Ejects dvd with a minute left

I am having trouble with iDVD, I have made dvds before with it and they have worked just fine. Recently I have started trying to make dvds of greater length onto a DVD R+ DL. I select that option within the project info menu, and also select the professional quality option in encoding menu because the dvd length is greater than 120 min. Everything seems to work fine until I get to the multiplexing of the dvd and then with about a minute left, it ejects the dvd before stating that its done. However, once, when I tried to burn, it did appear to be completely done, however, the dvd wouldn't play on my computer or in my dvd player. Any help?

I am having a similar issue, though instead of ejecting the DVD, iDVD crashes and then restarts. During the burning process, iDVD gets through the "Prepare, Process Menus, Process Slideshows" steps. Proceeds to "Process Movies" step, where it gets about as far as "encoding audio" before skipping to the "Burn" phase, where iDVD promptly crashes.
I've never had a problem with this before; have burned many iMovie projects before. I picked up DVD+R discs for the first time, and switched back to DVD-R thinking that might be the issue.
I've deleted the iDVD prefs file, and repaired permissions. Nothing works.
Is this a similar issue, or should I be opening a new thread for this?

    Hi
Where did the original movie come from
    • miniDV tape Camera
    • other Camera - in what codec if so
    • from download - in what codec if so
    and
How did You go from this
    • via iMovie - how
    • via FinalCut - how
    • direct into iDVD ?
Did it play OK in iDVD Preview ?
Did You Save as a DiskImage ? Did this work OK ?
    DVD - type used
    DVD - Brand used
Did You set down burn speed ?

  • IDVD ejects dvd disc one minute early, before burning is completed. Why? What can I do to fix this?

iDVD ejects the dvd disc one minute early, before burning is completed. Why? What can I do to fix this? I have checked project via mapping and there are no problems with it. I have previewed the entire project and it runs fine.

    Good morning,
There could be a few reasons why the burn doesn't finish.  iDVD needs a lot of hard disk space to create the DVD -- 10-15 Gigs is starting to get low and under 5 G is virtually impossible.  Reduce the load on your Mac by quitting other applications while you're trying to burn.  Also, you may wish to break down your workflow into two steps (I do this routinely):
    1)  After you're satisfied in iDVD -- use the Save As Disc Image command rather than going directly to burn.  This creates a virtual DVD which you can mount and play on your Mac.
    2)  Second step creates the physical DVD from the disc image.  I use Roxio Toast to copy the disc image, but Apple's Disk Utility also works to burn the disc image.  Use good quality discs -- Verbatim is often recommended; I've been happy with Sony DVD-R as well.

My rental movie -- Safe House -- stopped/froze with 57 minutes leftnto play. How can I watch the rest of the movie, or delete it to download it again?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Have you tried stopping the movie and trying to start it again.
Unfortunately you cannot re-download rentals. If the problem continues, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History.

  • Problem with one minute left

Hello- Thank you in advance for your help. Several times now when I am burning my movie, it gets all the way to the end. My screen says: Creating Your DVD, Multiplexing and burning..., it says done underneath that but it says Time reamining: about one minute
However, the DVD has popped out with that screen up. When I put it in it plays parts of the movie, the beginning, but it freezes part way through and when I go to scene selection it will only play the first scene. What is happening? I put my screen saver to never go off thinking it might be that. I also just cleaned out the DVD slot by spraying it. Thank you. Thank you!

*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.

I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

  • Computer shuts down with 55 minutes left...

My computer has started to behave strangely. At 22 months of age and little 'on-the-road' time, it is now shutting down although indicator shows battery life of 55 minutes (sometimes more, sometimes less). Is this a first warning the battery must be replaced? In addition, several of my programs unexpectedly shuts down for no reason. Got plenty of space on my harddrive and a ship-shape structure among my files. Am I facing the slow but certain death of the ol' Bookie?

    That's fine.
Your current full charge capacity is 4332 mAh. Assuming you have a 15" MBP, that's ~78% health (if you have a 17" MBP it's less). Apple spec is 80% health for 300 cycles; you have only 81 cycles.
So, I'd recommend a call to AppleCare or a visit to an Apple Store. There are known issues with some Apple notebook batteries, and warranty extension (to two years) described here:

  • Reinstalling 10.5.6 has been stuck with one minute left.

Should I quit and try again, or will it eventually finish?
    What to do?
    Thnx.

Try using a   <a href=http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583>Target Disk Mode</a> to reinstall Leopard.  Which disc are you using for the install?  Is it a retail (black disc) or an install disc that came with the machine you are trying to install it on?

