Ejecting IPod Nano

HI. Anyone know how to eject a new IPod Nano without getting an error message? Even after I took off all the music I had put on it, I still got the message,
"The iPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application." How can it contain files that are in use elsewhere if I took all the files off of it? !!! I'm ready to take it back to the store. I am a longtime faithful user of Apple products and have never before encountered something so maddening.

Try to Turn Off Disk Mode by connecting your iPod with Computer in which iTunes is installed and then select your iPod and under the Summary Tab uncheck the option Use in Disk Mode and see if you get the problem.

  • Keep getting error message when trying to eject iPOD nano

When trying to eject iPOD, getting error message ..."cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application". No other application is open but iTUNES. What does this mean? and are there any tricks to get it to eject?

Usually this is caused when antivirus "Grabs" the drive to scan it in the background, and/or windows itself "Grabs" the drive for indexing and things. It also happens if you play a song off the ipod thru iTUnes, then stop it.
Usually rebooting will force it to let go

  • CANNOT EJECT IPOD NANO 4TH GEN

I cannot 'eject' my Ipod after sync because 'it contains files that are in use by other applications'. What do I do to safely eject?

Try a hard reset of it first.  See this article for instructions on resetting your iPod.

Once you have successfully rebooted it, try to eject it once again.

  • Music gone when I eject iPod nano 6th generation

    Hello,
I turned on my iPod today and find it had no music on it. I plugged it into iTunes and all the music was there, but when I ejected it from iTunes it still said 'No music'. What's going on? I also cannot eject it from iTunes as 'the files are in use by another program' so I've had to eject it from Computer.

I don't believe this is possible.

  • Accidentally ejected ipod nano while syncing and now it's frozen.

The iPod screen is now stuck on the "don't eject it now" admonition. It won't turn on, off, or do anything--it's just frozen. What happened was I minimized iTunes while it was syncing and that seems to have caused it to try to eject. How do I get it to wake up? Thank you for any help.

Try doing a hard restart on the iPod (how depends on which generation unit you have).  You may also need to connect OT to the computer and do a restore.

  • ITunes 10.7 can not eject my ipod nano 4

When I bought iPhone5, I update my iTunes to 10.7.21 to identify iPhone5.
But the new version iTunes can not eject my ipod nano 4 normally.
When I tried to eject iPod nano 4, the "usb mass message is uninstalled" message shows, bu the ipod nano 4 still existed in iTunes.
Then my Windows 7 system can not shut down successfully.
Can you fix this bug right now?

I'm having the same problem, including it not syncing my playlists. Also, I have the iBooks app installed and it won't sync my books?? I paid for those and thyey show up in my iTunes, just not on my touch.

Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone can help me.  I recently got my first ever Ipod.  It's the new Ipod Nano 7th Generation.  I have tried to synchronise it with Itunes but it says "Connected, Eject before Disconnecting" but nothing happens.  I have tried uninstalling & re-installing Itunes but this didnt help.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks for your help.

I think the problem is that the iPod got set to Manually manage music and videos.  It needs to be set up for automatic syncing again.  Just unchecking that Manually manage music and videos setting does not do it.
In iTunes 12, select the iPod in iTunes (using the device button), so that you see the iPod's "management" screen.  In the sidebar (along left side of screen), there are two headings (Settings and On My Device).  Under Settings, click on Music.  To the right, you see the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box at the top for Sync Music.  That turns ON automatic syncing for music.  Below that, choose the option to sync Entire music library (assuming your music library fits completely on your iPod).  Otherwise, you can choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres and make your selections below.  Then click Apply.

  • My daughter disconnected her iPod nano from the lead before ejecting the device.  It no longer syncs and we have re-set the device, but it now only occasionally appears on the computer screen any suggestions please?

Restoring the iPod will do nothing to his iPhone.
When you restore it wipes the iPod clean no matter what computer you use.
The only plus to doing it form your home computer is if you have a backup stored there, then you can restore from the backup once it's done wiping.
If you are away form your home computer, go ahead and use the computer you have to restore it, then when you get home, you can restore form any backup you may find. You can use this to help you do that when you get there: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766

  • IPod Nano won't eject

Ok so I'm new and I'm trying to get a playlist onto my new iPod. However, every time I go to the File menu and select iPod update, afterwards it becomes impossible to eject the iPod nano, and I can't even shutdown my computer. Well I get impatient after waiting a few minutes for the computer to shutdown when it usually shuts down in less then a minute. I get some sort of message that some program is still using it this is even after I quit iTunes and restart it again to see if that would help.
For reference we have XP and are running service pak 2. So that should be compatible.
    Thanks,

  • Where in itunes can I find the eject button for my new ipod nano?

