Elements 10 full backup crashes computer @ ~70%

I am running Elements 10 on Windows 7.  I am trying to do a full backup of a catelog and it crashes my computer somewhere between 60 and 80% complete.  I left the computer overnight so it isn't just "taking a long time".
I have successfully done backups in the past using Elements 10 backup on this computer.
Tried it to the local drive as well as a USB Drive.  Nothing else running at the time.  Done a catalog repair (no errors found) as well as an optimization.
Elements 10 was the first version I had so shouldn't be a catalog conversion issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Did you tried on the different locations of the hard drive, sometimes in the specific location there is a limited perssimison issue.
Also, check if you have any videos on your catalog, if so please try to move them into a different catalog and try only with images.

  • Rman full backup, crash and full restore?

    Hi,
    I try to implement a simple backup and restore process with rman. Ok, with rman it's not simple. ;-)
    My aim is to backup a database with a full backup and restore it from this backup, for example when it crashes.
    Ok, for creating the backup I use this rman script:
    run
    allocate channel t1 type disk;
    backup incremental level 0 format 'PATHTOBAKFILE' database;
    release channel t1;
    The result is a 1GB large backupfile.
    Now I delete the whole database and create a new one to simulate a crash.
    After this is done, I want to restore the state of the database which is frozen in the backupfile.
    Therefor I use the following rman script:
    run
    allocate channel t1 type disk format 'PATHTOBACKUPFILE';
    shutdown immediate;
    startup mount;
    restore database;
    recover database;
    alter database open resetlogs;
    release channel t1;
    Now rman tells me an error:

    RMAN-06023: Kein Backup bzw. keine Kopie der Datendatei 1 zum Wiederherstellen gefunden
    In english: No backup or copy of datafile X where found for restore.
    I think the backup/restore possibilities with rman are very complex and I don't exactly understand which is the right backup strategie. I'm not an oracle specialist. Maybe someone can give me a hint.
    My program should backup the database full, differential and incremental and also restore only by using the given backupfiles. So I want somethink like Point-In-Time recovery, but rman should use the time-point of the given backupfile. And this backupfiles are stored outside oracle, e.g. on a server or somethink like this.
    Thanks a lot for help.
    Best regards,
    Ronny

  • First full backup crashes. Help!

    I've only just installed and begun using Photoshop Elements 8. I tried to do a full catalog backup after importing some folders in the catalog, but the program crashes after I hit the 'done' button. I'm trying to backup to a dvd. This seems like a fundamental problem and I don't want to invest time in Elements if I can't reliably manage photos.
    I'm running Windows Vista.

    Hi Richard,
    This could be some intermittent issue. I would recommend you to try this again. I have used this command several times and didn't face any issues.
    1) Please try with some other DVD disk. Might be issue with this particular disk.
    2) The failure could be due to some of files being corrupted in catalog. To confirm this, please create a new catalog  with very few number of files say 5-10- files and see if Backup works for you.
    Please get back with your findings.
    Thanks,
    Sourabh

  • Multiple Time Capsule Problems - WDS, Backup Crashes Computer

    I am having TWO major faults with my new Time Capsule:
    1. Kernel failure: My machine crashes every time Time Machine tries to do an hourly backup to my Time Capsule. I get the message : "btreeswapnode: about to write corrupt node!\n"........ I have turned backup off for the moment. The Kernel error causes the gray "curtain" to drop over the screen saying that your Mac requires you to push in the power button for a restart. Certainly not what you expect from a May.
    2. Support of a WDS network: I have two brand new Airport Expresses (80211.n) that I tried to add to my Time Capsule to make a WDS network. Should be pretty straight forward. I have the latest version of Airport Utility and updated the firmware on each of the devices. I am now watching one (not both, mind you) of the Airport Expresses blink "green" and then "yellow" in 3 second intervals. It is switching between being a part of the WDS and then not being able to see the Time Capsule. I have done multiple restarts, checked configurations.
    My CONCLUSION is that the TIME CAPSULE is NOT READY for prime time.

    OK, I have been able to move forward.
    My kernel failures were happening on my MacBook Pro, but my iMac was backing up just fine.
    From the iMac I was able to connect to Time Capsule and delete the "sparsebundle" for the MBP.
    Then, I initiated a new backup of the MBP and all is well so far. The MBP backed up it's 70 G to the TC and hourly backups have proceeded from there.
    It appears that some kind of "corruption" of the sparsebundle folder on TC causes the host machine to panic.
    Don't totally understand why. I'd expect an error message, not a crater.

    My Laptop crashed. I had a full backup on Carbonite so the iTunes folder is there and downloadable.  Is there any way just to import that and have iTunes on my new computer (Windows 7) recognize it?

