Elantech Touchpad Issue/Confusion on Fresh Install

This machine is an Acer Aspire 5253-BZ660.  I use this machine exclusively for running Mixxx (the linux dj application) which I use professionally.
On my first go at trying Arch, everything worked well. I was more than pleased.  However I experimented with tweaking various component latencies to improve system performance, and I also tried switching from the open source ati drivers to catalyst.  Big mistake because I lost my xserver, and after banging my head for a couple days I decided to do a re-install.
Now I'm pretty much back up--running the open source ati drivers--but for some reason my touchpad is completely unresponsive.
Here is my current Xorg.log:

My problem is staring me right in the face.  I can see that udev detects my trackpad, loads synaptics, and reports that everything's cool... but then for some reason it adds teh touchpad again, but this time assigns it to /dev/input/mouse0.  It then tries to access the device there, can't find it, and then unloads synaptics...
I've done some searching both here and elsewhere, but haven't found a solution.  I've tried both commenting out and deleting the touchpad part of my evdev configuration file.  I've even hidden the 10-synaptics* file, which someone found actually stopped udev from doing this.
I am running udev 1.7, and haven't yet downgraded, but I seemed to recall seeing an announcement that this was an issue with the init scripts and that the bug was corrected...
One last thing, my install disc is dated 5-23-11 so it has the core packages that were current at that date.  I've only used this disc, but do tend to choose the net packages as my source, so I'm sure this problem stems from something that was updated after 5-23.
Hope someone can help me fix this...
-JLR
p.s.  An idea just hit me as a possible workaround.  I'm going to check if /dev/input/mouse0 exists, and if it doesn't I guess I could just sim link it to /dev/input/event* and then udev should hopefully access the touchpad despite which path it uses... if that works, cool, but I'd like to get the system running as it's intended.  Thanks again.

I'm having the same issue since two nights ago, when I rebooted my laptop.  There were some brief errors on one of the DAEMONS, but the init procedure switched to the login screen before I had a chance to read the errors.

  • Network issues with Leopard fresh install

I have an iBook that I was running Leopard on with no issues yesterday. It is no longer my main computer, so I wanted to wipe everything and start from scratch with a fresh install of Leopard. The install went smoothly. I did an Erase & Install setup from a Leopard Upgrade disc (but already had Leopard on my system so upgrade verified OK). When I booted up for the first time, it appeared everything was working normally.
I went online, downloaded a couple pieces of software I frequently use, and then started to set things up. This is when I ran into issues. I could browse the web without a problem. I could set up email with POP access, but not IMAP. AIM with Adium connects just fine. Tweetie won't connect. Dropbox won't connect. It's like some ports are being blocked, but others aren't, and I can't figure out why.
    I have tried/verified:
    OSX firewall is off
    Restarted router/cable several times
iBook is in router's DMZ- outside of router firewall
    Repaired permissions
    Reset PRAM
Anyone have any suggestions or other troubleshooting ideas?

Here are the steps to selling*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/selling.html
Mac Pros that shipped with Leopard should install from the Mac Pro labelled discs. Those that came with pre-Leopard, you should still include the Mac Pro discs, though if you desire to install Leopard on them, you should also include the Leopard discs that are retail. Leopard retail looks like * and do not say Upgrade, DropIn, or OEM.

  • Server 2012 fresh install - Running at a crawl. Possible hardware issue?

    Hello All,
I have recently purchased a used server and just fresh installed Server 2012 to evaluate it, and I am experiencing a issue with it running very slow.   So far nothing has been setup or installed besides the OS, hard drives, and a external usb drive,
so it is pushing me to believe my issue is hardware related.
First let me describe the issue more.   Basically everything is slow to load.  Control panel takes 20 seconds...  trying to load disk management and other snap in from administrative tools all take 15-20secs+ and first come up in
a greyed out window or the administrative tools window goes to "Not Responding" for a few seconds then loads it.
I do not think it is due to the fact the server is used with slightly dated hardware as it has Dual Quad-Core 2.66 Xeons & 16gb ECC Ram, so I was thinking their must be a bad piece of hardware in there?  Maybe bad ram?
Anyway I plan to start hardware diagnostics, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any insight or suggestions for me.  And to verify if this sounds like a hardware issue to you as well.
    Thanks!

