Elan Smartpad issues

I received my new Toshiba Satellite c55 last friday. Upon doing the initial updates I noticed the mouse would freeze up when using the touchpad. I downloaded the update driver for the elan smartpad and same issue. It just keeps freezing up. So I uninstalled it. I am just using the stock touchpad. Would anyone have any suggestions for alternative software to replace the elan smartpad? Or is there a way to reinstall the elan smartpad?
Thanks for your help!
-Chris

Another option is to use the Toshiba application installer on your computer.

  • Elan SmartPad and TrackPoint zooms when scrolling in L430

Whenever I scroll using my SmartPad: either with the "Edge Scroll" or the "Two-Finger Scroll" or when I scroll using the TrackPoint+its middle button, my web browser zooms in/out. Just as if Ctrl was being pressed. I have deactivated all the zooming gestures of the SmartPad, so "pinch zoom" is not the problem.
This is an incredibly annoying bug and it makes the ThinkPad brand lose credibility.
Is there any way to fix it?

Try and connect a USB mouse if that works then download newer version of touchpad drivers and install it and see if it works if same thing after that then try doing a touchpad firmware update and see if it will bring touchpad functionality back to life.

  • G500s Touchpad issues

After recieving the G500s from Lenovo for repairs on the touchpad I decided to replace the HDD and re install Windows 8. Now I cant use any multitouch features.
Tried to install the latest drivers from Lenovo but ran into issues
However I did managed to install the driver but any features/options are grayed out.
Also tried reinstalling windows but no luck.
    Thanks!

    hi GenNoNamae,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Looking at the screenshot, I suspect that you have a Synaptics Touchpad not an ELAN (you should be able to see an "ELAn Smartpad" or similar device in the mouse properties after installing the Touchpad driver. From the screenshot, it just shows a "Standard PS/2 Mouse").
     - Link to picture
To verify what kind of Touchpad that you have, you will need to identify it via the hardware ID or use a software like AIDA 64 Extreme Edition
    - Link to picture (Synaptics)
    - Link to picture (ELAN
Try to uninstall the ELAN Touchpad driver from the Control Panel (reboot if necessary) and install the Synaptics Driver installer from D:\Drivers\Touchpad Drivers (Synaptics, Elan)\Synaptics
Let me know how it goes.
    Regards

  • Elan touch won't stay disabled....

My work around for the crazy touchpad has been to disable it.  Had tried to change the sensitivity settings with no luck.
Now the device starts back on its own.   I have to go back in to mouse settings; it will show disabled, but i check and re-check the disable box and apply and it will disable it again.
Any suggestions to this or a fix for the touchpad yet???
    G580 20150

I have a Lenovo G500 laptop. It came with Elan 'Smartpad' touchpad driver. The driver propertiesdialog box includes a checkbox that says "Disable when external USB pointing device plug in". I want my touchpad to AUTOMATICALLY disable itself IF it detects that a USB mouse is plugged in. When I checked the "Disable when external USB pointing device plug in" and the touchpad does disable itself .... but whenever I disconnect the USB mouse the touchpad does not turn itself back on. This includes when I boot the system without a mouse .... the touchpad remains disabled even though there is no mouse. I have tried updated drivers from Elan and Lenovo but the problem persists. I expected the touchpad to toggle itself on or off depending on whether a USB mouse is plugged in.  Anyone else have this problem ?  Any ideas to solve it other than manually enabling / disabling the touchpad ?  Thx -

  • B560 touchpad scroll problem

I was trying to troubleshoot a freezing problem before login and so, following some online instructions, i unchecked "load startup items" in system configuration, which turned off ELAN smartpad at startup. When I tried scrolling up and down on my touchpad and it didn't work, I figured it must have something to do with turning the feature off at startup. Indeed, ELAN smartpad was unchecked in the startup tab in system config, so i re-checked it. However, when I restarted my laptop, the scroll feature still wasn't working until I went into the  "Elantech" folder under Program files within the C: drive and double clicked on "ETDCtrl." I tried copying this "ETDCtrl" into the startup folder but then an error just pops up after logging in. I have to turn on the scrolling feature everytime I log into my computer and it is getting super annoying. How can it automatically start every time I turn on my laptop? Also, I noticed that in the Startup tab in system config, the folder for ELANtech is labeled as "%Programfiles%\Elantech\ETDCtrl.exe" instead of "C:\Programfiles\..." like for all the other startup items, is this the problem? if so, how do I fix it? thanks!