Where in itunes can I find the eject button for my new ipod nano?

When in iTunes on the top R it should say your name and ipod and then there is a triangle pointing up with one or two lines underneath.  Just click on that and then it's ok to disconnect.

  • IPod Nano 6th Generation Won't Eject

iTunes recognizes my new iPod Nano (6th Generation) and I can add music, playlists, etc.  When I go to eject (both through iTunes or through Finder/desktop), the eject process seems to freeze and the iPod is not completely ejected.  Furthermore, I have tried to restore the iPod through iTunes and the disk will just spin after decompressing the iPod software package.  I have also tried reinstalling iTunes and still have the same issue.  I'm looking for any suggestions on how to address.
    Thanks.

Both itunes and ipod flash "sync in progress", then it stops and says sync complete, but no music was transfered. I restored the ipod thinking that was the issue, but it continues. I unchecked manually managing the music and in devices i unchecked "stop ipod from automatically syncing". What is wrong?

  • IPod nano randomly ejects itself while connected with iTunes open

While my iPod nano is connected and iTunes is open, it will randomly eject and diappear from the iTunes left column while songs are being updated. It then proceeds to have errors whenever I connect, saying some sort of file is corrupt.
I have restored the iPod, restarted the computer, and started from scratch. Whenever I try to upload my songs again, it automatically disconnects about half-way through. This seems to be a continuous problem for me.

  • ITunes immediately ejecting my two iPod Classics and my Ipod Nano (6gen)

ITunes ejects my two iPod Classics and my iPod nano (6th gen). All synced fine a few days ago, never had any problems. None of them are used as disks. If I uninstall iTunes, they will mount and I can see all three of them in Disk Utility. Verify Disk ➔ no problems. If I open iTunes, all three are disconnected by iTunes before they show up in the program. And they are ejected by Disk Utility such that the Mac no longer sees them.
IPhone 5 on the latest software, iPhone 6+ and iPad 3 all sync just fine.
Tried deleting all the com. preferences, etc. Uninstalling and re-installed iTunes twice, trashed SyncServices file, no resolution. Seems to me it's something to do with iTunesHelper refusing the connection between the iPods.
Running Yosemite 10.10.2, could be the update to the pre-release beta that did it. Or could be installing Last.fm Scrobbler, but that was completely eliminated, so I'm guessing it's the pre-release beta.
    Any suggestions?

The answer is rolling back to 10.10.1 from Time Machine. Doing that solved my problem.

  • My iPod doesn't stay connected, it keeps ejecting and saying disconnected (4th gen iPod nano)

my iPod doesn't stay connected, it keeps ejecting and saying disconnected (4th gen iPod nano) and im trying to connect it to my new laptop to add music to it.

I had the same thing happen where the ipod would cycle between connected and ejecting and disconnecting, with the USB device icon appearing then disappearing is the application tray. I tried reinstalling iTunes, resetting the ipod, resetting the computer and tried it on another USB port then another computer and had the same thing happen. I was ready to take the ipod back to the store and thought I'd try it on my work laptop and it worked OK. The two previous computers were the same make and have 8 USB ports each, two on the front and 6 at the rear. I only tried the two front ports. After it worked on the work laptop I tried one of the rear USB ports on the original PC, which is a bit of a pain, but it worked. I ejected it and plugged it into one of the front USB ports again and I got the same cycling effect. Plugging back into the rear port and it was fine. I can only assume that some USB ports may be borderline with power requirements which the iPod is touchy on. I suggest if you experience this problem try the iPod on ALL your USB ports even if you have to move an existing USB device to another port.
I did read somewhere in the support area that an external USB hub that has its own power supply could help if the unit has issues recharging through a direct USB port so since this issue appears to be port related an external USB hub may be another solution. I personally haven't tried this but if all the direct ports on the PC exhibit this issue this may be a valid alternative outside of returning the unit. Hopefully someone may find this helpful.
