Elementary configuration on rv082

Hey Guys,
I am setting up a SBS 2011 Essentials sever using a rv082 router. I have a decent understanding of how everything is suppose to work, but execution has been sloppy. My aim is to set up a central storage location, back up services, remote access and VPN. Yesterday I had set up dhcp and dns roles on the sever, configed port forwarding and firewall setting on the router, at that point I was just bouncing around everywhere trying to get stuff to work, clearly not the best way I know. Before I left I reinstalled sbs for a couple of reason, along with resetting the router to default. I would really appreciate if you guys could help me get things set up.

Thanks for writing. Basic setup of the RV082 from its default state is straightforward. You can break the process down into several steps:
Configure the WAN Connection: In its default state, the RV082 is configured for a DHCP connection such as is used by a cable ISP. If you have cable, simply connect the modem to the WAN port. Under Setup, you can enable the MAC Address Clone feature by clicking "MAC Address from this PC." This is necessary for some cable connections. Additionally, under the Network tab, you can edit the configuration for WAN 1 to accept a static IP or PPPoE (DSL) connection.
Define LAN Parameters: Once connected to the internet, you can further customize the router by editing the DHCP scope and DNS servers. Under Network, you can enter manual DNS servers for the local network. Under the DHCP tab, you can set the DHCP mode for the network. If you want the router itself to act as the network's DHCP server, make sure the Enable DHCP Server check box is selected. If, however, you would like your SBS Server to be the DHCP server for your network, select DHCP relay and enter the IP address of the server. The router will then forward DHCP requests from devices to your SBS server.
Implement the FIrewall Configuration: Finally, you may wish to forward ports. This can be accomplished under Setup>Forwarding. Forwarding ports involves two steps: first, you define the service you wish to foward from the internet to your local machine. Then, you define the host to which the service is to be forwarded (in this case, the server). To define a custom port, click Service Management. Then, enter the IP address of the server, check enable, and click add to list. Make sure you save the configuration at the bottom of the page.

Retrieve running configuration from RV082 without username or password?

I have just started a job at a critical infrastructure plant in which the previous person in my position has several things set up with almost zero documentation. Since this plant is infrastructure-critical, I need to be careful in what I muck around with. Right now, the plant has no internet access (it is not necessary for the functioning of the plant) because the gentleman I replaced had set up an RV082 and was using it to VPN tunnel into the network. He is now on disciplinary leave, probably never to return, and we want to be sure he cannot access the plant. I don't know if we need to have access to the plant while off-site, but just in case we do, is there any way to get the running configuration off of this device while not knowing the username and/or password? I would really like to not wipe it out, but I suppose I can if there is no other way.

Configuring RV082 and Load balance

Hello everyone,
I'm asking for your help in order to configure my RV082. Here my problem :
The RV082 is between an ISA server 2006 and 2 Internet Box with Static WAN IP Address.
I didn't find the right configuration in order to have the 2 Internet connections simultaneously.
Here the network configuration :
ISA server 2006 :
External NIC IP : 10.0.101.253
Gateway : 10.0.101.250
RV082 :
Static Ip address : 10.0.101.250
WAN 1 : 81.89.63.61
WAN 2 : 10.0.101.1
Box Internet 1:

I'm only able to have one Internet connection at a time and really can't find the right configuration to have the 2 connections up and add their bandwith. If needed i can give more details.

I would suggest that you call into our Cisco Small Business Support Center (1-866-606-1866) and open up a case to assist you in
your configuration. We will need the serial number of the router when you call to check entitlement.

Windows 7, RV082, QuickVPN hangs

Hi Experts,
I have a tough one. I have installed QuickVPN on a few systems now for an office I administer and have had relatively few issues. I have a tough one now though. I installed QuickVPN 1.4.1.2 on a Windows 7 system. The connection with the router gets set, but hangs at this point:

I initially thought it was the DSL router on the client side that was the problem, but I was able to successfully vpn in using the same client version, same login/pw credentials with my laptop using the same dsl router. I have done all kinds of research on this issue, and have come up blank. So far, I have eliminated the Cisco RV082 router, the QuickVPN client, the DSL router on the client side, and the setup. Obviously the problem probably lies with the actual system. But I don't know where else to look. Any help would be appreciated.

Unable to access folders with RV082 QuickVPN

I have an office peer-to-peer network (win 7) connected with a QNAP NAS and a RV082 router. There is no proper naming (I don't know how to implement it) so everything is access via IP.
I managed to configure my RV082 to accept VPN connection from home via QuickVPN with cert etc and managed to ping all the running devices in the office, i.e. printers, nas, etc after connected with the office network.
However, when I try to browse the NAS say run "\\192.168.1.5\", it says "The network path was not found". But I could ping the IP just fine but not the name, I'm not sure if adding it into my lmhost will help.
I'm wondering if any of these has anything to do with my VPN settings? or is it my horrible network setup that is giving me the trouble. I also noticed that if i'm not on the same workgroup, when I try to browse office workgroup from Explorer/ Entire Network it will say "workgroup not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource..................."
Is this more of a Windows than my VPN issue? do I need other protocols besides TCP/IP such as NWlink netbios. I only have client for microsoft network, file sharing and tcp/ip running.

