"Electrical leakage feeling" on ENVY 14-2136NR

Hi all,
I just bought a hp  ENVY 14-2136NR and I noticed something rather annoying: whenever the laptop is plugged into the wall outlet and I touch the case (back of the screen), or any metal part of it (around the mousepad), I have this buzzing/vibrating sensation going through my hand.
It is not due to the vibration of internal component but clearly from the electricity since it stops when I unplug it and also only happens when touching the metal parts. It is strong enough for my girlfriend to feel it while touching my skin while I have my hand on the laptop.
One interesting thing I noticed is that this stops if I use a grounded outlet. The problem is that I only have 1 such outlet in my house.
I know it's an electricity matters but maybe someone knows or maybe someone experienced something similar.
Does this present a health hazard?
Can it damage the computer overtime?
I'm thinking to return the laptop now, it's a shame because I really like it. However, I have the impression that this is not limited to this laptop only, maybe even any laptop with metallic surface would have the same problem?
Thank you!

  • Feeling Electrical Current... Why do I feel an electrical buzz when I touch someone while my laptop is on my lap.  It is a weird electrical stickiness feeling, when you slide your hand on someone's arm it skips like you were touching rubber. Help!

I get an electrical buzz feeling when I touch someone else or someone else touches me, while my laptop is on my lap.
It is a weird electrical stickiness feeling... when you slide your hand on someone's arm it skips as if you were touching rubber.
    Anyone have any remedies?
My girlfriend won't touch me anymore when I am on my computer and thinks she isn't getting pregnant because I am "frying my boys" with electricity.
I called Apple Tech Support - and because my support expired 20 days ago (even though this problem has been going on for months) they said they wouldn't help me.
They suggested the laptop was never meant for a lap - lol... and I should only use it on a table.
    Help - I'm frying here!

  • Electric current/vibration- shock

Forgive me. I'm a 60 year olf granny and not tech savvy.
Have a MBP late 2010 with Apple support.
A  month ago noticed an intermitten vibration/electrical sensation across the keyboard and areas both sides of the touchpad.
It's now constant. Occurs both plugged in and on battery. Only use is a three pronged adaptor plugged directly into grounded socket since out of the box.
No power strip ever. Have two other PC's and one Mac at home and lots of other electrical items and no problems.
Have not opened it, changed batteries, nothing different, nothing going on differently at home, and occurs in any socket in house. Happens at neighbors or my kids house fifty miles away. Had no issues til the vibration/electrical. When it started to feel a jolt (has done this maybe four times in the last couple weeks) it was time to do something.
The sensation is an electrical vibration, similar to watch you might feel using an electric toothbrush, maybe not as intense. It feels almost like a magnet, and can feel the sensation from fingers to elbows. Can even feel it holding hands an inch above. It's not painful only very uncomfortable, enough that I can't work on it. The electrical jolt feels just like a current of electricity passing thru me. Havee read multiple accounts of similar incidents here; most are related to international adaptors or not using the three pronged plug. Yet there are a few posts that describe exactly the same as and say that Apple is aware of the problem, just trying to walk from it.
What I've done: Sent out to Apple repair service as I live 60 miles from nearest authorized rpr. It was returned with a new hard drive and a notation that the sensation could not be duplicated. But when I turned on it was EXACTLY the same- no change. Husband, adult kids can all feel what I feel. yesterday
I drove 60 miles for my 15min, tech visit and was told there was "nothing wrong, all hard drives do this you are too sensitive. Keep or trade in and buy new."
Incidentally while the what I feel as an electrical sensation/vibration is constant. The "jolt" has happened 4 times in 5 weeks, not something a tech would likely feel.
Called Apple and they are "reviewing" things and hopefully I'll hear back later today. I've read every post here regarding similar problems. My kids say if nothing else ask for a refurb or transfer of Apple care. Would love feedback and thanks for patience with my long post.

It is possible you are feeling the vibration caused by the cooling fans. the 13" model has one fan, the 15" model has two. They are almost always spinning at a low rate until the computer heats up and then they spin much faster.
When there are reports of problems with these fans, I have seen the Apple techs hold the keyboard up to their ear (it is a little funny -- makes them look like they are trying to use a notebook computer for a phone).
They appear to be able to detect a bad fan just by listening, but a report of electric shock would probably not suggest that they should listen for a bad fan bearing.

