Ejecting windows CD

Hi,
I have bootcamped my macbook pro with 5GB for windows XP (I now realise this was too little) It took 48 hours to reach 80% then froze. I did a hard reset and now when it boots I hold down the command key but it does not allow me to select OSX. Instead it makes the mac 'bong' then the CD starts to load and it goes through to the windows setup page with blue screen. I've left it for 24 hours while the CD loads and it sounds like it's installing but still nothing!
At the moment I can't eject the CD and all I want to do now is eject the windows CD so that hopefully I can return to OSX and remove the partition and start again with more space for Windows XP.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I just booted to OS X so should be okay now
Good news.
It's the Option-key at startup, not the Command-key as you seem to have found out...
First thing to do would be to goto the System Preferences - Startup Volume and reset your OSX to be the default.
Next use the BootCamp Assistant and revert the partitioning back to one single OSX volume.
Also a verification (and if needed repair) of your OSX volume might be advisable.

  • Using osx snow leopard with boot camp, optical drive keeps ejecting windows 7 disc

Upgraded my late 2008 macbook pro from leopard to snow leopard.  Added the max 4GB of RAM and replaced the working 250GB hard drive with a new 1TB hard drive.  Rebooted with time machine from external hard drive.  Now tried setting up Bootcamp to add a Windows 7 partition, but the optical drive keeps ejecting the Windows 7 disc after it spins for a few moments.  The optical drive will read other discs, just not the Windows 7 disc.  How do I fix this problem?

you need to install the new bootcamp drivers from windows. boot into windows, insert the snow leopard DVD, open it and follow the instructions.

  • Messed up boot camp and needs to eject windows xp disc

    Hi all
After partitioning hard drive for xp and then entering installation, xp refuses to install BUT will not let me eject xp disk. Thus, evertime i turn mac on it trys to install xp, fails and has to be shut down making it impossible for me to get back into mac osx. Does anyone know of a way i can bypass the installation or eject the disk before it tries to install windows? If not i'll have to contact support, but just wondering if there's a quick fix first. Pressing eject on keyboard hasn't worked btw.
    Thanks a lot, Dan

    Hi
To eject the disk try restarting & holding down left mouse button.

  • Accidentally ejected Windows driver

In trying to eject a flash drive, I accidentally ejected the windows driver in the Finder window on the MAC side. I restarted the computer and the driver returned but now when I try to switch to windows side (using boot camp) a window says that it can't open be cause <windowsroot>\system32\hal.dll. is corrupt or missing.
Is there a way to fix this without erasing windows and re install with bootcamp? I don't want to loose the files on the windows side.
    Thanks,

i had to do a system restore, but now the driver is working

  • Parallel for MAC ejects Windows frequently

I have Windows XP in my MacPro thanks to Parallel. But frequently, when I am in Windows, either running an excel file, or a Word document or scrolling through Internet using Explorer, I am suddenly ejected from Parallel (and thus Windows)with no warning. I have a colleague with a MacBookPro with also Parallel to install Windows, and she faces the same problems me.
Has anybody also experienced this problem ? And if yes how was it solved?

If anyone has, you'll probably find them over in the Parallels forums: http://forums.parallels.com

  • IMac Bootcamp keeps ejecting Windows 7 installtion disk

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro which used to have Windows 7 on via Bootcamp but the Windows partition started crashing so in the end I uninstalled windows using Bootcamp reverting my hard drive to just one partition. Now I'm attempting to do the same thing again. I followed the correct procedures but for some reason my mac keeps ejecting the Windows 7 installation disk. It's the same disk I used when I first installed Windows. Any ideas?

    This is for UltimateRainbow
On the OSX side, if you put in the Windows DVD, can OSX read the DVD?

  • Failed Boot Camp Install during Windows portion - how eject Windows CD?

New iMac owner (intel, 24"). I tried to set up boot camp. I set the partion to 32mb. Then loaded a new Windows XP Home (with SP2). The Windows install crashed (blue screen of death) and my only option was to power off iMac. Now every time I turn it on, it tries to load Windows. How do I get Windows CD out of the superdrive?

