Elements 10 - Organizer - Show on Map Missing?

Just upgraded to Elements 10, and unlike Elements 9, I cannot seem to be able to "Show on Map" any photo's.
Has this been removed, or is there some hidden option I have missed and need to turn on?

Well this just stinks.  I also recently upgraded to elements 10 and was trying to geotag some photos from a few recent trips.
I wouldn't have bothered with the upgrade to 10 if I had known that geotagging was being dropped.  The Yahoo maps interface was, quite frankly, terrible.  However, it at least allowed me to location tag without having to go to an external application.

  • Elements Organizer shows different timestamps in JPEG and NEF files of the same photo

    Hi,
I generally use the option of my Nikon D5000 to store pictures in NEF and JPEG format. While both files show the same time stamp under properties - as one may expect (click on a photo, press right mouse button, last entry of context menu "show properties"), Photoshop Elements Organizer 9 shows different time stamps (when option "details" is chosen in menu "view"). The NEF-file always has a time stap which is exactly two hours later than the time stamp of the corresponding JPEG-file and which - as mentioned - does not correspond to the time stamp stored within the piuctures properties entries. Does anybody has an idea how to change this? Or might this be a bug of the software?
    Thanks

Yes.  Create a smart album with the criteria Photo is RAW:
Then you can select all of the photos in the smart album and use the Events ➙ Create Event menu option to move all of the RAW photos into a new event.

The Maps feature of Photoshop Elements 9 and earlier was based on a now discontinued Yahoo! maps feature. Due to Yahoo! no longer supporting this technology the feature is no longer able to work in Photoshop Elements. More information is available here:

First deactivate the product(s) and then uninstall it from the machine using the procedure specifically for your OS.  If in Windows and I suspect it is then uninstall from the Control Panel.
To deactivate the product you need to go Editor and then:
    Help >> Deactivate
Please also make sure that you have your original CDs and /or DVDs handy including the necessary serial number as you will need them to install the product(s) again.
After uninstalling the products, you need to restart the machine before you start to install again.
You have created the backups of your sentimental photos, right?  You need to just in case the machine causes more problems down the line.

  • FAQ: My files are missing from Elements Organizer, or How to reconnect your images?

    What is Elements Organizer?
The Elements Organizer can be used to arrange, codify, systemize, group, and classify your media. When you import your images and video into the Orgnizer, you are adding information about your files to a catalog. Your files remain on your hard drive where they were, unless you are importing them from a camera, in which case the files are copied to your hard drive to a location of your choosing.
What is an Elements Organizer catalog?
The catalog is a database that stores information about the files you've imported into Elements Organizer. When importing a file, the first thing Organizer does is collect the file's name and location on the hard drive. If the file has any attached compatible metadata, such as keyword tags, these are imported as well. You can use multiple catalogs and yourr catalogs can be carried forward from version to version.
Why does Elements Organizer say my files are missing?
Since the catalog database only stores information about your file, and not the file itself, if any of that information is changed outside of Elements Organizer, the connection to the file is lost. There are three ways this can happen: the file name is changed, the file location is changed, or the file has been deleted. If you need to rename, move, or delete a file, you can do so within the Elements Organizer, and then the connection is not lost.
    What is Reconnecting?
When a file has been renamed, moved, or deleted, the catalog database needs to be updated with that new information. The Reconnection process allows you to point out a file's new name, it's new location, or to delete the database entry on your file if the file no longer exists on your hard drive.

Anything besides reconnecting all the files, such as switching the drive letter  (if that is even possible)?
The easiest way to fix this is to change the drive letter. Here are instructions for Windows 7: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/ht/change-drive-letters-windows-7.htm
To prevent this from happening again, you can change the drive to some very high letter, like X:, and then it should remain constant. In Lightroom, right-click on the top level folder ,and select Find Missing Folder, and then point it to your X: drive.
I know I can "Import---Add to catalog"  all the photos from my external hard drive back into the catalog but I do have a question:
I won't address your question specifically, since re-importing is a very bad idea. A very bad idea. You will lose information that is not in the sidecar files, such as collection members, edit history, flags, virtual copies, stacks and a few other things. Just don't go there. Change the drive letters, as I explained.

