Eject the install disk

Hi. Please help. My install disk appears to be hanging on the grey Apple screen at start-up. I've not yet installed Leopard. I just want to eject the disk. How do I get it out of the computer. I'm thinking I got a bad disk.
Thanks. Dan

I can understand this to be a problem. The optical drive is barely reading the DVD, but just enough so it does not give up. Typically, a drive will re-read a sector several times if it experiences a problem. So imagine if much of the DVD had this film on it - - the installation might finally work, but only after the drive struggled with the DVD for a very long time. Also, at some point, the computer or drive might get really hot and make things worse.
I think this is one of the major problems people have been having, with no explanation until now.

  • How do I eject the install disk on the mini mac?

In wiping the mini mac, it keeps looping to the erase and install.  It won't allow me to shut down or eject the disk to put in the program disk.  When the screen gets to the Install Mac OS X, it won't show any disk (the Mac Mini) to install it.  I used the Utilities to erase and install, but I can't go any further.  It should install with a system lower than the OS X Yosemite.

  • Why does imac G5 eject leopard install disk

Why does imac G5 eject leopard install disk?  I'm trying to help my father get online to read the newspaper using an iMac G5 1.8 GHz 17".  I've installed a new hard drive and reinstalled software and rus software updates until I've reached 10.4.11 and the lovely "your software is up to date" message.  When I put in the Leopard 10.5.1 Install DVD, it auto ejects within 15 seconds and never gets mounted and never shows on desktop.  When I place the same DVD in my Intel MacBook Pro running 10.6.8, the disk mounts and the install window opens as usual.  Any suggestions on what i'm missing here? thanks

  • My macbook keeps ejecting the install dvd at restart???

my macbook keeps ejecting the install dvd at restart???

Try zapping PRAM. Hold down the cndopt+RP keys on restart (with the Leopard disk in), and release them after 3 "bongs". Then, immediately hold down the C key.

  • Why won't my MacBook recognize the install disk?

Why won't my Macbook recognize the install disk?  I want to run the Apple Hardware Test, but the computer will not boot from the install disk, it keeps ejecting the disk.

    Several possibilities -
The disk may be from a different model of computer.
The disk itself may be damaged.
The optical drive in your MacBook may have gone bad. Can it read other DVDs?

  • How do you NOT start up from the install disk if it is in the CD drive?

This has to be a dumb question, but . . . I put my 10.4 install disk into the CD drive of the Mini to try an experiment, installing OS X on a thumb drive as a backup.  It didn't work. Now the Mini will only start up from the install disk, not the internal drive (which has 10.5.8 on it).
The advice I have seen in the forum says to hold down the D key upon startup and that will choose the internal drive as the startup disk. That didn't work. Also, there was a suggestion to hold down the option key upon startup, and then choose the internal drive from the startup manager. No luck there, either.  I also tried holding down the eject button on the keyboard during startup, but it still started up from the install disk.
I feel like I am in a 1 Infinite Loop here.  Any advice much appreciated.

Oops, I will now answer my own dumb question.  I found another suggestion in the Powerbook forum that said to hold down the mouse button as it boots up, and the disk should eject -- it worked!  I hope this will help somebody else.  Sorry about the previous post.

  • My emac won't reboot or start up from the install disk

My emac has been freezing soon after startup. I managed to use the mouse click to get it to open the disk drive door on startup, and then inserted the install disk and restarted.
    Sometimes I've tried holding down C, which does nothing;
    Sometimes I've been able to get it to start up long enough to click on the install disk and click restart, but then it just restarts and ignores the install disk;
And sometimes I've tried going to system preferences and changing the start disk.
    None of these work. Ideas?

Are you certain you're using the OS X Install CD or Tiger Restore DVD (whchever came with your Mac)?
Have you disconnected all peripherals other than Apple keyboard and mouse?
Does the Mac Start Up in Safe Mode?
Holding the 'c' key down at startup requires a wired USB keyboard, and you must keep the 'c' key down until you see the gray screen with the Apple logo. You can also use the option key; see Startup Manager: Select a Startup Volume
Holding the mouse button down as the Mac starts up will force-eject all removable media and open the optical drawer.

  • I have a 2010 mac mini referbished and i dont see the Disk Utilitiy in the Utilities on the install disk. Is that because it is refurbished?

I have a 2010 mac mini referbished and i dont see the Disk Utilitiy in the Utilities on the install disk. Is that because it is refurbished?

The software that comes with your refurbished Mini should be identical to that which comes with a new Mini. Disk Utility should be in Applications > Utilities. Alternatively, choosing Utilities from the Go menu at the top of the finder windownwill take you directly to the Utilities folder.

  • Can I use the install disk on two computers?

I haven't actually installed it on my computer yet, I just allowed whatever was going to install itself to come up. If I have another computer, can I use the install disk to put OSX on there or not? If so, can I still use it in case I need a backup load of my computer?

