Elemental Accelerator

Is anyone out there successfuly utilizing elemental accelerator 2.1 or 2.2 to edit AVCHD video in PPro CS 4.1?  If so, I would love to hear what your experience with it has been. I am not having any luck so far.The Mainconcept encoder that comes with PPro works perfectly, but no go with the elemental encoder. Why bother? I have been asking myself the same question, but supposedly the elemental encoder should use the GPU to encode much faster.
System:
NVIDIA Quadro FX4800 191.00 driver
Intel Core i7 975 3.33 GHZ
12 gb Ram
Vista 64
Premiere Pro CS4.1
Elemental Accelerator just upgraded to version 2.2
Thanks for your input

Hello,
A bit of followup for the forum. In spite of truly epic efforts by Lisa and the support team at Elemental Accelerator, the software problems have yet to be resolved at least for my editing needs. It seems that the problem is with the NVIDIA driver. The EA team did put out a workaround that resolved the AME crash problems but at this point, I have found out that:
1. EA only shows acceleration for H.264 encoding and although my source is H.264 (.MTS), this software is not designed to accelerate encoding to .mpg or avi.
2. EA is not able to encode key framed opacity changes, ie fade in / fade out of clips or titles using key frame opacity changes
3. EA seems to be unable to encode any of the stock adobe video transitions (ie cross dissolves, additive dissolves etc) and when it encounters these transitions it defaluts to the stock MainConcepts encoder. Because of this, EA actually encodes a timeline with simple transitions SLOWER than the stock encoder that comes with PPro CS4.1
At this time, I have uninstalled Elemental Accelerator, but being the eternal optomist...when the new NVIDIA driver revision comes out, I will reinstall the EA and try it again. For the time being, the stock MainConcepts encoder meets all my needs and the rendering time is certainly tolerable. I will put my Elemental Accelerator disc into my "Things I Wish I Hadn't Purchased" museum......shelved neatly between my Ford Edsel owner's manual and folder of Enron stock certificates.
Until EA and NVIDIA iron out their incompatabilities, my advice is to save your money and invest it in an extra bag or two of good Costa Rican coffee to sip while you wait for the encoding to finish.

  • Audio out of sync with elemental plugin, and slower than my i7!!!

    Maaannn!!
I just got a PNY nvidia quadro 1800 with elemental accellerator plugin. I just transcoded 2 hours of HDV straight from premiere 4 with Adobe Media Encoder using the Elemental codec and the audio is out of sync. It plays out of sync on the Blu Ray disk, and in Encore4. The audio is perfectly synced in Premiere. I just did another project a week ago without the Elemental, using the default Main Concept encoder and the audio is perfect. I am pretty sure I have the latest version of the Elemental Accellerator because there is a button to check for updates and it says there are no updates available. Does anybody know what is wrong here?.
The transitions are getting messed up. I can see a small section with the audio synced, then the video repeats after a second throwing them out of sync. I also suspect that the Elemental accelerator does not process any faster than the default h.264 for Blu Ray encoder. I hope I did not waste my money on this nvidia quadro 1800..
Whoooaa! I just woke up and checked the transcoding time.. To transcode approximately 2 hours of HDV it took 6:35 (hr:mm) with the elemental accellerator and it took 5:09 with my i7 920 chip!! Was that nvidia card a waste of money, or what?!!! Between the slower speed and the audio out of sync, I'd say I made a BIG misteak.. Does anybody want to buy a PNY nvidia quadro 1800? it'll be on ebay very soon..
    Win7 64bit, Master Collection 4, i7 2.66 Ghz, Kingston Triple Channel DDR3 1600Mhz 6Gb, ASUS P6T, PNY nvidia quadro 1800.....

