Electrical power energy auditing

I am  doing a project on power supply monitoring system with labview. The main aim of the project is monitoring and data logging the signals from non contact type hall effect current sensors. Voltage and current are the two main parameters which is to be measured. Electrical power is the another parameter need to measure. I don't know how to start the task.
Help me......
Just give me a basic idea of how to start and provide me a basic vi for the task.

Hi sharavanen,
Sorry for replying late.
I suggest you refer to COMTRADE Logging examples from EPS toolkit. This example provides a solution to log voltage and current parameters (and other "electrical power" parameters if you add such VI's mainly from PQ category in the palette).
There are things that you should notice:
1. Choose your wiring method on the block diagram.
2. If you need to log more paramters, you have to add such VIs yourself. You can refer to Power Quality examples in this regard.
3. If you choose to use other target and/or modules than what's in the example, you have to modify the target in the project and/or FPGA VI to convert the fixed point data precision (details in the example's builtin help and description).

  • Measurement of harmonics using THD block in Electrical power

    Hi to all,
I want to measure the harmonics in a waveform. I take the THD block which is present in the Electrical Power Suite, but the input to that THD block is spectra but not waveform. So please help me in converting the waveform into spectra.
    Awaiting Reply,
    Thanks in Advance.

I do not have that suite, so I am not sure of the exact requirements. LabVIEW has several VIs in the Signal Processing >> Spectral, Waveform Measurements, and Transforms palettes.  One of those may be what you need.

  • Automatic restart of LNR0208C NVR after electrical power failure?

    Dear all,
In view of the type of Power off/on button the LNR0208C has (button, no switch), does anybody know if it restarts automatically after an electrical power shutdown and reset?
The D-link DNR-326 NVR does have that function, and I think it is fundamental and one of the reasons NVRs exist and the function is not performed by PCs.
On the other hand, can it be connected through USB to an appropriate UPS?
    Best regards,
    JA

Reply from Linksys engineering below: Power Outage recovery- In case of power outage, the NVR will automatically turn back on once powered is restored. It will detect I it was a power outage vs a regular push off/on via button.

  • Ues of Electrical Power Suite for variable frequency test

My customer is doing capacitor testing. He would like to measure the phase angle whiile varying the source frequency. Can the Electrical Power Suite be used for this? If not can you make a recommendation (basically for measuring power factor)?

I do not have the Electrial Power Suite so I cannot comment on its suitability.  In addition to posting here, there is an Electrial Power Suite on the Forums, although it gets very little traffic.  Some of the NI people involved with the suite seem to monitor that Board.
Assuming that your customer has suitable instrumentation and data acquisition hardware, it should not be too difficult to measure/calculate phase angle with LabVIEW and standard DAQ drivers.
Can you be more specific about the equipment?

  • Will Non-DSA Simultaneous Cards (such as the 9220) Work with the Electrical Power Suite?

    Hello, All!
I wondered if the 9220, and other non-delta-sigma (DSA) c-series modules, will still work with the Electrical Power Suite. From the overview on the product page:
    Supported Hardware
    C Series Modules
-The suite meets standard accuracy requirements when used with the NI 9225 (high voltage) and NI 9227 (5 A current) C Series modules.
-Compatible modules include any self-timed delta-sigma module such as the NI 9229, NI 9232, NI 9234, and NI 9239. Due to the lower voltage inputs, these modules require external voltage transformers.
-The resampling algorithms of the LabVIEW Electrical Power Suite are not designed for multiplexed modules, such as the NI 9201 or NI 9205.
Note that a few modules are listed explicitly, and it sounds like any self-timed delta-sigma module (eg the 9229, 9232, 9234, 9239) will work appropriately, and that multiplexed modules (eg 9201, 9205) will not work. However, what about non-DSA simultaneous cards such as the 9220? Note also that supported hardware is not explicitly listed in the 2012 EPS Readme, so I wanted to check.
    Please let me know!

  • Electrical power measurement with compactrio

    Hi,
It's me again. I'm trying to set up a very simple 1-phase electrical power measurement system. I have found this link: http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/208111. Here it's done with a DAQ system. I would like to use the same code, but with the CompactRIO. The question is how to connect the channelinput of the voltage and that of the current, to finally get the power reading. And how can I get a sine figure on the chart?