Windows 2008 R2 that is on top of the list of supported operating systems. It is a good choice for some testing with M350 G5. Then you can test the in-place upgrade and application compatibility test will tell you, which component makes the problem.
If for example onboard NIC is not compatible, then you can use another NIC card that is compatible. When it is RAID controller (very often), then either use another RAID or single HDD (it is test only, not for production environment).
You can explore the virtualization path. Get know if appropriate hypervisor from VMvare is compatible with this hardware is also compatible with Windows Server 2012 R2. VMware forum may answer your question on virtualization. Working in virtual environment
    will provide some experience too.
Majority of current desktop equipment allows you for testing Windows Server 2012 R2. There are some exceptions, namely "high end game machines" that make you to find remedy for drivers (example
MAXIMUS IV GENE-Z - here is a need to adapt inf file for NIC, because of there is low end NIC on motherboard.)
For low performance issues use native tools like Performace Monitor and diagnostics - Event logs and Device Manager. For detailed analysis consider Sysinternals tools.

  • Windows Media Player plugin does not install on a fresh install of Firefox 15. This is a real issue with new students.

I have them go to the correct site:
plugin download page on Interoperability Bridges.
    My only options are:
    1. Have them move some files over manually; which isn't feasible with students who are technically challenged.
    2. Have them install an earlier version of Firefox. 11 is the last known good version that accepts the WMP install. The problem I am finding with this is even though I tell them not to update before installing WMP somehow they still manage to do it. A lot of times they don't know how to tell me what version of ANY browser they are using.
Firefox is one of the few browsers that work with our LMS well, but this plug problem is a real issue.
This only pertains to any student who has never had Firefox on their computer prior to 11.
    Thanks in advance.

I noticed it after 11, however with 12 students students experienced problems with puzzles in Angel LMS. We had people roll back to 11.
13 came out and that's when the trouble started. I usually stay in beta so I can get a idea of what's working. Once again I had people roll back to 11.
I logged into a system here I had not logged into before and did a fresh install of 11 and I was able to recreate the problem myself.
Getting people on 11 is a little harder this semester because I had to locate the 11 install and send that along with the plugin to new users. The 11 install likes to force the 15 update so they have to get the plugin installed right away. Sometimes the concept is a little much for some people.
Edit: 12 might have been okay, since we were rolling back anyway. I don't recall any issues with WMP the few weeks students had been using it.
Edit 2: I do remember trying to search these forums for the issue and someone posted that they had been experiencing the same problems with 12 beta (at the time it was beta) and I think it was explained as being a beta issue and it never went anywhere else.

  • Fresh Install of UCCE 9.0 - Issue

Get error following  when starting the Configuration Manager on AW  on a fresh install of UCCE 9.0 :
Unable to intiailze real time feed for instance ICM1. Unable to proceed until realtime can be established.

