Elements 10 trying to delete clip

Elements 10. I have a clip on the sceneline that is blank and takes up 3 minutes. I have selected clip and hit delete, but it will not delete. It is like empty space.
Huge movie tonight with family. Ughhhh.

Welcome to the forum.
Switch to the Timeline View Mode. There, you will likely see that instead of a Clip, it IS a gap. You can Rt-click on that gap, and choose Remove Gap and Closeup (or similar syntax). Note: if you have either Video, or Audio, that is covering the gap, then it cannot be automatically closed.

Trying to delete a clip makes iMovie glitch out.

I selected a clip in the source window at the bottom and hit COMMAND-DELETE to get rid of it. The first time, it removed all of the UI elements from the iMovie window except for the preview window and the button for the camera. Everything else was grey.
Second time trying to delete the clip, iMovie just shut down.

To delete a clip from a project, select it, right-click, choose Delete Selection.
To delete a clip from an Event, choose the Reject tool in the middle tool bar. Mark the sections you wish to Reject. They will have a red marking under them. Go to the dropdown menu at the bottom and choose Rejected Clips Only. Here you can review everything you have rejected and select "Move Rejected Clips To Trash."
I haven't seen Command-Delete in the documentation anywhere. I don't know what that would do. If you could point it out to me I would like to read about it.

Also, does anyone know if there is a limit to the total amount of space that can be taken up by Projects in Imovie 09

It goes something like this...
Put your new drive in the enclosure. Use Disk Utility to format it, etc. I'd give it a slightly different name than the original. Let's say you have Old Disk and New Disk as your drive names. Use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy Old Disk to New Disk. Now you should have an exact copy, which you can test by rebooting and holding down the Option key. Choose New Disk from the list and let it boot, make sure all is well.
Shut down and physically swap the drives. Take Old Disk and put it in the enclosure. Now your system has a new disk with a lot more space and you can reformat your old disk and just use it for large files or whatever.

Can't Delete Clips in iMovie

I was running an iDVD project and trying to edit an iMovie slideshow when iDVD stopped responding and I force quit from it. I then tried to Delete a clip from the iMovie project I was working on and it won't do it. Neither will trying edit-->clear. I have restarted twice and deleted iMovie preferences and it still won't work.
What have I done and how can I fix this?

I couldn't figure out how to fix this - something was corrupted, so I just started over and made an identical iMovie project to import into iDVD and trashed the old one.

Container Elements - Inherited elements may not be deleted

Hi,
I have created a Adhoc Agent container element and when I tried to delete this, it gives the message "Inherited elements may not be deleted" and does not allow me to delete.
Could anybody please shed some light on this. I have tried all possible ways by changing the container element but in vein.

I ma just guessing it have you used this in some existing step which may be having this as mandatory parameters or are you using the Business object somewhere in the wflow. This is a wild guess.
Just do a syntax check of your Wflow template U will find some hint may be this are defined as read only or something linke this.

Trying to Delete Stubborn Files

So after trying to Log and Transfer some files from Final Cut Express (yes, express...) I ended up with these strange files taking up huge amounts fo space on my hard drive!
I ended up with a file that is a whopping 180gb and the second clip is saying it is zero kb in size. I can not delete the files. They do not drag or drop, I cant open there enclosing folders and i cant simply two finger click to delete them either. (open enclosing folder and move to trash are simply not given options)
I can access the Get Info option to see the persmissions and all it says is "You have unknown access"
When i try to simply open them they throw up a blocken alias warning. Delete Alias does not do anything, and I can not Fix the Alias as the original files no longer exist on my camera.
The files have the .mov file extension and yea... really trying to avoid having to do a full reinstal of my system!
any help would be great!

Can I merge/delete clip duplicates in project window after importing sequences?

hi, I have to import several sequences from another premiere pro project. Some of them rely on the same material - but premiere imports for each sequence all clips in separate folders. So I tried to delete the duplicates but premiere told me it's needed for a sequence. How can I tell premiere that these clips are the same? I have already 3000 clips in the project without the duplicates and it's getting confusing with another couple hundreds of duplicate clips flying around.

I don't know of any way to clean up this project, but in the future, don't import the project, just import the sequence. That will not create duplicates.

HELP! Pre is crashing when I try to delete clips - project due in 4 hrs

I have a 20 min SD video that I need to cut down to 10 minutes - I am trying to remove clips from the beginning of the project, but after I delete 1 clip, pre crashes - what to do?? Eric

Sorry I was a little sleepy - I'm using Windows 7 Steve. Yes I have the latest version of quicktime - yes my camcorder downconverts HDV to SD and what I meant by "playback" was that I have to play the files into the computer versus a hard drive camcorder. What I was trying to do was delete out about 10 min of video from a 20 minute project and PRE keeps crashing. I have no problems trimming clips. In any case, ATR and Bill Hunt directed me to a program called "clipmate" and that worked for me with ATR's workflow on a previous thread about copying clips from project to project. Project is done It's hunting season here in South Dakota and I'm going to have a lot of projects to work on and I don't need software that crashes regularly, but maybe the "software crash" is a common problem in the videography world....? Are you leaving the box unchecked to Manually manage music & videos? You don't need to to add anything to the iPhone.
Simply drag the playlist to the iPhone to manually add it.

