Ejecting EVERYTHING!!!!

Hi,
So my laptop is really driving me insane. I noticed it kept ejecting DVDs but I just figured they were scratched... No, it ejects new DVDs too!!! great...even the ones that came with the comp. which means that I cant get my photo booth, which somehow got deleted, back on my comp either now. It is also ejecting CDs that I put in. However, nothing is ejected right away. It will go in and then make some noises and then a little later it will eject whatever it is i put in there...CD or DVD...clean or not...
Help pleeeeeeeeeeeease...

Length depends on the problem. I've had a computer sent in twice. Once i got it back in 2 days (replace the keyboard) one once it took a week (replace logic board). I think it just depends on the problem and the influx of computer they have. I would guess it'll be as simple as replacing the optical drive, I wouldn't guess it to be more than a few days.
Since it's within a year, you're fully covered. The only reason you have to pay a dime is if it's your fault. Going by what you say and the problem itself, I'd assume it's not your fault and they'll cover the problem.
As the other poster said, if you can I'd purchase the apple care. You can find great deals on ebay or other sellers. It's a little pricey, but something like that (if not covered under warranty) would have costs over $200, so even if you use your computer very delicately, things still can go wrong. It's worth it

  • Seems to synchronize, but after ejecting, everything is gone

Hi! I am not sure if this is an iPod, an iTunes or a MacBook problem. I've had my Nano since last October and haven't had any problems up till now. A day or two ago I took some podcasts off and loaded some new ones on, all manually. When I disconnected and wanted to listen to them, they were gone! Other things were still there, music and audiobooks, for example. I reconnected it to the MacBook and got the following message: "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "........" Go to the summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings."
I did that, synchronized some things and everything seemed fine until after the disconnect. They were gone again. When I tried synchronizing several podcasts and audiobooks on my husband's iMac, everything was fine. I tried it again from the iBook and got the same message.
This time after the Restore and synch everything was gone and when I connected it to iTunes again, I didn't get the message, but in the capacity bar in the summary section all the space that had been filled with blue-audio was now orange-other. There is only orange. I've repeated the Restore process a couple of times, put some audio on the iPod and ejected. Same results: nothing on the iPod and everything showing orange-other in the capacity bar.
If I remember correctly, there was a recent iTunes update and this is probably the first time I synched since then.
I would welcome any advice. It would be really inconvenient to only be able to sync things from my husband's computer.
    Thanks! Kätchen

I have the same problem, just happened about 2 hours ago, and kind find anything to help. I have a 16GB 4th gen nano and a macbook pro. the only thing different is that in addition to the symptoms you have listed I get the "ipod cannot be restored (or ejected) because files are in use by another application".

  • USB Drives Ejecting Everything.

I have had my 15" Macbook pro since 2010.
I have never had any issues until a few months ago - I do a lot of photo editing, and it seems WHATEVER I put into my USB drive, after a few minutes the computer randomly tries to eject it. Also- sometimes it won't even read my CFmemory cards (which I use a card reader plugged into my USB) anymore. And when it does- I have to move the files quick enough before the computer ejects them. Help? Is there anything Apple can do in store about this?
    -RJ

So, my MacBook Pro has now undergone a logic board swap, and when I got it back from repair everything seemend perfectly fine. The external drives which kept getting ejected are not ejecting any more, no matter how much I wiggle the plug in the USB socket. Then yesterday I tried a small USB stick, and bam - it's getting ejected again when touched slightly. I tried 2 different sticks and the same thing is happening. Then I tried the HDDs again - no problems. Then tried the USB sticks again - no problems. This is really driving me crazy, I cannot understand why it happens so intermittently and then works prefectly like nothing ever happened. Also, it can't be a software issue since physically moving the USB plug affects it. Now I am not sure if I should take it back for another repair and keep fighting, or just learn to live with it. I am wondering if it is simply a design fault with the MacBook Pro, or something to do with the way the USB ports are built. Any ideas on what I should do?

  • Help! Superdrive ejects everything!

    Hi
Every time I put a cd or dvd into my superdrive it clicks and whirrs for a moment then ejects it again.
Is this anything I'm likely to be able to mend /diagnose myself, or am I off for a replacement drive?
    Thanks,
    Jestyn

If you read the other threads about this "SuperDrive" you will see there are some things you can do before you call the drive dead. BTW - your symptoms are not like the rest of ours - so keep your fingers crossed.