  • PID control to maintain constant heater electrical power?

    Hi!
I am looking for a good solution for the following:
I have a heater wire (approx. 220 Ohms). I drive this wire with DC voltage. I measure the voltage drop on the wire, and the current running through it. I want to control not the temperature, but the calculated electrical power (P=U*I) in the range of 1mW to 1W.
Of course the resistivity is slightly different at different temperatures, so that is why I think I need active control.
Maybe someone could give me a good advice?
    Thanks very much!

    Hi,
Everything is set up for the hardware. I generate the DC voltage with a NI Static waveform card (DAQmx). I measure the voltage drop and the current (via voltage drop measurement on a calibrated resistor connected in serial with the heater wire) with a Keithley DVM via GPIB card. The SetPoint is the required electrical power, the ProcessVariable is the calculated power from the measured U and I. The output is the driving voltage between 0-3 DC Volts, what I amplify with a factor 5.8 with an amplifier connected to the heater wire.
I try to use the PID.vi from the PID toolkit (I already use PI(D) controls from LabView for other heater wires, where I have to control temperature, and they work very efficiently and perfectly) for this purpose.
So far I try to find the proper gain values. My sampling rate is low, approx. 8 seconds. First I tried only the P control (zeroing the I and D gains of the PID.vi), to find a stable oscillation range, so I could go on with the PID Autotune vi. But no luck so far. I think it is also a problem, that this system is not linear: the P is not a linear function of U. Can you suggest how to go on from here?
    Thanks very much!

  • Tool Box and Electric Power Outage

I am using OSX.4.11 on a 1.25 GHz Power PC G4 and having problems with CS2 (Educator version).
I hired electricians to do some work Thursday. They shut off the electric, without warning...
iow, I didn't have an opportunity to turn off my computer. When I returned to my office,
the computer restarted and seemed to be OK.
I checked my email, and that was also malfunctioning. (However, there had been problems with my Comcast cable service, (email) and phone service, since Monday). Comcast and ATT were working on that. Phone/fax service was restored Thursday and Comcast seems to be OK as of Friday.
When I tried to use my Creative Suite (CS2) programs, I discovered that the tool palettes used to work on any of my documents, old or new, in Photoshop and Illustrator in Creative Suite are malfunctioning. The toolbox is nowhere to be found, totally not appearing, on the monitor with Illustrator; and, while the toolbox is visible in PS, I can't use the toolbox functions at all... e.g. the type tool types only straight lines. I can't use the keyboard key commands for toolbox either. I don't know if the other CS programs are also damaged. I had PS and AI open when the system crashed.
I closed all programs and shut down everything, including the monitors and restarted. No improvement. I guessed that the software is damaged., and reinstalled all of the Creative Suite.
Still no toolbox in AI or function in PS.
Do you have any idea how to solve this problem?
    Thank you
    Linda

No that is not what I am saying you will not lose your applications or internet connections if you trash the preferences that is sound advice you should first try that method.
Make certain you trash the Adobe Illustrator Settings Folder in your user's preferences folder.
Also in this case in the same user's preferences folder there is a file called com.adobe.illustrator.plist trash that as well.
Restaring the computer is a good idea after doing that but not necessary. BTW make certain you first quit Adobe Illustrator before trashing the preferences.
The archival reinstall of your system might be useful if this does not work and if a reinstall of Illustrator does not work, each procedure follows the other and you only go to the next procedure if the previous fails, I worded my last post a little strangely, I apologize for the confusion.

  • Core Duo power electric power usage

    I had to auto shut down my old imac G5 every night to keep my electric bill from swelling. Now I have the Intel Core Duo imac and do the same thing. I was wondering;
Does having 2 processors use more or less electricity?
All things being equal will I see my electric bill go up or down?
    Thanks;-)

For an otherwise-identical processor, two cores would take more power than one. But the new Intel chips, even with dual cores, use less power than the older PowerPC G5 processors. So your Intel-based Mac should, under identical setup (screen size, RAM, hard drive, peripherals), circumstances and usage, consume less power. Whether or not it will be enough for you to notice any change on your electric bill I can't say, though I'd rather doubt it since your computer is (unless you have an unusual household) a relatively small part of your overall electric usage.

