Elements 11 and RAW IMAGES

I had a Canon 400D and processing RAW images was not a problem before.
However, since acquiring a Canon 70D, I cannot load my RAW images any more, for editing purposes.
Can you help at all? Thanks in advance.

For the 70d you need PSE12 Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software - Canon DPP on the software disk with your camera)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

You may need to update the Camera Raw plug-in. Open Full Edit and click Help à Updates
If an update is available, select it and install.

  • Need help with Elements loading RAW images since I switched cameras.

I recently switched from a Canon Rebel XT to a Canon Rebel T1i. I have Elements 6.0 and was able to see RAW images with my old camera. For some reason the RAW images aren't loading in Elements now. I get a message saying the files are corrupt. I've tried different cards but still no difference. Any suggestions?

    Please read this TechNote:-
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407110.html
    It shows at:-
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407111.html
you need at least ACR 5.4 for your T1i/500D
ACR 5.6 and therefore earlier versions work on PSE 6.
You should upgrade your PSE 6 to ACR 5.6; it does work on PSE 6 at least in WIndows. I know because ACR 5.6 works on my PSE 6 under Windows Vista.

  • IPhoto 6.0.6 and RAW images - compatible??

I've taken some RAW images with my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3. I thought I had read somewhere that I would be able to import RAW images into iphoto 6, although it wouldn't be exactly straightforward, but now can't find the instructions. Can I do this? I have an imac G5 PowerPC.

Yes iPhoto works with Raw images from supported cameras. But no, not with yours.
The Raw format is specific to each camera model. The Raw produced by your LX3 is not the same as produced by any other camera - Lumix or not. Therefore support has to be added for each camera individually.
Let Apple know you want your camera supported: iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback
Note: there is zero chance of v6 iPhoto being able to work with the LX3 Raws. It hasn't been updated since 2006, and I don;t see them adding features now.

  • IPhoto 6 library and RAW images

Trying to conserve disk space, I have burned my entire photo library off onto DVD's and started to import again, using the iPhoto 6 alias feature. (I didn't have a lot of keywords entered, so I didn't lose too much in the way of "organization"). I imported the first batch of RAW images and iphoto not only makes thumbnails, but a 1 - 2 meg JPEG of each RAW image. Granted, not as large as the RAW image itself, but I can see this eating up HD space just the same. Also, iPhoto doesn't keep track of the external drive (DVD in this case) that the images came from, so when I go to copy/edit/whatever any particular photo, I have to remember what disk its on (not that hard, since I put a comment in the roll comments box of the disk the roll is from). But, is this the acceptable norm for cataloging images???? I am really trying to figure out a way to use iPhoto as my image cataloging software, but so far it seems like a lot of hoops to jump through.

    Robert:
I've used the alias feature of iPhoto with jpgs with great success. But RAW files create a whole new problem with their accompanying jpg files, etc. I have all of my source files on an external HD so it's easier to manage than a lot of DVD disks. My 27G of source files, (17,000 photos), are represented by an alias library of 1.7G.
What you're experiencing with the disks is about the norm with image management applications working with off line source files. You need to know the ID of the disk the files are one so you can recover the full sized images easily. If your disks contain multiple folders of photos then you can add the disk name to the beginning of the roll name for easy sorting, etc.
You can use Albums for grouping rolls from the same disk. HOWEVER, don't use Smart Albums for that because there's a bug that will cause the library to crash and not open again if you go in and change the sorting within that smart album.

  • PS ELEMENTS and raw files

I have PS Elements 7. I cant open raw files from a memory card shot in a Canon 6D. I went to help in Elements, and under camera raw plug-in, it says my version is 4.5.0.175. Do I upgrade this, and how? Am I also going to need a DNG converter?

You need ACR 7.3 according to this list
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
So I don't think you are going to be able access the CR2 files directly from Elements.  (This is actually the Photoshop forum, and we don't know much at all about Elements.  You can find the right forum at Photoshop Elements)
So you are going to need to install the free DNG converter, but it is no real hassle.

  • Elements 7 -Raw images

    Hi,
after 2 years with no problems, my Elements 7 is not raeding Raw images from my memory cards-Any ideas please how I can correct this?
    Thank you
    John.

Have you upgraded to a new camera?
Or are you saying it's just no longer opening raw images through the Camera Raw converter.
Perhaps it would be best if you provided more detail (a screen shot showing the error message in context would be most helpful).

  • Photos OSX and RAW images

I have just updated the OS and imported my Aperture library. The photos from Aperture have been imported correctly (both a RAW and a JPEG of each image can be seen if I look within the Photos package).
However, in Photos OS X some of the photos are labelled J and are JPEGs whilst others are labelled R and are RAW. There appears to be no way of changing the view of the master file and the 2 commands in the 'Image' menu ('Reprocess RAW' and 'Use RAW as Original' are both continually greyed out.
Can anyone suggest how I might be able to change update the Photos library so I can use the RAW images as the Master?
    Thanks
    Patrick

Click on "edit" and then go to the menu again - that is where you can toggle RAW or JPEG to be the main image.
How to see both RAW+JPEG files?