  • My disk drive has stopped working and just ejects everything.

My disk drive has stopped dworking. I was just trying to import a CD to iTunes and it just spins it around and rejects it. I've tried with other CDs also and this does the same thing. Please help!

You may have a dirty disk drive or you may need a replacement. First try a disk lens cleaner.

  • After install all CD's DVD's keep ejecting without mounting

After installing the snow leopard when I put in any CD or DVD it churns away for 30 seconds or so and then ejects the disc.
I cannot get it to mount anything.
This is not the same problem as just the install discs ejecting. And the drive was fine before the install (actually I recall the drive did work for a day or two after the initial install but now consistently ejects everything when I put it in.
    Thanks for any help.

Just a guess, but what is set as the default action upon inserting a cd or dvd?
    From: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2490
    Set Your Media Preferences
Open System Preferences and click CDs & DVDs to display its preferences.
The top two pop-up menus let you decide what your Mac should do when you insert a blank CD or DVD. By default, both menus are set to "Ask what to do"; this action opens a dialog. You can change it to open your choice of application, open Disk Utility, run a script, or simply ignore it.
The bottom three pop-up menus let you choose what your Mac should do when you insert a music CD, picture CD, or video DVD, respectively.

  • CD/DVD drive ejects everthing

just got a brand new mac book pro 2,6 ghz.
installed all apple updates and wanted to use the cd player. it ejects everything.
manufacturer: HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA S10N, firmware rev. AP09.
my two week other macbook pro has a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E, firmware rev. ZA0E
seems bad luck although this problem seems more common.

--- part of the description ---
    Q) The drive keeps ejecting CDs and DVDs after installation?
    A) The screws which holds the drive chassis down are apparently too long for the drive. I suggest loosen them or screw the left drive rail in with a single screw in the front, removed the CD guide completely and screwed it all back together
The back screws should be loosened and / or left out completely if the problem persists.
    --- end part ---
So I decided to open my MBP and used the guides form ww.ifixit.com and loosened the screws as described above, closed my MBP.
The problem is now gone !

  • External Hard Drive will not copy/open files.

Today, I went to edit photos on my iMac. I have a 1tb G-Drive Mobile that I have been using lately to store photos/videos on. I last used the hard drive this past friday, 4/4/2014. When I opened Lightroom to open my photos the whole program froze. I them went to the hard drive to see if there was something wrong with the folder and I soon found out that I was not able to open any files on the hard drive. I can see all the folders and individual files on the hard drive in finder but I am unable to open/copy/ or view any of these files. Every time I attempt to open/copy a file my whole computer freezes. Once I unplug the hard drive (w/o ejecting) everything goes back to normal. I have absolutely no idea what is going on. It worked fine one day and the next it doesn't function. I have tried using it on 2 MacBook Pros and my iMac and same result with all three computers.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jaison

when I tried to copy all files
Exactly which files did you copy?
    Quit iTunes.
Copy the entire /iTunes/ folder frn one external to the other.
    Hold Shift, launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder you want on the external.

  • OS 10.4.11 or 10.4.8  ???

So my CD drive is also not working, ejects everything. Today I bought an external drive, supposed to work with Mac OS 10.4.6. But won't recognize it. Come to find that my Mac Installation disk says it's v. 10.4.8, but when I look inside the Mac itself, it says it's v. 10.4.11. !! Anyone else have this problem? And even more scary, my Mac is full of precious photo's, not backed up, and apparently this is the same model of Mac Book that is crashing. Need to find a way to back things up ASAP. Help?

First a little lesson on Mac OS.
OS 10.1 is the base model of OS 10.1
OS 10.1.1 is an update to remedy a glitch in 10.1.0
So... each digit after the second period is an update to that OS.
Each OS will have subsequent updates and this is the way Apple designates the differences.
    9.0.4...
    9.1.0, 9.1.1, 9.1.2...etc
    9.2.1, 9.2.2...
    10.1.0, 10.1.1...
10.4.6, 10.4.8, ...10.4.11 is the last of the updates for 10.4 Tiger
I am running 10.5.8 but my install disk says 10.5.6
    Does this make sense?
Are you using USB or Firewire to connect the external optical drive to your Macbook?
Are you using the power adapter that came with the optical drive?

Contact AppleCare or return it to the store at which you purchased it.

