Elements 10 strobe effect, ultimate settings

Hi all, Elements 10 user here and I am trying to get the best out of my strobe effect but often I get into lots of fumbling and a lot of work. Here's my question.
I am creating a classic dark strobe light effect (or trying to I should say), by using the strobe color as black. I have just normal filming a scene, but I plan to move around a bit. So I thought I would try to make the black color flash at a good interval. It's really working not too bad, but I can never get it to really truly look like a strobe scene that you would have say... at a dance hall disco or something...
Does anyone know what ultimate settings for the strobe would be to achieve this effect? I got it at a good flashing rate as black color, but I somehow think this could look better.

Re Compatibility: Given I was having problems I hunted about and found:
Do right-click on PSE (10) short-cut; select: Properties > Compatibility > Compatibility mode etc. It shows the following suggestion:
“If you have problems with this program and it worked correctly on an earlier version of Windows,
select the compatibility mode that matches that earlier version.”
As it happened mine was set for XP etc. not having been touched since I upgraded from PSE 9 and XP.
I was under the impression the message would be updated automatically and since my PSE 9 had been running perfectly well for quite a while then XP etc. must be appropriate. OK? (Ha!)
‘Mine not to reason why ...etc’. Hence the comment in my first post to the Forum.
I have since tried all the compatibility options around Windows 7 etc. without any effect. So that lead was totally spurious.
I will try your suggestion of the trial version and let you know how it goes.

Strange "strobe" effect when doing slow motion

hi
after using fcp for a year now, i strangly encountered a problem in a video i need to deliver in 2 days.
whenever i did a 50% slow motion i get a strange "strobe" effect. when the frame is more or less static then you wont be able to see it but when the camera pans or the object in the frame moves it is very disturbing.
this is only noticable when viewed on a tv set, not on my display.
i thought it was in the encoding so i did the whole "export using QT" again, this time making sure its 2 pass VBR 6.8 to 8 mbps. still there.
i am working on a Pal system without a monitor so i burned the video onto a dvd using dvdsp (as usual) and then played it in a pal dvd player and tv but this strobe thing is still there.
b.t.w the interlace option on the "export using QT" was set as auto, the same as always.
i didnt do anything different this time but still i get that problem. what could it be ? all the settings in fcp settings are set to 100% quality and the video is fully rendered.

b.t.w - im editing DV PAL.
i dont have motion so i'm stuck to fcp.

Unwanted strobe effect showing on rendered clips - Adobe CC 2014

I'll try and describe the issue as best as possible - I haven't been able to find any similar issues by googling or on forums.
As a bit of information about the project it's adobe CC 2014 with a mix of c100, c300, Gopro and various other footage so a mix of .MTS, .MXS and Mp4 files. All stored and edited from external hardrive via USB 3.
I started out by having red frames appear when I scrubbed through footage on the timeline, and then they appeared in the actual exported file - which from googling seemed to an issue with media encoder not being able to render the source clip properly.
As part of the fix which seemed to work to get rid of the red frames I moved the media cache files from their default location users>library>applicationsupoprt>adobe>common to a render folder which I created on the external hardrive. To be specific I manually deleted media cache and media cache files then created the folder on the external drive and directed adobe to put the files there. That got rid of the red frames but a few days and a different project later I started getting a strobe like effect where every other frame on a few (seemingly random) clips is black, except for the top left corner which shows the image in part. When the footage is unrendered (red on timeline) it plays back fine. When it's rendered the strobe effect happens everytime on playback and with export. All clips it happens to are c300 clips, but there are plenty of c300 clips in the timeline it doesn't happen to. All clips have the same effects on them.
I've made all clips offline, and reconnected media. I've uninstalled and reinstalled adobe CC desktop and all apps about 3 times and used Adobe cleaner to get rid of files then reinstalled. Nothing seems to work. I have noticed that even though the media cache files are redirected to the external drive now, it still creates a media cache folder in the default location and puts some render files there. Perhaps it's something to do with these duplicate render files???
Hope that makes some sense.
Anyone else had this happen?
Any help/advice would be much appreciated. It's for a TVC and needs to be delivered next week.