    Thanks Neil,
I don't think my audio interface has anything to do with it.. I am using Adobe Media Encoder for the export and the Audio interface's latency has nothing to do with it.. I see the source of the problem but not the solution.. The Elemental plugin is not working properly with the transitions in Premiere. The transitions are visibly botched and the sound is in sync for a partial second of each clip, then the video skips backward as the sound keeps playing. This happens on every clip after the transition.
Whatever you were talking about might have to do with some kind of real time export, but to where? I think Premiere might have some auto plugin delay compensation for audio tracks.. I dont think you even read my post.. My MOTU 896 Mk3 audio interface has a 128 sample buffer leaving a few milliseconds of latency, and I can set it as low as 64.. This still has nothing to do with my problem.. Thanks for your input..
I am curious to know what you thought I was capturing elemental streams and audio from my interface in real time to.. I was unaware of anything that works like that in this type of editing..
The bottom line is that my i7 chip gets the job done much faster than the quadro 1800, and that's a shame that I spent the money on the 1800.. On top of that it doesn't even work properly!!

  • Photoshop, Windows 7-64bit and True - 8 Core Support

Doing a Workstation build for my Daughter, her studies are in Graphics Design and Animation. I am concern about Photoshop CS support for true muilt-core systems; namely more then two cores, and 64 Bit OS.
Would like to kick off her new system correctly the first time with no problems.
    These are the Hardware and Items I am hoping to use;
    Supermicro H8SGL-F, supports one 8 or 12 core (G34) Processors, Supports up to 128GB DDR3 1333
    AMD Opteron Magny-Cours CPU 6128 ; 8-Core, 2GHz
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800 or FX 3800, both with Elemental Accelerator
    Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

I think it falls apart here:
    Photoshop CS
Unless, of course you really mean CS4/ CS5, not that legacy software. Still, even then, PS will rarely ever use, what you call, "true 8 cores". Most normal operations are simply not that computationally intense. Unless you use Merge to HDR, Panorama Merge, Content Aware Fill and 3D al lthe time, the system is considerably overpowered.

  • Adobe Media Encoder Locking up with AVCHD

    Greetings,
I have run so many tests on this project I don't know what else to try, so here it goes...
    My system -
    Windows 7
    ASUS P6T mobo
    Core i7 920
    Quadro FX 1800 w/Elemental Accelerator
    PPro Prem Prod CS4
All current drivers and updates installed
I have plenty of speed to run AVCHD but upon encoding in AME there is a crash issue.
Source footage is 10 minutes of AVCHD (.mts) captured at 17Mbps, 1920x1080i, 60i.(I've also tried other AVCHD source footage).
I run Elemental Accelerator on a Quadro FX 1800 card with the latest version of drivers. The CS4 version is also latest version.
The footage is edited in PPro. It has several titles, one of which is an AE linked title, but fairly simple.
The footage is edited as timelapse, sped up between 200-400%, so, it's pretty 'busy'.
Audio track is standard .wav file
Upon export, I wanted to make a master file at 1920x1080p, using Elemental H.264...or Elemental MPEG-2.
I check render at maximum quality....multiplexer is TS. I've tried the preset bitrates, and custom from 12-28kbps.
Every time I set it to encode, AME locks up....at random times. The entire system locks, no mouse response, and have to do a hard restart.
I've tried MANY test clips...mostly around 2-5 minutes in length. Sometime the shorter clips will render, but if I go over this length it always locks up.
I did try bitrates ranging from 12Kbps to 28Kbps....and it did seem once I went over 15Kbps they ran longer or enabled a longer 'attempt' or a successful encode up to 5mins. Still, with those exact settings it locks up on a longer encode.
I made a successful encode using a non-Elemental preset, but it takes foooreever. 3.5 hours for 10 minutes of footage at 1920x1080p...which seems ridiculously long on a GPU enhanced card. As a comparison, I have a third party encoder (AVS) and it FLIES through the (pre-rendered) footage at blazing speeds with good quality. (Yes, I know that's diff than the first pass encode however).
I've tried un/reinstalling CS4, Elemental, and all drivers on a CS4 Clean Script for Windows....no help whatsoever. Defragged, ran CCleaner....no help.
Is my bitrate too low? GPU issues? Voodoo curse?
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your response dradeke. Yes, that was one of the fist things I checked. I double checked with Elemental Tech support, and even sent them my project files to see if they could duplicate the crashes but they have not found any issues on their end. I have all the updates to both CS4, EA, Windows.
I'm at a total loss here...I've even switched the projects to other drives, and tried deleting prefs.