  • G580 20157/2689 touchpad woes...

Hi All, just recieved the above brand new with win8 pre installed. Out of the box on bootup the touchpad was horrible, barely responsive and flakey at best.
I was going putting win7 64 bit Ultimate on so I did this and have all the relevant drivers installed, including the proper touchpad from here http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS028212 and here http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS028121 (I tried both versions) but to no avail. I know that the elan smartpad app is controling the touchpad as when I adjust the sensitivity using the app from high to low, I get absolutely no touchpad response at all! I have to run the sensitivity at high all the time.
I have also disabled the "tapping" as mentioned in one or two other posts to no avail.
So, is there any other "tricks" I could try or do I simply have a bad touchpad and I need to send it back? Ive also an image added below so you can see exactly what type of touchpad I have.
Any thoughts or suggestiosn would be appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Eoin

This is hands down(no pun) the absolute worse mousepad i've ever used. I can't figure out how to lower the sensitivity. if you barely touch the mouse jumps all over the damm place. what's worse you don't even have to touch the mouse pad for it to react. It's ridiculous. i've tried just hovering my finger over it, and the heat from my finger tip will make the mouse jump with ever actually making physical contact with the device. I hope this is the last time we ever see this mousepad on a lenovo product, or i'm going to have to boycott. it's absolutely aggravating trying to find tune knobs in audio software, or placing pixels in art software. i hate it. it makes me angry every single day that i use my laptop. the touch gestures also interfere with applications that require mouse button combinations, so i completely removed the driver. it did nothing as far as fixing the sensitivy issue however. when i'm typing the cursor constantly clicks on other objects, because physical contact isn't needed for the pad to click on something. just a little bit of heat from your wrist, will literally make it respond on it's own. a little compensation would be nice. I hope lenovo actually reads these forums, so they can see how retarded this mousepad really is. worst mousepad i've ever used. straight up. conacting tech support is next to impossible as well. i have yet to reach a human regarding any of the problems with my g580. at one point i tried upgrading my wifi card to an intel agn for it's 5GHZ capability. when i booted the laptop it said my card wasn't compatible, and would not let me proceed. it's a totally lie however, and the card is perfectly compatible. i booted up the laptop with it's old card in there, got into windows, and while the laptop was running swapped out the minipci wifi card with an intel agn 5GHZ, and guess what?? it worked fine. Lenovo is just extremely dishonest about letting you upgrade your hardware, even though what they suyppl <----(mouse jumped) supply** you with is garbage. I don't know what the rules are in china, but americans hate garbage, and we don't like being lied to about what our hardware can and can't do. One more buy like this, and i'm boycotting, and starting a social networking page to join the effort. I hate being ripped off.

  • I just updated to Firefox 6.0.2 and now the two finger scrolling on my touchpad does not work.

It is an ELAN Smartpad 2.2, with up to date drivers.

Type '''about:config''' in the address bar and hit Enter key. When you see a warning, click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' button
-> In the '''Filter bar''', type '''trackpoint'''
    * right-click '''ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled''' preference, click '''Modify''' and change the value from '''-1''' to '''1'''
    * click OK
    -> Close '''about:config''' tab
    * Close Firefox (click '''Firefox''' button and click '''Exit''')
Now you should be able to scroll using Trackpoint and Middle Mouse button on the Trackpad again.
Check and tell if its working.

  • Issue with Elan Touchpad disabling with Toshiba Satellite P55W-B5112 after startup

Upgraded the laptop from 8.1 to Windows 10 and after I rebooted it a couple of times, the cursor/touchpad becomes disabled after a few minutes.  I can go to settings and re-enable in Mouse settings, but then the left/right click pads don't work. I saw some older postings about this in a Windows community related to older builds of Windows 10 but would have thought this would be fixed by now.  Looked for newer drivers and not finding anything. Anyone else having this issue and figure out a way to fix it?

    hi pushpender,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Try opening the Mouse / Touchpad settings
Open Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Mouse
The last tab on this Windows should be your touchpad
Once you have that window click on the ELAN hardware then click on options.
Try configuring the tapping option in there.
    Let me know your findings
    Cheers!