Thanks Simon, I think you're right.
I seem to have narowed ig down to being a combination of the 'warp stabilisation' effect plus a vignette (made from black video and 'circle' effect).
Whenever these effects are both on, and the clips are rendered I get the strobe effect, but if one or the other is off I don't anymore.
At least I can export the edit with warp stabilisation effect, and then add the vignette to the exported clip - not ideal but a work around.
Hope it get's fixed soon.

Horizontal line using strobe effect

Is there a way to stop the slow horizontal line movement using strobe effect. There is a slow horizontal line movement upward as the effect is blinking. Similar to how computer screens look when there in a video shot.

Sorry about the confusion. I was not sure what to call the "rolling sync bar", but that is what is showing up when I add the strobe EFX. And no...I do not want it to appear. I have set the strobe efx to show the under lying layer and I have also taken the Strobe efx off and set keyframes on the above layer to cut the opacity from 0 to 100 every 4 frames as to produce the same strobe efx. Both ways produce the unwanted rolling sync bar. I tried some bezier curve options on the keyframes, but no help...or at least I have not yet hit the correct combination.

When I view or upload files (such as on You Tube) there is no longer normal image movement. All action has a "strobe" effect as in slow motion, but audio seems normal. Is this a plug-in problem?

All of a sudden when I view a file that's been downloaded, or viewed on line, whether in Windows Media, or on You Tube on line site, or Power DVD Play program, the image appears as if it was in a slow motion "strobe" effect, while the audio sounds consistent, (barring the frequent stalls). If I burn a DVD, it has the slow motion strobe effect burnt into the disc as well & is difficult to view on a DVD player. Is this a plug-in problem that has suddenly manifested, and is there a way of getting the system back to it's normal operation??

Try disabling all add-ons (that's extensions, plugins and themes, go into ''Tools > Add-ons'') except for Flash and see if the problem persists. If they don't, enable one add-on at a time until you find the problem. If they do, try a new [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles Firefox profile] and see if it has the same issues. If it does (make sure other plugins aren't enabled), you need to contact Adobe for support on their Flash plugin ([https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ updating] it will be the first thing they tell you to do). If it doesn't, please tell me.

FCP 7 won't let me save changes to effect default settings

Hey all - using FCP 7,0,3 and it will let me make a change to an individual effects default settings, but it won't let me save a new default - i.e.; I'm trying to change the length of disolves because I don't want full 1 second transitions, ever. I can add the transition and change that one, but FCP doesn't remember this preference and makes me do it all over again whenever I use the transition. My FCP is very buggy!

Are you using the correct method to make a new default transition?
If, for example, you want to make a 10 frame dissolve as your default, 1st place a default dissolve on the timeline:
Then change it to 10 frames duration:
Then click on that dissolve in the timeline to select it, and drag it to the FCP browser:
And let go. Then Control-click on the effect in the browser and from the drop down menu choose "Set Default Transition"
Once you have done that, your 10 frame dissolve will the effect applied when you apply the default transition.

Strobe effect while capturing

Is it normal to have the footage in the capture window to have a strobe effect while capturing?
I'm using a Sony DSR PD-150 camera with final cut 5.1 OS 10.4.8

If you tape was recorded in LP instead of SP (as some cameras do) you will get the strobe effect on digitize even though it looks fine in your camera. If that's the case you will need to dub to another tape at the correct speed. You'll lose a generation, but I believe that's the only solution to this particular problem.
Of course the kind people on the forum know much more than I.

