Elements 11 - incompatible driver

I am trying to run Adobe Elements 11 on a Samsung NP300E5C laptop on Windows 7 but it errors when I try to start a new project from the welcome screen stating that it has found an incompatible display driver and I should update (Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000).
I have gone onto the Samsung website and downloaded the latest driver for this model, and I have tried to download the lastest update from the Intel website but that errors saying that it is incompatible with the hardware, I have done as many Windows updates as I can, but it still doesn't work.
Once Elements eventually fully opens, the mouse jumps around alot until it grinds to an eventual halt.
Can anyone shed any light on what to try next?

  • Premiere 9: Incompatible Driver...

This warning keeps popping up about an incompatible driver. Adobe Premiere Elements 9 has been working for me before this. The program works but it cannot display the actual clip. Sound works, but it just doesn't show anything. Please help me!!! I need this editor for a project due this Friday 12/17/10!
It says "We have detected an incompatible display driver. To get a better and faster playback performance, please update your display driver Display driver details :Intel - Intel Cantiga 1.5.0 - Build 7.15.10.1502"

The same can be said for Intel - great chips, but where video is concerned, lousy driver support.
With most computer programs, if one can get a display on the monitor, all is pretty good. However, with NLE work, things are not so good. Those programs (some, more than others) need to interface with the driver at a very high level. Same for 3D applications. If the driver is not working 100%, they will not either.
Now, PrE is an entry-level program, but still relies heavily on the video (and audio) driver to work properly. Many folk are pressing "normal" computers into service with it, and also CyberLink PowerDirector, Sony Vegas, Magix MovieEdit Pro, and similar. It's easy to hit a performance ceiling with these units, and if one adds in AVCHD, or other H.264 sources, things must be tuned to 100%, to run acceptably. With PrPro, AVID, FCP, and similar, most users are already on much stronger computers, but can still have the system brought to its knees by just a bad, outdated/obsolete video driver. With 3D apps, most users are also on workstations, but there is that same vulnerability. The system is only as good as its weakest link - whether a video driver, the CPU, or the I/O sub-system. All are potential bottlenecks. The CPU and the I/O are pretty fixed, and so long as they do not go bad, they will continue to perform at the normal rates (until HDD's start getting filled up), but video drivers can be rendered obsolete by such simple things as an OS update, or hot-fix. They are probably the most vulnerable aspect of the system for video editing.
Good luck, and at least you have the benefit of the nVidia chip - most do not have that luxury with a laptop.

  • Formatting a WD Elements 3TB external drive...temporary file normal?

    Hi All,
I am, I hope, at the end of a 36+ hour formatting process with this WD Elements 3TB external drive. I decided to zero out the drive and when I went to bed last night at around 12am, there were about 6 hours left in the process. This morning at aroud 9am I went to check on the drive, expecting it to be ready to go, but I found it writing a temporary file. The progress bar is about 90% done. Is this part of the normal zeroing out process? If so, how long should this take? If this ISN'T part of the normal process, what should I do?
Thanks to all who read this, many thank to those who respond.

Yes, DU is creating a huge file of Zeros and will confirm, the driver software will map off any failing sectors before you lay data on it.
That is a good proceedure your doing, because if you run out of spare sectors the drive is bad and you can get a refund/exchange right away.

3TB? well 500GB should take about a hour and a half, so 9 hours and it should have been completed.
36+ hours, there is either something wrong with the drive, or DU is not prepared to handle drives in that large amount. which I suspect is more the case, but I might be wrong.
Likely 1TB is it's limit, so use partitions and zero each of those, then reformat.

  • Premiere Elements 12 Incompatible Display Driver problem

I recently bought Adobe Premiere Elements 12 and installed it with no problem. I tried to run it but it keeps saying that my display drivers are incompatible. My AMD Radeon 6950 has up to date drivers and I even tried deleting the BadDriver.txt, but it keeps appearing when I try to open the program. I would appreciate any help. I have tried almost everything.

Great job in solving your own issue.
Just a note, when you delete the BadDrivers.txt file, it is normal for the program to generate a new one when the program is opened again. And hopefully the program now works without display error messages.
That BadDrivers.txt file deletion has its origin in the days of Premiere Elements 9 and has continued to help others with later versions as well...after updating video card/graphics card driver is not the answer. The rationale behind BadDriver.txt file deletion can be found in post 10 of the following older thread

  • Premiere Elemente 12 - incompatible Display Driver on Win 8.1

    Hi Everybody!
I am running Windows 8.1 on an HP Ultrabook equipped with 23" external Display via USB 3.0 Port Replicator. Primary Display is off, as Notebook is closed.
I have installed PE12 before updating to W8.1.
Starting PE 12 results in an alert message: "incompatible display driver detected, please update..."
Updating Chipset Drivers resulted in "most recent driver installed".
How can I get that software running???
    Thank you in advance
    Peter

