ELearning Suite 2.5 or Camtasia

Hello-
Previously on my technical site I used camtasia 6.1 software.  ITs ok to do what I do, record my computerscreen as I talk over.  Later I go back and add 10 seconds of music at the beginning and end with a powerpoint slide.
Then I produce it in Mp4 and flv.  Then I create a web page with the title that matches (Joomla) then I add the html needed to call the video into the webpage.  Then upload into the correct folder via FTP.  Then about half the time it works.
It takes about 2 hours to present a 10 minute video I would say.
That being the background on my efforts, Camtasia wants to charge me 200 to upgrade to the new product.  I see that eLearning Suite is just a bit more.
I would like to make creative videos although I don't want it to be a 2nd job, it should be an intuitive process.  I also would like to hold live classes (POSSIBLY) in the future, even record classes and have those as my instructional videos. (IN THE FUTURE maybe)
Am I comparing apples to oranges?  Is there an easier way to host the elearning suite than the steps I described?  I would like to tie the videos to a membership password.  I would like to change that password each time they log in so they do give the login out to everyone also.
Thanks as I would appreciate your patience.
Good Day!

Hi Expert,
I think you may be comparing two vastly different products and their capabilities.  It is probably more accurately to compare Techsmith Camtasia to Adobe Captivate as they both have screen recording capabilities.  The Adobe eLearning Suite is a bundle of software applications or "tools" that help you do a whole lot more.  As with anything else, you have to know which tools work best for the type of work you do.  I have both and will use the appropriate tool as my work requires.  It sounds like Camtasia is probably the best thing to move forward with right now given your budget and learning curve requirements.
I've been using Camtasia for quite a while now too and I'm running 7.1 and find it's features tremendously intuitive.  Creating high-quality videos are a easy but Camtasia can only do so much and would be unfair to compare and expect more given their design intent.  As far as your budget, I would recommend Techsmith's upgrade plan which allows you free upgrades and support for the next 2/3 years for a lot less than you would have paid in one upgrade down the road.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm a big big fan of the eLearning Suite too.  I have yet to tap 1/10th of the full potential of my eLearning suite but I'm excited for every learning opportunity (yes- there is a lot to learn).  What I recommend, is you do is take a few of the Adobe TV on-demand free training sessions to really see what the eLearning Suite is all about.  Dr. Allen Partridge has a great video out there that really steps you through the rational behind the eLearning products, (Adobe Presenter, Adobe Captivate, and Adobe eLearning Suite) and it should help you get a clearer prospective on what's available to you.
I hope this helps.

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS4 error in elearning suite trial version

Hi there, I have a trial version of elearning suite 2.5 and I have the error "Thank you for using Adobe Media Encoder CS4. The Adobe product that installed Media Encoder has not activated. Please launch and activate that Adobe product before continuing to use Media Encoder". My searching points me to a full reinstall, but is there an easier fix? Currently running Mac OS 10.5.8. Thanks.

    Any update on this?

  • Error Message When Installing eLearning Suite on New PC

Hi. I have been using the eLearning Suite 2 since its launch last year. I recently treated myself to a new PC (64 bit, Windows 7) and have downloaded the software again from the Adobe site so that I could reinstall it.
The download (via the Akami download) seems to go fine until I try to extract the files. I then get the following error message: A problem occurred while extracting some files. Check available space on your computer and the write privileges on the destination folder.
The priviledges are all fine, as I have installed a lot of software into exactly the same folder already. And there's about 600GB of space left on the drive. I also also came across the files that I used before to install the suite on my old PC, and got exactly the same message.
Am at a loss to understand what is wrong. Any ideas?

It turns out that the problem was I downloaded the files via Google Chrome. I tried both the Akaimi and the alternate files, and neither worked.
When I downloaded the alternate files via Firefox, they worked first time. No further tinkering required.
Thank you for your help, Mylenium. Have a lovely weekend.

