Ejection Problem

I experience a problem when I try to eject my iPod(30GB Video). I eject it from iTunes by clicking on the eject button by my iPod. Then a window appears saying the iPod cannot be ejected because the files in my iPod are being used by other applications. How do I fix this? I've tried resetting it with the Menu and Select button action, but the problem didn't go away.
30GB Video   Windows XP

No, I didn't realize that we had to disable the anti-virus. We didn't do that with our 5th Gen i-Pod and we didn't have any of these problems. Is this something specific to Shuffle? Thank you.

  • Ejecting problem on my 2nd SATA Hard Drive Bay Caddy

I am having an ejecting problem with my caddy secondary HD.
Basically every time I close the lid, the secondary HD is ejected or, in case ejecting fails, I obtain an error message..very annoying situation.
How can windows 7 avoid to eject it? Do you know a best practice to configure properly the 2nd SATA Hard Drive Bay Caddy??
    Thanks in advance!

Really sorry, I didn't explain properly: I was talking about Ejecting OS side (windows 7 eject my secondary HD when I close my laptop, consequence is that I don't see it anymore in Computer).
ejecting is when you press here

  • MP3 and CD eject problems

I've started using logic express for a sound design class and have come up on some sticky
    problems.
#1 Mp3's won't import (I've posted this previously) The audio window sees the mp3's,
plays them, but won't convert and put them in the project folder.
#2 having spotty problems with cd's that won't eject on some of the computers, keep getting error that another application is using the cd, and
it can't be ejected. Quitting Logic is the only way to eject. iTunes doesn't seem to have a preference anymore NOT to open iTunes
on cd insertion. Tried ejecting via the computer key, within iTunes with the eject icon, both in the playlist and the lower right
hand corner, dragging the disk to the eject icon on the dock, and from within Logic as well. Seems iTunes and Logic is fighting for control of the cd, even
though the cd is not playing thru either app at the time, and there are no logic tracks that are looking to the cd to play them.
This is Logic Express 7.1.0, tiger 10.4.2
running on mostly Mac Mini's, with a few Dual 2 gigs.
MP3 problem is also present in Logic Pro 7.1 for me.

iTunes doesn't seem to have a preference anymore NOT to open iTunes
System Preferences -> Hardware -> CDs/DVD -> "When you insert a music CD" popup" -Ignore or Logic
Hopefully that'll help with the iTunes/Logic squabble.

  • Hard Drive Ejection Problem

I have a 2 tb western digital external hard drive that ejects from my mac almost as soon as I put it in. I formatted through the mac disk utility with 2 partitions... one htfs for time machine and one fat for transfers between windows and mac. Now every time I plug in my hard drive it loads the time machine then immediately fails and gives me the disk was not ejected properly error right after. I cant see the drive in the disk utility but the fat partition works when I plug it into windows. It is really annoying can someone tell me whats going on ??? Please help.

You may have a problem with that USB port.

  • DVD eject problems recurring

I have problems ejecting a DVD about 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 times I play one and I wondered if this was common to all iMacs or a problem with the Core Duo or OS X?
It happens with all types, self burned and retail so I don't think it's linked to a single type of disc. If it's uncommon I guess it'll need a service.
Just woke my iMac from sleep and realised it slept with a kids DVD inserted and paused. Again couldn't eject the DVD but could both stop the DVD and close its window and start playing again - now here's the odd thing it isn't showing as mounted on the deskop.
Maybe this is an OS X problem rather than the drive?

Yes! Thx God it's up and runing again! I have read this ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=455830&tstart=0 ) post and tryed to just have pacience and wait in front of a white screen for 10 min or so and at a certain moment it just started up! Pressed the eject button and the cd came finally out!

  • DVD recognition/ejecting problem.

