Ejecting w/o burning disc

I am trying to burn a disc from FCP--through quicktime. The DVD processes then ejects right before it reads: Multiplexing and burning...then nothing. What can I do?? Thanks.B.

Hi
Not sure - to little info really.
• Guess - That the free space on the internal start-up hard disk is to low
more than 25Gb is a safe level
• Cheap media - I use Verbatim DVD-R
From FCE/P I do
1. Export out as QuickTime .mov file
• Not self-containing (not important but saves Time and Space)
• NO QuickTime Conversion ! IMPORTANT
2. This QT.mov file I import into a new iDVD project
3. iDVD doesn't care about Gbs but on duration. Duration is movie + menu/s
Menu/s can take 15 minutes or more if elaborate
4. iDVD 08 & 09 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
• Professional Quality *(movies up to 120 min.)* - BEST
• Best Performances *(movies less than 60 min.)* - High quality on final DVD
• High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) *(movies up to 120 min.)* - slightly lower quality than above

  • ITunes no longer burns discs

Hi, I came here in support of a new issue that has arose.
Heres the scoop: I have already created a playlist, click burn disc. It starts up fine as it has no errors when creating the disc. It then initializes, and says that it is burning the first track. However here is where the problem arises.
The status bar never moves, its just keeps saying burning the first track. The drive is spinning, sounding like it is burning regularly. So I let it sit for a while, come back, still the same exact place and the drive spinning like its burning. So I then click cancel after about 30 min. Of course it doesn't cancel, or won't eject so I force quit iTunes, and the disc stops spinning.
Then, once it quits, the disc starts spinning again and appears on the desktop, and iTunes reopens. The disc shows the right amount of tracks and the correct times, but when I go to play them, its just no sound.
I then try it again after restarting, and I get the same result. I even try changing the disc burn speeds and still the same result. Now I'm tired of wasting cds so I've come for help.
Some other details: I have recently updated to 10.5, before that I have been able to burn cds in iTunes with no such problem. Also, whenever I try burning unsuccessfully, more and more of my hard drive space gets eaten up and doesn't come back even when quitting iTunes until I restart. The drive is a dvd writer, but isn't factory installed, in the past versions of X I had to use patch burn to burn from the ilife programs, but its no longer needed in 10.5.

A friend this morning says that he thinks that iTunes has put a DRM (Digital Rights Management) code on any music that is imported into iTunes, whether it is purchased from the iTunes store, ripped off a commercial CD, or even copied from your friend's homemade CD, and that's why after some time is elapsed, you can no longer make a music CD from playlists in iTunes. He compared it to Rhapsody, which allows you to listen to your downloaded music as long as you still pay your monthly Rhapsody bill. Could this be true?!?! I can still make an MP3 disc, or backup my iTunes library to a DVD, but I can no longer make a music CD. Like others have described, iTunes starts the process, checks the playlist length, initializes the blank music CD, and then stalls, saying it is writing the first track, but will say that all day. One has to force quit iTunes to get the disc out. It shows the correct disc title and track names when inserted in a player with this capability, but all one hears is static-like noise when the disc is played.

  • Issues burning discs on iTunes/ error message about burn speed

I've never had problems burning discs on iTunes until today, I tried to burn one of my playlists on a Memorex CD-R.
    - The burn seemed to be going OK at first, but the drive started making an obnoxious, loud noise by the 4th song out of 16.
    - The progress bar in iTunes then said "burning disc, finalizing" even though the CD had not been finished.
    - The drive practically launches the CD out, causing it to drop, rather than ejecting half way and holding it like usual. An error message came up saying something along the lines of, "iTunes cannot burn this CD because the burn speed is too high for the CD drive or media. Lower the burn speed in the burning pane of preferences"
    - I tried it again without changing the burn speed (which I suppose was set to maximum) thinking it was something to do with the disc. The same thing happened the second time I tried to burn the disc. The reason I didn't change the burn speed when it asked me to was because I'd never been prompted about the burn speed and I've used the whole stack of these Memorex CD's without problems.
I am trying to figure out where the problem really lies - does this sound like an iTunes issue (which needs an update except that my system does as well), CD issue or a drive issue? Is there a more reasonable burn speed I should try next time?
Any help would be so appreciated, thank you!!

