Elements 10 installation has crashed PC and won't start up
I've bought a new copy of Photoshop Elements 10, which I tried to install for the first time today. The PC is Vista 32 bit, over 800GB free hard drive, 1GB video card and 2GB RAM. All legit.
After the installation the PC asked me to re-start, which I did. It froze on shut-down.
Now the PC will NOT start up at all. I've tried a different video card and a different hard drive.
Advice please - I can't understand why the installation has caused the PC not to start, even to get the the Boot screen. It was working fine until the software was installed.
I'd love to ... but the PC won't even start. The hard drive sounds like it's starting but nothing is showing on the video screen.
I'm getting "No Video input" from the monitor after the install.
I've changed the video card and it's the same problem.

If you have a spare lead then use it just to be sure you don't spend out on anything expensive. Software incidentally will not cause a hardware failure. However if the graphics driver on your card attept to use an openGL address which is a direct hardware switch this can be a simple cause but CUDA has several safeguards in place for this on Nvidia cards. The only problem that would come to my attention if asked is, "was it overclocked then you could run a high probability of a GRam error which usually defaults you back to a VGA display with 256 colours. Your Bios may register your DDR ram but does it do a full memory test on boot or a quick boot bypassing the Bios backup process altogether. I would rather take my time booting in my PC, then once it is booted I can have it running more efficiently and have a longer life out of the CPU and MB components than an overclocked machine. This is not being critical just observant of all the errors I have had to sort out over the years, from blown boards and CPU's to blown Raid systems because everything has to run faster than it was truly designed to. I do hope it is something as simple as a lead but I hope I have given you some ideas on what to look out for.

Help! My G5 has crashed & now it won't start up!
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips as I'm at a complete loss!
My G5 has been crashing regularly for the last couple of months. I can use it for hours and it's ok and then it'll crash suddenly and will continue to do so several times. It was crashing in several ways, sometimes the computer would just freeze & the mouse etc wouldn't work. Other times the screen would fade out and a message would appear in the centre of the screen telling me to restart. Other times it would fade out and writing would appear all down the screen (code).
I've been unsure what to do about this anyway, it crashed no matter what I was doing so it wasn't a particular programme (I know firefox can cause this but I stopped using it and the crashing continued!).
*Anyway, it crashed again last night and now it doesn't start back up!* When I press the power button it does start but the screen doesn't come on and the computer doesn't sound like it is starting up properly. It isn't getting to the stage where I can open the disk drive so I can't put the startup CD in.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do? I'm by no means a computer expert so please keep it simple!
Many thanks,
HelenIf, the next time you try to start the computer, you hold down BOTH the mouse button AND the Option key a couple of things should happen (and this is all from my limited knowledge, trying this myself)--the CD ROM drawer will pop out (release the mouse now), and a screen should come up that gives you the option of booting from either the hard disk, or the CD ROM, but the CD ROM won't yet be displayed.
Put your operating system disk in and manually close the drawer.
Wait a minute and then click on the refresh icon.
The CD ROM should now be displayed.
Click on that icon.
The next screen, or folder, should have a "Hardeware test" button on it, either quick or extended.
Choose which on you'd like to run (I recommend the extended check as it found a problem with mine that the quick test did not!)You can watch the progress right on the folder, and the report may give you an idea of what might be wrong.
To continue, if you like, under one of the items on the task bar is a "Disk Utility" (I forget which button it's under) open this.
Then, in order, run the Disk Verify, then the Disk repair. That may solve all your problems-unless, of course, like me, your hard drive is fried! Mine's sitting on the desk now waiting for replacement! -
Emac has no power and won't start up
I have an Emac that one morning just didn't wnat to start up any more. The LED does not light up, there is no noise, no nothing. I can neither open the CD/DVD tray. I have made sure x numbers of times that the cord is not loose and that the surge protector-powerstrtip has power. Is there anything I can do? Is this possibly a sign that the backup battery is dead? I'll be grateful for any help I can get.
Bernhard,
I've had the same thing happen to me with a TV set, so you're hardly alone in that sinking feeling of looking like an idiot in front of the desk person at a repair shop. The more energy-efficient a power supply is, the more sensitive it seems to be towards glitches in the voltage and/or frequency. In this case, a momentary power outage --- no more than a second or two --- is the likely culprit.
While your surge protector is likely not involved in this after all, if it's a standard MOSFET-based design and more than a few years old, go ahead and replace it anyway. MOSFET designs have a nasty habit of degrading over time and exposure to voltage spikes, losing any actual effectiveness while continuing to dispaly all's well on status LEDs.
A better choise than a surge protector is an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) such as the ones from APC. A good rule of thumb in buying a UPS is: buy as much protection as you can afford, in terms of higher energy rating and battery capacity. You can spend anyting from $40 to $200 and up. APC models rated at 750mA and up include outlets to protect a cable line, which is great protection from lightening spikes traveling down the cable line (something I discovered the hard way a couple of years back when a hit directly on the transformer at the botom of my driveway took out several TVs and VCRs). Even the low-end 350mA UPS models, through, provide great protection against momentary power outages, and local computer stores arounf here frequently use the low-end UPS models as loss-leaders on sales, which is a good time to pick up one or more (the $40 models are often on sale for $30 with sometimes an additional rebate to $20 net). Note that OS X 10.3.3 and later have support built-in to System Preferences/ Energy Saver to communicaye with a UPS over a USB line to allow graceful shutdown in cases where the power is out for more than a short time. Make sure the UPS USB line plugs directly into the Mac and not through a USB hub to avoid any potential communications glitches durting a power glitch. -