    Hi,
The DVD player on my old Powerbook Titanium (purchased 6-7 years ago)no longer works. I recently popped in a commercial DVD (which played on it fine for many years), and suddenly the computer doesn't recognize the DVD at all. It is sucked in, and nothing happens. But after a few more tries, it finally recognizes it and plays the movie...only to be unable to reject it after that! I have to press down on the surface of the DVD player in order for it to spit it out.
Today, it won't even suck in DVDs anymore. I'll put it in, and it'll suck it in for a few inches, only to stop midway, whereupon it'll make some clicking noise. I click eject, and it'll push the DVD out. I just can't it to take it in.
Any idea what might be the problem? Thanks.

Hi, iPodGirl. The drive is failing mechanically, or has now completely failed. No one repairs them, so you'll need to replace it.

  • Firewire removable drive eject problem

    Hi
I have one of those intermittent failures which is driving me crazy. I've got a Granite Digital removable FW-800 drive hooked up to my Quad (10.4.7). Also have a SATA removable drive bay. Most of the time, external drives work just great, and there's no problem.
However... often enough to make me ask it here, I'll eject the drive, via drag to the trash in the dock, or via contextual menu "eject" and, after a bit longer pause than usual, the icon will disappear from the finder's desktop. Everything looks good, but...
... when I go to turn off the drive, or remove it, I get an "improperly put away...may damage drive" message.
And then... it's totally impossible to restart or shut down the machine. A power off is needed.
Leaving aside comments on how long the software should be looking for an obviously missing drive before simply giving up (hint: infinity is too long) there's this.
What's happening? (don't say that something is open on the drive... nothing is) and two, is there something I can do once I get this message to prevent the infinite look? Terminal command? Anything?
OK: one more thing - am I the only person this happens to?
    TIA

ex-programmer and Mac user since 1984...

Gleaned from a string of several painful experiences...
    When "OFF" isn't really "off."
When it's a switch on the back of some, and certainly firewire boxes fall into the "some" category, peripheral boxes. I spent I don't know how many hours chasing this down because I forgot something I'd learned a few years ago: it's OK to switch off the power to an external firewire box using the switch on the back of the box, but it's NOT OK to switch it off by turning off (unplugging) the "brick" or using a master controller that turns off the AC power.
Why? Because "off" isn't really "off"... keeping the "brick" alive keeps the system informed about the firewire device's presence; turn it off "at the wall" and you're going to seriously confuse the system. In my system, it would work this way: if I left the box switch in the "on" position, then when I turned on the wall power, the hard drive would show up on my desktop.
Now, I was always religious about ejecting the drive before I powered down, but my mistake was powering down "at the wall" instead of using the switch on the back of the box. I figured I'd save the power drained by the brick when I wasn't using the drive.
Bad mistake. About 50% of the time, when I'd eject the -next- drive I mounted externally, I'd get a message saying "improper device removal"... and my system would -seriously- choak up. Nothing would run; nothing would quit and I'd be faced with a forced hard power-off of my whole system.
Once I recalled what the heck I was doing wrong, and reverted to "once powered on, leave it on" the problems went away.
The problem seems to affect external SATA drives as well (although I'm not as positive of that as I am of the firewire issue.) So: leave the boxes plugged into the wall, and only use the switches on the back to turn them on and off. If the wall-wart bricks are eating up extra power, I'm afraid that's the price you pay for the modern age.

  • Disk mounting/ejecting problems... ESPECIALLY FireWire

Ever since upgrading to Leopard my 3 Lacie external drives have been VERY wonky.
I've tried a FireWire hub, as well as daisy-chaining them via FW800 (they're the triple interface kind), but getting more than one to mount is always a crap shoot. I've tried USB, and that seems to work much better, although I have an older Mac that only has USB 1.0, so it's pretty much NOT an option.
The other thing is when I do get any of the 3 mounted, actually EJECTING them is a challenge. Firstly, if it DOES actually eject, the finder window automatically closes. Which seems to be a bug (because it happens with ANY mountable disks, etc). However, most of the time I get a "cannot eject because this disk is in use" error, even when I am in NO WAY using the disk! No apps open!??
Argh! I know Apple doesn't read these forums (although, as a fan and stock holder, I wish they did)... but there seems to be a LOT of FireWire issues that cropped up with Leopard.
    Any hints?
    e

