Ejected iPod remounts when a CD is inserted

If using iTunes 7, and you happen to have your ejected iPod still charging through the USB, the iPod will be remounted if you insert a CD. It will then proceed to re-sync. Inconvenient.
Anyone have the link for iTunes feedback?

hopefully a much needed update will remedy this and other iTunes 7 problems.

  • IPod disconnects when disc's are inserted/ejected

Whenever I insert/mount or eject/unmount a real/virtual disc into a physical/virtual drive, my iPod disconnects, as if it was automatically being ejected. It isn't visible in iTunes or Windows and I am 100% sure it was safely ejected, but this is really annoying.
Also, I don't have a credit/debit card or paypal account, is there a way I can still access the iTunes store?

Whenever I insert/mount or eject/unmount a real/virtual disc into a physical/virtual drive, my iPod disconnects, as if it was automatically being ejected.
hmmmmm. it might be worth checking to see if you're getting a weird(er) variant of the issue discussed in the following document:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • ITunes, not iPod, crashes when certain CDs are inserted for importing...

If a folder with the artist name exists already, import stops as soon as it starts, freezes iTunes (with the "time remaining" locked on 2:30 or whatever) >> AND << suspends my internet connection. Have to reboot whole system to begin again. This occurs when I delete or change name of artist folder, too.
    Any and all insights appreciated.

  • Preserve ipod display columns after eject and remount

Since the search function is currently disabled on discussions, I'm posting this in the hopes that someone might know the answer: how do I change the default column settings when I mount my ipod in itunes? I'm running the latest versions of everything. 80GB ipod. I set up the columns the way I like them (size, kind, time, no genre, etc) and then when I eject and remount the ipod, the columns are all back to the way apple wants them to look and not how I want them to look. it's not even a restarting itunes issue; I've kept itunes open while testing it and the columns always reset when I remount the ipod. I do have "remember view setting for each source" checked, but that seems to ignore the ipod as a "source".

it has been fixed, sort of. the columns are preserved except for size, which is very odd. I prefer to keep the size column handy while I organize files and eliminate duplicates. It also does not remember my "show browser" setting.

When I hook my ipod up to my mac I used to get the Itunes has detected an ipod that appears to be corrupted error message. It would then sync all my song to the ipod but when I ejected it, none of the songs would be on the ipod. Now I hook it up and I get the Mac OS X can't repair the disk error message. Then the spinning colored pinwheel pops up and I can't use iTunes. Please HELP!!!!!!

Sounds like your iPod is broken. Take it to Apple or someone else who repairs iPods and see if you can get it fixed, or get it replaced.

  • Keep getting error message when trying to eject iPOD nano

When trying to eject iPOD, getting error message ..."cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application". No other application is open but iTUNES. What does this mean? and are there any tricks to get it to eject?

Usually this is caused when antivirus "Grabs" the drive to scan it in the background, and/or windows itself "Grabs" the drive for indexing and things. It also happens if you play a song off the ipod thru iTUnes, then stop it.
Usually rebooting will force it to let go

  • ITunes freezes when I'm trying to eject iPod (classic, 160GB)

I JUST got my new MacBook and iPod like 3 days ago and now all of a sudden iTunes freezes when I'm trying to eject iPod.
It's very annoying considering I never had this problem w/my old MacBook or my old iPod and this stuff is brand new!
I know a lot of people have similar problem. Did ANYONE find out what to do with it? Or do I have to drive to Apple Store again?
    Thank you!

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • IPhone iPod autoplays when headphones are inserted

Everytime I insert headphones into my new iPhone 3G, the iPod automatically begins to play. This is very annoying, because I'm not always interested in listening to the iPod, like when I'm trying to listen to Pandora or play a game. When I pause the song in the iPod app, it automatically plays again a few seconds later.
    Any suggestions?

Yeah is this a "feature" of the new iPhones that it plays music automatically when you put in the headphones? I find it pretty annoying.
Also, I am confused about how to shuffle music on the iPhone, it seems to always play the same order of songs "randomly" or else it plays them alphabetically by song name, depending on if I hit "Shuffle" at the top. Any ideas?

  • Possible fix for unable to eject ipod, files are in use by another program

If you get the above message and are using itunes 7, this may be a possible fix. Open itunes and connect your ipod. When you get the main screen, uncheck the box "open itunes when this ipod is connected" and then click apply in the lower right of the screen. After your ipod has finished updating (top of itunes says update complete) you must eject the ipod using the safely remove hardware from your tray in the taskbar. Unplug you ipod, close itunes. Now, open itunes and connect your ipod. After it updates, you should safely remove the ipod. Good luck.
    pc   Windows XP Pro

Easy way. Reset the iPod, then disconnect when you see the Apple logo.
Another way. Hold ctr-alt-del to bring up the Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and look for iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe. Select them and hit the End Process button. Close the Windows Task Manager Window and try ejecting the iPod via the safely remove hardware method.

If you are still having problems you can try one more thing. Right click on the My Computer icon and select Manage from the list of actions. Go to the Services and Applications item and from there the services item. Double click on the services item to bring up the list of services currently installed on your computer. Look for the iPod Service and double click on it. From the new window select Stop. Now try again to eject using the safely remove hardware option.

If all else fails shut down the computer and disconnect the iPod.

