Elements 10 and Canon ZoomBrowser

I just upgraded from Elements 8 to 10, and I'm having several issues with it,  First, when ZoomBrowser (ZB) calles Elements 10, the image is not passed to Elements unless it is the second time from the same folder, I have to open the image useing the open command.  Second, when I save the image to the ZB folder, ZB takes 10 seconds or so to open the image.  Elements 8 did have either one of these problems.
What should I be doing different??

Hi Tom,
Easy bit first: To get back to the Custom aspect ration, select No Restriction and enter sizes into the W & H - the aspect ration will change to Custom.
The menu option Crop (under Image) acts in two different ways. If you don't have anything in the photo select (say hand tool is selected) then the menu item will work the same as the Crop tool from the toolbar. If you have used the Marque to select an area of the photo, the menu item will then crop to that area.
Using the Marque/Crop method does not resample the image which is why the pixel size reduces and the quality looks the same as the original,
When using the pure Crop tool, if the resolution is left blank then it should not resample the photo and should reduce the pixel size and maintain the image. What I think you have found is that when you select Use Photo Ratio it always does a resample. This causes the pixel count to stay the same and the picture quality to reduce due to PSE adding pixels.
I always prefer to use the crop tool as there are more options like rotating the cropped area. The new overlays added in PSE 10 are great. I haven't had the problem with resampling before, mainly because I crop using either No Restrictions or a particular aspect ratio to match the output I am aiming for (paper size). As I said before, the experts on this forum have always recommended the Marque/Crop method because of the resampling problem. However, I now know what to watch out for when using the crop tool.
Please let me know if your observations don't match up with my ideas above.

  • PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 7 AND CANON ZOOMBROWSER

I have just bought elements 7 and wish to import all my photos with their keyword tags into elements, but the keywords do not seem to transfer. Please can anyone help?

I just confirmed that my ZoomBrowser EX (6.1.1) isn't writing the keywords into the industry-standard EXIF fields that other programs like PSE know how to read. Instead it's keeping them in the file "zb4meta.info" in the same folder as the photos.   (You may need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files to see this file.)   That file is in a format that only ZoomBrowser understands.
Looking at the file, it would be straightforward to write a reasonably simple script that would write the keywords and comments into the files' EXIF fields.  Perhaps someone on the Internet has already written such a program, or you have a friend proficient in scripting.

  • Photoshop elements and Canon 6D raw

Can i use PSE 10 and the raw files from my 6D, or is it still not possible?

Having invested in a full frame camera you may wish to take a look at Lightroom 4 which has all the same raw tools as CS6, in a very intuitive interface. The Lightroom library is very similar to organizer but much more powerful. LR4 will pair very well with PSE10, set up as the LR external editor.

    Les photos retouchées avec PE11 mettent des heures à s'afficher sur zoombrowser, même si la taille ne dépasse pas 2 megas;

    Hi,
Sorry no messag came through in your reply.
You will need Zoombrowser EX Version 6.9.0.1 or later - Canon have changed it to view the images produced by PSE 10 and later correctly.

  • Opening photoshop elements 10 jpegs in canon zoombrowser

    Hello
I'm new to Photoshop Elements 10. I'm using Windows 7 OS and like using Canon Zoombrowser for viewing my photo's as it gives better sharpness and colour than using the Windows Photo Viewer. When I open a jpeg file saved in Elements. The Windows Photo Viewer opens it instantly, but when opened in zoombrowser can take 20sec or more. or can cause the program to stop responding and shut down. Does anybody know of any fix for this problem?

    Hi Steve,
I have done a bit more testing and there has been a change in format produced by PSE 10.
I took the same JPG and just loaded it into the editor and saved it - no changes. The one produced by PSE9 was OK but the one produced by PSE10 causes the delay. I think that there may well be a problem with ZoomBrowser as all my other image browser work fine. I think that this is a case of two wrongs not making a right.
I have also found this error occurs in CS5 - see this bug report
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/corrupt_jpg_from_12_0_4
I don't think that there will be any quick answer to this, either from Adobe or Canon, so I think that it would be best for you to find a slightly different workflow.

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 7   - Comparison with Picasa and Canon Zoom Browser

I have recently bought a new computer and connected it to a USB hard drive which contained all my photos and a copy of an Adobe Photoshop Elements (APE) 4 catalog which permitted me to run APE 4 directly from the USB drive. The new computer runs on Windows 7 with Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. When I attempted to open the old catalog, created in APE 4 APE 4, APE 7 needed to convert it. The converted catalog then needed to reconnect with files and this took hours because APE seems to be incapable of sorting this out automatically. On the other hand Picasa 3 dealt with the matter in minutes and Canon Zoom Browser dealt with it in seconds. Why is this? What are the advantages of using APE 7 over Picasa 3 or Canon Zoom Browser?