Have stopped the firewall and allowed all traffic -
From what I have read, many of this type of situation has been resolved by disabling the firewall with the rationale that file like dynamiclinkmanager is being blocked from getting to important files because of firewall protection. If this turns out to be the case, then we would need to look into writing exceptions in the firewall.
Removed the newest version and installaed 7.6.6. -
Another strategy that worked for one with this type of problem was to go from the latest version of Quicktime to an earlier version. In the case that I read, the version went to was 7.6.6. Older versions of QuickTime can be found at the following link.
Download Old Versions of QuickTime for Windows - OldVersion.com

  • Premiere Elements 12- Incompatible display driver

I see that a lot of people have this problem. What do I do? My driver is correct. I bought this version because my last version wouldn't stop crashing and your pay-for-tech-support kept hanging up on me after waiting for an hour. When I opted for call back, they called back and imediately put me on hold and never answered. I took a day off work and spent the whole day trying to get through. I gave up and bought a new version...which isn't working. Dissappointed. I hope this can be painlessly resolved. Thanks!
I tried the live chat. The guy said I need specialized help and I need to check back next week, It's Friday night, to get someone who can help me. I hope the community knows about this issue.

  • Premier Elements 12- Display driver error message

Hi, I have just downloaded PE12 and have been unable to open the program. When I click on New Project, the following message appears, then it hangs up and wont open...."We have detected an incompatible display driver. I am running Windows 7, 32 bit. I am sure that I have updated all the relevant windows drivers as per the Windows website and instructions. Still no help. Would appreciate any assistance and advice.

  • I need to hook up a WD Elements portable hard drive and Firefox won't let me...any thoughts

I went to the WE Elements support page for my 250GB WD Elements portable HD and in one of the side bars it mentions on updates there are incompatibility problems with Firefox and Internet Explorer and suggests that I need to downgrade to a lower version of Firefox. Is there anyway of avoiding doing this and getting my back up drive to work?

A portable HD is merely a storage device i.e. to transfer data from your internal HD to the portable one. Firefox is not involved in that operation since it's only a browser.
The installation guide is also in PDF format, so you can configure Adobe Reader to open the file outside the browser, so that's not a problem either.
Where did you see this info about FF being incompatible? On here somewhere? http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=480

  • How do I recover my photoshop elements after hard drive replacement?

I recently had to replace my main drive on the computer, so I have to reload all my software.  I originally installed photoshop elements 3.0 and still have the CDs and serial number, but cannot install it because it isn't compatable with windows 7.  I had upgraded to 5.0 and have that CD, but it is upgrade only and will not install because it cannot detect an earlier installation.  I do have all the files copied from my previous drive into a directory in the new drive, but the installation of 5.0 didn't find what it needed, even when I gave it the correct directory.
How do I get my photoshop elements back on my computer?
    Thanks!

You should not need to reinstall Elements 3 at all. Upgrade disks contain the full version of the software. The serial numbers tells the installer if you have a full version or an upgrade.
Just install Elements 5 from the upgrade disk, enter your Elements 5 upgrade serial number then enter your Elements 3 serial number when prompted.

  • Disk Utility won't format my WD Elements 1TB Hard Drive.

I've searched the forums for this and have seen several questions addressing this but none of the solutions are working for me. Here's my problem:
My IMac died on me the other day and would not reboot. Spoke with Apple support and they decided my OS had become corrupted and that the only solution was a complete reinstall. To save my data the rep walked me through installing the OS on an external HD. This has worked great and I'm currently working off that drive and have managed to pull a lot of my data off the IMac's HD to that external drive. But I've run out of space; it was only 120GB and I've got about 144 GB of data left to retrieve. So I purchased a WD Elements 1 TB external HD and want to do the same thing that I did with other drive...install the operating system on it and pull all the data off the original computer HD to it. But I cannot for the life of me get anything to work. Unfortunately I purchased a drive that is formatted for windows (NTFS). I've gone through the steps found in this forum, and they're the same steps the rep walked me through with the first drive: launch Disc Utility, select the drive, click Partition, give the volume a name, click options to choose GUID Partition Table, and then under Volume Scheme: choose Partition 1, click apply.
But what happens with this drive is the minute I change the Volume Scheme from "current" to "partition 1", all the options and buttons go grey. So I'm unable to click apply to make the changes. I've tried several different times and nothing is working. I've even tried to just format it using the "current" volume scheme but that gives me an error...something about partition failed...permission denied.
At this point I'd be happy with just formatting the drive so I can just drag the files I want off onto it...but I can't seem to find any solutions. I took the drive to a Windows XP machine I have and tried to format it from NTFS to Fat32, thinking maybe the Mac would work with it then but my XP machine won't format into Fat32...only EXFat. Tried that but the Mac wouldn't even show the drive then. Have reformatted it back to NTFS now.
I'm probably going to end up calling Mac support again but they're closed now I'm just curious to see what you folks might be able to come up with.
Good thing I shave my head as I'd have probably ripped it all out by now.