  • MBP keeps restarting at 2 minutes left of installing ML from SL

I started with latest Snow Leopard, no Filevault, repaired disk and permissions first, backed up via TimeMachine. Downloaded ML, started the install with "37 minutes left". At 2 minutes, I get a gray screen saying system is restarting, then it all starts all over again  from the Installing screen. It is now on its 6th or 7th cycle of this.
How do I get back to Snow Leopard, or otherwise interrupt the cycle without hosing files?
    Other suggestions? It's a mid-2009 MBP, 8GB RAM, 100GB left on HD.
    Thanks.
    =Steve

I tried again and Command-R did get me to the Recovery Disk. Doing as you suggest resulted in a window saying "Additional resources being downloaded..." or something like that, and it gives me a time bar, taking over 30 minutes. Then, it reboots and goes into the Install routine.... "37 minutes..."  -- When it gets to 2 minutes left, it reboots itself back into the Installing ML routine... back to the loop.
Taking a look deeper, this is from the ia.log that the Installer creates. Note that the last thing it does before prematurely rebooting is it starts to set the Startup Disk and "Bless on / succeeded". Using TDM, it looks like the installation is all there on the drive (I redid it with a clean install on an empty drive). I've even tried rebooting holding down Option key to choose the boot drive, but it doesn't work.

  • Macbook shutting down with new battery with 15 minutes remaining (consistent)

Just installed a supposed new battery for the White Macbook 4,1 model, from an Amazon seller.  The battery looks authentic, fits well, accepts and fully charges, but it is a little more yellow in color than the rest of the casing.  That's all I can find wrong with it.
The problem I am having is that the macbook will shutdown consistently with ~15 minutes left on the charge (under 10%).  I get no low battery warning.  I have tried numerous SMC and PRAM resets with no luck.  Battery temperature and computer temperature appear to be fine so the unit is not overheating.  The only indication I can assume is suspicious is that the battery will draw over 2 amps at times as that magic time remaining approaches.  Battery cycle count is 3 and remaining capacity is over 5300 mAh.
Here is the pertinent info from System Profiler:
    Battery Information:
      Model Information:
      Manufacturer:          DP
      Device Name:          ASMB0?6
      Pack Lot Code:          2
      PCB Lot Code:          0
      Firmware Version:          110
      Hardware Revision:          500
      Cell Revision:          102
      Charge Information:
      Charge Remaining (mAh):          631
      Fully Charged:          No
      Charging:          No
      Full Charge Capacity (mAh):          5336
      Health Information:
      Cycle Count:          3
      Condition:          Normal
      Battery Installed:          Yes
      Amperage (mA):          -836
      Voltage (mV):          10900
I'm running Lion 10.7.2 with 4 gigs of RAM installed.  I've read the Firmware version of this battery (110) needs updating but I can't find an updater that will run in Lion.  I also don't understand what ASMB0?6 means in the device name (what's up with the ?).  Again, the battery appears to be a legit Apple product and brand new by the cycle count (3).
Can someone help me resolve this issue?

    HI kostby,
I've been trying to calibrate the battery but can't do the 5-hour sleep procedure since the computer doesn't go to sleep.  Although I have noticed that the last time the shutdown occurred, the battery indicator light was one and blinking.  So the battery thinks it is drained but the computer does not (hence 15 minutes remaining and no low battery warning).  So I took the battery out of the computer last night with blinking indicator light and left it alone overnight.  I reinstalled the battery this morning and am charging it now.  Hopefully it calibrated.
If not, I am going to ask for a replacement from the Amazon.com seller, since I just bought it "new".
    Thanks for your insights.

I am at loss what to do. Whenever I put in DVD with media in it (including +R), it plays and reads it all just fine. CD data reads no problem too. However, when I put in a Blank DVD, it chugs and ejects it out completely.
Preferences are fine. It says 'Ask What to Do' is set when 'You insert a Blank DVD'
Here was how it started. Previously, I could put in a blank DVD and it would be just fine but I'm having problems burning after the 10.5.6 update. Read in a post somewhere to try resetting your PRAM which I did and now it won't accept the blank DVDs. Everything else is fine.
Would really appreciate ANY help I can get!

  • I am having problems viewing a TV episode. It freezes with about 10 minutes left and I can't click the button to move it to see if I can start it from a different point. Is there any way that I can fix this?

I bought the first season of Doctor Who. When I try to watch the episode, "The Unquiet Dead", it freezes with about 10 minutes left. I can not start it from any other point once it freezes. I was wondering if there is anyway to fix this.