    John McQuade wrote:
I avoid keeping photos on the C Drive of my computer because of adverse past experiences of losing data when problems arose and it was necessary to reinstall Windows. I prefer to use two separate hard disc drives connected to my computer using  USB ports so that I have all photos and catalogs on each drive. PSE catalogs appear to be drive letter specific so that a catalog created on one drive will not function if simply copied to the other. In PSE-4 I overcame this problem by opening the copied catalog and changing all references to drive letters. In PSE-7 I am unable to open the database and my goal is to find a quick and efficient way of modifying a copied catalog so that it functions on a drive different to the one on which the catalog was created.
Finally, and at long last, a kindred spirit that won't keep photos on the OS drive. I was told as recently as >> yesterday << that my post about saving photos anyplace else but  "C:/" was "non-sequitur".
Second, I'm sort of accustomed to "USB drive", as a synonym for "flash drive", and "Ext HDD" referring to an external HDD, (this makes sense, at least in my twisted individual perception), so accordingly, I apologize for my knee-jerk lecture about it.  (In hindsight, perhaps the only child in me is expecting too much also).
I never use external HDDs, but rather install additional HDDs internally to accomplish the same net result. My sensibilities here are, they are quite a bit less expensive, they do the same job, and you don't have addional s*** laying all over the place.
IMO, you are overthinking the database issue. I get to say that since I have no such ability to do so, and additionally, I have never been unable to reconnect a catalog other than within the normal Windows environment.
Therefore, I suggest changing the drive letter(s) to that of the old drive(s), and remain in blisslful ignorance as to whether PSE-7 is using the SN# or Drive letter to do its "dirty work".
As Mr. Ellis has pointed out, you're trying to do too many things at once. I'm going to suggest an "experimental" fix which is sort of backwards from Mr. Ellis', but retains the same spirit.
Install PSE-4 on the NEW machine! Insert its catalog file into its (PSE-4) correct folder. This location can be found by "Help" > "System Info".
Upon installation, PSE-4 will generate a new catalog, "My Catalog", therefore you must change the old catalog's name, (say "My Catalog 2"), to avoid a conflict.
You might have to change the "compatibility" mode for PSE-4 several times, before PSE-7 will be able to follow the file path.
As an additional note, since PSE-7 is technically, (according to Adobe), "incompatible", you can match its compatibility mode with PSE-4's, at the onset. After you have stabilized the system, change PSE-7's mode back to whatever works best.
If you need any more info on these operations, please feel free to post back.
I would like to add, that my PSE-7 in Windows 7 runs poorly in comparision with the same program in the XP environment. This seems not to be "typical", but IMO, worth mentioning.
Please also bear in mind that you can paste the entire catalog file into the "Open Catalog" dialog box, and PSE will place in its folder for you...!
Then, assuming the HDD letters are the same, it will reconnect "instantly", or in the case of a PSE-4 ".psa" cat file, PSE-7 will convert it, then open it instantly.
As an afterthought, by changing the drive letters, then pasting the .psa file into the "Catalog Open" dialog box, you do not have to make any additional installations of PSE, nor muck about in any database.

  • Photoshop Elements 9 and Canon 5D Mark II raw files

Does the newest Elements now open the Canon 5D Mark II raw files?  I called their customer service number and the women I talked to seemed uncertain about it. I have CS5 at home, and of course, there is no problem opening those files. But at work, they only have Elements and the past versions wouldn't open these files.  Hoping the new version will.  THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT.

Yes photoshop elements 9 will open them.
Depending on which photoshop elements versions you have at work,
you may just have to update the camera raw plugin to open those files.

  • Why Lightroom (Photoshop Elements and Photoshop CC) cannot open RAW-pictures taken by Canon G7X? When its possible?

When Lightroom (Potoshop Elements and Photoshop CC) can open RAW-pictures taken by Canon G7X-camera?

That is a new camera and you'll just have to wait and see when support is added. There's never any announcement ahead of time.
In the meantime you can either shoot RAW+JPG and import those, or convert to TIF using DPP and import those to Lightroom.

Okay, let's try it this way. You've got that dialog box onscreen. Click PRINT (see circle and arrow):
    Then you should see this:
Click that arrow and that window should expand to show you this:
Your actual choices in the last menu may read a little differently but that's the pulldown where you choose.

  • How can I import photo notes from Canon Zoombrowser to iPhoto?