  • Elements Organizer does not install when reinstalling PSE10

I have a problem that I cannot seem to resolve. Previously Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 had been running flawlessly on my computer and was easily opened by clicking the desktop icon which had a "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 10 Organizer\Photoshop Elements 10.0.exe" target. After uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop Elements 10, when I click on the Desktop icon to start the application, I get a dialog box that says "The item 'Photoshop Elements 10.0.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved so this shortcut will no longer work properly". If I right click the Photoshop Elements 10 desktop icon and check properties, the Target says "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 10 Organizer\Photoshop Elements 10.0.exe". When I open Explorer and navigate to where the target says the application file should be, the "Elements 10 Organizer" directory does not exist. The only directory that does exist is the "Photoshop Elements 10" directory and it contains the 'PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe'. Yes if I click on that file the Editor opens, however when I try to load the Organizer workspace once the editor is open, it does not load because the entire folder and application is missing. I even tried searching the entire C-Drive to find the Photoshop Elements 10.0.exe file but it was nowhere to be found.
To be specific, I had PSE8, PSE9, and PSE10 installed on my 64-bit Windows 7 Professional w/SP1 computer. I decided to uninstall PSE8 & 9 because I had just purchased PSE12 and wanted to make room for the PSE12 installation. When I tried to first uninstall PSE8, the uninstaller stopped with the warning that PSE8 was installed in the same directory as PSE10. The uninstall then terminated when I clicked on OK. Next tried to uninstall PSE9 and received the same warning and uninstaller termination. The same thing happened when I tried to uninstall PSE10. Faced with the situation that all three products were installed in the same directory and would not uninstall individually, I found it necessary to uninstall all three applications manually according to the directions on the Adobe's knowledgebase.
To uninstall PSE8, PSE9, & PSE10, first thing I did was create a system restore point which is something I always do just in case something goes wrong. Then starting with PSE8, I first printed out the Photoshop Elements Help "Manually remove Photoshop Elements 8 | Windows that I found at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/826/cpsid_82673.html. Subsequently I printed out the directions for each product, PSE8, PSE9, and PSE10, are all on the Adobe website. Next I followed the directions contained in each article except for running the product uninstaller as I mentioned above and removed all three applications then rebooted my machine.
Next I reinstalled PSE10 and tried to open it only to find that it did not fully install especially the Elements Organizer. As mentioned you can open the Editor by going directly to the executable file however you cannot access the Organizer because it did not install and cannot be found anywhere on the computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled PSE10 five time now each time using the product Uninstaller plus the "Manually remove PSE10" directions and I still cannot get the Elements Organizer to install.
My question is does Adobe have a utility that can be run after manually installing a specific product that would find registry entries that were not removed after completing the manual removal process? The problem I see is the manual removal process which shows possible registry entries to remove manually is built on the assumption that you were able to run the Uninstaller which is not the case with my problem.
Secondly does anyone have any suggestions on how to install both the PSE10 Organizer and Editor?

I believe I found a solution but I need help in changing some of the parameters to reflect for a United States program install.
If you go to "Elements 10 Organizer is not installed [SOLUTION]" at http://forums.adobe.com/message/4745941 you will note the Poster says it is possible to force the install of Elements Organizer 10 by using the command line:
    msiexec /i "E:\Adobe Photoshop Elements 10\ElementsOrganizer\Elements 10 Organizer.msi" TRANSFORMS=1031.mst ELEMENTS_DE_DE=1 ORGANIZER_DE_DE=1 STARTWATCHSERVICE=1 SUPPRESSREBOOT=0 NOT_STANDALONE=1 /l*v "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\OrganizerInstall.log".
I found that the above command line input does in fact start the setup for the PSE10 "Elements Organizer" Installer except it is in a language other than English.
Is there anyone familiar enough with coding and command line prompts to change whatever paramenters are necessary to have the installer run in English.
Hopefully there are some Adobe Staff monitoring this message that can answer the question for me.

  • Background Task on Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements Organizer "hangs"