I've had the same problem, I use three LaCie triple interface disks, they used to work great but now they start unmounting on their own or getting stuck all of a sudden...so great when you're in the middle of rendering a sequence on Final Cut !
Whenener I manage to run disk utility on them (which is not always the case), they seem OK.
Is there really a problem with the handling of firewire by Leopard? Anyway to fix it? These jinxes really cause me problems for my work
    Thx for your help

  • Annoying disc eject problem

whenever I try to open my DVD tray using the eject button, the tray will randomly choose not to open.
I know I have to hold the button for a while, but even doing that, the drive will always start the eject procedure (I can tell for the noises) but sometimes it appears to give up in the process.
however, software eject always works just fine.
    what could be wrong?

Considering you had previous issues with the keyboard; http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8059296#8059296
that could part of the problem. Try a different keyboard.

  • 5th Generation iPod - ejection problems

I've had no trouble getting music on my iPod but when I tried to put on photos that were on my laptop, although iTunes showed that they were loaded successfully and that it was safe to disconnect, the iPod still had the "Do not disconnect" symbol. When I tried to manually eject from iTunes I got the message that one or more files were in use so I couldn't eject. I had no other applications running so can one of you lovely people please tell me what was the problem? I reset it and got it working but took off the photos in case that was what was causing it. Anyone else with this problem?
    judyou

By any chance do you have McAfee ActiveScan or any
other disk scanning software installed on on your PC?
If so try switching it off before you eject.

A pretty common trick used on Biostar SFFs (which are even smaller than the 180) is to add two Zalman 80 x 15 OP1 fans to the side panels.  Left panel toward the front and right panel toward the rear.  This gives a good cross ventilation flow and when you run the fans on the low voltage setting-----it is totally silent---so you haven't added any noise to the overall setup.
Drops CPU temps 4-5 C.  Might work on the 180.  You can see an example of the side panel fans----as well as another possible solution, watercooling, here:----just scroll through all the pics to find the fan solution...SFF Fans and Watercooling

  • Disc Drive Issues- Ejecting Problems

    Hi!
I was wondering if someone was able to help me with my problem:
I am currently on my second Powerbook G4... The first one I purchased in October 2005, but a DVD managed to get stuck in my drive and Apple replaced it with a new computer as they couldn't figure out how to get the disc free either. My second G4 has so far worked well, but the other day I stuck a disc into my drive and it wouldn't come out. It made the noise as if it wanted to spit it out, and then nothing happened. I panicked, waited a moment and then tried to eject it after the computer recognized it again and then luckily it came out!!
Has anyone else had this issue? Is it something that most G4 users run into, or is this something more serious?
Also- is anyone else's drive somewhat noisy? It makes a little whirring sound every two minutes or so. I used to use a friend's powerbook and I don't remember it making this much noise... I may have forgotten though.
I am currently overseas in Europe and very nervous about inserting another disc as I will not be returning to a the States for several more months and will not be able to go to an Apple Help Center.
    Cheers and thanks!

I have the impression that a tobacco smoke free and dust free environment do much to assure the reliability of CD or DVD drives in the Aluminum PowerBook series (all sizes). A friend who is a smoker purchased a CD or DVD drive cleaning kit to solve his problem, continually running the cleaner until functioning was good and disk noise was minimal.
These cleaning kits cost about US$15.00 and have a CD sized disk to which cleaner is applied. I've personally never had much luck with them but the friend is convinced his problem with tobacco smoke and/or dust was solved with one.
    Good luck.

  • Pioneer - 104 Games CD ejection problems

Currently the reader will read OS disks, and Audio but ever time I insert a gaming CD (SimCity, Civilization) the reader attempts to read it for 20-25 seconds and then ejects the CD. I think this is a subversive way for the machine to tell me to work and not play… Anyhow, Per Apple my firmware is up to date. Has anyone experienced this problem and/or know how to fix it?