  • Should I disable RAID 0?

I need some advice on what to do with my present system. I will be using CS4 Prod Prem for editing HD, AVCHD, SD, etc. ...here's the issue -
I bought a custom built comp with -
Antec 902 Mid Tower ATX case
750Watt Corsair power supply w/140mm fan
    2-120mm fans
    ASUS P6T mobo
    Core i7 920 CPU
    Kingston V-Series SSD 128gb drive (for Win 7 + app's)
    2- WD Caviar Black 1TB
    12gb RAM (mushkin 4gbx3)
nVidia Quadro FX 1800 + Elemental Accelerator
    +
I have 4 USB external drives, and one Firewire 800 drive attached as well. (Unfortunately these are 'mostly' maxed out, but I can still defrag.)
I had originally asked for the 2 WD Caviars to be set to RAID 0, but after I realized I would have no redundancy I asked for it just to be set up as two single drives. But, they kept it in RAID 0 . The RAID is controlled by the ASUS mobo. I am thinking a RAID 3, for now....eventually expanded to RAID 30 will be my best option.
I know I'll have to get more HDD's, but I need to know what would be my best option.....
    1. Should I disable the RAID 0 until I can get more HDD's so I won't lose data? If so, how do I go about that....I would need to re-install Win 7 correct?
    2. Or, should I just go ahead, get 2 more drives and go with a different RAID (x)?
    3. If I have to get a RAID controller card for RAID 3, what's my cheapest/most reliable option? I just don't think I can swing the high end Areca cards right now.
    4. If I go RAID 3, and want to expand to RAID 30, will I have to run an external RAID tower instead of internal discs?
    5. If a drive goes down, how fast do I need to get the new drive in?
    Lost, dazed and confused....please help!

    1. Should I disable the RAID 0 until I can get more HDD's so I won't
lose data? If so, how do I go about that....I would need to re-install
    Win 7 correct?
Win 7 and your programs are on the SSD, so there is no need to re-install Win7. To disable the current raid0, you have to know how it was setup. Was this done in the BIOS using the ICHR10 or the Marvell chip or was it done in software under Windows? Look in the user guide in section 4.4 for instructions on how to break out the raid to individual disks.
    2. Or, should I just go ahead, get 2 more drives and go with a different RAID (x)?
Getting 2 more internals is always wise, since they are a lot faster than your current USB externals and these are already pretty full. I would make sure you get the identical model as your current WD Caviar Black. Also make sure that ACPI is disabled in the BIOS, because it can disrupt reliable operation of the Caviars in a raid. BTW, I'll explain later, but consider getting 3 Caviars instead of 2.
    3. If I have to get a RAID controller card for RAID 3, what's my cheapest/most reliable option? I just don't think I can swing the high end Areca cards right now.
AFAIK Areca is the only controller card to offer Raid3. Also keep in mind that buying an Areca controller card is like buying a Vinten or Sachtler tripod and fluid head. Pretty expensive, but usually they last a lifetime. Now the Areca may not last a lifetime, but can certainly last a couple of PC generations.
    4. If I go RAID 3, and want to expand to RAID 30, will I have to run an external RAID tower instead of internal discs?
Not at all, if your case is large enough. For instance in my case I currently have 2 BRD burners and 17 3.5" disks. If I want I can increase that to 2 BRD burners plus 21 3.5" disks of which 15 hot-swappable.
    5. If a drive goes down, how fast do I need to get the new drive in?
As I said above, I suggest you get 3 WD CB disks. You can then configure them in a 4 disk raid5 array plus 1 hot-spare. The dilemma is that AFAIK neither the ICHR10 nor the Marvell support hot-spares, so you may need an Adaptec, Areca or 3Ware controller to get hot-spare support. If you don't have the budget for an Areca controller, then in the future you may find that the more affordable Adaptec or 3Ware card (or even Hightpoint or LSI) have no further use if the time comes for a raid3 card.
With a hot-spare in a raid5 when one disk fails, you can take your time with getting a new one (although with reduced security untill replacement). If one disk fails, you will have reduced performance for less than an hour, maybe only for minutes, untill the hot-spare kicks in. You can easily take a week or even two weeks to get a replacement disk if you can live with the reduced security of not having a hot-spare available anymore.
With hot-swappable drive cages you gain easy access to all your disks, like for instance the SuperMicro CSE-M35T, http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16817121405
    Hope this helps.

