wake up from sleep?
If that so, consider that normal.
But if in sleep mode, the optical sounded continuously yet the macbook still sleep, than it is not a normal behaviour.
Reset your PRAM / PMU to refresh your hardware behaviour.

I started to notice a "popping" noise (about 1 Hz) when I got external speakers for my Mac Mini. It occurs when the Mac is sleeping and the external screen is on (but sleeping its own "sleep").
If I disconnect the analog audio out (from where the external speakers take their signal) the popping ends.
If I connect headphones to the same jack, I hear no popping in them.
If I hit the power button on the external screen and power it down, the popping ends. It will not return eventhough I power the screen on again.
If I disconnect the USB cable that power the speakers from the Mac, the popping ends, but returns when I connect again.
Any clue to what this problem comes from? Some kind of ground loop?
/BESeems we've isolated the problem to Electrical at least. Sounds like a Ground loop somewhere.
See this nice article...
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov04/articles/computerproblems.htm
Audio equipment which uses a double-insulated design needs no earth connection, and so is less susceptible to earth-loop problems. Such equipment will often use two-core mains cable, which has an oval cross-section, and the mains plug will sometimes use a dummy plastic earth pin, as shown here.
Disconnecting the earth wire inside a mains plug might solve an earth loop problem, but it's a dangerous solution, because you're removing an essential electrical safety measure.
And my best guess at this point is the PSU for the Speakers. -
Strong fan noise while sleeping
Yesterday before going to sleep, I put my imac to sleep and when I woke up today, the fans were going berserk, and the imac was frozen. So I reset from the back. It's the second time it does this.
I reseted the pram, booted in safe mode, repaired permissions and disk and I did the thing where you remove all usb device and unplug the power cord ( don't remember how it's called ).
Imac G5 1.9GHz 1.5Go DDR2 SDRAM Isight
I'm running mac osx 10.5.3
Anyone know whats wrongBarry is talking about the Hardware Test DVD that comes with the System Install DVD.
Try the following before using the Hardware Test DVD:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301733 iMac G5: How to Reset the SMU (iMac G5, the iMac G5 (Ambient Light Sensor), and the iMac G5 (iSight)).
BTW: The iSight models are NOT part of any of Apple's extension repair programs nor are they user repairable (except for RAM installation). If none of the suggestions work, you will need to take your computer to your nearest AASP for a look-see.
Hopefully you have AppleCare. -
sometimes i would close the lid for the night, putting it to sleep, and the middle of the night, i would hear sounds coming from the macbook as it was working intensively, like as if it was running hardcore task. almost the entire notebook would be really hot. i would have to unplug the battery and power to turn it off. this has happened about 2-3 times since i got in June.
could someone please explain to me why this is happening and how i can solve it?
thanks in advance. There seems to be an issue with this happening. I've had an incident where my MacBook went to sleep on its own, and the fan came on fast and loud.
Temperatures seemed semi-normal. It was just the fan, I think.

Hi ive had my macbook pro for a week or so and when i open after its been in sleep mode for quite a while it will usually make that ejecting noise. It doesnt make the ejecting noise evreytime i open it just sometimes. Is this normal HELP
Yes, it's normal.
Apple released a firmware update a couple of years ago that was supposed to stop the drive from making that noise in certain models that were available then, but even the update didn't work all the time. The noise is completely harmless and not indicative of any problem. Just ignore it. -
What keeps making the cyclical noise while in sleep? Sounds like iMac is loading a graphic or different screen. Does it periodically while in sleep mode. How do I correct this? Just started doing it in the last few months.
I finally figured out how to fix this. First I reviewed "Mac OS X: Why your Mac might not sleep of stay in sleep mode." I noted the bullet: "Do you have any other external USB or Firewire devices connected?" I have an CP685AVR for a UPS for my Mac. I replaced the battery a few months ago. I also hooked up Apple's 'Energy Saver' power management software to the CP685AVR using the USB connection. I disconnected it, and that solved the problem. I still have the UPS and battery back-up; I just can't "monitor" the battery. What's to monitor? It always said the battery was 100% charged even right up to the time the previous battery failed. Thanks for listening, uh... reading.

