Electronic data interchange- edi

I read that SAP has defined its own edi standard known as idoc.
But i am not finding any articles on the web nor in scn where i can get the design history of idoc.
I mean whats the difference between standards like x12 ans idoc.Why is idoc considered better?
Can somebody please help me understanding this?
It has been one week i am looking for this information.

ALE is technology for SAP mainly used to transfer data between SAP systems.
EDI is the independent technology use to transfer data between two systems, they can be SAP systems or non SAP systems.
The basic difference with ALE and EDI is ALE used for internal communications and EDI is meant for external communications.
Since ALE uses an IDOC format to exchange data between systems, both participating systems should understand the IDOC format.
In other words ALE normally used to distribute the master data (Ex: Material Master, Vendor Master) with in a company when you are maintain the distributed
environment. EDI is for exchanging transaction data (Purchase order,
Delivery) between two different business partners.EDI is all about the standards (Ex: ANSI X12, EDIFACT) you have to follow when you are transferring business documents. Technically speaking, ALE transfers the data using memory
buffers whereas EDI uses file port to transfer the data.
With EDI technology you always need a translator to convert the IDOC to X12 (Outbound), X12 to IDOC (Inbound).But with ALE you don’t need a translator.

Electronic Data Interchange Using Oracle

hello,
we are dooing soem electronic data interchange project in Oracle, we will receive a file of EDI from customer and thenm we have to process and update database based on it, what is the best way to do EDI , using PL/sql or any other way is there. as we are planing in such a way that first we will load that falt file inot oracle tables using sql loader then process that temporary table.
If anybody is working on EDI using Oracle, please tell us how they are doing it.

A través de SAP NetWaver, vienen características nuevas como DataArchiving y OpenText que proporcionarían una interfaz compatible con EDI.
Inicialmente está orientada hacia las plataformas grandes de SAP como R3 y A1, pero también lo está en cierto grado hacia SB1, aunque me queda la duda de qué tanto. En el webcast de lanzamiento, quedaron de dar respuesta luego, sobre la manera como se integraría con Business One (B1).
Sin embargo, debe existir software de terceros que soporten EDI y que sean integrables a SB1.
Espero haber sido de ayuda.

Falei com a Sawluz e eles não tem mais esse add'on para o SAP, mas eles fizeram uma parceria com a Uppertools de Sorocaba (meu parceiro SAP), onde eles desenvolveram um add'on especifico pra isso.
Entre em contato com o Evandro Acca, ele pode demonstrar pra você em um cliente SAP o EDI funcionando, eu fiquei de ir na época mas não precisei mais implantar aqui na empresa, só que quando eu tiver oportunidade de alguma viagem, vou passar lá em Sorocaba pra ver o EDI funcionando.

EDI is the predecessor to XML. It is a document format that is used to pass data between disparate computer systems.
There are many different EDI file formats (like X12) as well.
Did you try looking up Java EDI on Google?

B2B adapter is not polling any data from EDI X12 810 ECS file

I am new to Oracle B2B. I am using
Jdev 11.1.1.6
Oracle Editor : 7.0.5.4016
Document Protocol : EDI_X12
Document type : 810 (Invoice )
Version: 4010
Weblogic server :11.1.1.6.0
Requirement is : i had an EDI file and i need to translate the EDI map using the B2B adapter, transport to SOA Suite and insert into a custom DB.
Issue is : B2B adapter is not polling any data from EDI X12 810 ECS file
for this i created sample EDI X12 810 ecs file, i converted the same to .xsd and .dat file. I created partner, and while configuring channel i used '*Generic File 1.0*' protocol and i given folder path( i also checked, by just giving folder Name) in the folder name property of 'Transport Protocol Parameters' , i also placed sample xml file into this folder. And I created sample process in Jdev to poll data from this folder.
build and deployment is fine for this process, but no instances is created for this process. and the Process is not Polling any data from the folder which i mentioned in the Transport Protocol Parameters.
is this the way am doing is wrong for my current requirement or am i did any wrong step (as stated above ) ? Please help me. How can i receive data from this EDI file to my bpel process so that i can continue with the rest of the Process. Thank you in advance

I placed .dat file now. The file Picked by B2B adapter. But i was getting the Error. The error i found in Business Message as

I also has one more doubt, now i created ecs,xsd and .dat by selecting sample EDI file in Document editor. suppose i want create the same ecs ,.xsd and .dat for my gentran file which is of EDI x12 810 standard but i have it in PDF format , then how can i access that to in Document editor ( in the import option, i found Gentran DDF and Gentran Unix IG and i was getting the following error while importing my PDF file

Data Interchange architecture

I am involved in the design of an application which primarily involves Data Interchange between various datasources distributed across the country. Obviously, the communication has to be secure.
I am confused as to what technology would be most appropriate to use for this scenario...J2EE/JMS or .NET/Web Services...I guess the data interchange format should definitely be XML based.
I'd appreciate any feedback to enlighten me...

Good 's issue details:
Segment: E1EDT13 .
This has the field called qualifier (QUALF = 006) -- 006 for : '006' = Goods Issue
Another Field : NTANF - Goods Issue Date

Hello,
There is no standardized interchange format to transfer information between ORACLE BPA / ARIS - Visio and other tools.
But we have a solution that is capable to transfer every model information out of Oracle BPA to Visio and visa versa.
This solution also enables the BPA methodology in Visio. That brings the modeling constrains of the BPA suite to Visio and helps to ensure the conventions.
But this is not a substitute for the BPA Suite because everything you model on the Visio side is still not repository based! So you will also need the BPA Suite to manage the complete modeling environment. But as a support for occasional users this is a good thing and closes most of the modeling gaps between different tools.

Problem with Date in EDI posting

PO created and updated by the EDI 945 from mexico SAP system. Once the EDI is sent,it changes the arrival date of the PO to the ship date. An example is STO 506613882. When created this PO, it had a delivery date of 02-01-08. It was updated by the system to reflect a date of 01-26-08. This creating problem because the receiving sites are on ATP. Any got any idea of Resolving this issue.

How did you create this PO? Was it automatic or manual?
Whatever, if there was no manual intervention in all the process, then you need to check the Inbound Idoc that has created or updated the PO.
Go to the control Record of the Idoc concerned and take the Sender Partner of the Idoc.
Now check the Partner Profile on [WE20]>Inbound Parameters> select the message type (ORDERS for e.g) and then click on details Icon. You can see the Process Code double clicking on which you get the "Function Module" which is responsible for the Integration of this Idoc into SAP.
Now go thru this Func Mod and search for the required field i.e Ship Date filed for example (find-->gloabl search). You can see in the program how the field is mapped to Idoc segment and how it is getting updated.

Hi Raju,
If you are using Idoc WMMBXY02 or any WMMBXY* ,and if you want to receive against the delivery, you have to populate the Idoc field E1MBXYI-KZBEW with 'B' and populate field E1MBXYJ-VLIEF_AVIS with your delivery number (don't forget to pad with leading two zeros).
This will work. Try it and let me know. I am sure it will work.