  • Unable to install Adobe elearning suite 1.0 in windows 7 pro environment

I have spent two days trying to re-install my elearning suite 1.0 on a new computer.  I have called Adobe support three times.  The first time I got cut off after 25 minutes on line.  The second time I got cut off after 40 minutes on line.  On the third try, after over an HOUR on hold, I made it to a person and I told her my problem.  She was quiet for a second or two and then I heard the dial tone.  If anyone from Adobe support is lurking on this forum, shame on you.
I purchased the very expensive Adobe ELearning Suite 1.0 less than a year ago and installed in on my Windows XP Thinkpad machine.  It was a painful install.  I use Adobe Presenter 7 and Adobe Acrobat Pro.  Thats it.  Nothing else.
Unfortunately, my Thinkpad died and I have purchasaed a new Thinkpad -- a W510 Windows 7 Pro and 4 g ram.  Should not be an issue.
It will not even get past the starting gate.  I get an auto lang error and then conversion data file.
When I the error I see a similar error for a different product, however the error is for a language mismatch between the operationg system and adobe.  This is not my problem.  I have verified that both products are same language -- jeeze, English.
At this point the only option I can see if to purchase the very expensive Adobe elearning suite 2 -- but guess what?  It too comes with Adobe Presenter 7.  Why should I have to pay another 1000 for the same thing I already own.
Has anyone else had this issue who might be able to provide advice?  At this point I am so frustrated and irritated by Adobe I could scream.
I would also be very receptive of recommendations for a replacement for Presenter --
    Very kind regards,

  • Adobe eLearning suite 6.1 extended trial for Partners - Serial Number not working

    Greetings from Greece,
We are new Adobe Certified Resellers. I was informed that via the Adobe Partner Connection portal I can install an NFR extended trial copy of Adobe eLearning suite 6.1 for demo and training purposes. So I downloaded this software (version 6.1 WIN) from the website above but the serial number provided on the same page is not working with the message "The serial number you entered is invalid. Please try again. If the problem persists contact support".I am sure that I am typing the correct one (as I find it on the web page), tried several times, also tried copy-paste to be sure.
Please advise. Thank you in advance.

    Hi Maria,
I would request to email your concern and details at : [email protected] and they will be able to help you with this.

  • Crashing Photoshop CS5, other programs in Adobe Elearning Suite working fine

    Hi,
I really need some help. I have tried troubleshooting, updating, reinstalling all to no avail.
After a long time of having no problems, I cannot get Photoshop CS5 to work, neither the 32 or 64 versions. I get the same error everytime: right after the splash screen and after the software opens, I get a non descriptive error and windows shuts the software down. The error is: "An unexpected and unrecoverable probelm has occured. Photoshop will now exit."  The event viewer indicates it is the MSVCR90.dll but I have read that is just generic. The event viewer says this: "
Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version: 12.0.4.0, time stamp: 0x4d9d8f8e
Faulting module name: MSVCR90.dll, version: 9.0.30729.6161, time stamp: 0x4dace4e7"
I am on a windows 7 machine, totally current in all updates.
I have updated the adobe products as well. They all open fine (in the elearning suite: Captivate, Flash, Bridge, etc. Also I have Illustrator and Acrobat 9.0 which also open fine.).
Additionally I updated my Geoforce GTX 550 ti video card driver and the canon printer drivers.
I uninstalled a third party plug in (the only one I know of that I have installed) called "perfect resize" then reinstalled it, then updated it.
I uninstalled the elearning suite and reinstalled it, followed by updating the software again
I have uninstalled a 3D mouse I have and unplugged it (3dconnexion) but it was working fine for a long time and not used in photoshop.
I tried a few things listed on the Adobe forum to no avail (one person suggested disabling the scriptingsupport.8li, another suggested right clicking on the exe to open as administrator, another suggested trying to boot up in safe mode)
I have macfee on this machine and have scanned it for viruses, nothing was found
    None of this has worked.
Anyone else have a solution out there? Many thanks in advance.
PS I tried to "chat" with an adobe rep who eventually said that I couldn't get help from them since there are newer photoshops out now, the response was "I am sorry for your loss."

Also I seem to be having troubles with the updating software stalling out.
Any help on CS5 crashing and the solution would be greatly appeciated!