  • Metro Ethernet (eLan) & Windows

    Hi,
We have just install a Metro Ethernet (eLan) between 2 locations.  It is up and running and I can ping between locations.  The issue is when I try to map a server drive on the 10.1.1 network from the 10.21.1 network.  Windows returns
"The network path was not found".  I can't see any PCs in the network through Windows Explorer.  I have tried adding a route statement to the route table, but that didn't help.  Network and File Sharing is turned on.  When the
PC is in house or on the VPN, it can see all the drives, etc.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,

  • G500 GPU 8570m issue

I have the essential g500 with windows 7 64bit intel 2020m and 8570m gpu. The gpu is clocked at 825mhz and has 1gb of memory. How is that so since amd site repots that this gpu should have 2gb memory and 650mhz clock?
I also have a wierd issue. Wether i lower/increase my cpu ghz or overclock the card the frames on games remain the same. Also the frames are the same even if i underclock the card up to a point. What kind of graphics card doesnt change frames when it is either overclocked or underclocked when the cpu isnt bottlenecking?  Is this a special lenovo version of 8570m?

  • Strange Touch Pad Issues on GS60

    Hey Guys,
So I've posted another topic for my potential battery issue but wanted to run this by everyone as well. I'm coming from a Dell Precision, with a touchpad I had really gotten used to. The GS60 is the first laptop with a "clickable" touchpad that I've owned and I'm trying to figure out if it's just me or if there's actually something really wrong with it. First off, it seems that I have to click near the bottom left or bottom right of the pad for it to be even somewhat reliable. If I click anywhere in the upper two thirds of it, I usually have to hit it two or 3 times for it to do anything. Even when clicking at the bottom of the pad it still sometimes "misses" the click even though I'm clearly clicking it. Even when just moving the mouse it seems way less responsive than what I'm used to. Is this just the nature of this touchpad or is this actually something I should look into getting fixed?
    Colin

I personally use this type of touchpad like the way I hit on an old design with one touch area plus two typical buttons.
But if you keep getting no response from lower area then I would suggest you RMA it. Maybe they can make it better by reassembling the touchpad.
As for the mouse moving, you can try to set the sensitivity from ELAN AP.

  • Elan touchpad not working in Windows 10

I have an Aspire ES1-711-P14W and have build 10240 of Windows 10 and the Elantech touchpad does not function in 10, This is not a hardware issue because it functions fine in Windows 8.1. I have tried the drivers from acer, looked in the bios for anthing mouse related. It does not show up in the device manager, when I unplug my Logitech mouse the "Mouse and Other Pointing Devices" tab dissapeares. It looks like Windows 10 is not even loading a generic driver. When I unplug my external mouse the cursor dissapeares as well.

I have a Aspire S7-392-9439 and I have the same problem after installing Windows 10. Type Mouse into the Start Menu and run the mouse control panel.  Go to ELAN Tab on Mouse Properties. The problems I see are that     1) the "Enable Device" is ghosted (whether or not any external devices are plugged in)     2) "Disable when external USB pointing device plug in" is checked, even after I uncheck it and Restart.  it sets this back to "checked" status no matter what. If I click on "Enable Device" it runs the driver software, however the two buttons don't work.  i.e. left button, right button.  You can move the pointer around just fine using the Touchpad as normal.  Also, multi-finger gestures don't work like two finger scrolling, etc.. Also when you click on Options to bring up the "Elan Smart Pad" options for the Touchpad.  You will notice that this button does nothing!!! I have noticed that after setting things up correctly and Restarting Windows 10, and logging in as normal, the touchpad will operate correctly for a few seconds.  I can move the pointer around and close Explorer windows that are open, for example.  However, as system tray icons continue to load in and other programs start up e.g. Sticky Notes and so on... the touchpad breaks down and you can't see any pointer or get anything done.  Something breaks it after it was working! The ELAN software is simply not finished off for Windows 10... it needs to be finished off ASAP as our computers are somewhat broken.

  • Buyer Beware: Griffin Elan Form for iPhone 3G

I was having issues with my voicemail recently and it turns on the clear screen shield that comes with my Elan Form for iPhone 3G triggers the light sensor and shuts off the screen prematurely when checking voicemail. The hardshell case is great but you'll have to use a screen shield from another company. The guy at the Genius Bar confirmed this by trying it on other iphones.

I have exactly the same case.
This is also why I went with the Power Support Crystal Film protector for the front of the iPhone 3G.
I have not had any problems with it and you can't even tell that I have it installed. The Apple Store carries them at the physical store and online.