    Okay lets start over....
If you dumped the clgr process from the logger, I'm sure you're going to run into a lot of errors. So in your case...
    cdlog icm1 la
    dumplog clgr /o
You can type in clgr.txt from the next command to open the dumplog. Can you post that log file? I'm sure it's littered with errors.
The next you should check is your Web setup. I had this exact issue back in September during an upgrade and my issue was due to the fact that I entered in the incorrect hostname for the Central Controller Connectivity. So lets step through this...
Log into Web Setup on the Rogger
Click on Instance Management and confirm that the Facility and Instance are correct, in addition to the Instance Number which in all likely hood is 0. This of course is assuming that you successfully went ran the domain manager tool.
Under Component Management, click on Routers
Deployment page: Fault Tolerance Mode: Duplexed
Router Connectivity page: Confirm that the hostname you are entering for the Private and Public interfaces do in fact exist as DNS records, or at the very least, exist as a entry in the local host file.
Enable PG page: Enter the number range for the PGs
Router Options page: Make sure Enable Database Routing box is checked
Under Component Management, Click on Loggers
Deployment page: Fault Tolerance Mode: Duplexed
Central Controller Connectivity: Be absolutely positive that you are entering in the hostnames for your Rogger that corresponds to your Private network. For instance, DallasRoggerAPrv. Again, these hostnames should have DNS records or at the very least be an entry within the local host file.
Additional Options page: Check the box for Enable Historical/Detail Data Replication
Log into your AW-HDS server and launch Web Setup
Click on Instance Management and confirm that the Facility and Instance are correct, in addition to the Instance Number which in all likely hood is 0. This of course is assuming that you successfully went ran the domain manager tool.
Under Component Managent, click Administration & Data Server
Deployment size page: I'm sure you'll want to select Small to Medium
Role page: Select what fits your business needs. I always seem to select the first option
Administration & Data Server Connectivity page: For Primary and Secondary Admin & Data Server, put in the same hostname for whatever local server you are on. For the Primary/Secondary Pair Name, this will come into affect when you setup your CUCM PGs and will be defined in PG Explorer.
Database and Options: Select what fits your business needs here.
Central Controller Connectivity page: This is the page where I made my mistake in September and entered in the wrong hostnames. So take it from me, be absolutely certain that you enter in the correct hostnames for Side A and Side B here. Also, enter in the domain name suffix for Central Controller Domain Name, this should have been defined in Domain Manager tool.
Cycle services and then try to Initialize the database on the AW-HDS again

  • [SOLVED] Touchpad issues with Eee 900A, only with Arch.

Hi guys, posting here because I'm having a hard time tracking down this issue.
I recently aquired an Eee PC 900A, which I have running the 2-09 arch build no prob, but I'm having one massively annoying issue with the touchpad under X.
Whenever I lift my finger and replace it on the touchpad, at anything but super slow speed (and sometimes even then), the cursor will jump, an in or so back..
Now I thought this might be a hardware issue, so I've tried booting into different distros (after trying tons of configs  for the synaptics driver in xorg.conf), and this dosen't occur in the Xandros distro that ships with the Eee, or in Eeebuntu..
I'm pretty certain it's not a  config issue, Eeebuntu uses hal, I've tried using hal, and dozens of xorg.confs.. I've also tried the zen-eee kernel for the 1000/901's, which is older, and still has the same issue.
So I'm sure this is a software issue, but I'm not sure which.. It even happens if I dont have the xf86-input-synaptics driver installed.. I'm not going to post my xorg.conf here, because it's irrelevant.. I've tried using tons, including the one that ships with xandros..they all change aspects of the synaptics driver, but none affect this issue.
Anyone else having this issue? Fixes, suggestions?
    Thanks.

    hi guys,
I had a similar bug on my netbook with the Elantech touchpad. I have reported a bug to the maintainer of the Elantech driver and I get a patch that fix it.
    description of my bug:
with two fingers above the touchpad, tap alterrnatively with each finger on the touchpad.
    - expected behaviour: the cursor does not move.
    - actual behaviour: the cursor jumps sometimes to the left or the right.
this only happens when configuring the touchpad with synaptics (by defaults, mine is detected as a mouse)
is your bug the same than mine ?
are you using both the proto=exps option and synaptics ? (I still have the bug in this configuration)
if it is the same bug, I have submited the patched kernel to AUR