  • CS4 Rendered output playback differenent from timeline monitor

I have an interesting problem here. I have about 20 clips which have been trimmed in the source monitor, by setting in and out points, and then dragged to the timeline. When scrub or hit enter to render the timeline, it looks great - exactly as I expect. However when I export it's as though the in and out point of each clips are being ignored and it looks totally different.
I have a feeling I'm missing something silly - has anybody seen this before?

    The clips i'm using are 1080i 60fps
I'm outputting to H.264, scaling down to 720
I'm using a quad core laptop with a NVIDIA Quadro FX3700M graphics card.
I recently installed a trial verion of Nvidia Elemental Accelerator. This hooks into PP and comes up as a set of different output options during render setup - i.e ELEMENTAL.H.264 as opposed to H.264 - selecting the elemental option seems to be causing the issue When I switch back to the reguar output settings no issues. I'll post this to the NVIDIA board as well.
One other thing - I did check the NVIDIA website and found I didn't have the up to date driver (duh!) - that's probably all the issue was.
    Thanks again for your responses!

Does anybody know something about quadro fx 1800 support fo Premiere cs5 ?
It`s very important to me. Premiere cs 4 supports fx 1800 if you have elemental accelerator.

  • Jerky and abrupt frame movement after rendering (Clip)

    Hello,
Would anybody happen to know what's the reason of jerky and abrupt frame movement after rendering?
Please go to the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANTpUzk3jYY and watch the clip.
    - I have a 4Core CPU (Intel i7)
    - Graphic Card: Quadro FX 4800 (with the latest 64-bit drivers installed)
    - The most recent version of Elemental Accelerator (with the latest drivers installed)
    - Adobe After Effects CS4, Adobe Premiere PRO CS4.2
    - Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended
    - Windows 7 64-bit
    - RAM memory: 12GB
Do you know why does this happen?
    Thank you!!
    Giannis

I use a Full HD 1080i SONY Semi professional cam (2,930.00 $). I use AVCHD file format which is accepted by premiere and after effects. I could convert it but I would not like to spend time since this kind of format is accepted by the software.
I don't have these problems all the time. Eventually I managed to export the clip properly. I think it has to do with temporal memory. I don't know. I have to check all the memory data for best peformance and best rendering. I think I have already done this but I will dig a little deeper in this..

  • Video Capture format

When I capture video off my Sony DCR-VX2000, I always get an AVI file. Is it possible tho get an MPEG-2? I couldn't find any place to change the file format on capture.
    Thanks,
    Dean

The reason I ask this seemingly silly question is because I just purchased Elemental Accelerator (EA) 2.2 to take advantage of my Nvidea 4800 video card for video exports. However, EA support told me that to take full advantage of the software, the file must first be in MPEG-2 or H.264. ...which seems odd since that is the format that it exports out as.
I agree that the instructions seem odd, indeed. The purpose of EA is to Transcode to either of those two MPEG formats. Must have been a missing, critical word somewhere.
It would be like saying that I have this neat black box, that turns water into wine. First step - do not use water, but pour in wine...
The last thing that one wants is to first compress to MPEG-2, and then Transcode/Export to MPEG-2.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Which graphics card should I buy

    Would need some purchase assistance.
Which of these cards gives me the most performance for the money?
I need it for Red Giant software Looks 1.2 and Premiere CS4 (soon CS5) and for rendering out my 720p 25fps and 1080p 25fps CineForm files.
I also use ProCoder 3, will it help me there too?
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 1792MB PhysX CUDA
    Or
NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 with Elemental Accelerator
    Regards
    Mikael