  • HP Elitebook 8460p screen flicker & blinks issue and upgrade help.

    Greetings,
I have a problem with my Elitebook 8460p. My old servant service me since 3 years. We have an good relation with highes and lows. Changed hdd, upgraded rams, monthly cleaning and etc.
Anyway; I have a problem with flickers and blinkings. When i push the start (On/Off) the computer, some strange black lines appear and never gone. The funny part is that the black lines, blinkings/flickers gone crazy when i touch the touchpad. But if i didnt touch the touchpad the black lines comes less.
    Things i did;
Checked electrical parts - No electrical leakage (Checked with ohmmeter)
I tried to run with on AC and on Battery - Nothing changed.
I was disabled ambient light sensor - Nothing changed.
I was disabled touchpad - Nothing changed.
Formatted, update the BIOS to latest version, w7 up to date, No unknown device, performed stress test CPU & GPU, performed reassemble & assemble Nothing changed.
    My suspicion;
The CPU   Because this computer VGA card integrated with CPU. Changing CPU, maybe fixing all problems.
I want upgrade my computer to i7 and my choice : Intel Core i7 - 2670QM.
    My reservation / questions;
Is Intel Core i7 - 2670QM CPU compatible with my QM67 Chipset? If compatible; what i need to do? (BIOS update, or different BIOS version etc.)
I have some information about this situation and my notebook.
    The Video
Hp Elitebook 8460p series using Hannstar MV6 and my motherboard is same. Non VGA. I'm worry about the my solution. If i'm wrong; i spend my money for nothing.
    I'm waiting ur answers.

  • Current leakage/electric shock while charging

I just own the Macbook Pro Retina Display for a few days and everytime I'm trying to charge it with the supplied charger, the metal casing has feel of electrical shock! I encountered this at all location regardless of power sources, from various countries  in hotel and at home.
If I use the power plug adapter that has 3 pins adapter with extension cable, it will eliminate the problem as it has ground contact on the adapter. However, the 3 pins or 2 pins adapter that direct attach to the power adapter without extension cable does not come with ground contact. I would not want to bring the extension cable everywhere.
I approached Genius Bar but was told that it is normal. I couldn't accept the answer as this "normal" condition is greatly impacting Apple product user experience! I'm ok if Apple could replace my 3 pins adapter with a grounded pin and stay with the problem with 2 pins but not asking me to accept the fact that "it is like that, we can't do anything" or a defective product.

    Hi Casper-Tech
I am also the owner of the new retina display macbook pro and just few days after the purchase, i realised that it passes me electricity shock whenever I glide my fingers on the aluminium chasis body, especially the metal next to where we plug in out power (below the screen).
This happens when I use the 3 pin plug directly to the magsafe 2 whilts this problem is gone when I use the extension cable.
I have contacted Apple Care and they also said that this EXTREMELY WEIRD phenomenon is normal with the 3 pin plug as there is no grounding on the plug while the extension cable does have it.
I also realised that there is a difference between the 3 pin plug and extension cable, the latter has 0.5 A less fuse compared to the extension cable. Maybe this has caused the leakage of the electric current.
Meanwhile, I just intend to bring the machine and the plug to Apple Service Centre to have it look at and check whether there is a damage on my macbook pro.
If you feel unsatisfied/uncomfortable with this issue, you can get yourself a 3 pin plug with higher fuse rating or you can ask for a refund. That was what the Genius Bar suggested me.
Cheers. I bet there are many people with this problem but they just don't realise it yet.

  • Non grounded HP Laptop have electrical feeling on usb ports

I am living here in the Philippines now and have brought my Hp laptop dv9000.  Whenever I turn on the laptop with the AC I get this electrical feeling in the usb ports.  When I run with the battery I feel no electricity.  Since the AC can take a 100-240V input, the outlets here in the Philippines are 240V, it shouldnt have any problems.  But the charger has a 3rd prong that is used as a ground, but the wall outlet only has 2.
To better understand by setup: 1. the electrical outlet has 2 prongs that lets out 240V, 2. I have and AVR (automatic voltage regulator) so I can lower the voltage for my, 3. UPS (uninterrupted power supply) that only takes in 110V.  I plug in my AC charger to the UPS to power my computer.
So my question is what can I do now to stop the the electricity coming out of the usb ports? Do I need to install a grounded socket?