Iphone 5 has shut down and won't start up again
hey,
my iphone 5 was charging while i was sleeping. I wanted to see what time it was but he just does nothing. There us a black screen (no charging icon). My power button is broken so a reset is not possible. If i connect it via itunes on my mac he can't find him. Help me!!!!Hello esterke,
As I understand it you are not able to turn your phone on, and the power button doesn't work so you cannot turn it on that way. You may be able to get it back on by putting it into Recovery Mode, which only requires the USB connection and a working Home button.
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If not your phone may need service:

G70-246US Laptop has black screen and won't start
Hi Everyone,
I have an HP G70-246US laptop. I received an errot that the computer could not find any Boot Disks. I turned it off and rebooted the computer and it would not come back on. I see nothing but a black screen. The power button light comes on but the hard drive light does not.
There is no sound of system startup, none of the f1, options work. The power button and the wireless button are lit and the dvd player allows me to put a cd in and eject it but nothing works.
I took the hd out and put it back in to make sure it was connected securely and still nothing. I am trying to get an idea of what needs to be pinpointed before I purchase a new hard drive.
Unfortunately, I am over my one year warranty time period. I really need to figure out a resolution soon as I design websites and without my computer, I can't finish my work.
Any help is greatly, greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance. With the hdd out can you access the BIOS by tapping the F10 key after powering on? If so that would pretty well point to the hdd causing the problems. Your machine came with a 160Gb SATA hdd. If you will be using your Recovery Disks to reinstall you need at least that large to use them, can be larger but no smaller.
******Clicking the Thumbs-Up button is a way to say -Thanks!.******

I purchased 2 iPhone 5's the first day they came out. Black 64gb for myself and white 32gb for my wife. She is having somewhat the same issues as you have. Wifi is weak and keeps dropping the signal, and also her phone almost never has LTE. And we are in a very strong Verizon LTE area in north Los Angeles county. My phone has never had any signal issues, wifi or LTE. I have been researching the issue to no avail. I though maybe the white with the brushed alluminum may cause signal issues, but haven't found anything on that and posts about the black one haven't problems blew that theory up.
I have also changed the SIM card and the phone itself and still the same problem. I saw a post about someone getting their phone swapped out and the apple rep told him not to restore the phone, but to just set it up as new. I have yet to try it, gonna try this weekend.. But it makes sense! I, like you have 6 apple devices (2 iPhone 5's, 2 iPhone 4's apple tv3, and the ipad3) and have no issues running all my devices via router.
So I am thinking about the history of the restores and backups and my wife is the only one that went from the 4 to the 5.. Every other device was setup as new. So my theory is that he iphone 5 has issues when you restore from previous backups.. Maybe something a little different from the backups of the previous models create issues in the iPhone 5's?
Like I said, I'm going to give it a shot this weekend and see what happens. If you get a chance to try this before, please let me know if it works and if I try before you I will update you.
Good luck and hopefully we can get these wonderful phones working like they should!

my MacBook Pro is crashing and Mac OS stops working sometimes so I have to restart it. And sometimes it stays on the first white-ish screen with the Apple and won't start further.
What to do?
Does that mean that the is the end of my Mac Book 5bought in the summer of 2009) ? Or is there someting to do to fix it?
Thanks

How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update. -

Adobe Flash Player Installer gets stuck "downloading" and won't proceed
I'm on Mac OSX 10.10.1, using Safari and Chrome as browsers. I recently upgraded to Yosemite and since then have gotten error messages that I don't have Flash installed. When I download the Installer, it gets stuck and won't move past "30%" downloaded. I've left it for hours, and it is still at 30 when I return. Is there a permissions issue that I could play with to allow it to continue installing? Any suggestions for what to try to get this installed?
I've been able to download the installer itself, but the problem comes after I double-click "Install Adobe Flash Player." See screenshot below.
This is where it gets stuck:Use the offline installer http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player_osx.dmg

How can I get my wireless keyboard battery access to open. It's like the bloody thing has seized up and won't open? Tried the coin...nope. Tried a screw driver...nope! Even tried WD-40 - nope! Or does this mean it's now in the boat anchor pile!
They are designed for coins... is this your first time changing the battery? Make sure you are twisting in the right direction and make sure you are pushing down on it and applying pressure at the same time you turn.

my wifi has an x and won't connect
If it don't take your password, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