Try a different brand. Highly recommended:
    FUJI
    TDK
    Verbatim
Make sure the CDs are not dirty, smudged and/or scratched.

Your drive may need cleaning. Cleaning kits can be purchased from any store that sells CD/DVDs.

  • Cannot Burn Discs / Error 4450

My iTunes will not burn my selected playlist. I insert a disc, it initializes, begins writing my songs however stops and ejects the disk. An error message pops up,
"attempt to burn disc failed. unknown error occurred 4450"
Once this happens to the disc, the disc is no longer considered blank even though the attempt was cancelled per the computer. I am wasting discs and very frustrated since I was told itunes is very user-friendly. Please help.
Here are the details about my computer:
    Pavilion HP Slimline s7500y PC
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 2002
    iTunes 7.0.2.16
Intel R Celerom RM Processor 1.70 GHz, .99 GB of RAM
I need very specific instructions. I am not a technology savvy person; minimal knowledge of computers. Thanks.

I am having the same problem! I have tried everything that has been suggested and nothing has worked. I've downloaded the new version of iTunes, checked for updates on my drivers, reducted the speed and the playback gap, and nothing is working. The CD burns to about the 3rd song, then gives the error message and now that CD is no longer read as empty (I can no longer use it have been forced to throw many away). I'm wasting CDs here! Any help would be greatly appereciated.

  • DVD-R Auto-ejects and not burn

I am in the middle of a stack of Mitsui DVD-Rs and now the Pioneer 109 will not burn from an Apple or a Toast disc image, and after several seconds auto-ejects all the remaining discs in my stack. DVDs and CDs of any kind can be read and CDRs can be burned. I have cleaned the lens with a cleaner disc, but no luck. The logic board identifies the burner, so I think that's okay. Can it be a software/firmware issue (corruption?), or is the burner dying??
    any and all comment welcomed
    Thanks

The Pioneer 109 may have outdated firmware, which would be difficult to update on a Mac. There are lots of reports of difficulties when attempting this.
Older firmware, or just ordinary incompatibility could be the reason your DVD-Rs are not burning. If you have not already tried a different brand of media, do that.
Finally, replacement drives are much faster and more reliable, and work with a wider range of blank media; for example, NewEgg ([www.newegg.com]) is selling the new Pioneer DVR-115 for $29.99. It's very easy to replace the drive in your Mac with one of these.
Even easier, there are external firewire optical drives that simply plug and play.

  • Can't burn discs. Error message: The disc can't be burned because the device failed to calibrate the laser level for this media     can't be burned because the device

Cannot burn discs. Error message: "The disc can't be burned because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media". Then the blank disc is ejected.

    Two main possible causes:
    1. Poor media. Verbatim DVD-R work best, burned at only 2x or 4x.
    2. Dirty lens. Try cleaning the superdrive with a proprietary CD/DVD lens cleaner that uses tiny brushes.

  • Burning discs on new iMac

I'm having problems burning discs on my new iMac Intel G5. When I try burning discs from iDVD, the disc ejects and I get a message telling me to put in a recordable DVD. I've tried resetting the NVRAM and SMU. I've tried Sony and Memorex discs. Once I got it to work but it took 1 hour to burn an iMovie that had about 5 slides in it.
However, it does burn to disc when dragging photos or documents to the DVD and then burning the Disc. It also burnt a disc straight from iMovie but for the 5 slides it took about 30 minutes.
I'm using the same discs I used on my old G5 Power PC machine. I took it to an authorized Apple dealer and they said nothing was wrong with it.
    Any ideas?