    Hi,
I am so glad I found your post. I tried to install Windows XP with BootCamp and was not successful. Anyway, I'm on a MacBook Pro with no no left mouse button. How do I eject the disk?
Also, can I shut down the MacBook with the error message "Press Ctrl-Alt-Del" to restart showing? I tried plugging in a keyboard but it did not work.
I see that you are in Germany and it is about 2:00AM there, so unless anyone else sees this message, I'm going to have to power down my laptop and see what happens.
    Thanks!

  • Optical drive ejects Windows 7 install disk

I am running Snow leopard 10.6 on a late 2008 MacBook Pro. I have been trying to install windows 7 64bit through bootcamp, but when I get to the part where it asks for the disk, the optical drive ejects the disk! Anyone with a solution?

Hi everyone, thanks for your input. I thought I'd run a laser cleaner through the drive first and see if it would make a difference as I never use the drive I thought it might be dusty. It seemed to work as BC was able to read the disk and kick off the install, however as soon as the install started, a black screen came up saying "Select CD-Rom Boot Type" which I wasn't expecting and had no idea what to do (I'm no techy!) so I quit the install and held down option on restart to boot the MAC OS>
This is a windows 7 legitimate install disk purchased yesterday from a PC build company. 64 bit. My Macbook pro 2008 model has an Intel core 2 processor (64 bit) so I'm pretty certain I am using the right windows version.
So I think this is over my head and I may take it to a store for install and hope for the best!
    Thanks for your feedback

  • Windows CD wont eject

I attempted factory restore / original settings w/CD, some how changed hardrive name/ID  to same as CD /
Then unable to do install and unable to erase hardrive
So inserted windows CD to try and erase HD, did not work and now won't eject
First - how to eject windows CD,
Second how to acces hard drive and secure erase.

Update II - gained acess, started my Mac with restore DVD installed in drive and a thumb drive in USB. Upon  opening "Utilities", I selected miss - named Hard Drive and tried to secure erase. Re-named hard drive and utilities worked this time. Now installing original "Snow Leapard" back on clean hard drive. Next time I do a restore I know to check "Name" and make sure it is appropiate to system specs. Realized what I did wrong. Drag and Drop feature was used incorrectly. Actually (by mistake) I had made my hard drive a backup of instaltion DVD and thus the same name. (Opps) Won't do that again!
Guess premature in posting but had to give this forum a try / regards from Pat