  • What's new in eLearning Suite 6.1

We bought eLS in late August 2012. At that time, Acrobat XI was not available. The Adobe eLearning Suite includes Acrobat. One would expect the latest version of the component applications to be included in the suite. Adobe seems to have released eLS 6 knowing Acrobat XI was not quite ready. That's fine. It does seem a little mercenary (in a wholly non-military way). I understand it is a business decision but it still seems a bit devious even if it was truly not intential. I can almost imagine two product managers discussing the matter and trying to make a reasonable decision. In our case, I would have preferred to have the product managers honor the recent purchases of eLS 6 which is packaged with Acrobat Pro and included the latest version of Acrobat.
I'll be interested to see if there is any discussion about this matter in our forums.
    Michael
P.S. This happened with eLS v2.5 last year when Acrobat X Pro came out shortly thereafter. Apparently they missed a significant revenue stream then as we got the update to Acrobat. I guess they didn't want to make the same decision in this pair of releases. Such is the plight of a product manger (or two) who have their lives evaluated on a 90-day cycle more than on a customer relationship foundation. After all, 10's of thousands of us are waiting in line to get the latest and apparently willing to pay the fees associated. I suppose software is an operating expense and not an acquistion (in the capital goods sense). It doesn't get depreciated since it's usefulness is not finite or specifically measurable. Sometimes the business world is ingenious, sometimes it is base and disengenuous.

there were probably some bugs fixed in some of the suite 6.1 programs.  it's a free update.

  • Adobe eLearning Suite 2 Workflows link in Windows START Menu fails

I just recently purchased the Adobe eLearning Suite 2 and I get an error message when I click on the following link:
Start - All Programs - Adobe eLearning Suite 2 - Adobe eLearning Suite 2 Workflows
Error message is within an Adobe Air dialog box - This installation of this application is damaged.  Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance.
    The link points to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe eLearning Suite 2 Workflows\en_US\Main.exe"
My first question is: What happens when you click on this link?  Is there any utility behind it that will help me in my workflows?  Am I wasting my time to try and find out what this link does?
I reached out to technical support and after several calls and being tossed around to several departments, they ultimately said my version of Windows was not supported by eLearning Suite 2.  One guy (Application Specific queue) said he tried it on his machine and got the same error but he couldn't help me because it was an installation issue and that I would have to open a sevice contract ($40.00) to get help with this problem and dumped me back to the installation folks who told me my machine was not supported.  What the??
I found the support page for the suite and it just says "Windows 7."   I opened up a CHAT dialog box on the same page and that person "Scott" told me that all versions of Windows 7 are supported for the suite.
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64bit on my PC.  The eLearing Suite 2 website says the system requirements support "Windows 7."  My assumption is that the suite is supported on my machine.
My next question now is: Is my Windows 7 version supported (Yes or No)?  If so, then why doesn't the above mention link work?
If anyone has any insight, I'd appreciate your help.

I have tried the above solution to no avail. It seems the root cause of the problem is incompatibility with the new version of AIR
Here's a link to another thread with the same problem
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/677258
Surely a multimillion dollar company like Adobe which is trying to be very customer orientated can afford to get the original creator of Workflows to provide an updated version of the program which will work with the latest version of AIR

  • How to install eLearning Suite silently without the license agreement prompt

I was able to install the eLearning Suite 1.0 by following the guideline "How to install Captivate Silently".  I used the "setup --mode=silent --deploymentFile=install.xml" method, and that worked except one thing.  Adobe Air prompted for a License Agreement, and I also got a demo screen pop up.  How do I supress these two pop ups when using the silent mode setup?  I know how to do this for Captivate, but folder structures are different in eLearning Suite.
    Thanks.

    Bob,
Let me know if this summary is correct:
    1. If possible allways let Vista install apps in default directories.
    2. Adobe apps and their newer versions are by default installed in new directories (except for Acrobat). For example CS4 MC would be installed as a completely seperate entity from CS 3 MC. Another example, eLearning Suite 4 would be installed as a completely seperate entity from CS 3 MC. Therefore all settings in each newly installed application need to be set up. Does each application then have its own unique data directory structure?
    3. Since each Suite is a separate entity each license is seperate. This avoids cross license issues between different Suites.
    4. If a user allways wants the same (latest) version of an application to load then one must manually uninstall old versions in the other Suites.
For example, as a default install eLearning Suite 4 would be a completely seperate entity from CS 3 MC. The user would then delete the following older CS3 applications (as the newer versions are in eLearning Suite 4):
    Photoshop CS3 Extended
    Flash CS3 Professional
    Dreamweaver CS3
    Soundbooth CS3
Except for Acrobat as the default install would have updated the CS3 version.