I just found this at Red Giant home page, I guess I was not wrong after all.
    Rendering
In most cases, the Looks plug-in requires rendering to generate final color-corrected output. With host applications like Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro, you can use Looks as a real-time color correction effect with the dynamic playback capabilities. With applications such as Apple Motion and Adobe After Effects, rendering is required to generate any output with Looks applied. In general, the faster the graphics card, the faster the rendering of media. NVIDIA cards are generally faster than ATI cards of the same level for HD or HDV projects."
    Regards
    Mikael
PS I will go by the Nvidia path now for sure, but keep my other cards ATI cards for later:-)

  • Quadro FX 3800

    Hi,
Does anyone know if the FX 3800 (45K1673) graphics card comes bundled with Elemental Technologies' "Elemental Accelerator"?
    Thanks,
    Greg

    welcome to the forum!
the FX 3800 offered by lenovo includes the card itself and a basic set of drivers on CD.
you can purchase elemental accellerator at a discounted price through nvidia (link) once you have a qualifying quadro FX card in your possession.   the discounted price is $250 USD.
otherwise, if you wish to purchase a bundled card, you will need to buy the version offered by PNY.   the part number is VCQFX3800-ELEM-PB.

  • Advice on CS4 system config for AVCHD/Blu-Ray

    Hi,
I need some advice for a CS4 system  config.
I am currently building this system for editing uncompressed SD/HD/AVCHD video and authoring Blu-Ray, Flash, SD DVD's.
This is being built a local comp store and parts are already coming in, so any changes would be extras, and I'm on a budget. I know I should have posted this before, but reading conflicting reports on config/drive issues raised some questions and concerns.
    Here's the current specs.....
750W Corsair ATX Power supply w/140mm  fan
GlacialTech SilentBlade II 120mm case  fan
ASUS P6T motherboard w/Triple Channel  mem support
    Intel Core i7 920 2.66 Ghz  processor
    Kingston SSD(Now V-Series) 128gb,  SATA 300 boot drive
    Seagate ST31500341AS 1.5TB 7200RPM  HDD X 2 in RAID 0 Stripe (Internal)
    2GB DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333MHz) Memory X  6=12GB RAM
nVidia Quadro FX1800 graphics card w/Elemental Accelerator
LG Blu-Ray SuperMulti Blue DVD Burner
2TB USB External HHD (attached via  USB)
2TD Firewire External HHD (attached  via Firewire 800)
4 Pin Molex to 2 x SATA power  adapter
4 live squirrels with hi-power hot  peanuts in hamster wheel
    Windows 7x64bit
I'll be using CS4 Production Premium  (upsell package) for Windows.
    1. Is it possible to run CS4 on an SSD drive (as the OS boot and app's drive)? I've heard mixed reports that CS4 does not play well with SSD's.
    2. When configuring CS4 for a project, which drive should each project element/asset go to maximize speed?  After seeing so many conflicting articles, I'm completely lost on cache drive vs. media/project files vs. backup drives.
    3. Should I use RAID 0 for my scratch discs (for performance) and just manually backup the project to an external HDD?  (I hear horror stories of these drives freezing in RAID).
    7. Should I wear boxers or briefs while editing?
    Thanks in advance!

    1. Yes, you can use a SSD as a boot disk for OS & programs. No problem.
2 & 3. Make sure you do NOT get the 7200.11 Seagates. You MUST only use the 7200.12 version. I would NOT put them in a (R)aid0, especially not with Seagates. Instead of two 1.5 TB disks, you can consider to get one 1.5 TB for source/media and two smaller disks, one for projects/scratch and one for exports.
Not all P6T mobo's have FW800 on board. You may be limited to FW400. For external (backup) storage you are better off with eSATA.
    7. Definitely boxers. It fits better with your climbing boots and real editors always wear climbing boots when sitting at their editing station, just in case a mountain suddenly appears on the monitor.

  • How to use hardware accelerated css transition to move an element smoothly

    Hello All,
I have created an element twice the width of my stage, and would like it to move across the screen when a button is clicked.  The problem is that the animation is not smooth at all.  It stutters and gasps like an old car! I was wondering if it is possible to use a hardware accelerated css transition to make it move more smoothly.  If this is possible could someone please give me example of what code to write and where?
    Thanks and all the best!