den.thed....that's interesting. The drive I have been having problems doesn't say anywhere on it that it has that Smartware software on it. Didn't see any files on the drive at all. After tech support at both Western Digital and Apple said they'd never heard of this before, I'm returning the drive and buying one that's preformatted for Apple. The drive I ordered does have that software on it, but since I have no fancy plans for this drive other than just backing up files with Time Machine I'll probably just install their software and be happy if it works. If it causes a problem I'll look into that link you suggested.
The Mac support guy I spoke to thought that if I could get the drive formatted into Fat32 it should be able to be reformatted by my Mac. But after having to download software so that I could get it formatted into Fat32 (My XP machine only gave me the option of ExFat), it still wouldn't work. As soon as I tried to assign the partition under the volume scheme all my options greyed out and I could proceed no further. Very frustrating.
So we'll find out tomorrow if the new drive does the tricks.
So even though my problem was not solved, I appreciate the feedback and advice.

  • WD Elements external hard drive getting 1 drive to work with 10.4 and 10.5

I have a WD 2TB Elements new drive ready to start using. Anyone know the tricks to be able to get this drive to work right with 10.4 Power PC AND 10.5 Mac Pro? I have another WD drive (same type, the "Elements") and it won't copy most files that were made on my 10.5 machine. It was formatted on the 10.4 machine and I may not have formatted it right.  Works fine on the 10.4 machine but when I use that drive on the 10.5 Mac Pro, it often doesn't like files made on 10.4, and vice versa. Is it impossible to get the WD to be compatible with both or am I stuck dedicating the new drive to either the 10.4 or the 10.5 exclusively?  I've only had this compatibility issue with WD drives. No problems like this with Seagate and other brands. Also do not have this problem with WD's tiny 750GB drive that is powered by USB. That one works like a charm.  So I'm wondering if I just need to reformat it correctly - maybe I didn't get the partioning right-- however I have read comments by others who have had the same problem with WD Elements drives.  A -36 Error message pops up and the drive will not copy the file, and then it craps out and you cannot see the files listed - it goes blank. Then the only way to quit the drive is to pull the USB or power cord and kill it - then put it back in right away.  Force Quitting by relaunching Finder still doesn't allow a Trashing of the drive - has to be done by yanking out the connection or the power.

These are what WD lists for Mac, so no I wouldn't buy WD Elements and while their drives are fine, I don't recommend any external or MyBook series.
    http://www.wdc.com/en/products/external/desktopformac/
G4 uses one partition map and Intel Macs use GUID.
Your actions are contributing to directory corruption, pulling plug and killing power to the unit.

  • WD Elements External Hard drive wont detect on my MBP anymore. HELP!!

I was desperate to transfer my files from my WD external drive to my MBP but to no avail. So I searched online and found MacFuse and NTFS-3G. So I installed them both and after that, my WD Elements wont show anymore. It was working before prior to installing MacFuse & NTFS-3G. So I tried to remove them both but still the same problem. It wont detect my WD external drive anymore. The light on my WD drive is lighted up as usual but can't be found on Finder. I also tried to remove the WD external drive from my MBP and it recognises that my WD is there! Its says did not unmount correctly, something like that. I also tried to isolate the problem using another computer, this time, Windows and it works well.
The Culprit of all this is when I install MacFue & NTFS-3G
So I am stuck, any help would be highly appreciated.

Remove MacFuse and NTFS3G. remove them correctly, get the directions from the vendor(s). Don't put it back
Do you have any backups or are you winging it?

  • WD Elements External Hard Drive: No Sleep Issue

    Hello,
I know this probably isn't the best place for this as it's not directly related to an iMac. But it works.
I have two WD Elements (http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=304&lang=en) external hard drives that I use for a Time Machine and for a Media drive. I've got them plugged into a Belkin Powered USB Hub (http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW306LL/A) which is then of course attatched to my iMac. My issue is that the two hard drives seem to continue to work at full power once I've shut my computer off.
Is there anyway I can have them go into sleep mode?
I was considering splicing a switch onto the power cord of the USB Hub so that I could easily turn it off once the computer is off. However that seems a bit silly?
Thank you for your time, and opinions,
    Robin

Thanks for the suggestion. I can't believe I didn't think about that as I knew about it.
It seems to have helped when the computer is on. I can see that at some points they are working a lot less, which is great. So thank you.
Unfortunately they seem to be still working at full power them the computer is off. I figure this is because they are not directly attatched to the computer itself so nothing is telling them to "sleep."

  • WD Elements External Hard Drive not mounting

My external hard drive is not mounting it is connected by via USB connected directly to my Macbook. When I connect it error "The disk you inserted is not redable by this computer". I can see it on Disk Utility however all options are grayed out. I also tried connecting it to my sister's windows machine same thing not mounting. I've tried this suggestion http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2176 but I got an error "Error: -69877: Couldn't open device".
By the way it's a self powered 2.2TB WD Elements
    Badly needed help!

I had the same info (with a WD essentials encolusre where I just replaced a 750 with a 2TB), but after closing both DiskDrill and Disk utility, the terminal worked. So have a look if there are any other disk monitorings on.