After Effects Color Settings

Hello Everyone.
I noticed Inside File-Project Settings- Color Settings, My working space is set to None. Is this color setting works like the Photoshop, that you have either Adobe RGB 1998, or ProPhoto RGB ?
Also In The Dept, It is set to 8 bit.
My Images, are Originally Raw Shots 16 bit and later saved as a .Tiff format. and their color setting is Adobe RGB 1998, Or ProPhoto RGB. 16 bit and some In 8 bit , and some of my Images
Have been saved for the web are sRGB, 8 bit. And my Videos are from Canon 5D, and they are 1920 by 1080 24 fps. I also have many old Shots from my Canon GL1, that are "NTSC not HD".
But I am not sure about this After Effects Color Settings.. Is this color setting has to match the PhotoShop Color setting ?

Photoshop elements 6 - some effects stopped working - Mac

Photoshop Elements 6 - Mac - some of the effects that have always worked have stopped working. i get a message that "command ..... is not currently available"
This program was purchased online ... I have no discs to install it.
From these forums, I got the idea of going to my account on Adobe and checking history and there I found the orig download so I downloaded it again thinking this would replace the current program and possibly give me back all the effects. From here on the story gets murky; It seemed to download but I wound up with icons all over the place and they all still leave me with part of my effects not working.
I talked with technical support and they were worse than no help. After holding for 27 minutes I got a man who I could not understand. English is obviously not his first language. I don't think he was understanding me too well either and I finally gave up to try figuring it out on my own. So far I am just confusing myself more.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Do not assume I know what I am doing at all.

I don't know what an administrative account means. I do not have any antivirus software on my Mac unless they sent it with some..
My computer is at home and is not attached to any other computer if that helps.
I bought the software from adobe online 2 years ago... Yesterday I went to the support page at adobe and went into my account and looked at "history" and saw this Akamai Download Manager
1.27 GB
listed as the software I had bought so I downloaded it... hoping that would somehow correct my problem. I don't know if that made sense and I may not have downloaded it correctly.
Do you think it might help to put all my present PSE6 things in the trash and THEN try the download again??

Problem linking a video clip to a 3D element in After effects

Good morning
In the following picture from my project I want to link the fire to the basin in front of the statue. The camera pans up when approaching the statue and at this moment my fire flies up!!!
The temple is a unique group I built in Element 3D . The fire consists of three layers of a clip from Videocopilot action essentials 2.
At first I thought of tracking the clip or the temple, but for the clip it's impossible as its background is black and Mocha doesn't load the Temple Element layer. AE gives me the only Mocha tracker as an option for tracking here but doesn't seem to recognize the 3D group element.
I thought of creating a group null in Element 3D but I can't find the resulting null in the workspace...It's lost somewhere into space!
So I must be very dumb but I do not see how to solve my problem. I've checked different tutorials and experienced some of the proposed solutions without success.
Could anyone suggest a solution or explain me which of the above could do and how?

If you want to track multiple layers or layers with an effect you must first pre-compose them. If you want to use Mocha then you have to Pre-render them. If you have a camera move you can use expressions to analyze the move but since we know very little about your composition I can't begin to suggest what you should be doing. Here's how to easily tell us all about your comp. Select all of the layers in the time line that are important to the shot. Press the "u" key twice. This will reveal all modified properties. If an effect is applied to a layer that may be causing problems then make sure the Effects Control Panel is visible for that layer or layers. Now take a screenshot. If you need to reduce the size of your Composition Panel to 50% or even 25% to fit things in do that. Now drag the screenshot to the Reply field on this forum and describe in detail what you are trying to do.

Effects: Level settings not rendered correctly in export

I am having the following issue in Premiere Pro CS5.
I have an image sequence with alpha placed over some film footage. The sequence is supposed to blend with the real footage.
To do so, I have adjusted the sequence with a few effect filters.
The filer setup is as follows:
- levels
- shadow/highlight
- fast color corrector
- levels (this one is added later for just a little bit extra control)
In the program monitor it looks great, and the preview render on the timeline looks good. However, after exporting the media, the effect filters seem gone, or at least different from what it is supposed to be.
Anyone familiar with this problem?