Trying to delete iPhoto 6 thumbsegment.data files crashes Mac OS 10.4

Summary:
Whenever I try to delete any of the thumb files from the iPhoto directory on my internal hard drive or my external backup drive, it crashes the computer (screen scrolls dark then says "Have to restart, hold button for several seconds" in multiple languages). This is true if I try to delete any single file or if I try to delete all the files (thumb32segment.data, thumb64segment.data, thumbJPGsegment.data). The panic message is:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x00102854): jnl: transaction too big (1582592 >= 1572352 bytes, bufsize 8192, tr 0x2733f7c bp 0x280286d0)
The actual "transaction too big" numbers can vary. All my software is current as of last night. I'm running 10.4.6 and I have 150G drive with +10G free space, 1.25 GHz, 1GB memory.
Background:
I'm one of the people who experienced the extraordinarily sluggish version of iPhoto 6. In trying to fix it, I rebuilt my system from the hard drive up (including reinstalling everything)--no good. Apparently it was a known bug, a fix came out and my world was better. Until I tried to back up iPhoto.
I back up to an external hard drive by dragging and dropping.
1) Once I was sure the patch worked, I dragged the iPhoto folder from my internal drive to my backup drive...and the system crashed.
2) Figuring it was the old, buggy version causing the problem I dragged the old, external backup iPhoto folder to the trash and tried to empty the trash...and the system crashed.
3) After a file-by-file test, I determined it was the initial 2 thumbs (thumb32 and thumb64) from the buggy version causing the problem. One of the reasons I pay the Mac premium is because I don't want to be a sys admin, but nonetheless I went to Ihnatko's Mac OS X book and found the sudo command for forcing the trash to empty files (sudo chflags nouchg ~/.Trash/*), executed the command, emptied the trash...and the system crashed.
4) So I moved the old thumbs into a different folder on my external drive and dragged and dropped a backup. No problem. Until I tried to do it a second time after my next update to iPhoto and...the system crashed.
So now I have:
* old external backup (thumb32, thumb64)
* new external backup (thumb32, thumb64, thumbJPG)
* new internal source (thumb32, thumb64, thumbJPG)
and I can't backup or delete any of these files without the system crashing.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get rid of the extraneous thumb files and get back to doing a simple drag-and-drop backup without crashing my system? (And yes, I've learned my lesson not to be an early adopter of iLife...but that doesn't help me now.)
FWIW, I'm having another problem with iPhoto or iTunes/iPod whereby iTunes/iPod has stopped recognizing iPhoto albums (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=530034&tstart=0). This happened long after the problem I've described here, but I'm including the link in case it's helpful.

I did as you suggested:
1) Booted from install CD.
2) Ran Disk Utilities on internal hard drive--no repairs necessary. For good measure, did the same thing on external drive. Also no repairs necessary.
3) Checked software update--no updates found. About this Mac said I was already running 10.4.7. For good measure, I downloaded the latest and installed it. Since it let me run the install, I'm not sure if I installed something new or reinstalled what I already had.
4) I rebooted from CD, ran disk utilities, ran repair disk--no repairs necessary. Repaired permissions and a lot of permissions repaired.
5) Tried to delete the files and the same old thing happened: kernel panic. The specific message:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x00102A08): jnl: transaction too big (1587712 >= 1572352 bytes, bufsize 8192, tr 0x29f1fb0 bp 0x2801de40)
So there's no change in my status.
I'm trying to delete the files because:
A) They already take .5 Gb.
B) I can't get rid of them ever. If I move the problem files to a different folder, I can only do one successful drag-and-drop backup to the external drive until the "new" thumb segments become unerasable just like the previous versions and crash the system.
C) I can't even "just" drag and drop every file/folder except the thumbs, because that ends up crashing the system as well. So I have to drag and drop every file/folder in the iPhoto hierarchy individually. Which makes me less inclined to backup, which defeats the purpose of a backup.
D) After the iPhoto fiasco I'm just crabby about all the Apple screw-ups I'm experiencing and I want to get them fixed.

When I was trying to delete the emails in my inbox for the Mail app - I followed THESE directions. It did in fact clear my inbox for the Mail app. But then I went to log on to my Outlook account and EVERY SINGLE EMAIL was gone. And not in the Deleted box. Just gone. Uncheck "Store deleted messages on the server".
At the drop list for "Permanently erase deleted messages when", choose "Quitting Mail".

At "When searching all mailboxes, include results from", uncheck "Trash".

i found out my prob!
here is what you do.
go to the "system preferences" on your dock.
click "software updates".
click "installed software"
if it shows something about a recent update about "EFI UPDATE, FIRMWARE, THUNDERBOLT" or anything like that, exit out of it.
go to mail.
click "mail" at the top.
click "preferences...".
find the account you are having trouble with, once you do, make sure its highlighted, then click the "-" at the bottom of the window (this will only effect that mail account, it will not effect your ical weather or not its synced thought that email account)
hit the "+" (right next to the "-") and add your accout back!

The iTunes Media folder is set in Preferences > Advanced, and is the key to most iTunes folder organizational activities. So I doubt that the automatic deletion will work for files that are somewhere else within the folder structure.
However, I have not experimented with that issue in quite a while, so you are welcome to give it a try in iTunes 11.

Trying to delete the Apple Folder from Program Files/Common Files. I can delete all the contents except for the Internet Services folder which prevents me from making the deletion. The error message says "you need permission to delete this file".
Discovered this problem when trying to upgrade from my 3G iPhone to a new 5S iPhone unsucessfully.