I recently upgraded my software from Elements 10 to Elements 12 and had a bit of trouble.  Apparently both 10 and 12 have a way of launching an executable in the background which tends to get "stuck" on my system.  I believe the problem may be related to the network configuration and software mix I live with, but I need to confirm my suspecions and find a way to control the problem.  Here is what I know... I have always experienced a lot of problems using Elements with my NAS device which is a 1TB usb 2.0 connected disk system attached to my Linksys  E3000 Router.  When I got the router, the BIOS software did not correctly support NTFS file systems, but subsequent updates eventually made this possible if you formatted the removable drive on a system in NTFS, you could then hang it on the router and "see" the contents, serve them via Windows Media Player, or iTunes, etc., etc. from a computer atteched to the network, or via wirless directly off the router.  I archived all my photos out on this file system and have successfully indexed it for use with Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements Organizer, but...  When I went to install Elements 12 software I tried to install it without first removing Elements 10, and on a system which had run Elements 10 since the last full reoboot.  During the install of 12 under "shared services install" the installation process "Hung" on a background task with a name like "AdobeElementsAnalyzer.exe" which only shows up in Windows 7 task manager as a running process, not as a full program, but because the file was locked by the system, the install hung.  I eventually figured out that I needed to start the install of Elements 12 software immediately after having rebooted so that this program was not present in the background, and succeeded in completing an install of Elements 12 on my Windows 7 X64 system.  This system required a "special" software download for Premiere Elements, but not for Photoshop Elements which is only apparently avaliable under 32bit emulation mode.  I finally got the "shared components" portion of the X64 Premiere Elements to complete an install, and then set about verifying the onversion/upgrade of the indexes to my photos and video stored out on the NAS.  The same rogue task which prevented me from doing the install showed up agian, taking all the system resources away from my dual processor Intel chip and refusing to let go.   I was forced to terminate it from the task manager.  I strongly suspect that my "issues" are in part due to the extrordinary network latency imposed by the drive connection I'm using to index my photos and videos, and I'm looking for a better approach to using the editors against my master catalog of files, as well as figruing out just what I need to do to insure that all the files I have stored on the drive are accessible by the organizer when I need to pull a copy to work on.
A complication is that I have two "legacy" Windows XP systems on my network, a reasonably fast Windows Vista Business desktop, and the Windows 7 X64 processor system which is the most powerful system I have.  The Windows file security enhancements to NTFS changed from XP, to Vista, to Windows 7, so files which get saved to the NAS disk inherit a variety of different levels of security under windows.  I have occasionally gone to one of my old XP boxes and "wiped" the security settings by resetting everything via Windows XP.  Because the NAS is so slow, this process can take several hours and must not be interrupted by attempts to do anything affecting the NAS by any of my other networked computers.  To avoid problems with my photo archive, it makes sense to me to do all my editing on copies which have been extracted from the NAS archive and stored on the C: drive (boot drive) of my Win X64 system.
What I seriously need to know is this:  When/If I define a "watched" portion of my file system, rather than taking the time to manually import every little change to my photo archives, can I expect the Photoshop Elements Organizer to work properly as long as everything stored on the NAS is stored via the same system which runs Elements with the same active "user" in control so that all the windows 7 file security settings putting stuff on the mapped NAS drive remain properly secured under Win 7 X64?  Frankly I don't care if the files appear "read only" to every other system and identity on my network, but I do need to be able to "see" them.  I have been able to view slide shows and movies stored on the NAS via both my networked iPad, my Apple TV, and using Samsung's funky android and Windows compatible software.  Frankly, I doubt that Microsoft or Apple has full understanding and control of the environment where there is no host "server" other than the eprom based stuff my Linksys E3000 loads to emulate early Windows Media Management architecture, but I mange to get it to work as long as I don't try anything sophisticated with the file permissions.   As a fall back, can I expect individual "imported" bits out on the NAS to remain stable if indexed and used only by the Elements Organizer running on my Win 7 X64 system?
I am seriously considering converting an old WinXP desktop into a UNIX box which could be configured as a "Server" for everything stored on the NAS and be done with my problems in return for the power required to run the server all the time so stuff is there when I need it.  Any recommendations?

Adobe hasn't said whether it officially supports PSE 7 on Windows 7.  But reports are starting to trickle in that PSE 7 works fine on Windows 7 for most people, though a couple people have reported crashes. My PSE 7 seems to work fine, though I primarily use PSE 8 now.  This is all very preliminary, and we'll learn more as more people post here.

  • How can I select multiple people when filtering media using Photoshop Premier Elements Organizer 11?

I noticed that in using Photoshop Premier Elements Organizer V10, I was able to select more than a single person when filtering media. For example, I may want to find all of my photos that have me with my cousin, John as well as my friend Norm in them.   With Photoshop Priemier Elements Organizer 11, I can only filter on a single person or filter on a group of individuals.  Using a group does not always match the specific filter that I am looking for.  Was this an oversight in the new version?
(By the way, this feature is also missing with "Places" as well...  For example, I would like to be able to select Austria, Switzerland, and Germany media when adding an Event for my "Trip to the Alps".  I can only select one country at a time.)
Any suggestions?  Can we get this feature back?

Have you opened up the Filter menu, which opens along the top of the Organizer's Media Browser?
With it, you simply check the filters you want to apply, and the Media Browser will show you all media clips to which those filters applies.