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately the issue is not solved yet. Like Colin expected, it's already set to software (The option "GPU Accelerated" is disabled).
Some specs:
- It's an 720p24 project
- the overlay is an PNG sequence with alpha
In the export render settings "Use Maximum Render Quality" was selected. But deselecting it, gave the same result.
In "Sequence settings", the option "Maximum Render Quality" is also selected. What's the difference for these 2? Is it worth a try to deselect this option aswell?
Any thoughts of what it could be?
(if helpfull, I will try to post some screenshots of the problem)

Can't see vray render elements in after effects.

Not too sure where to post this so i'm placing it in various forums, I'm working with 3Ds Max 2011, Vray 1.5 sp5 and After Effects CS4.
I want to save a render with various render elements such as zdepth, material and object ID etc all saved into a single .exr file so i can bring animations into After Effects and do DOF changes and colour changes quickly. The problem is that if i render the image and do a manual save as an exr it won't show any of the vray render elements when i bring it into AE.
If i set it to auto save as a Vray raw image but change the extension from vrimg to exr then it saves all the render elements but I lose the 'save as exr' dialogue box where i can chose bit depth and compression type.
If I render the image and save manually as an exr then i have all that but it won't save vray render elements, after using extractor the screen is just black.
In short i just want to be able to 'save as' an .exr and be able to see my render elements in the render, i've posted some screen caps below to show everything is as should be, any help is appreciated.

But the screen is black afer using extractor, the layer is in there as can be seen when it's moved out of position

fnordware, thanks i've put the files on megaupload, the links are below. i tried doing an auto save as you suggested but to no avail, as i say it will work if i tell max to save as a vray raw image and just change the extension but not as a simple 'save as'.
I've simplified these files, they should only have an rgb, an alpha and a zdepth. Anything you can give me will be much appreciated.

Adobe Premiere Elements 8 and Window7 Ultimate 64 bit

I have install windows7 ultimate 64 bit and adobe premiere elements 8. When closed adobe premiere elemts 8 won't the prozess in the taskmanager closed. When closed ape8 reserved this programm in the taskmanger under prozesse and cpu 13% and not close.
I can't starting this programm but to about. This prozess to release manually ( prozess closed in the taskmanager ).
When Prozess aborted starting ths Programm as usual.

I have my PE8 installed to other patition.
First, PrE (all versions) want to be installed on the C:\ [System Drive]. Other locations can cause major problems.
Now, how many physical HDD (Hard Disk Drives) does your system have? How many of these are partitioned?
The reason that I ask it that a partition, especially if it's your system drive HDD 0, can cause major slowdowns. The reason for this is that the OS "thinks" that it is dealing with 2 physical HDD's. It is not. It is dealing with one physical HDD, that is partitioned. The OS will ask for things from what it thinks is 2 physical HDD's at the same time. Unfortunately, the one physical HDD cannot be in two places at a time - something has to give and performance is how it will give. This will be a bottleneck, as the OS waits for that single HDD to get the data, or write that data. Often, the OS will crash waiting for the data to be read, or written, or maybe the program will.
Partitions are bad. The only reason for them is if one has a dual-boot system, with a different OS on each, and the appropriate programs on each. Even here, I would strongly recommend hot-swappable boot drives, where you just plug in your Win7, or you Linux, depending on what you wish to do.

You may wanna lower your RAM allotted per background CPU. As you see your not gonna be using any multiprocessing for multi frame rendering which may or may not be a better set up. It's wise to try different set ups to see what works best. Theres a "rule of thumb" here Please try recommended memory settings for After Effects CS5 and give feedback. | After Effects region of interest.

Saving a Channel with all of its effects and settings?

Is there any ways to save the virtual instrument, all of its applied effects and their settings?

I'm still waiting for my copy of Express 8 but in Express 7 you could do this by saving the channel strip setting. On page 230 of the Express 8 manual, which I've been reading in advance of actually receiving the product, it tells you how save a channel strip setting. Hope this helps.