Have you tried restarting the laptop? Many times we get simply put the machine to sleep or hibernate- a full shutdown/restart can help with usb problems.
You might also try disabling "USB Selective suspend" in your Power Options plan.

  • The side of Macbook feels like leaking electricity

I just used my macbook air for two years. Initially, I don't think it is a problem, but it is even worse now. I prefer to lie one the bed to watch movies by using my macbook, and there is a strong feeling of leaking electricity on the side of the macbook near the keyboard. Anyone has the same problem?

Definitely taken it to Apple repair shop with the charger - the charger itself may be defective - or a wire inside is not properly shielded or connected.
    - or contact Apple if no local store -- if you don't have an extended warrantee - they still may be able to advise you if there is a recall for like problem on either the mac which they still should repair - or the charger.

  • Is it normal if I can feel the electricity around the edges of my new ipad?

When I charge my ipad, I can feel the electricity at the edge of my ipad. Is it normal or should I go for technical check? The electricity is mild but still not so comfortable with it..

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • Static Electricity feeling when touching Macbook Pro 13

Ive been experiencing a weird static electricity when I touch the laptop whilst its charging and im touching something else metallic connected to a power supply. if I slide my hand along the palm rest it feels like a vibration.

    Been there.
Are you using a properly grounded outlet with all of your gear? If not, try that first.
If you are properly grounded, you may find that you have a problem at your physical location with respect to grounding/earthing/bonding and it should be checked out by a qualified electrician as it could be indicative of a dangerous situation.
In my house the problem was a poor earth-neutral bond, and once corrected by my electrician the shocks went away.

  • Static electric feeling near palm rests on MBP 13" early 2011

i just purchased a MBP 13" early 2011 less than a week ago. when i unplugged the magsafe power connector after full charged, i get this static electric feeling near the palm rest edges (both left and right wrist area). but when i plugged in the magsafe power connector (even though it full charged) I do not get this electro-feeling anymore. is it something wrong with my new MBP 13" ? Should I send in Apple Care Centre for another new set exchange?

I would take it to an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider  (AASP) for evaluation, or call your nearest Apple Contact Center. Visit the Genius Bar at the Apple Retail Store,  make a reservation.

  • Feeling electric shock while charging Mac book Pro

    Hai everyone!
i just bought a Mac bookPro 15 inch 2.53 Ghz.
i am feeling a mild tingling/ vibrating shock while charging my mac book pro. i can feel the sensation all over the aluminium unibody part- especially while using the Mac book as well as charging it at the same time. is it Earthing/ grounding problem? or is it any voltage problem? or is it any problem with my Mac Book Pro?
    Thanks and Regards

"I bought my laptop from the US, but i am using it in Spain , with the aid of a plug converter (3 pong to 2 European one)...
"1) is this problem i am experiencing due to the plug converter?"
Yes and no. Outside of the US, the AC line voltage is twice as high, and that's why people outside of the US generally experience the "shock". If you use a 3-prong plug adapter inserted in a properly-grounded AC outlet, the problem will be resolved.
"2) I am staying in student resident, and so i doubt that the MBP is not properly grounded.. That would be dangerous, no??"
If you are using a 2-prong prong adapter, your unit is not properly grounded. Using an improperly grounded computer is not dangerous.
"3) Aside from being extremely annoying sensation, is it bad for the laptop??"
    No.
"Because if not, i can always use another keyboard.."
You mean, "if it IS" a problem , you can use another keyboard. Using another keyboard is does not change the grouping scheme of the computer.
"I am not saying whose fault this is, but i only felt this shock with the mac book pro (15 inch).. i owned a power book and a 13 in mac book, and never felt a shock like this before... Could it be because of the placement of the battery on the laptop?"
No, it's because you're using a metal-cased computer, at a high AC input voltage.

  • HP ENVY 15 Notebook needs new battery

So the battery is dead on my HP Envy Notebook 15 (Product number: A9P58UAR#ABA). The battery model is the HP LR08XL. I believe the battery is dead because the power light is white and blinking, the computer can't detect the battery anymore no matter what I use to try to identify it, and the monitor and keyboard lights immediately go black if the power cord gets unplugged for even a moment. I've even tried some restart tricks that I've seen recommended on forums about HP Envy models. I just want to install a new battery. The main problem I see right now is that I don't know how to remove this kind of battery and have read it may have been "factory sealed" or something (why would they do that?). Anyway, how do I change the battery in the model above? Thanks!