Only if you get a family pack license newer than the installer disk which came with the computer(s) can you install it on multiple computers. Check your license agreement.
You can't use the disks which came with another computer on a second computer. These articles explain more along those lines:

  • I think my hard drive crashed. How can I get data off via firewire before the HD completely goes? I was stuck on the BSoD and now I can't even use the install disk. Utility Disk said HD was okay. Please HELP ME

    Safe mode did nothing.
Safe mode with verbose seemed to make it worse.
Before continuously trying new things, I could use the install disk to check the disk utility and clear
the hard drive from there but now the screen won't even load to that.
I really need the data on the hard drive especially if it can't be salvaged.
    How can i transfer files?
Am I better off physically taking my HD out or will it damage itself without
    leaving the system.
    I tried command r
    resetting the pram
    safe mode
    jumping out a window
    nothing has helped.
I am stuck on the blue screen of death and it flickers.

No. In order to use FireWire Target Disk Mode you need to use a FireWire equipped Mac. Other than that the only other way I can think of to even attempt to access you files would be to remove your hard drive and install it in a case and connect it to another computer.
Have you run the Apple Hardware Test? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509

  • I have a mac pro 2007 model. It appears I have a corrupted sector on my the hadrive tha has my operating system. If I use the install disk that came with is (Tiger) can I still get my lion back.

I have mac pro 2007 model given to me, I updated it to lion about six months ago, and I do not have a time machine.
Lion stopped loading before I get to the login screen,
I tried all the tips, doing a option/shift/v. I noticed several fsk_dsk errors that it could not fix on my boot drive.
Restore would not work either. The only physical copy I have is the install disk that came with the mac. I think it is Tiger.
If I put this operating system on will I be abel to upgrade it to lion, and if so will I have to pay again?

The Lion Recovery Partition has its own index. Your Macintosh HD partition is the one with the troubles.
If Disk Utility cannot fix it, you may need to apply different Utilities, such as Disk Warrior.
Some readers suggest that the best disk repair is to erase the drive and restore it from your Backups.
This might be a good time to consider getting a new drive to have on hand. This would allow you flexibility in copying, fixing, and (if needed) replacing the drive with the problems.

  • How can I reformat my MBP's hard drive without the Install Disk?

My MacBook Pro got a virus, and I need to reformat my computer without the Install Disk (I don't have it anymore).
Is it possible to fix it?

    you don't have a virus.
your best antivirus is already installed in your Macbook.  It's called OS X Lion. (fully updated).
do not install any memory resident antivirus in your computer.  Especially anything made by Norton or Mackeeper.
download and install ClamX AV a non memory resident anti virus and scan your macbook once a week.
since you're running Lion, you can create a Lion Recovery Disk Assitant in a USB Thumb Drive.  Click here. for more info.

  • I want to sell my iMac G4 and the install disk doesn't work. What do I do?

I want to sell or give away my iMac G4 but the install disk won't run. I've formatted the drive and installed Panther from disks I bought when it first came out. I've installed them it to the point at which the animation comes up and you are asked to personalise the machine and create an account. I thought I'd leave that for the new owner so that it is truly his machine. What happens when he connects to the internet and it asks him to register with Apple? Can he use the OS if he hasn't got my Apple ID?
Or is there another way round this?
It's a lovely old machine and I would like to see it continuing to be used rather than going to landfill.

    Thanks Klaus,
It's a long time since I installed a new OS but I thought you had to go through registration before it would work. You certainly have to supply your name and address, and then it prompts you to register. Will it let you skip that step?
If the new owner can do that, why would he need the install disks? And how do I get through to the right person at Apple?

  • How do I boot up my Mac with the install disk (other problems)?

    Hi there,
My Mac ran out of battery the other day and when plugged back into the mains failed to load up other than the blue screen with the Apple logo, followed by the circular progress bar and a long rectangular progress bar (which I assume is disk repair).  The disk repair bar tends to get about one-third of the way across, then starts again.  After the second time, the Mac chooses to give up and turns itself off - I'm assuming this isn't a fan problem as it seems to switch itself off at exactly the same point each time.
I have tried loading the Mac from the install disk by holding down C on startup, but I can't get to the install screen.  I've also tried loading by holding down the shift key, but the system won't load up in safe mode.
I experienced a similar problem earlier this year, but was able to reinstall the Mac and this solved the problem.  This time, I'm struggling to get things working.  Everything else seems to have been working up until now.
I'd really appreciate any help that you can give me,
    Many thanks,
    Michael

    Do you mean iTunes library?
iTunes account is what you use to make iTunes purcahses.
iTunes library is what is on your computer.
It says my phone can only be set up woth one itunes account. How do I remove the previous account?
No, it tells you it can only be sync'd with one iTunes library.
Simplest way is to copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder (thisis the iTunes library) from old computer to new computer.