  • IPad and RAW images

Looking at the iPad specs it states it can import RAW images, but the RAW format is not listed in the viewable type of files. Has anybody tried loading a RAW image to the iPad and then view it?
    Thanks in advance.

Here is an answer for you (basically 'no') from another posting:

  • Photoshop elements 6 raw image problems.

PROBLEM 1:  I recently purchased a Canon 7D and got a free copy of PSE6, and I had to upgrade to camera raw 5.6 to view raw files.  I am now able to view raw files, but still get a error; "DLL c:\Programfiles\adobe\photoshop elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\Camera_raw_5_6\win64\camera raw .8bi is not a valid windows image. Please check against your installation diskette."  I'm not sure what's going on does anyone have any advice?
PROBLEM 2:  I took some raw pictures in B&W and when I view them in PSE6 they come out in color.  I'm not sure what the problem is any advice?  Is this problem related to problem 1?

The jpeg has been processed as a B&W shot already in the camera. The raw file is the raw data--the three color channels, unprocessed. Third party converters, like ACR will ignore any conversion settings you made in camera. Only the manufacturer's software can read those.

  • Canon Eos 5D, Lightroom and RAW images

After a series of tests I carried out with my Canon camera, do you agree with these conclusions on the raw format?
Following an import in Lightroom of RAW pictures:
Loss of image styles (portrait, landscape, B&W...)
Loss of image style changes (+/- sharpness, +/- hue...)
The white balance setting is kept but can still be modified in lightroom
The temperature of color setting is kept
    > Are B&W filters (green, yellow, sepia...) kept or deleted through import?
    Thanks!

I believe we'll all agree that your comments are true. That is, Adobe ACR or Lr make no attempt to read much more into the raw data than the data itself (ie, without interpreting any setting other than the white balance).
While that is the case, Adobe has provided profiles that should very closely match the "portrait, landscape, ..." styles. Lr is also very versatile such that you can create presets that will closely match all the other in-camera styles ... and, btw, many more.

  • Elements and RAW

I have a Elements 6 (I know I should update it, but that will come later).  Is there anyway I can upload RAW files to Elements 6?
    Thanks - Barry

    Hi,
That camera has been supported since Photoshop Elements 11, but you just as well download and install the latest DNG converter from here
    Win – http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5864
This is a useful tutorial on the DNG converter
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bqGovpuihw
    Couple of special notes:
    1) Your Photoshop Elements 6 needs to have the last update for that version
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4042
    2) In the DNG converter you need to set the preferences to be compatible with Camera Raw 5.4 and later.
Windows 8.1 isn't that bad once you have it set up to act like Windows 7 - Windows 10 out later this year.

  • Canon 5d Mark II and Raw Images in CS4

    HI
I have a Canon 5D Mark II and have just upgraded to standard CS4. When I go to view my Raw files on bridge I am unable to do this - all I see instaed of the thumbnail is the CR2 file. When I click on the file it states 'could not complete your request as it is not the correct type of document' - can you please advise how I can view these files?
    Thanks

The Canon 5D Mark II requires at least version 5.2 of the ACR plug-in.  See http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407111.html
The CS4 default installed ACR 5.0 so you have to upgrade the plug-in.

  • Elements and raw c2 files

Is there any version of elements that will put c2 raw files in the organizer?

Sorry, but your question doesn't make much sense. What version of PSE do you currently have? Where are the files from? What system? What issue do you specifically have?

  • Difficulty navigating to and identifying my RAW and JPEG Images

    Hi,
I have several related issues that I would appreciate help with.
I am finding difficulty navigating to and identifying my RAW and JPEG images in Aperture. I do actually principally work with JPEG and only use RAW when I perceive there to be a benefit by improving a poorly captured image.
To give you some background.  I am using an iMac OSX 10.8.3 and Aperture 3.4.3 Camera Raw 4.04. When I Import images I import both RAW and JPEG using RAW as the original.
At the Import stage both RAW and JPEG thumbnails are displayed. However once imported only one thumbnail is displayed in the Library on some occasions this will be the JPEG and on other occasions the RAW (as identified from the Info tab. How can I select which version to work with?
I would appreciate assistance with this.
    Regards,
    John

It is possible to see the Raw master along side the Jpg master if you wish.
When a version is created (make new version from original) it is created off the original that is currently selected. So if the jpg image is the current original all versions created will be made off the jpg image. Likewise if the raw is the current original all versions created will be made off the raw image.
Also keep in mind that a version that has no adjustments applied to it is identical to the original it was made from.
So to get both along side each other do:
Set raw as original, create new version from original. Label this version Raw original version. Now switch to jpg as original. Make a version from this and label it Jpg original version.
Just ensure you never apply adjustments to these two images and you will always have both the jpg and raw images available to compare.
In addition if say the jpg is the original and you want to make a version from the raw, instead of switching the jpg and raw you can just go to the Raw original version and duplicate it.
