Ele-10... Still searching for photos...

Thanks 99jon!     I backed up my A-E10 program and files to an EXTERNAL HD before re-installing my xp-os. No, I did not have the "internal BACK-UP" system on.. Now that I have (re)installed my A-E10 back on my HD, I'm praying that there's a way to bring back the adobe photo files I believe are stored on the external drive, hidden in the A-E10 program files, I originally backed up to this ext hd...
...After trying the "catalog" search and "convert" action, I have found nothing. Is there an ".EXT" or file name where the photos in A-E10 are saved to, that I can use to search the extenal hd?

  • Unable to search for photos in Spotlight.

Some weeks ago, I inadvertently dragged my 'Pictures' folder into the desktop, and managed to replace it, but after that, (and after temporarily renaming it 'Images') I can no longer search for photos in Spotlight.
Spotlight Preferences now recognises 'Images' and I'm unable to change it back to 'Pictures'.
Any advice or solution would be greatly appreciated.

Spotlight Preferences now recognises 'Images' and I'm unable to change it back to 'Pictures'.
As I said before there is no "photo" file type, just a bunch of other kinds (tiff, jpeg, GIF, and maybe 20 other possible extensions) that are used for photos. I don't think Spotlight uses the term "Pictures", just "images". I have a "Pictures" folder but in Spotlight I just see "Images" in the search results, and "Images" is what is uses in the preferences.
this doesn't explain why I'm unable to search for photo files using Spotlight.
Make sure that the area containing your photos is not excluded from search by the privacy feature in Spotlight's preferences.
Spotlight searches for text information. For example, I have lots of photos, but spotlight only find a single one since I don't use the word "photo" in any of my file names or folder names. The one file it finds has "Created by Adobe Photoshop" in the metadata - Spotlight is keying in on the word "photo". If I type in the word "Picture" it finds the Pictures folder, but doesn't list the contents since none of those have the word "Picture" in their names or text within the file.
What exact search term are you entering into Spotlight? Are you sure that a file exists with that term in its name, or perhaps in text included within the file?

  • Search for photo's NOT in Album

Is there a way to search for photo's not in an album?

Huh?  Not sure at all what you are saying.
Camera Roll photos are photos that were taken with/saved from the iphone itself.  Those are not part of the sync process at all.  You import those as you would with any digital camera.
Photos/albums that you sync ( via itunes) from your computer to your will appear under photo library and the individual albums that you selected under "photos" in itunes

  • Search for photos with multiple keywords

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to search for photos that have multiple keywords.   When selecting multiple keywords in a Bridge search the default behavior is to find photos that have any of the keywords rather than all of the keyword.  In other words I want to do an AND keyboard rather than an OR search.

You should be able to do so in the find menu of Bridge (Edit/Find or cmd+F)
With the plus sign you can add an extra (and) keyword to it.
A shortcut may be to first find one keyword and then use the filter panel
keyword section and select the other wished keywords by putting a checkmark
in front, only the selected files will show in the content window.

  • Searching for photos WITHOUT a certain term?

Is there a way to search for photos that do NOT have a certain term? Basically I have a whole bunch of events, albums, etc. And then out of those, I have a subset of photos that I've posted to flickr, and those are in an album called Flickr. I did a batch change so all the descriptions say flickr. Now my computer is pretty full and I want to clear off some space (I have my whole photo library on an external HD so I'm not really deleting stuff, just deleting it off my laptop). I want to delete whole events but I'd like to keep the photos that are in the flickr album, since they're really my best photos. Can anyone think of an easy way to delete all photos in a bunch of events EXCEPT the ones that are marked as flickr photos?

I just wanted to report back, in case anyone else is interested, that Duplicate Annihilator worked perfectly. I told it to put "duplicate" in the description field of the duplicates, and "keep" in the corresponding original copy of the duplicate. It didn't tell me it was going to do this, but it ended up giving each one a number, so you could compare the two versions and make sure they were duplicates, or consider which one you really wanted to keep. Since I have over 17000 photos, I bought the full version and let it run for an hour or so, and it found a bunch of duplicates.

Or is there anyway to turn on the search feature to include photos?

Yes, unfortunately that is true… and there is no way to turn it on.