  • ASUS UL30 Elantech touchpad jitter/jumping

I've been running Arch x86_64 for over a year on this laptop, and recently had to send it back for  (dropped it).  I think they simply replaced the laptop instead of just replacing the shell, so it may actually have a different touchpad or a hardware revision.
Anyhow, the touchpad works, even with two-fingered scrolling and three-finger right click, however I experience cursor 'jitter' and 'jumpiness', even with a single finger completely still.
I tried enabling [testing] and updating everything....that didn't fix it.  Does anyone have suggestions for /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf settings?  In the past on my other laptops I've never had to configure anything, just simply install xf86-input-synaptics.
It looks like there was a kernel fix in the aur at one point in time, but it's quite old:
    http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=24815
Also, it's an Elantech touchpad.  Here is the output of dmesg:
    dmesg |grep elan
elantech: assuming hardware version 2, firmware version 4.1.1
elantech: Synaptics capabilities query result 0x7e, 0x13, 0x0d.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  This has rendered my touchpad very inaccurate.

I am running [testing], yes. It's working great when your computer is all-intel
I have also never done any config, and I have the same file present.
When I press a finger down it's completely still. It moves like it should, and tap-to-click, two-finger-scroll and two-finger-middle-click is enabled by default and working.
I use gnome, and under mouse settings I have a 'touchpad' tab, but none of the settings seems to work.
Now I may be imagining, but I think that the bug where Elantech touchpad = Logitech mouse is solved. You should try and enable testing repository. I don't know what kernel you are using, but in 2.6.37 it's all good.

  • No DHCP after fresh install Windows 7 64 bit

OK so we are upgrading out computer to windows 7. A particular model has gave me some really wierd issues. it is a lenovo 7844B4U. After a fresh install off the cd of windows 7 64 bit dhcp does not work and if we leave the cable plugged in it overloads
the network. It has the right drivers and nothing seems to work, only a static ip works. Now we have the 32 bit image of Win 7 that came with the box. if we install that then DHCP work just fine and it work. It only happens to this particulr model. I have
    tested on 3 different boxes.

I'm a bit confused: you put a hard drive with an -identical- 64-bit install of Windows 7 from a non-working machine into another non-working machine and it begins to work correctly? Or is it a different 64-bit build of Windows 7? Or is it something else
altogether? It seems odd that an identical build on identical hardware would work on one machine but not both - something has to be different, I think.
If you have DHCP set up with registered MAC addresses, and if these machines originally all had static addresses, are you sure their MACs are registered correctly? And, if they have multiple NICs, are all of the NICs MAC adresses registered? If only one
of multiple is registered,  are you connecting to that one?
Is DHCP newly implemented, or has it been around for a while? If it has been around, then was there a reason those XP builds had their IP addresses set statically?
Ok let me try to explain it a little better. I have 3 computer all the same models 7844B4U. I have 3 hard drives that work in the same model. Hard drive 1 has XP installed and had a static IP set. Hard drive 2 has our custom 64bit image of windows 7. and Hard
drive 3 has a same image that came with the computer when we got them which is Windows 7 32 bit. the xp image had a static ip and was done before my time here so I have no idea why they gave it an ip or what. Now computer 1 and computer 2 will not pick up
dhcp. Those 2 had static ips set in the computer. Computer 3 will pick up dhcp. No matter which of the 3 hard drives I put in computer 1 and 2 dhcp will not work. Now if i put all 3 hard drive in computer 3 they all pick up dhcp. And computer 3 never had a
    static ip set before.

  • Fresh install Win 8.1 Pro into Pavilion X2 (10", 32GB tablet)

Have a Pavilion X2 (32GB version) with Win 8.1 Bing.
Need to get into domain, therefore wanted to fresh install Win 8.1 Pro, at the same time remove the recovery partition for more space.
F10 to bios to set bootup to USB drive, pops in a Win 8.1 Pro x64 installation disc, but X2 refuses to boot to disc.
Is it the x64 version disc problem or have i missed some setting to make the X2 boot to disc properly??

I did not deactivate a photoshop cs6 before there was a new "C" hard drive installed on my computer and a Win7 Pro fresh install too. How can I activate photoshop on the new hardware if I can't deactivate it on the old hardware that is no longer available? Any help will be appreciated.