  • Error installing eLearning suite on Win7 Pro 32bit

I couldn't find this specific problem previously discussed.
I just received a Dell tablet with Win 7 Pro 32 bit. • Captivate  to soundbooth workflow with eLearning Suite CS4

I have looked in the Captivate manual, forums, and Soundbooth tutorials and cannot
find exactly how to export my audio from captivate to soundbooth and back.  I only find snippets that I should be able to do it.  I want to standardize the narration levels in my project from slide to slide.  Then, I would like to mass import back into Captivate without having to each each slide individually which would take forever.
Thanks in advance for any help on this or even a link where I can read the info.

    Hello There,
Which version of ELS are you using? If it is ELS 2.0, then you can roundtrip between Captivate 5 and Soundbooth CS5. We did not have Roundtripping with Soundbooth feature with ELS 1.0.
When you have installed eLearning Suite 2.0, this option is available when we edit the Project audio. Go to Audio Menu>Edit>Project. In the Edit Project Audio dialog, you will see "Edit with Adobe Soundbooth..." Button. Once you click that button, soundbooth opens and you can do the editing.
    Thanks,
    Vish

  • ELearning Suite is falsely telling me maximum licenses reached, disabling software.

I could not get chat to work...nice job, Adobe. So: My eLearning Suite is telling me I have reached the maximum activated licenses, but one of the licenses is for an old computer that has been wiped of hardware. How do I get my software activated?

It sounds like the software is reporting correctly based on what you just described.  Removing software does not change the activation count.  You must use the deactivation function provided in the software or have Adobe support perform a reset.  At this stage the latter is what you need to do.  YOu will need to contact Adobe support thru chat and have them perform the reset.  You can try to get phone support as well, though they normally only support Cloud products lately - still you might get lucky.

  • ELearning Suite and Creative Cloud?

Hello, I am user of eLearning Suite 6.
I have one question - will be Adobe Captivate and Adobe Presenter a parts of Creative Cloud? The reason of my question is - because all products from Creative Suites Families was completely included to Creative Cloud. But central apps from Elearning Suite - Captivate and Presenter - no! Why?
Second question - for new CC versions will be available also some extensions for elearning development (Flash learning Interaction, CourseBuilder, SCORM packager and other special parts od eLearning Suite)?
    Thanks for responding
    Yarik

And just to update as NOW (May 7, 2013)... not only does Captivate & eLearning NOT part of Creative Cloud, but if you want to update your Capitvate 6.1, you can only do so IF you have a Captivate subscription or ASA account.
Whoa be to you if you actually BOUGHT eLearning Suite 6 in the past year or so.

  • Elearning Suite -- Application Manager -- Presenter missing

I am using the application manager tool provided by Adobe to create an Enterprise deployment for eLearning 2.0.  During the wizard, it asks you which applications you want to include in your installation and I include everything (this includes presenter).
This leaves us with 2 source folders:  The payloads folder and the exceptions folder.
The payloads folder contains all of the applications that will be handled in the MSI that is built by the application manager, the exceptions folder contains all of the "other" installations that you can handle with cmd line.
Everything works great, except, Presenter does not install.  It is completely missing.  There is nothing in the logfile that shows any error or failure (all return code 1, which in Adobe lingidy means AOK).  The only descrepency that I have been able to observe so far is that the source files = 5gb in size when I extract the source from the cd.  After I point the application manager to the source and run the wizard, it extracts 3.5gb in source.  I understand there maybe a few extraoneous items in source that may account for additional languages and whatnot, but cutting out 1.5gb seems to be an aweful lot.
Should I be using application manager with the eLearning suite?
Does eLearning 2.0 fall under the CS5 umbrella of suites?
Can anyone provide me with things I could be looking at to help troubleshoot this issue, or provide a solution?
    Thank you for your time!
I will try to answer some questions that may arise:
-- Presenter does not appear in the exeptions folder, add/remove programs, in c:\Program Files
-- I attempted to run the application manager with only Presenter selected, it still does not install
-- I attempted to run application manager with everything but Presenter selected, it still does not show in the exeptions folder
-- I opened the MSI that was built by application manager to see if presenter existed in the table, it does not, nor does any other application that would get installed in the suite

    Hello,
Which version of MS Office do you use? If it is 2010, Presenter is not compatible with that version. And Presenter is not a standalone app, it installs as a plugin on Powerpoint. Did you check PPT?