    Hello Debbie,
I would be concerned as well if my iPad was not recognized by iTunes.  Thank you for providing all the information with the steps you took in regards to this issue.  I found an article with a few more steps you can take (you can skip the steps you have already taken):

  • Saved search for Photo Stream not working in Mavericks

I have a saved search for JPGs in my photo stream so I can easily access them via Finder instead of iPhoto. In Mavericks my saved search no longer sees my latest photo stream iPhone pics. Anyone else notice this? I can see them in iPhoto though. I've tried re-doing the search, etc, but it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Oh man, I've been beating my head on the desk trying to fix this. The only clue I have is that photos taken from iOS 7 (vs iOS 6) devices after about a week ago (wasn't there an OS X update recently?) don't show up in finder the same. When you dig through the "sub" folder to find the long-named folders with the photostream files in them, hit command+i and check out the "More Info:" section. The recent ones don't have anything in them (see http://d.pr/i/WKzR). Furthermore if you drill down to one of those folders containing such an image (see: http://d.pr/i/nIUP) and try to create a saved search from there it won't show up (see: http://d.pr/i/FOri).
I even tried to create an automator to pull those images out, but when you're searching for a file in any of those new folders finder doesn't see anything.
Not an answer for ya, just more confusion. Let me know if you get any bright ideas.

  • Searching for photos by lens

how do I search for all photos taken with a certain lens?  thanks joanlvh

In the Grid view, click on Metadata in the Library Filter bar above the image grid. You should see four columns that you can select to search on. By default, one of them should be "Lens." Grab the tiny little slider just to the right of the list, and scroll until you find what you want.
If none of the colums is for "Lens", click the title of any of the four columns (e.g., Camera, Date, Label). You'll get a pop-up with a list of all the metadata available. Select "Lens" and then follow the instructions above.

  • Search for photo fails if photo is in a stack!

Has anyone else found that with LR5.6, when you search for a photo, the search will fail if that photo is buried in a stack?  I have only been searching by keyword, so I don't know how LR reacts to a search by exposure data or similar.
Anyone know if this is a bug, or is this some how a bit of brilliant functionality I don't understand?!

To search top-of-stack only: collapse stacks.
To search underlings too: expand stacks.

  • Searching for photos without tags?

In  LR4 I have lots of images without tags. How can I search for all of my imported images that do not have tags?
    Thanks.

I have never made a smart collection. I just mae one with the settings, to match all of the following rules, keywords, and are empty, and I saved it. It now shows up on my Collections panel, and it shows the number 1007 next to it, so I'm assuming that means there are 1007 images without keywords? However, the main window displays "No photos match the filter" What is going on?
    Thanks.

  • Search for photos with a certain keyword ...

    Hi,
I want to use the Filter-Pane to find all photos with a certain keyword on my disk - and not only in a specifiy folder.
    Is this possible with Bridge?
Or do I always have to go into a specific subfolder and look there for the keywords? If yes, the filter doesn't help - if I am in the folder, I don't need the keywords anymore.
    Thanks

use Edit->Find to search for keywords from different folders

I was having Bing as my browser. I have downloaded Mozilla Firefox as my web browser. But still Bing is my default web for searching the web. I want to uninstall it. How can I do it ?

You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and do a search for <i>bing</i> via the Filter at the top of the about:config page.<br />
You can reset all <i>bing</i> related prefs that appear bold (user set) via the right-click context menu to their default values.

  • Still searching for GPS

HTC Droid Eris Navigator - When I first got this phone almost two years ago, the navigation worked great.  This past summer it quit working and always said "searching for GPS".  The list of directions part of the program worked okay, and it knew where I was because the eta/miles left kept changing, but the voice assistance did not work.  I called VW and they helped me reset the phone to original factory settings.  This temporarily fixed the nav program as it worked great for about one week,  but then the same problem re-occurred.  I did NOT install any apps after the reset, so you cannot blame the problem on an app.  VW thought it might be a hardware failure, in case the reset didn't work.  Since it worked fine for a while, it seems more like a software problem.  I've been in the same car for the entire two years, so a different vehicle cannot explain it.  I found using this forum frustrating, and the silly "solved" posting about moving away from a building was not too helpful.  I suspect there are engineers at Verizon or HTC that know what is wrong, but their knowledge is not reaching this forum.