There's a few ways to do it, but I'd use a style sheet. So:
    1. Add this to the "creationComplete" Stage event:   sym.$("<link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='styles.css'>").appendTo("#Stage");
    2. Create a style sheet (text file) in your project folder named "styles.css", and define a class:
    .force-webkit-acceleration {
         -webkit-transform: translate3d(0,0,0);
    3. Give your animated element the class "force-webkit-acceleration" in the properties panel (the little c-in-a-box icon next to the title field).
Be sure that the style sheet file ends up in your "publish/web" folder too.

I am running the latest Windows 8.1 PC with heaps of Ram and memory. If I import the files into Premiere they play fine?

    Thanks Curt and 'Mylenium'
I did re-set the prefs - but to no avail
I checked and my graphics driver and audio is all up to date.
No sure how to verify Windows Media Player's hardware acceleration options. I opened WMP Options /Perfformance tab and under Cd the DirX tab is checked.
Running Windows Vista - so does the same caution apply regarding a re-install of Windows Media Components and DirectX ?
Appreciate your help with this somewhat frustrating issue. I am converting some old 8mm film to avi with the hope of doing some edits then burning to DVD.

  • Hardware Graphics Acceleration

As many users have noticed, there’s a new feature which is introduced in Office 2013 called "Hardware Graphics Acceleration", which sometimes is also called as "GPU rendering". The purpose of course is to improve performance.
As stated in the System Requirements for Office 2013, Graphics hardware acceleration requires a DirectX10 graphics card and a 1024 x 576 or higher resolution monitor.
A graphics processor helps increase the performance of certain features, such as drawing tables in Excel 2013 or transitions, animations, and video integration in PowerPoint 2013. Use of a graphics processor with Office 2013 requires a Microsoft DirectX
10-compliant graphics processor that has 64 MB of video memory. These processors were widely available in 2007. Most computers that are available today include a graphics processor that meets or exceeds this standard. But, if you or your users do not have
a graphics processor, you can still run Office 2013.
The option of hardware graphics acceleration can be found in any Office applications from
    FILE -> Options -> Advanced ->
Display -> Disable hardware graphics acceleration:
This setting can be controlled by the following registry key:
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure

Administrators can deploy this setting using Group Policy as well. Follow the steps below:
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these
problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
    1. Add the following files to your domain controller: Office15.admx and
Office15.adml files to your domain controller and then
    2. In the Local Group Policy Editor, select the Miscellaneous node of the

For more information about how to use .admx and .adml files for Group Policy administration, go to the following Microsoft TechNet website:
How to manage Group Policy ADMX files
Please note the change is global: Changing this option in a single Office program also applies to other remaining Office programs. So you don't need to follow these steps for all Office programs one by one. If you want to just disable animations in Word
but leave them on in Outlook, no we can’t.
When do we need to disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration?
I’ve seen in some cases users complain that Office Applications are laggy and slow, sometimes even hang/freeze. They have tried many things but couldn’t figure out the root. Actually, the animation sometimes can slow the performance down, once they disable
the Hardware Graphics Acceleration, the problem is gone.
There are also issues like blurred text/font, cursor hangs randomly in Office applications, we can disable this simple option to see if this fixes the problem.
Please note, the Hardware Graphics Acceleration option is not the only option that may cause issues. For example, an user needs to turn off the animation to improve the performance of Excel, but it doesn’t have any effects after disabling Hardware Graphics
Acceleration. Now let’s check this Windows setting:
On the Desktop, right click on This PC(or Computer) icon, select
Properties, then Advanced system settings on the left side, under
Advanced tab, click on the Settings button for
    Performance.
    Now we see this:
Uncheck the box for Animate controls and elements inside windows, click
    OK button.
Now the problem should be gone.
    Another case:
If you have blurred text/font issue in Word, you may consider to disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration. If this doesn’t help, what to do next?
Please go to FILE tab -> Options ->
Advanced -> Under Disable hardware graphics acceleration, there’s a checkbox for
Use Subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen, uncheck it and click
OK. The blurred text/font should be gone.
    Summary
In this article I introduced how to configure Hardware Graphics Acceleration from applications, the registry and Group Policy. There are also some issues it may cause and what we should do to resolve them. If you have any ideas about this topic or any other
