  • How can I get my LaCie external hard disk icon to reappear on my desktop?

The iMac discussion section does not seem open to me asking this question. It's geared to the Intel Macs or other categories which do not allow for me to type in the following question:
    Bottom Line Question:
How can I get my La Cie external hard disk icon to re-appear on my desktop?
    Background:
    I clicked Go > Computer
At that point there the usual set of icons in the far left hand column, including one for my LaCie external hard disk. Near that icon there was a dark upturned truncated/shortened arrow. I absent-mindedly clicked on that dark arrow, and at that moment I could hear my LaCie external hard drive power down; I heard the sound of hardware powering down.
The LaCie external hard drive is sitting right next to my iMac and its blue light is ON so I know that at very least I didn't turn it off.
    But where is it?
And how can I get it to reappear on my desktop?
Right now when I click onto Go > Computer, the LaCie external hard drive disk is NOT THERE.
    Thank you.

James, yes. I put the question in the iMac section and did get some solutions. My LaCie external hard drive is back now. I was aware that the arrow is connected to Eject actions, but was concerned when I went to Finder Preferences and selected the LaCie to show up on the Desktop, and its icon did not show up on the desktop. I hope you and your family are enjoying the weekend, James. But how could you not: You have little Kate there with you. Lorna in Southern California

  • Folder icons keep reappearing whenever I make a new bookmark. closing window and opening new one eliminates them again. is there a fix for this?

I asked this question months ago but have received no replies. I ran the original de-iconizer but as soon as I select "Bookmark this page" all the folder icons reappear. I can close the window and open a new one to get a de-iconized browser window but am looking for a fix for this.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

You can also try to repair the places database with this extension:

  • Howw do I get rid of a Mozilla shortcut that keeps reappearing on my desktop?

I keep deleting it but every time I logon it's there.

I figured it out! Click on the Orange 'Firefox' tab on the upper left hand side of the Firefox browser, Choose 'Options', then deselect 'Yahoo! toolbar'.

  • How do I get the hard drive icon to reappear on the desktop?

It is not in the list of devices, either. I just inherited this laptop and the setup is a little screwy.

Finder > Preferences > General > Show these items on the Desktop: Hard disks

  • Stop icon from re appearing on desktop

Anyone know how to stop the Firefox icon from reappearing on my desktop? Every time I delete it, it comes back. I try to keep everything in my taskbar. Thanks!

Very odd. Right-click on the Firefox icon on your desktop and check the properties for any clues, such as General info, the file details and Shortcut target, then post back.
You could also download a fresh new copy of the Firefox installer file "Firefox Setup 10.0.2.exe" from http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/new and save it to your desktop. Next, uninstall Firefox from the Windows Control Panel Add or Remove Programs list, to see if that gets rid of the Firefox icon. (When you uninstall Firefox, it will not remove your bookmarks or other user data and settings as long as you don't check that option.) Ref: [[Uninstalling Firefox]]
You can then reinstall Firefox by running the setup file you downloaded. Ref: [[Installing Firefox on Windows]]

  • Deleted Files keep reappearing

I've tried everything - there are 12 files which after deleted and emptying trash - keep reappearing on my desktop
I've recreated the Trash Bin, ran Chkdsk, started in SAFE Mode and deleted, nothing.  Any ideas on what is causing this and how to remedy?
    thanks

Only have 1 account - that's mine and it is the administrator.
What are these files? (full name & extension?)
When were they created? (date & time?)
By the way - running a machine on just one admin account is a high-risk way of doing things. If something went wrong with this account you would have a huge problem. In these forums we deal with such issues on a daily basis. A spare admin account, fully
tested and documented, is as important as having a spare house key (and for much the same reason!).

  • Macintosh HD icon keeps moving

My hard drive icon keeps moving on my desktop without me moving it.
Does anyone know what it's doing this?
thank you for any help or suggestions! Greatly appreciated.

I've found if I put any other icons too close to the hard drive icon it will move after a restart or shutdown but not after sleeping it. This will also happen if you put the hard drive icon too close to the edge of your screen.
If I keep other icons a 1/2" away I have no trouble (distance varies depending on your screen size).

  • My icons keep disappearing and then reappearing

I'm new to macs and this problem is confusing me, all of a sudden last night my desktop icons keep disappearing and then they reappear in the same place, but if i have a window open like Macintosh HD it closes it. When this happens it also switches from what im working on, like this message so I have to click back on it to continue.
This is happening alot and I was hoping someone could give me some info. or do I have to reinstall.....
Im used to having to do these things on PC's but not on macs.
    Cheers

    Tony,
You have to reset the parameter ram.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
Macintosh: How to Reset PRAM and NVRAM
This document explains how to reset the parameter random access memory (PRAM) and nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM) on Macintosh computers.
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models

  • I connected my iPhone to my macbook to charge it. When I come to eject it I can't find the iphone icon in finder or on desktop?

I connected my iPhone to my macbook to charge it. When I come to eject it I can't find the iphone icon in finder or on desktop?

With Macintosh Computers there is no Finder or Desktop icon for iPhone. Just unplug the iPhone. In iTunes application this is different and you can so-called eject it if you want.

  • HELP!! FINDER ICON KEEPS JUMPING. MESSAGE SAYS 'RESTORE WINDOWS'. CAN'T CLICK IT. DESKTOP IS BLANK. I'M IN MY FINALS WEEK!!

My Finder icon keeps jumping. I can't open a Finder window. A message keeps popping up at the same time asking me whether or not I want to restore my Windows. I can't click on it because it keeps, well, disappearing. I can't even force quit the application. I've turned my laptop on and off and the whole thing starts again. The files on my desktop have disappeared. I've visited all other forums on the subject and nothing works. HELP!! I'm in my finals week and I cannot afford to waste time on this.

    Never mind.

  • Desktop Icon keeps returning to 16X16

Has anyone run into this problem? My desktop icons keep reducing from 28X28 to the minimum setting (16X16). Not sure what triggers it, but it happens everyday, 2 or 3 times.

    Hi Norman
depending on your macbook pro model, one thing that'll do it no2w & then is the 'pinch' gesture being set to change icon size/zoom - you should be able to disable that in System Preferences-Trackpad.