  • Major difficulties installing Windows 7/8.1

Firstly, I'd like to apologize for my not so perfect English, but nevertheless - here's my cry of help.
Recently, I've had a "pleasure" of messing up my already installed Windows on my iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) that has been installed for almost 2-3 years and worked in harmony with Mac OS. Back then, I used a DVD disc to install Windows, so I thought it shouldn't be much of a trouble installing it now on OS X Yosemite (boy, was I wrong).
While trying to reinstall Windows for the first time, it couldn't find any drivers on my CD/DVD or USB flash stick, even though my installation DVD was in the optical drive and USB stick with all required drivers was in place. Although, my USB flash drive was formatted FAT32 and after that failed, I've tried formatting it to ExFAT (which both of the options failed). So I thought: "Alright, I'll burn a new DVD with drivers for bootcamp on the DVD itself this time, instead of a flash stick". Same result.
I'm sorry, but after 3 days of failed attempts at installing Windows, I might have forgotten other methods I've tried to continue my installation. So I'm just going to list all things that I've tried failed.
Using bootable USB flash drive with Bootcamp Support Software on it.(EFI boot) (Using Boot Camp Assistant, which wasn't even an option on my iMac, so I had to make some adjustments in terminal and info.plist) *
    * After successfully performing this method, I was able to choice on which partition I'd like to install Windows. So I choose the one partition, that Boot Camp Assistant created for me. It declined to continue, because the partition wasn't formatted for Windows OS. After formatting Windows partition, I've stumble upon another error which was something about changing my partition from MBR to GPT. I've googled the solution and that is to access Command Prompt and format partition using "diskpart" utility. I went on selection which disk and which partition I wanted to format(which I checked twice, if not more). After converting the already clean partition to GPT space, so I could continue - for some reason, diskpart utility decided wipe out my whole disk clean(including MacOS). Not knowing that you can restore your OS and all your files using Time Machine, I was terrified. After that, I decided not to install anything anymore, simple because I was tired of infinite reading and researching on how to properly do it.
Using bootable USB flash drive. Only this time, I've made partition as a free space in Disk Utility. *
    * This method is actually worked out, though not so well. I was able to install Windows 8.1 this time, but it had no sound. No driver, and not a single solution (regarding tweaking some settings in Device Manager or Sound folder in Control Panel) didn't helped at all. And now, I having trouble switching from MacOS to WindowsOS, because for some reason Windows partition is labeled as "EFI boot" and it is asking me to insert a bootable USB installation flash drive to continue.
I'm pretty sure, methods mentioned above is not all of the methods, that I've tried. But I think, at this point, I've tried everything there is to try in order to properly install Windows.
My main point is that I've decided to test my optical drive both on Mac and Windows and see, how it is able to read information from DVD disc. It was loading files, that was on DVD, very very slowly. Sometimes not even loading them all. It just went on spinning in optical drive, making humming noises and reading sounds. Now, when I think I've understood what was the main problem of failed installation using DVD disc, my questions are:
What can I do at this point in order to install Windows properly?
Is the optical drive really the main reason, that Windows couldn't locate some drivers? Because I remember my first attempt at installing with DVD, I've made it past the partition selection, but my installation stopped at 1-2% giving me the error)
How can I fix an optical drive?
Is it even possible to fix?
Oh, I've also trying to burn a Windows ISO onto my DVD using iMac, which gave me a Medium Write Error at the end of the process.
My apologies for the wall of text, but I don't know what to do at this point. I'm leaving outside of US, so there is no official Apple building in which I could ask for replacement or asking to repair my optical drive. I'm pretty sure my warranty is expired by now too.
I will answer any question, but please help me fix this problem that I've created myself... Thank you.

I know this is a stretch... but have you tried using a retail Windows disc instead of your own homegrown copy?
Let me be frank, I've never had any retail Windows disc (both physical and ISO versions) in my entire experience with computers. This one disc, that I used to install Windows with 3 years ago worked perfectly back then. (without me even using any USB flash with drivers on it) I had second disc for it with drivers on it and as much as I could remember, I've never ejected Windows disc during the installation, so that I could insert the second disc and it could find "device drivers" to continue. (yet again, I might be completely wrong here). But the idea of ejecting the Windows DVD during this "device drivers" error was terrifying to me. Even if it told me, that "ejecting the Windows disc at this point is safe". I don't even know how to eject the disc during this error manually from iMac. Please, if you have any suggestions and really think that I should eject the DVD during this error - I will do it, if you tell me how. Come to think of it, why it couldn't find any drivers on USB back then is beyond me.
My suggestion is to verify the ISO and DVD both using M$ FCIV tool. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290
I will try doing so, thank you.
If the ISO is valid and BCA will let you create a USB (without modifying BC Info.plist), it is a much safer and supported route.
No, I don't have any option of creating a bootable USB in BCA, I had to modify info.plist myself back when I try booting from USB flash.

  • How to reinstall Windows 8.1 on Bootcamp?