Thank you for posting. Are you able to access shares on \\192.168.1.5 locally? If you can access the shares when you are onsite you should be able to access them using QuickVPN as well. You are correct that if you add the hostnames to the LMHosts file you will be able to access by name.
This sounds like an issue with the NAS itself. You can check this by trying to access a shared folder on a PC. You may need to disable any antivirus or firewall software on that PC before you can access shared folders.

Help with a new RV082 Router

Greetings all,
I hope this is the correct place to post my request for help.
I just installed a new RV082 Router and I can access the internet without any problems.
We have a security camera at 192.168.1.28 on the LAN side. This works just fine on the LAN side but cannot be accessed from remote machines trying to log into the camera remotely.
The camera can be access on port 2782 without any problems using my Linux based Smoothwall router by going to any web browser such as Firefox or IE8 by keying in: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:2782 and the camera’s web interface comes up allowing a user to login by keying in their id and password.
I’ve tried for a few hours now to change firewall setting but I still can’t get this to allow anyone to login remotely.
The Smoothwall router allows me to setup a pass through in the firewall by creating the follow entry:
Protocol                                  TCP
External Source IP                ALL
Source Port                           2782
Destination IP                        192.168.1.28
Destination Port                    2782
This works without any problems.
Can anyone help be configure the RV082 in order to gain access to the camera?
Any help will be appreciated. This is now driving me crazy.

Hi Howard,
To forward the port in the RV082, go to Setup-> Forwarding. Click the Service Management and create a new service for port 2782 (i.e. Service Name IPCam, Protocol TCP, Port Range 2782 to 2782, Add to list, Save Setting) Go back to Forwarding and select the new Service from the drop down list. Enter the IP address of the camera and check the Enable box. Add to list and Save Settings at the bottom of the page. Please let us know if this works or if you need further assistance.

Get configuration from dead RV082?

I really hope that there is a solution to this problem. I have an old RV082 that I suppose has failed. The red diag light on the front panel is lit and nothing works. I've already replaced the unit, so I don't really need to fix it. Here's my issue: the setup on the old unit was pretty complex with a number of port forwards and other non-default settings. I'd like to recreate those items on my new router, but they were never written down so I don't know what they were. I've tried to connect a computer to one of the LAN ports, but they're all dead. Is there any way to get at the configuration page? I'm desperate enough that I'd pay to get the unit repaired, but I'm guessing that there's no way to fix it that would preserve the settings. Is that right? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Robert, if you had remote management enabled on the router, you may be able to try to access the router over the WAN if you happen to know the WAN IP or if the router had a static WAN configuration.
If the LAN and WAN ports are not operational, I'm afraid there is not much to do, as the RV0XX firmware utility requires the router to be ping-able on the 192.168.1.0 network.

RV082 DMZ Configuration Question - Point to Point

Hello,
We have 2 offices in different countries both using the RV082 router. Currently both offices have an internet connection on WAN1 and that is working fine.
We are adding a Point to Point circuit between the two offices, and my question is on the RV082 configuration on each side.
I was going to configure WAN2 in DMZ mode on each router, then connect the point to point circuit to the WAN2 port. On the China side, the DMZ IP will have to be a private address (192.168.177.1), while the DMZ port on the San Diego side will be a public IP.
We need internal computers to be able to go to the internet normally through WAN1, but also go through WAN2 if they are trying to reach the other network. I will be adding routes on each RV082 for this.
Is there anything wrong with this configuration? Do I need to change the routers from Gateway to Router mode? Does it matter if the DMZ WAN2 port has a private IP address?
Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated!

Thanks Tom but that thread is not exactly what I was looking for. Mainly I just want to know if the RV082 can act as a fully functioning router with the two WAN ports going to different networks. So the LAN side would hit the router, look at the routing table and know which WAN port to go out of. Using the DMZ seems like it will work, but I have never tried it so I wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone has done this before.

What kind of application are you using as syslog daemon on that server? In general syslog communication is done using UDP protocol toward port 514 - which means your syslog application should listen on UDP port 514 and this kind of communication should be allowed on firewall.
Are you able to ping management address of RV082 from windows server? Are they both in same subnet (just question, but it is not mandatory).