    Ann 154,
thanks for your help.  I just ran GPS Test, the free version, and it was really cool.  Used 6 out of 8 satellites and I am INSIDE my house.  I then went to Nav and it worked fine.  I turned off the "Use wireless networks" in Settings/Location and only have Use GPS satellites checked.  I also turned off some things in Settings/Applications/Running Services.
I always turn off Navigation by doing "Menu/Exit Navigation" when not using it, to save the battery.
Regarding other questions by other replys, I do not have insurance on the phone because after my son's insured phone was stolen at the Boat House at Central Park, I learned there was a $50 deductible and and was able to replace his old LG phone for about that amount, so the insurance was worthless in this case.
thanks to all who responded, i appreciate your help!!

  • Possible to search for photos via time?

I do not see this option; date, yes, but not time. I'd like to search, say for all pics shot at 12:37. Putting that in the search box gets no results, though there are pictures with that time. (I do know I can change the View choice, from Alpha by title to view by date.)
Why would I want this? We go on wildflower walks and shoot hundreds of photos, perhaps dozens of species. Sometimes it's hard to know if Picture A & B, depicting very similar plants & flowers, actually show the same species. (We're still beginners at this, and some families like the penstemons and paintbrushes have lots of very similar species). So I use time as a helper. If they were shot within a couple of minutes, probably they are of the same plant.
My new technique is to shoot a "spacer photo" when I switch plants, which helps to separate "bouts" of photography. But previous outings don't have these.
    Thanks!

Right, now I see how it works for you.
Just temporarily switching the event sort to Sort By Date while you do all your initial titles is probably the simplest improvement to make in your workflow, and sounds like it would eliminate some hassle.
But I'll tell you how I would do it, just because workflows interest me and you say you are thinking about it.
Each wildflower walk is an Event. Keep your events sorted by Date/Time as you process and sort photos. Retitle as desired.
Create a smart album to actually show off and browse your wildflowers--perhaps based on Keyword is Wildflower. Easy enough to apply the Wildflower keyword to an entire event each time you download photos and un-apply it from the occasional people shots as you process. The Wildflowers smart album can be sorted by title so that you can group all the same flowers from multiple places, rate the best shots of that flower, etc.
Of course, that approach separates most browsing and rating from the initial sorting process--this helps me because I tend to bog down on the rating part, but might feel weird to others.
(I also name the Event with a precise location--eg, Crater Lake Wildflower Meadow--and then use Photos>Batch Change to put that same info into the Description. Then it's easy enough in the combined smart album to say "okay, where did I take that shot?" and check the Description. However, Places might serve that need more efficiently. Sometimes I use the overall Event Description for a sort of diary entry--"third trip to this garden, after a rainy March had the best flowers")
I never use the Title field and use Description a lot, but in this case, I'd say using Title instead of Description would be really annoying because I think you'd have to use the mouse to get to the description field every single time, instead of just being able to tab and type across photos, and you'd have to keep looking down to see if you already labeled the photo or not instead of that being right in your face. Photos>Batch Change would let you change a bunch at a time, but that's probably still slower. I tend to use Description for big general info like place and would think Title is more appropriate for very photo-specific info like flower names.
Although, using Keyword instead of Title might be an idea. With the long Latin names which I presume are a hassle to type, being able to just click or apply pre-entered names with a shortcut could be good, and iPhoto will auto-fill Keywords but I don't think it auto-fills repeated Titles? Keyword Manager is a third-party utility, I don't use it myself but Terence recommends it as excellent. If you are seeing the same flowers over and over again, keywords might make life easier, and if you frequently have variations on species--eg Poppies (California), Poppies (Opium), Poppies (I've exhausted my knowledge of flowers)---then Keyword Manager handles nested keywords and I think it would automatically let you really quickly browse ALL your poppies and then each type of poppy. Might be worth checking--there should be a free trial. A keyword approach would also eliminate the possible problem where you have multiple flowers in one sort, but Sort by Title misses the flowers that aren't first (although Title-based Smart Albums would also eliminate that problem).
One of the other things to consider there is what you intend to do with the photos, though--various forms of printing/publishing to web have varying support for automatically including the Title, etc. So if you know what you'd like to do with the pictures--slideshow? photo book?--it's worth playing around to see what the export options and integration are like before you process your backlog.
    An interesting challenge! Have fun.