I am trying to reinstall Window 8.1 on Bootcamp after Disk Utility reported that the hard drive it was originally located on was failing and needed to be replaced. I did so. Now when Windows 8.1 installer launches, it thinks I'm doing an upgrade and insists that I "reboot Windows Normally" and then launch the Installer, which is impossible because it's freshly formatted, NEW hard drive.
Here are the steps that I followed:
    1) Disk Utility reports that Boot Camp drive is failing and replace it.
    2) Remove failing hard disk, replace with new one.
    3) Launch Bootcamp Assistant.
    4) Download support drives to USB stick.
    5) Begin install process using same Windows disk (64-bit FULL VERSION) used previously.
    6) Windows Installer asks for Product Key.
    7) I enter product key.
    8) WIndows asks to agree to license terms.
    9) Setup presents ONLY two choices:
         Upgrade Installation
         Custom Installation
    10) I choose Upgrade.
    11) Windows Setup reports that Upgrade can only take place from Windows environment, to eject Windows Install disk, and to reboot into Windows "normally." Cannot eject Windows install disk. Click Close box.
    12) Windows Installer relaunches.
    13) Install process starts over again.
    Please note:
    1) This is a fully licensed copy of Windows 8.1
    2) I am using it on the same Mac as the original installation. Only change is the hard drive.
    3) This is not an authentication issue. Windows accepts the Product Key.
    4) Parallels is not involved in any way.
I have talked to several Windows support teams. None were helpful and ultimately said this was a Bootcamp/Apple problem
Apple Support was much more helpful but said they'd never encountered this problem before and were flummoxed.
I have reformatted the Bootcamp hard disk several times. At one point I thought the issue might be that the Mac still thinks the original Windows installation exists because I kept the same name for the new hard disk. Renaming and reformatting did not change the behavior.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I wound up solving, or at least working around my problem. Selecting "Custom Install", instead of Upgrade, took me to a dialog box where  Installer could format the Bootcamp drive from scratch. Installation then proceeded as expected. Unfortunately this cost me my partition, but that was better than being stuck in this Upgrade Catch-22. Note that formatting and partitioning this drive within the Boot Camp assistant did not solve my problem.

  • How do I stop extra windows or programs from opening automatically when I access my Applications folder via Finder?

Each time I access my Applications folder via Finder, a bunch of ejectable windows or previously downloaded programs open up on the desktop. I have ejected each one or placed it in the trash, but it still happens. How do I stop this from happening?

I asked the same question on Yahoo! Answers, and I was advised to reinstall Firefox, which I have just done (with version 3.6.8). The problem seems to be solved. Prior to doing this, I attempted to uninstall my previous version, but Control Panel wouldn't let me do this, nor would Windows Explorer allow me to send the whole Mozilla Firefox folder to the Recycle Bin. I went to Plan C, which was to delete all the subfolders in the main folder, followed by the leftover files, and finally empty the Recycle bin. Then I used Internet Explorer to download the newer version of Firefox, and installed it. No more extra home pages, so far.

  • The "notification of disc improperly ejected" keeps popping up

I need help regarding the "notification of disc imporperly ejected" window popping up at various times. It indicates the computer may be harmed if disc was not properly ejected - but I did not eject a disc???!!  HELP!

It may be me, I'm pretty ancient myself.
I don't know which exact model, but yes something like this...

2nd guess is the drive dying, 3rd the enclosure, but of course a bad cable can do this also.

  • Installing Windows on iMac?

    Installing Windows on iMac?
I finally decided  to install Win XP oniMac. Reading Boot Camp Instructions all went well until afterputting windows disk in drive I have no mouse or keyboard functions.I'm using keyboard & mouse that came with my imac,  both are plugin USB connections (keyboard plugs in USB port at rear of iMac &Mouse into keyboard USB slot) I did read in Boot Camp that a USBkeyboard and mouse, or a built-in keyboard and trackpad  is required,so I reasoned since keyboard & supplied mouse are USB powered they would be alright, not so.Windows is prompting to push ENTER or F3 to continue, but I have no function or mouse pointer to do this.Plus I can't eject Windows disk or nothing else but hold button downon rear to shut down iMac, then if I restart iMac we go back toWindows trying to install again. How do I get outta this mess? Even if I get another USB keyboard will it function, or am I missingsomething here? Thanks for any help here.

You will have a much better chance of getting an answer if you post over in the BootCamp forum.