  • Can't access IPod Classic when charging

    Hi All...
I have 30GB Ipod classic. When I plug it into the computr to charge (USB), I see a flashing red circle with line thru it in the middle fo the screen with message Do Not Disconnect.
While it is charging I cannot clear this fromthe screen and listen to the stuff on the Ipod. Is there something wrong or is this by (very very very bad) design?
How can I listen to the Ipod while it is charging?
I tried to eject the device from systray icon, but when I do that, it stops charging?
    Help please.
    Thanks in advance.

This is because the iPod is being synced to the computer, which means that it is being updated and the information on it is being changed. While that is happening you cannot do anything with the iPod. Once it has finished syncing, (when the message *iPod sync is complete - OK to disconnect* displays in the top of the iTunes window) you can click on the *Eject iPod* button which you will find in the bottom right hand of the *iTunes summary screen* (not the systray icon) and which will "disconnect it" from iTunes but allow it to continue charging. You can then listen to it while it is still plugged in and charging.

No, nothing wrong with it or the design. It is syncing as well as charging. If you try to "use" the iPod while it's being updated that would confuse it!
I tried to eject the device from systray icon, but when I do that, it stops charging?
That is not the correct (or best) method of disconnecting the iPod. As I stated above, you should use the *Eject iPod* iPod button.
By the way, there is no such model as a 30GB Classic, perhaps yours is a 5th generation or photo iPod? See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61688 for information on identifying your iPod model.

  • My Ipod 4th Gen will not turn on. When I hook it up to the computer I get the ITunes symbol and the usb device on the screen of the Ipod. When I go to restore the Ipod it will not restore. I am getting unknown error code 6.

My Ipod 4th Gen will not turn on. When I hook it up to the computer I get the ITunes symbol and the usb device on the screen of the Ipod. When I go to restore the Ipod it will not restore. I am getting unknown error code 6.

    Likely this:
Errors related to third-party security software
    Error 2, 4 (or -4), 6, 40, 1000, 9006
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Verify that access to ports 80 and 443 are allowed on your network.
Verify that communication to albert.apple.com or photos.apple.com is not blocked by a firewall, or other Internet security setting.
Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps underAdvanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations.
Restore your device while connected to a different network.
    Restore using a different computer.

  • Trouble ejecting iPod in Win2000

    Hi all,
I have a small issue with an iPod 5th Gen Video in Windows 2000. Each time I try to eject / unmount the iPod, it is ejected, then it re-mounts immediately; so I cannot disconnect the cable because the iPod is always in use.
    Same issue happens when
    - ejecting iPod from iTunes (both eject buttons at the bottom or in the source list);
    - ejecting iPod from USB Device Manager; when I click on "Eject", the iPod unmounts then mounts back immediately;
    - ejecting the iPod in Explorer (Right-clic, then "Eject").
So far to avoid any problem, I just disconnect the iPod after I shut down the computer. But I would like to know if there is a way to fix this.
    More info:
    - no error message at any time. The iPod can be ejected correctly, but it mounts back in Explorer and iTunes immedialtely after it was ejected. On iPod, menu appears for approx. 1 second, then the display goes back to "Do not disconnect"
    - iTunes 7.0.2.16
    - Windows 2000 (5.00.2195) SP4
    - iPod connected at the back USB port of my computer
    - USB 2.0 on motherboard MSI KT4 Ultra (MS-6590)
    - iPod software 1.2.1
    - Model MA003FB - Format: Windows
    Already tried:
    - reinstall iTunes -> same problem
    - reset iPod -> same problem
    - restored iPod -> did not help
    - connected iPod in another admin user -> same problem
    - tried on another USB port -> same issue
What I don't understand : I also have an iPod Mini (2nd Gen), which is working perfectly fine. With this, the eject process is OK.
    Any other idea ?
Thanks in advance for your replies,
    Phil
    MA003FB   Windows 2000

    Additional info :
    1. Same iPod 5th Gen (Model MA003FB - Format: Windows) behave perfectly at eject on a Mac OS X system.
    2. iPod is set for manually sync because library too big for an auto sync.

Hi just wanted to let you know I solved most of my XP problems with my new IPOD. It won't recognise the IPOD or driver and froze and locked up and then the battery died. After hours of trying different things here is what I did. I completly closed computer down. Waited 15 minutes turned on and reloaded everything. I put the usb cable in but not hooked up to IPOD. I turned off Mcaffee (all of it). After my computer came on. I then went and closed everything I didn't need in the bottom toolbar. (taskbar). I then reloaded the software and waited. Took forever to reload and I don't know why but whatever it worked but I DID NOT HOOK UP THE IPOD LIKE IT SAID! I instead shut down the computer after loading the software and waited 5 minutes and turned it back on. I again waited and shut of mcaffee. It loaded everything fine this time and said new hard ware and drivers detected. I plugged my IPOD in and YES I WAS UP AND RUNNING (THIS IS AFTER 6 HOURS OF PLAYING WITH OTHER THINGS!) I am able to load and play, burn, watch movies, see pictures and everything your suppose too! The only thing I see different than the instructions is I left my usb cable plugged in and when it said to eject the disk I didn't. I also didn't plug in the IPOD (5th Gen) and then I shut down waited and then restarted the computer. I hope this helps others because I know the feeling of wanting to return something you paid dearly for and worked hard at saving money to buy one and it doesn't work. My only thing I dislike about apple is they didn't supply a ac adapter for the IPOD and the instructions say to plug it up when trying to charge battery. DUHHHHHH, ya can't do that if ya don't have one and stores are closed and won' open until Monday! But at least I am up and running. I just hate having to plug up IPOD to computer daily to charge the battery which only last a half a day1