  • All CD's and DVD's being rejected

I have an 2.4Ghz Intel iMac 7,1 model and just recently my CD/DVD drive has started ejecting everything that I put into it after about 3 seconds. It pulls the CD in and makes a couple of sounds then just shoots it back out. Ive tried blank and non blank CDs and DVD and none of them want to stay in. Im not sure if this is a software or a hardware problem.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

It may be a hardware issue, or it may be something in software, such as a corrupted preference file.
As a test to see if it's a preference file issue, create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane. Log out and log in to the new account (do not use Fast User Switching).
In the new account, try inserting a disc into the optical drive. Is it the same or does it work?

  • Arch kernel panic, freezing during boot

Every single thing worked just great, then I burned a CD with Brasero (which I've done before), and right when the CD got ejected everything froze. My music froze, and so did the mouse and my computer didn't listen to any key strokes. Then I noticed that my CAPSLOCK and NUMLOCK leds on my keyboard were blinking. Was it a kernel panic? I don't know.
The only option I had left was to hit the big red reset button.
At boot, GRUB worked just fine, and then a lot of text as usual when Linux checks stuff and such, and after that a black screen with a non blinking cursor up in the left corner of the screen. Instead of that non blinking cursor, I've set gnome to autoload, which it wasn't. So I removed the autoload of gnome so that the usual prompt should appear, but it does not! So right now, I have no idea what to do!
I have checked my partitions with gparted on a live CD and they all seem to be intact.

Now, looking at the end of the file(s), there seem to be a problem with fglrx? And I think it may be my ATI drivers:
I used the "ATI Proprietary Drivers" for my HD4870 graphics card, but after I installed them, dragging windows around and scrolling inside them lagged a**, so I *removed* the driver in a nasty way, somehow... I maybe the problem lies there?

  • Blindsided by iPod Update

I updated to iTunes latest and then was prompted to download iPod update, which I did too. Now the iTunes says update complete to iPod BUT the iPod says DO NOT DISCONNECT. After I got online to find a solution, I saw what a nightmare this software upgrade package is. I'm debating on what to do. The iTunes seemed to have crashed my very fast computer during the last session...something that never happened before. Is Apple out to destroy our computers? After this upgrade, I'm definitely going to have second thoughts about future Apple junk. What a mess. I'm probably going to crash again since the iTunes and iPod have conflicts on what is complete. I've left the **** thing on and it's heating up agian. Hate this big time. Now I face losing all my music too!!!

ALl you have to do is rightclick the ipods name in itunes and hit "Eject" everything should be fine after that.
Far as iTUnes crashing the system, you just have to goto the PC makers site, download/install all updates for your model. Also goto microsoft windows update and get all the updates for windows too.
I know how you feel, I would be slightly upset too all this stuff going on, PC going down and all just keep in mind apple isn't out to "Get You" tho. Its a MAJOR update to iTUnes and all the testing in the world will not catch every single bug because theres simple to many combinations of hardware and software out there.
After afew weeks the dust will settel, other software makers will be able to ajust there software conflicting with iTUnes and release patches and stuff

  • Super Apple Care Service on dead Superdrive

This is why Apple is the best.
I have a dead Superdrive, it ejects everything.
So I called AppleCare and they said to take it in to get a new Superdrive.
Called my local reseller/repair company in Green Bay ( no comments on Sundays game please)... and talked to the service tech, who said he'd call me back.
He did, within a week, and told me he has my new Superdrive.
I Haven't even brought in the iMac for them to look at!
They ordered and got the part, BEFORE it was looked at.
Apple loves us. Trusts user's word on problems, and knows what this kind of service means.
I might be able to get my iMac Superdrive replaced, while I wait!!!
I hope some, who have problems, take heed that Apple does offer the best service.
Talk to Apple, and your local service techs. They like your input.
This was, since 1987, my very first repair of any Mac I've owned. I have had 3 new ones, and two used ones.
I am not a special customer. Or a corporate customer.
I'm a regular user like everyone in here.
I may be an unhappy Packer fan, but I am a very happy Mac today.

<< Apple loves us. Trusts user's word on problems, and knows what this kind of service means. >>
I'm very happy for you that your service was so good, but let's be honest, I don't think it had anything to do with "trust." It can't be a surprise to Apple that an iMac Superdrive failed. Just take a look around this forum.
    Sorry about the Packers, btw.