    Hi all,
I used Canon Zoombrowser on various PCs before recently changing to a Mac, and have years' worth of photos all painstakingly annotated using the Notes field in Zoombrowser. When I import these photos to iPhoto there is no sign of the content of the Notes field. (In an ideal world, I guess it would automatically appear in the Description field.)
I know the Notes field info is stored with the .jpg file, as it's there when I copy photos to other PCs and view them using Zoombrowser. Just wondering if anyone else has faced this problem, and what to do to fix it? Don't want to lose years' worth of notes!
    Thanks
    Anna

    Anna
Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
I have never heard of Cannon Zoombrowser - in doing a google search on it it appears to be a proprietary program for processing movies
iPhoto works with photo standards - if the date is in industry standard EXIF or IPTC fields - http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/imagedatabases/iptc_naa.html - they are correctly processed in iPhoto - if they are in non standard fields then iPhoto will not handle them
So the answer is that it depends on if Cannon Zoombrowser handles the data in a standard way or not

  • DNG 4.2 and Canon G9 raw CR2 problem

I have been unsuccesful getting the 4.2 DNG to convert the CR2 Canon G9 files, getting an error message that the file type is not supported. Running Windows XP Home. Any ideas as to how I can fix this. Thanks, Jeff

I just helped my friend with the Canon G9 Raw file won't open and recognized on Mac Computer.
Problem when try to open or drag the Raw image (*.CR2 File), I got an error message says the file type is either not supported or corrupted, also the file in the browser are all grayed out, means can't click & select & open. So I re-install the software just to make sure the software is fine.
The software comes with the camera is easy to install, here is the thing I was stumbled but figured it out.
    1. Use browser to find the raw file.
    2. click to select the file
    3. go to Menu Bar under "File" there is a section you'll see "Process Raw File" or something like that, then you are done, from there you can edit and open a Raw file.
My impression towards to the raw image quality and canon software: The software interface is not as nice compare to PS Element 4 Raw Plug-in, especially there is not button for "Processing Raw" on the browser window that you have to go to File >.. , I hope this is just for Mac users or I have to say the software is silly.

  • Print Color Management Problem w. Photoshop Elements and Tiger/Leopard

Has anyone tried printing with ICC profiles through Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac? Apparently, it does not work on Tiger nor Leopard? My prints look very dark and over-saturated.
The Datacolor folks, who make the Spyder3 calibrators I'm using, say my prints look like they are being "double color managed," possibly once by PSE and once by the printer driver (even though it's turned off).
Over at the Adobe Forums some say it's a problem with Leopard. I'm not so sure, because I found that printing color management works fine on a Mac with Photoshop Elements 4.01 and Tiger. Any comments? Thanks.

Aha! Got it. Adobe has confirmed that the problem is on their end. PSE 6 is double color managing the images. Here's what one user got in reply from Adobe on the subject. There are two separate answers:
Thank you for contacting Adobe Technical Support.
After consulting with my colleagues about the issue you raised, I can let you know the following:
The issue is both on our as well as the driver software side and the workaround we have given is the best available at this time. This issue is affecting all printers, not just Epson or Canon.
The soft proofing effect that you are seeing in the print preview is indeed an attempt at soft proofing. However since Photoshop Elements managed prints are incorrectly double colour managed it is not as useful as it was initially designed.
As to the exact details of why this occurred, we have no official information.
We believe that this will resolve the issues you are experiencing, however, should the reply not help solve the problem, please contact us again, quoting the case number given above, and we will re-open the case.
    Answer # 2
We have had word back from our engineers regarding your issue.
The Photoshop Elements team are aware of the problem and are working with Apple and the printer manufacturers to get this to work correctly. In the meantime, the only workaround is to switch off colour management in Photoshop Elements and let the printer handle the colour management.
Unfortunately we can not make an estimation as to when a fix will be provided. We will close the case for the time being as there really is nothing more we can do about this issue besides offering the suggested workaround. Closing this case does not mean that the research will stop however and the engineers are working on a solution to this.
As the tech noted, let the printer handle the color instead. Tell PSE not to manage color so it is the step sending the data unaltered. When the print dialogue comes up, under the Color Correction heading, change the pull down menu to "ColorSync". In the menu below that, choose the correct profile for the paper you're using. If the Brightness menu is still active, look for any choice that allows you to turn it off. If none exists, leave it on Normal. If the options below that for Color Balance and Intensity are not grayed out, make sure they are at the center positions (no effect).
These steps are the same as before, except you're doing them in reverse. Photoshop is doing nothing and the print driver is handling the ColorSync chores rather than the other way around.

  • PS ELEMENTS and raw files

I have PS Elements 7. I cant open raw files from a memory card shot in a Canon 6D. I went to help in Elements, and under camera raw plug-in, it says my version is 4.5.0.175. Do I upgrade this, and how? Am I also going to need a DNG converter?

You need ACR 7.3 according to this list
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
So I don't think you are going to be able access the CR2 files directly from Elements.  (This is actually the Photoshop forum, and we don't know much at all about Elements.  You can find the right forum at Photoshop Elements)
So you are going to need to install the free DNG converter, but it is no real hassle.