  • Elements organizer versus Picassa 3

I used both elements organizer, and picassa 3 (for face recognition).  Incidentally, i found picassa is so much faster when showing the full page image.  In elements it takes about a 1-2 second delay to go from thumnail pixalated image to full image, in picassa this is almost instant, and once you see it, it stays clear.  in PE, each time you leave the image, it needs to be reloaded

I just moved my pc to Windows 7 64 bit from VISTA 64 (fresh install, not upgrade) and have been through a challenging reinstall of APE 8 due to a change in a hard drive mapping. I tried to correct by renaming the drive with the same location it had before, but APE was smart enough to recognize the move and kept moving the default search location to the wrong place. All I really needed was an option to rename the drive look at, but it does not exist in APE. Have even tried using SQLite to edit the database (copy) to no avail (I'm not a data jock).
Have also experienced multiple crashes of APE8 that seem to occur whenever you try to make changes to a large number of files (for instance, updating thumbnails for mov files) in batch mode. This is with a pristine install, with all updates made to hardware, software, etc.
As a result of this process, I am revisiting picasa. If I am going to have to work through a lot of technical issues, thinking I would rather do it with something that is free and has more transparency into how it works.
Will add that I have been a huge Adobe supporter for a long time (15 years) for photo and video, including the "pro" versions when I can afford them, but as the pricing has jumped a lot over the past couple of years for upgrades without any real change in the number of headaches with each release and a failure to really address bugs (consistent issue across products),  I suspect Picasa will be one of many forays into new products from other vendors.

  • Elements Organizer (version 9) - no thumbnails

    Hi,
I recently bought Photoshop Elements 9 and now try to organize my photos using Elements Organizer. My photos include jpegs as well as raw files (Canon S60, Nikon d5000). However, the Organizer behaves more than strange: Most times, thumbnails are shown only for a small part of the photos (even after hours of thumbnail creation) - for jpegs more often than for raw files. If the thumbnail of a photo was shown during the last session this does not mean that it will also be shown after a restart of the Organizer software as well. Sometimes thumbnails are shown and Elements Organizer then starts to show the status message that thumbnails are now being created - as a result existing thumbnails then disappear. Creating a missing thumbnail of a photo via context menu (right mouse buttom) allmost never work (I get the respective status message but never the resulting thumbnail).
The OS is Windows XP (all servicepacks, updates), I also installed all updates for Photoshop Elements via its update procedure. Photos are stored on a NAS (which should not be a problem), ca. 80 GB of data (Windows Explorer counts 28000 files, Elements Organizer counts 120000 elements in the status bar).
Does anybody face the same/ similar problems or has an idea of what goes wrong?
Thanks a lot for any help...

I finally found the answer by myself - maybe somebody is interested. Search for the file "thumb.5.cache" and rename or delete it. After starting the Organizer all thumbnails were recreated (independent of the format).

  • More mts file woes in Elements Organizer

    Howdy folks,
I'm a longtime Elements user, and I upgraded to v12 recently.  I have some new videos to import from my Canon Vixia HF M52, which get written by the camera in mts format.
I have no problem importing them, but in the Organizer, they show up as generic movie files and I can't play them from within Organizer.  It's the exact same thing that was reported at the start of this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5718599
I've tried everything mentioned in that thread, but to no avail.
I've unistalled, downloaded fresh, and installed Quicktime, so I have 7.7.4 (1680.86) installed.
Though I've looked all around, I can't find any other apps or utilities that may have conflicting drivers/codecs.
I've started new PrE projects with these mts clips and they display just fine.  The main problem is I can't see a thumbnail or play them from the Organizer.  When I had Elements 11, I was able to preview them in Organizer.  Many mts files that I had imported when I was running Elements Organizer 11 still have the thumbnail, but now they don't play now but used to (and some are missing the thumbnail). "Update Thumbnail" doesn't do anything.
The machines powerful enough, Win8 64bit running on an Intel Core i5 with 16GB RAM and two big hard disks, plenty of room on them.  Video is the onboard Intel HD Graphics 2500.
This problem is just with the Organizer, I realize, but being able to play the clips from within Organizer is very, very convenient, a bit more than a nice-to-have, especially if worked with the previous version.
Any direction would be helpful, thanks in advance.

    Hi ATR,
Thanks for providing a pointer to something to try.  Here's what I did:
Using one of those files as a test, I deleted the file from the catalog (but not the hard disk, of course)
In Windows Explorer, I changed the filename extension to one of the ones suggested
Back in Organizers, I did an "Import from Files and Folders"
In the file browsing window, I could see the file, and in most cases (in other words, with most of those filename extensions applied), I was able to preview the clip in the file browsing window
Once the file was imported, I got the same behavior in the Elements Organizer, no change from original.
This was true for all the extensions you suggested
Another thing I tried was to import the file with the avi extension, then create a new project in Premiere Elements and try to import that file from the Organizer. It showed up with a yellow upsidedown triangle saying that this file is not supported.  But if I went through the same routing with the file renamed as m2t, it would import into a PrE project, but no sound. And again, if I did all the same but with the original mts extension, it imported as expected, sound and all.
There must be a codec here somewhere. After all, the clip is definitely playing, but just not in Organizer!