Frequent ejecting noise all the time..
I have a Macbook 10.4.11 OSX and it is 2006. It is a bit old,as I bought it from ebay.
It makes the ejecting noise every time I open it, turn it on or even touch it sometimes. It is that noise when you eject a disk.. I realized that if I press the area above the disk area, it will make that noise again.. and sometimes it just keeps repeating.
Is this a normal thing? It does it quite often and not very good when I am in a quiet class and it happens randomly. I don't have a warrenty, so that is why I am asking on this site. Any ideas?
thanks!Hi MariaLav, and a warm welcome to the forums!
What happens if there is a CD in it when that happens, does it eject?
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, test if it makes that noise sleeping from Safe Mode, reboot when it completes. -
IMac late 2008, 2GB RAM, Mavericks 10.9.2, Noise in sleep
What keeps making the cyclical noise while in sleep? Sounds like iMac is loading an application, a graphic, or a different screen. Does it periodically while in sleep mode. Does seem to do with increasing frequency as time passes while in sleep. How do I correct this? Just started doing it in the last few months. I'm afraid I'm setting myself up for some kind of premature hardware failure. I've tried everything such as checking Energy Saver settings, Bluetooth settings, print queue, etc.
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)I finally figured out how to fix this. First I reviewed "Mac OS X: Why your Mac might not sleep of stay in sleep mode." MacBook drive keeps making eject noises
Hi
A key fell off my macbook earlier this week so I took it in to get it fixed. I got it back and the superdrive doesn't work.. it just makes eject sounds and buzzes like trying to read a disk...
If I try to put in a disk it feels like there is one inside, but if i put it in while it makes the eject noise, it goes in and is readable but makes noise like something is touching the disk..
Anything I can do to fix it? Thanks.. this is beginning to look like the rev a MBP I hadLets just say I opened it and there was an extra clip (the ones on the right side beside the superdrive that hold the case on i think) ontop of the drive putting pressure on it and taking that out lets the disks get in fine
No I never damaged it -
Just got my macbook pro today and when i first started it up the first couple times the superdrive made the loud loading/ejecting noise several times in a row, on its own. now it makes the noise once when it's awakening from sleep. is this normal? should i take it back?
thanks
daveThe several times in a row doesn't sound normal but if it only happened once it probably doesn't mean anything. The eject sound on wake is normal. My Mac mini G4 does that too.

First check the manufacturer's website for an update. If there is none, or if it doesn't help, I suggest you remove the device, back up all data, and then remove the software according to the manufacturer's instructions. Reboot and see whether there's an improvement. If there isn't, post another panic report. -
My printer HP Officejet pro 8600 plus makes a lot of noise while printing
My HP officejet pro 8600 plus, makes a lot of noise while printing, ink levels are ok, and printing is ok. it was makiing lines before but not anymore
Hi,
Check first if the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet.
Check if the carriage is moving freely and there is no obstructions inside the unit.
Clean the paper rollers once.
See if doing these helps you

Mac Mini won't start and constantly makes disc ejecting noise
My Mac Mini won't start. It was working fine, then just locked up and won't start again. When I push the start button it just makes this repeated disc ejecting noise from the DVD drive. It doesn't make the chime noise or display anything on the monitor. I've disconnected the optical drive, but it didn't help. Then it just doesn't start at all. I thought that if I would disconnect the optical drive, that it would ignore it and just boot off the hard drive, but nothing happened. The power light comes on. Then, if I hold down the power button for 10 seconds it shuts down. The fan operates. It just never attempts to boot up. I can't put in a system DVD because the optical drive is just in eternal eject mode.
If you have any suggestions let me know. Thanks.I have the same situation.
I think the drive thinks it has a disc to eject or part of the mechanism is stuck and can't return to it's resting position. I was going to disconnect as you tried but now I think I'll try to disassemble the drive to see if there might be some debris jamming things up.
Please let me know if you solve the problem. -
LaCie 6TB drive ejects when Air sleeps: I use two 6TB LaCie drives - home and office with my Air, which travels with me between the locations. Only have a problem with one that inappropriately ejects when the Air sleeps (and only sometimes). Is there a fix? I've read others who believe that the problem is with the operating system (I'm using 10.9.2). But my problem suggests that it's with one of the LaCie's. Any suggestions about how to fix?
Lacie doesnt make HD, thats a Seagate inside the box.
Is there a fix?
Yes, get a 4TB max HD, 6TB drives are both new and have known issues, ...in fact so do most all 4TB drives.
my problem suggests that it's with one of the LaCie's
You mean Seagate
Large external hard drives are great! Large external hard drives are horrible
It is a common premise that people are overjoyed at the dropping prices per terabyte on external hard drives, and the first thing that enters most peoples minds is "great, I can put all my stuff on one drive,... all of it!" However considerations need to be made in creating a giant single choke point for not mere data loss, but seriously large data loss. If there is at the very least yet another redundant copy, this is fine, otherwise do not consider it whatsoever. Some 3TB and 4TB drives of all mfg. have, at the time of this writing, reliability concerns currently and best recommendation is staying at 2TB drives or less.
Advantages and disadvantages of larger 3TB and 4TB external drives must be weighed -
Late 2009 Mac Mini odd Super Drive Loading and Ejecting Noise
I have had no problems with my Mac Mini until now. Just today I inserted a disk into the super drive and it made a different noise to usual as it took the disk. Also, when I ejected it, it made different noise to what it usually makes. The drive still reads and writes fine it is just the loading and ejecting noise I am worried about.
Help would me much appreciated
cp1996Sounds like you should be expecting the drive to fail more or less any time now. If the thing is still under warranty, take it in and try to get it replaced. There is a category for abnormal noise when selecting the failure type, so you should have a decent chance. But only if it's under warranty.