If it's the same machine (same CPU) there should not be any need to activate.  The actiovation is tied to your CPU.

  • ITunes will not work on Fresh INstall of Vista x64 SP1

I have a strange issue. I have a Windows Vista x64 with SP1 (Yes the DVD is a production DVD from Microsoft not a slip stream copy.) and I wanted to do a fresh install of Vista with SP1. Reinstalled OS and everything is running great but iTunes. When I start iTunes I get this error message about "mssip32.dll" being damaged or corrupt please reinstall the app. So I looked around good old Google and apple.com. I found several fixes about re-registering a set of dll files. So did them all, no change. Reinstalled Vista from scratch again, no change. So for the heck of it I reinstalled Vista with no SP1 installed and then applied SP1 and it works fine. I reinstalled Vista with SP1 and have been running it for over a week and everything on the system is tested and solid as a rock with no issues. The only program that will not work is iTunes. I have also tried all the way back to version 7.4 and no luck.
    Any ideas on this?

  • Satellite L655 - Sound not working on fresh install of Windows 7 Pro x64

    Howdy all,
I purchased an L655-S5111 from Newegg that was on sale, put an SSD into it, and then installed a legitimate copy of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit I received from my current employer (I'm an IT guy). I've updated to the latest BIOS revision (1.70), and I've got all Windows updates installed, all drivers installed, including the correct Conexant HD Audio and ATI HDMI Audio drivers. Unfortunately, sound does not work. Sound worked briefly when I first installed Windows 7, then I muted it until I could get it set up with headphones. When I unmuted it, it had ceased to work.
This laptop is less than 3 weeks old at this point, and I get no audio over headphones or speakers, although Windows clearly shows no issues with the drivers, they're the latest version, on a fresh install, and I can see the audio in the mixer playing. The microphone built-in to the laptop does pick up sound as well. I believe that this is most likely not an issue of physical interconnection, but more likely a software level issue, I'm just having trouble identifying where it is at.
I also have no related error messages anywhere in the event logs.

I have two problems with installing the recovery image:
    1) I didn't get a copy of the recovery media with the system
    2) The recovery media would install Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit which is what came with the laptop.
Since I have legitimately licensed copies of Windows 7 Pro/Enterprise 64-bit, I would much rather install that. Since I used the drivers and software from the Toshiba website for this particular model, it should be working. There should be no functional difference between the recovery media and a fresh Windows install from the Microsoft-provided Windows media and Toshiba provided drivers from their website.
As you can see in the sysinfo (I'm assuming Keany the respondent is the admin that approved my post and edited it, thus had access to the data which was removed) I have all the Toshiba software and drivers installed, identically to if this was the recovery image, I just have it on a different edition of Windows 7.
I'm open to any other suggestions, but unfortunately it is not possible to do the above.

  • Very slow Mac, compared to when running a fresh install

I was wondering if anyone could help me diagnose the reason for my mac being so slow. (Eg 1.5-3 minute boot up as opposed to 15-20 seconds) And why it takes a long time to load a lot of things. I have restored this from a time machine partition, so I believe something has transferred over incorrectly resulting in this general sluggishness of the system.
I have tried disabling all Startup items, disconnecting all external devices, but to no real success.
Here's the boot log of the system below, where I've noticed it hangs after posting FIPS success.
I was wondering if anyone could point me to any of the things that look suspicious? I've tried, but I haven't been able to find out what is causing it, as I believe the process that is causing this sluggishnesh begins at startup.

    And
why it takes a long time to load a lot of things.
    I have restored this
    from a time machine partition.
TimeMachine is only a backup and restore, it won't fix issues in software and according to your information, doesn't even optimize the restore for best performance on boot hard drives.
What you need to do to regain your speed is to understand how your machine works
    Why is my computer slow?
Fix any and all issues in software following this list of fixes
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Then follow this defrag method I've outlined
How to safely defrag a Mac's hard drive
    Most commonly used backup methods
There shouldn't be need to reinstall OS X fresh unless your having file structure issues which if they are should appear when in the Steps, which then a zero erase and install will cure as well as any bad sector issues, the defrag step wouldn't be necessarry on a freshly installed system obviously as the files are written all together, not in portions all over the drive.
    Hope this assists.