I got the DVD burning to work. I tried some different discs and found that the +R seems to work better. I purchased some new Maxwell +Rs and some new Memorex -Rs. I got both to work however the -Rs seemed to have taken longer to burn. I tried some Panasonic -Rs and they worked. I tried a Maxwell RW and it worked.
I also had tried Sony -Rs and some other Memorex -Rs and they didn't work. The computer kept telling me to put in recordable DVDs. These were new DVDs and I couldn't get them to work. They worked in my older iMac G5 non intel machine.
My conclusion is that the DVD player in the new iMac isn't as forgivable as the DVD player in the older G5. I never had trouble with that DVD player rejecting anything.
Thanks Don for your input on buring software. I'm going to look into getting either Toast or Popcorn. Any opinions on which is the best? Do these software packages create an initial screen like iDVD does along with chapters and themes?

  • Burning disc, freeze occurs

This message is being sent via my iBookG4
I was trying to burn a disk in my iMac 10.5.8. The disc is still in the computer but the whole system appears to be frozen. The message on the desktop is "Burning disc: "Desktop" Checking the contents of "Desktop" to see if they fit on the disc.
The computer has been like this for over an hour now. The files I was copying are not big. . . .some work in Photoshop Elements 6. I've tried ejecting the disc but most everything is grayed out. I tried force quitting. Nothing happened. I turned the computer off for a while. When it came back on, it was still in the same mode.
Anyone have any suggestions? I've never seen this happen and am concerned.
    Thank you in advance.

somehow this morning the cd´s burn alright again.maybe my other activities yesterday interfered with the burning process.i didn´t download the itunes 7.6 version anyway, because i don´t need it.so the update to the 7.6 version cannot be the problem in my case.
problem is not solved, but i don´t have it anymore currently.

  • Superdrive is VERY loud and won't burn discs

The last few times I tried burning a CD in itunes it has not worked properly. As soon as it began burning the songs, the drive started making a loud humming/vibrating noise. After about a third of the way through burning the song files, the disc was ejected, and an error message popped up in itunes saying that there was an unrecoverable error. Not sure if this is related, but the drive also shoots discs out when I eject them, sometimes the discs fly out and roll to the other side of the room... The discs I've inserted have been free of labels so that's not the cause of the problem. (I've read posts of people having issues with labeled discs catching in the drive).
My computer is 3 1/2 years old, so maybe the drive is just dying. My extended warranty is up, so any thoughts to the cost of repair, or if it is an easy repair to do? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Vibration can be caused by an eccentric CD, so stick to brands you know work well. I have the toaster CD ROM, too. I'm afraid you'll just have to remember to catch the CDs as they come out!

  • Problems with New Burn Folder and burning discs

Hello, I find that my mini doesn't wish to burn discs. If I Create New Burn Folder and dump stuff into it, it won't accept the blank discs I insert as true blanks; I get a "insert blank disc" command. These are just standard cd-r and dvd-r discs. Nor is the Burn command available through the menus. And beyond that, once I have the disc in, the eject commands are disabled! I can't get the disc out.
The only way I've been able to burn is to insert the blanks first, then drag stuff onto the disc; the Burn Folders just don't work and then I can't even eject the dratted things. Can anyone comment or help---
    Thanks,

Furthermore, if you get info on the burn folder it only will give the size of the aliases. Does anyone know how to find the actually size of all the contained files?

  • The Attempt to burn disc failed.  The burn failed because of a medium write error.

When trying to burn a CD, I'm getting an error that reads:The Attempt to burn disc failed.  The burn failed because of a medium write error.  I experienced this message before and took my Macbook in to the store and the the genius was stumped but when he tried one of his CD's it burned fine to he concluded that the problem was in the CD's NOT the Macbook or program  HOWEVER, months later, I'm having the same issue using the NEW CD's.  Does anyone have any information about this?

    3 methods to fix this:
The first is to reset pram
at boot up hold four keys down till you hear 3 chimes:
    command(apple)=option+p+r
release keys and it will now reboot.
The second is to reset nvram
at boot up hold four keys down:
    command(apple)+option+o+f
    a black screen will appear
    now type: reset-nvram
    click enter
    now type: reset-all
    click enter
    it will now reboot
The third is to open system preferences.
    go to international
under languages: drag any of the other languages to the top, then drag english back to the top.
make sure "order for sorted lists" is set to english
make sure "word break" is set to english(united states, computer)
    then restart.
I hope this helps you as it certainly did me. :^)
