Elements 10 in Win 7 hangs in memory

The product came installed on a new HP desktop.  Elements 10 wanted to do an update and I said yes.  It told me I had to close the program.  It was NOT running.  Cancelled the update and tried to run elements 10.  Nothing...no errors just nothing.  Task manager / processes showed it running so I killed it.  Then elements 10 runs but every time I close it, I must kill it in task manger to get it running again without rebooting.
Any suggestions?  There is no reinstall since it came installed with the HP desktop.  They said I must reload my PC back to factory....yeah right!  Not worth it for that.  This is my second HP with elements 10 on it and the other PC runs great.
Appreciate any ideas.

  Try making a direct shortcut for the Organizer and Editor. Make sure you have the correct file path as there is more than one exe file. You can then launch the programs directly from the desktop bypassing the welcome screen. This is generally better as the welcome screen leaves background processes running.
On Windows, Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
Then click the browse button and navigate to:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Elements 10 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
Then click Next; then click Finish
  N.B. on 64 bit systems navigate to Program Files (x86)
　   Then make a direct shortcut for the Editor in a similar manner.
On Windows, Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
Then click the browse button and navigate to:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
Then click Next; then click Finish