  • Using arduino with electrical power suite

I am using an arduino to measure voltage and current and eventually get the power readings . But however when i am getting  the readings from the analog input  and connect it to my power VI the  power factor remains 1or -1 . I am measuring single phace power. I am using an SCT- 013 -000 current transformer for the current . and apower transformer for the voltage 240 - 6V . below is my vi and screenshots . Can you help me troubleshoot why my powerfactor isonly flickering between 1and -1 . for all loads including resistive , capacitive and inductive loads .

OK. Let's try to define some terms.
Phase resolution: The smallest difference in phase angle between the voltage and current waveforms that can be measured.
Example: At 50 Hz one period is 20 ms. If you take a sample every millisecond (1 kHz), you will get 20 samples per cycle of the 50 Hz signal. That is equvalent to 18 degrees between samples. Since power factor is proprtional to the cosine of the phase difference you would get possible power factor values of 1, 0.95, 0.81, and 0.59 for phase differences of 0, 18, 36, and 54 degrees or time differences of 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 milliseconds.
If the sampling rate is 120 Hz, the period is 8.333 ms and the phase resolution is 150 degrees. That is meaningless for power factor measurements.
Next, the Arduino LINX software cannot achieve anywhere near 120 Hz as you have the VI set up.  Open up the LINX VIs and look at what they are doing. It sends an 8-byte packet to define a channel. Then it waits for 2 bytes to return. One of those bytes tells the next VI how many data bytes are coming. It appears that you get 2 bytes of data from each read. That is a total of 24 bytes for two channels. The digital write also sends 8 bytes although that runs in parallel with the reads. With the standard settings doing two one-channel analog reads takes at least 25 ms. That is equivalent to a sampling rate of 40 Hz. The Nyquist criterion specifies that the sampling rate must be greater than twice the frequency of the signal you want to measure. So your sampling rate needs to be >100 Hz.
If you use the N Channel version of Analog Read for two channels (as opposed to the two separate Reads you have now), it sends a 9-byte packet and receives 6 bytes. The maximum rate it could achieve is ~64 Hz, which is still far too slow.

    Hi Froggy,
Thanks for all the suggestions, really appreciate it.
I think I must have been updating my signature when you viewed the post if it wasn't showing up. I am getting by on integrated graphics for the time being so could I OC that a little too?  The memory is Samsung Green DDR3 2 x 4GB but I've not re OC'd it yet whilst trying to ensure the CPU OC is stable first.
I found an old screenshot from my OC on BIOS v10.5 where I had the Spread Spectrum disabled so I think that has been the main thing causing instability this time around at achieving 4.4GHz on BIOS v10.6.  I've not used the Enhanced Turbo before so am not sure what that does, am coming from a very old non msi motherboard that used an Intel 440GX chipset.  Is the Enhanced Turbo the feature that OC's just the one core?  I've implemented some of these changes that I've highlighted in green and been running P95 for around 4 hours without any bsod, or threads in error.  CPU-Z mainly shows a core voltage of 1.176 or 1.184 and my temps on the hottest cores have maxed at 60c.  Will it be possible to go any higher than 4.4 but still retain the power saving of throttling back to 1.6GHz on idle?
    Disable EuP 2013
    Change Internal PLL to 'Enabled'
    Enhanced Turbo to 'Enabled'
    Disable 'Spread Spectrum'
    Try VDroop at 100%
Digital Comp Level change from 'Auto'
    Core Expander change from 'Default'
    Leave Core Switch as is
    Change I/O to 1.07
    SA to 0.970
    PLL to 1.82-1.84
    PCH 1.055-1.061
C-State either 'Disabled' or if want to keep it, change package limit to 'No Limit'
    Long 'D' (W) change to 250
    LD Maintain (s) to 60
    Short D (W) to 250
    Primary (A) leave alone
    Secondary (A) to 60
    Primary Turbo (W) to 250
    Secondary Turbo (W) to 250
Other notes; I always 'Disable' C-State, and 'Enable' C1E Support when doing a Turbo OC with EIST to take full advantage of those power saving features they provide.
