Having trouble when I launch iTunes (version 11.0.2) on my Dell Laptop running Windows 7 Professional (service pack 1).  I get an error message indicating software required to communicate with iPod and mobile phones was not installed correctly.  Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?  I normally respond with OK and it immediately tells me "could not be repaired.  Please reinstall iTunes..."  I have done this a number of times to no avail.

I also notice Quicktime is not getting installed at all.
That one is normal nowadays (ever since the iTunes versions 10.5.x).
The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?
Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Error message: "the software required for communicating with Ipods and mobile phones was not installed correctly....

2 error messages when opening itunes: "The software required for communicating with Ipods and mobile phones was not installed correctly.  Do you want Itunes to repair this for you?"  When clicking yes another message indicates not able to remove services.  Another message is: "Service (ipod service) could not be installed.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system sources."  I've uninstalled all Apple services (itunes, quicktime, apple software update, apple mobiles devices support, bonjour and apple application support and reinstalled itunes/quicktime - no change in error messages.  I cannot burn CDs using Itunes.  This all seemed to happen when I updated itunes to version 10.  I have a Windows 7 64-bit operating system on a Dell Inspiron Zino HD; the Itunes software is also 64 bit.

To restore the classic menu bar, you can do any of these:
orange Firefox button > Options > Menu Bar
tap the Alt key > View > Toolbars > Menu Bar
right-click a blank area of the tab bar or navigation bar > Menu Bar

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Electric shock fom iPod touch....

    Hi
Okay so I plugged my iPod into the wall to charge whilst doing so I went on to the Internet to check something out. Then I received a massive electric shock when I locked my iPod. Is there anything I can do to prevent this as it has happened lots before???
    Many thanks,
    Anna.

Could be a problem with the charger or iPod.  Does it happen with another wall charger
    With your computer?
If it is the iiPod, then I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Electrical Shocks With 220v Supply

For both a Portege Z930 and Portege Z835 I get (mild, but noticeable) electrical shocks from contact with case when the AC power adapter is plugged into (many, but not all) 220V supplies. (This happens overseas, of course.) This does not happen in the US with 120V supply. These are two different models with two different power supplies, so I infer that this is a design defect in the power supply.
From the fact that it doesn't happen all the time, I'm guessing that it has something to do with an assumption of grounding that went into the power supply design, that sometimes holds and sometimes doesn't, depending on national electrical codes or at least frequency of compliance with the code.
Does Toshiba have any comment on this?
The Z930 is still under warranty, so if this defect has been fixed, I would like to get my power supplies (I purchased two originally) replaced. (We didn't buy an extended warraty for the Z835, so I suppose that would cost to fix.)
    Thanks in advance.
    Dave

Workaround is an adapter with 3-prong plug. See this thread.

  • Electric shocks With my MBP

What is this? Everytime i plug the magsafe power cord on the macbook pro it gives me electric shocks on my rists, it seems to be on the edge of the macbook pro and it really annoys me and lloks unsafe, i bought my macbook pro in Portugal and i am currently residing in Wales, the power cable and connector is different cause the mains are different in Portugal we use a two-pin and here they use a 3-pin, i am using an adaptor to connect it to the mains and that adaptor already has an earth pin, which i read in a previous post should protect me against those electric shocks... what could it be then?
    Hope to hear from you!

It's a "ground" problem and it hurts. Unless there's a problem with the socket (I don't know the system in Wales), the easiest thing to do is connect a wire to your Laptop (any old cable will do). You can achieve a decent connection by attaching the blank end of the cable to the screw of your VGA connector and tightening that (metal must touch metal). Outside of the house you have to stick a metal rod (like construction steel or such) into the ground about at least 50 cm deep. Then connect the wire from the computer to that firmly. Obviously this is not what we dream of - but that's how we do it in the Philippines - where they have no ground in the electric system either!

  • Any ideas on problem with ipod and alpine cde-9881 car stereo

I have an ipod 60gb v 1.2.1 and a new Alpine car stereo with Ipod connecting cable. When connected, the stereo message reads IPod searching. It never assumes control of ipod,or quits searching. I have reset and restored my ipod, had the apple geek at genius bar check it out. My ipod does not play on the alpine ipod ready stereo in my husband's car, nor the stereos in Car Toys. My husband's 30 gb ipod plays on the stereo in his car AND my car. Help! Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? Alpine is telling me it could be a software problem with my ipod, and to revert to an earlier version of itunes. But my husband's ipod works in my car. So I did a restore using his computer and itunes....no luck. am interested in any ideas on a possible solution!!
    Thanks in advance
    md

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive and iTunes may exhibit strange behavior in relation to the iPod.

  • Best USB 2.0 Hub to use with iPods and Mac Mini 2009?

I am using my Mac Mini as my iTunes station, and I have five iPods
that are connected to my master iTunes Station.
Recently I needed to add a USB drive to add more space to the mini.
Along with a wireless keyboard ( that uses a USB transmuting dongle)
I am short two USB ports. Can anyone recommend a good USB hub
that is compatible with iPod Touch, iPod Mini, IPod Shuffle, iPod Classic 30GB,
and iPod Classic 160GB for iTunes synching and charging?

Anyone have any luck with this hub:

looks like the White Belkin one, but is on Amazon for about half the price, and
other than being brown, I don't see a difference?

  • Help with ipod and computer shut downs...please.

I've posted this in two other forums to no avail -- lots of views, but no help.
My family now has 3 ipods (we only had 1 before) and yesterday I was trying to get them all set up - updates on the actual ipod, and I've updated itunes to 7.5. There are two issues here:
    1) I am not able to register ANY of the ipods. I get all the way through the process to the very end and then it gives me an error message (after clicking the "No thanks" at the bottom of the page that asks if you want to download the videos) saying that the service couldn't be found? Or something like that. Ok, fine...I can handle not being able to register them for the time being.
    2) I could keep itunes on all day long, as long as the Ipod is NOT CONNECTED. As soon as I connect the ipod (any of the 3 new ones - they all do the same thing) - ok, maybe not as soon as, but shortly thereafter - my entire computer shuts down. No error message, no blue screen of death, no warning - it just shuts down. It might be after I move a song from the "purchased" folder to the actual ipod. Or, as happened yesterday, it's right smack in the middle of a download (happened with both videos AND songs) and then of course, I have to try and purchase it again. I'm not even sure if it took my money already, but if it did, I'm SOL because I paid, but don't have the video/song since it never finished downloading.
I've done everything that's been recommended to me - I disabled all my start up programs (except the windows ones) and that didn't resolve anything.
    My system is as follows:
Windows XP Home Edition (all updated except for microsoft office 2003)
    Service Pack 2
    AMD Athalon 64 3000+
    1.81 GHz
    2GB RAM
Not sure what else you need to know, to try and help me resolve this. Thanks for your time.

  • Has anyone experienced, if so found a solution to having electrical shock, tingling, pain and burning in fingers hand and wrist from using the apple mac computers??

Has anyone experienced electrical schock, tingling, burning and pain in the fingers, hand and wrist while using the apple mac desktop and the apple pro notebook??  If, so have you found a solution??  Never experienced this with any other computers and I have talked with my Doctor as well as a specialist and have had an EMG test for capatunel and nerve damage both test were negative

I have experienced some mild tingling if I touch the aluminum case on my iMac at the same time that I touch the metal cases on my external hard drives.  They are all connected to the same surge suppressor and are on the same circuit, which is definitely properly grounded.  I can't explain it, and I just make sure not to touch them at the same time.
I have never had any sensation touching just one of the devices alone.  Is that what you are experiencing?