  • Fresh Install of iTunes and some Questions

I just did a fresh install, set up home sharing, and did an iCloud match so my whole library is in the cloud.  I have my library file stored locally but my music files on my NAS.  Here are my questions:
    1.  I want to install iTunes on my wifes computer, set up iTunes match for her, set up shaing.  She will have a "shell" setup where notjing is stored as she is sharing with me and accessing the cloud.  Do I need to set up that computer under my user id even though she has her own?  I figure thats the only way to get her to iTunes match that I have?
    2.  How do I do this all?  Meaning, I will have a local library file for her but I need to point her laptop to the NAS with the files on them.  If I change her iTunes media file to that location on the NAS and check keep organized, will it screw up the files I have there?  I noticed when I did that on my PC it moved some fles around and I had to reassociate lost files to songs.  Took hurs.  Would iTunes have done that automatically for me somehow?  Should I not check the keep organized for her as she will not be adding music anyhow?  What is the harm either way?
    3.  How do I see my pictures on my ATV unit?  I thought I used to be able to but don't see an "app" on the ATV to do so, just photo stream which I do not want to do.  I thought I used to be able to access the pictures stored on my NAS?  Am I dreaming this or did it go away?  My NAS is an iTunes server and I swear I used to be able to access them from my ATV?    All I see on my ATV under my library is music, podcasts and movies.
    4.  I have my NAS sharing (home sharing) and I can see it on my laptop with iTuenes installed.  When I click on it I see only music, no movies or anything else, why is that and is it something to do with home sharing?  But, like I said I can see thse movies on ATV under my library.  I can also see my playlists on the shared on my laptop but nothing is in them.  I think that may be becuase they were set up under another library and now that I hve a new library file, they don't carry over?  I don't see any of said playlists in the sttandard iTunes interface under playlists, just under the shared however like I said, no files in them.  Also, the share comes and goes as in sometimes I see it sometimes I don't however I am always able to access the NAS from iTunes.  Strange, may be network issues?
    5.  Along those same lines, sometimes the home share just up and dissapears from ATV.  Maybe a network issue?
    6.  Lastly, I just did my first backup/sync to my new laptop with the frsh install of iTunes on it.  It gave me some sort of message that I can only sync to one computer and do I want to overwrite or whatever?  I said no and it did nothing.  After that, I did a back-up however it seemed to go fast and I also did a sunc.  The sync was three steps, used to be like six and I did not notice any of my new apps being copied to it.  Something is wrong here but not sure what to do, ideas?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

#4 - make sure you are sharing out all the items in your itunes library (music, movies, etc)
you should be able to do that under preferences
you may also want to check if it is pointing to the correct library
#1 - home sharing should work on the LAN w/out the need for signing in; the shared libraries should appear under "shared" in the left sidebar of itunes
think this may resolve the issues you have on #2 as well
#2 - itunes doesnt seem like it's built for that, but if you have any experience, i'd like to hear it.  this seems why home sharing is the usually the best route to go and just have one instance of itunes managing the library
but as long as the NAS or any media drives are shared out, connecting to it should not be a problem.  it's the writing to the itunes library that's the issue.  i haven't used Match so can't help there.
depending on your OS, you can either ctrl-click or option-click on the itunes icon,
which will also give you the option of selecting a library location upon launching itunes
you can navigate to the location of the library file and point it to that.
technically, you could do that but i believe the actual library has to be stored locally
as long as you still have all the media, then you can just rebuild the library
but for locally shared items, as in, all inside the home, i would leave icloud out of the equation
just use itunes sharing and it should be fine