RV082 Port Forwarding or DMZ Configuration Assistance

I have an RV082 V2 with 2.0.2.01-tm and I am having trouble with getting my Sprint Airvana to connect properly to the mobile service. Many suggestions I've read on the Sprint forums indicate putting the Airvana in the DMZ generally allows the device to work properly; however, none have the RV series routers for tips on how to do this appropriately. This device used to work fine behind the RV082, but I reset it one day and it no longer works.
The Airvana is a femtocell/router device with a WAN port and 3 LAN ports. If I connect the Airvana directly to my cable modem, I get the appropriate connection and can then make calls through the device instead of through the Sprint connection; I live in a basement unit and get crappy signal without the device. This proves the device works and that my ISP is not blocking the ports. Sprint indicates the device uses UDP 53, 67, 68, 500 and 4500. Their support sucks and they insist I put the Airvana before my router. I absolutely do not want to use the Airvana as the router. There are almost no configuration options in the router interface and it needs to be rebooted somewhat regularly, which would drop internet access throughout the house for 10-15 minutes while it reboots and finally establishes an internet connection.
As soon as put the Airvana behind the RV082, I no longer get the appropriate connection. I can, however, plug my computer into one of the LAN ports on the Airvana and connect to the internet in general. I have the router assign a static IP to the Airvana, and tried forwarding the required UDP ports to the IP. This did not fix the problem.
I can certainly troubleshoot the port forwarding issues, but I would also like to look into putting the device into the DMZ, if possible. I've not worked much in this area, so I am unsure how to appropriately configure the router to allow this to happen. Is it possible to have the Airvana in the router DMZ without having a public IP for the device itself? It seems this is something that can be done, but I could be mistaken. If so, how is that done?

I apologize in the delay in getting back to this post; however, it dropped to the bottom of my priority list for a while. As a workaround, I used the Airvana device as my router temporarily; however, I have the time again and would like to get it setup behind the RV082 again.
It does not appear the device supports UPnP. I had that enabled for some other applications already.
According to http://tinyurl.com/AirvanaPorts I need the following UDP ports open: 53, 67, 68, 500, 4500. Another suggestion from a Sprint rep was to also open/forward TCP 5060 and 5061. I have the ports forwarded to the device as shown below and have confirmed the device has the correct IP address. The device gets a valid internet connection (verified by plugging a computer into one of the LAN ports on the Airvana device; however, it still does not connect to the Sprint service like it should. I am guessing there is another port and/or the Sprint article has incorrect information.
To check this, I'm thinking I need to set the device up in the DMZ, but I'm not sure exactly what I need to do for proper configuration. Is it as easy as enabling the DMZ port and plugging the device in, or are there other settings needed? Is there anything else I may be missing for the Port Forwarding?

We recently purchased 26 iPads for an elementary lab. THe Apple Configuration tool does not do enough to help us lock students out of the settings folder to keep them from making changes. Is help on the way, or is there a third party solution available?

If we do not find a viable solution quickly, our district is going to stop purchasing iPads. HELP!

Unfortunately there isn't a way to completely lock out Settings. Apple designed iPads to be personal devices where user is "King"…which makes it a pain for school tech admins like you and I to manage. Apple only allows certain features and restrictions for 3rd party vendors to work with. So unfortunately there isn't a way to completely lock out Settings by a 3rd party vendor.
What settings are the kids changing? Perhaps there's a workaround that could help (until Apple makes things more school/enterprise friendly).

Problem with QOS for SIP on RV082

Hello,
I have problem with quality of VOIP call with Linskys RV082. Firmware is 2.0.0.19tm.
Router is configured as dual-wan , one port (WAN2) is for ADSL 8000/512kb and other one is (WAN1) SHDSL 8000/8000kb.
VOIP traffic from certain IP of LAN is routed to WAN2 (through protocol binding). We have quaranted QOS on ADSL by ISP.
Problem is that voice is dropping when we load WAN2 with other data connection. Last week i reload new firmware, restore default factory and configured router whole again. All was ok only for 1 day and then voice was dropping again. I mean that problem is at mark packets, because when I put VOIP PBX in front of behind router , QOS is working fine.
Can you help me? Is this know issue?

when i use shrewsoft for vpn ipsec i can not connect across rv082 to next hop on wan 1
but when i use PPTP on windows 7 for vpn PPTP i can connect across rv082 but high latency on this connection
please advice me for this issue

Can't configure both WAN ports on 1811 with SDM

Hi,
We recently procured an 1811 router to replace a SOHO linksys at a store we service. We needed redundant WAN interfaces to use the DSL as a backup to the main cable connection, and a Linksys RV082, while doing the job when it actually worked, died repeatedly. We decided after looking at the 1811's feature set to just get the Cisco and be done with it and not monkey with SOHO gear anymore.
Where I'm having difficulty is SDM won't let me configure both WAN interfaces from the GUI, it only allows me to configure one. I have it configured, and the router is working nicely in the test lab but I need to get that other interface configured and failover enabled before I can put this thing into production.
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to suck it up and learn IOS?

I ended up figuring out the IOS commands to enable one fastethernet port as a primary and the other one as a backup (running both cable and DSL for redundancy; it's a grocery store that runs electronic transactions over IP so 100% availability is a must).
The trouble I was running into in SDM is that while it would allow me to configure one WAN port through the GUI, the config options for the second one were grayed out. Now that both are configured through IOS the edit buttons for both WAN interfaces appear normally in SDM. It's almost as if Cisco didn't want users to be able to configure both interfaces graphically for initial setup.
Now just to test it at the site before the store opens to see if the failover works...