    Nothing gets imported.  Simply restore the ENTIRE iTunes folder to the new/restored computer.
    Download and install iTunes from Apple's website.
    The first time iTunes is launched, assuming the ENTIRE iTunes folder is restored to the correct location, it will launch and be exactly as it was prior to the comptuer issues.  If for some reason this does not work, close iTunes, hold the SHIFT key while launching iTunes and a prompt will appear to choose or create a new iTunes library.  At this point simply point iTunes to the correct location for the existing iTunes library.

    So this is a 2 part question:
    1) how to I backup the Photo Library to my new hard drive (as the last one was unrecoverable but previously backed up)
    2) how do I remove the Photo Library form my phone (preferably after backup in item 1)
    Thanks, Janis

    Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
    You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
    Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 Crashes Computer While in Photo Editor

    How can I get Photoshop Elements 12 to stop crashing when I am editing photos?  This has become a huge problem.  I even installed a new copy of the program and it still happens.  I also have had to make multiple catalogs and still have many problems with PE12, most notable being it crashes the entire computer --- causes a full shutdown and restart --- when I am editing photos.  Help!

    Uninstalling and reinstalling almost never solves these kinds of problems. Has it ever worked right? What version of OS X are you using?

    Hello!
    Could you tell us if you are talking about Photoshop 4.0 that was released in 1996, or Photoshop CS4 (PS 11), or Photoshop elements 4?
    Older version might not work if your C: drive is bigger than 1TeraByte.

    Elements 2.0 is an old version. The message may be due to the fact that your new HD is much bigger than your older one, and not due to the classical reasons:

    A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

    When I attempt a full backup through PE8, at the window where its "calculating total media size", the program always stops working,crashes and the adobe crash report window pops up. I don't have any hope adobe will read or help, so here I am. I have no missing files to reconnect. The system info shows my catalog is on my 3rd drive which is where I want it. All the actual photos are stored on my 2nd drive if that makes a diff.

    That doesn't make a difference.Please verify that the place where you are taking the backup has enough space.

  • Can I create a full backup on google drive by moving my user folders to Google Drive Folder?

    Can I create a full backup on google drive? Google suggested I simply move my folders (Pictures, Music, Downloads, Documents, etc) into the google drive folder. But these seem to be automated files involved with Mac's organization... will this create problems for my computer? Ie. if I import new photos, or download music, will my computer know where to put it if its in google drive?
    If this is a problem, how else could I possibly create a full backup of personal data on google drive (or any similar syncing service, for that matter).  iCloud is prohibitively expensive, and programs like crash plan and carbonate run so slowly and bog down my computer so much that they are not worth it. Google drive seems simplest and most competitive in price, but I am worried about moving my folders.
    Help?

    Google Drive also installs a client--a google drive folder on my hard drive that is programmed to sync changes automatically to the cloud--that allows me to drag and drop.  I suppose my original concern was about dragging files from my hard drive (such as "pictures" that would contain my iPhoto library, etc) into it.  Would that mess up Mac's internal organizational system? If I drag and drop my pictures folder, music folder, etc. into the google drive client folder in Finder, will those applications still function correctly?  Will my mac still be able to figure out where to put photos I import from my camera, etc?
    I am only as tech savvy as I have to be to survive professionally as a traveling teacher, so I am looking for something pretty straightforward that will free up some of my brain waves for other activities, rather than remembering which folders I have made changes in and need to sync.

  • PSE 7 Full Backup Error

    I upgraded from PSE 3.0 to PSE 7.0 this summer.  I converted my catalog without a problem.
    I recently tried to perform an incremental backup based on the last backup I did using PSE 3.0, but verison 7.0 says it will not recognize the old format, so I need to do a full backup first.
    Fine.  I start with the full backup which will require 26 DVDs (!?!!?).  After the 3rd DVD, the program crashed with non-specific error during the disc verification. I try to restart the backup by doing an incremental and using the last disc, but no luck.
    I figure my on choice is to start over. After the 10th DVD and many hours, the program crashed with non-specific error.
    Now it appears that I must start the full backup over again but now I've already wasted a full day and 13 DVDs with no guarentee that it won't occur again next time on disc #22 or something.
    I know that I can physically copy the files from windows onto another hard drive or DVDs, but the whole point of the full and incremental backups is preserve not just the pictures themselves, but my tags and everything else I've done in PSE.
    Is there away to continue an interrupted full backup?
    Ideas?

    For your backup needs going forward, you might consider moving away from manual backup using the PSE backup command.  Hard drives are pretty cheap these days -- you can get a 500 GB external drive from Amazon for $70.   Hard drives are a lot faster, and you can set up a standard backup program to backup up everything on your computer, not just your photos, on a nightly automated schedule.  The main problem with DVDs and PSE backup is that it is manual, and human nature being what it is, people don't do it often enough (or at all).   Also, accumulating too many incremental backups without a full backup now and then increases the likelihood that a restore will fail partially or fully.   And doing a full backup to 26 DVDs is just too painful for most people!
    I use two external hard drives, one for the nightly backups, and one that I backup to once a quarter and keep in my car ("offsite").
