Elements 11 organiser bringing up old photos?

My organiser keeps bringing up phantom photos, it keeps automatically cataloging millions of photos which i actually deleted many many years ago!!!!!!!.
When i have finished working with my new photos and wanting to save them over to my hard drive it wont let me, it says its searching for missing files (forever) and i assume its searching for these millions of photos it has which were deleted years ago!!!. I have had an IT expert look at my PC who has done a search on the hard drive for missing files and tells me these photos simply arent there and has no idea where photo shop elements 11 is getting them from!.
I dont know what to do, i need to get rid of them all to be able to work and transfer my new photos with out it telling me its "searching for missing files" all the time, it doesnt allow me to simply delete all these files/folders from the organiser, how else can i get shot of them?.
All back up files on my PC have been cleared, theres nothing left on the pc , we have un&re-installed elements 11 - but still all these phantom  photos appeared in the organiser again.
can someone PLEASE HELP!!!??
thanks

First you have to understand that the organizer does not store photo files. It only stores the path (location on the disk) for the real photos. If photos have been deleted, moved or renamed out of the Organizer, not from within the organizer, the saved path is wrong but still in the list.
- You have two choices : either use the file menu to reconnect missing files -- then select all -- then delete all. That will remove all missing files from the Organizer list. Alternatively, you can simply start a new catalog.
- Note that if you have your organizer edit/preferences set to 'watch' folders, that means that all new files in the watched folders will be searched for and you will be prompted to import them. In your situation, I would disable this preference in the edit/preference menu so that no automatic process tries to import new files.

Also when I upgrade does it have to be with a monthly membership or can I just purchase the product out right like you use to be able?

You cannot "update" from what you have to any of the applications you mention. It will have to be a straight purchase or subscription at full price.
Photoshop is a professional level application that makes no apologies for its very long and steep learning curve.
Lightroom is all about volume, and very light editing.

  • Elements Organiser - Copy photos to location

    Hi,
I have been a mac user for a long time and just moved to pcs. For organising my photos i decided to use the Elements organiser.
My only problem is that with iPhoto it used to move all the photos i import into a /pictures/iphoto directory or something like that. Is there a way to make the elements organiser do the same?
    Thanks,
    Nikhil

    Nikhil,
When you upload pictures from your camera, you can direct PSE where to store them by defining the location in the appropriate Preferences dialog. From the Organizer's menu, click on Edit > File > Get Photos and Videos > From Camera or Card Reader. You can do something similar for pictures you scan in the Scanner section of the Preferences dialog. Once set these preferences will be used automatically unless overridden.

  • Restoring old photos using E9

Is it posible to restore an old photo that has been partly sun bleeched using Elements 9?
Any tips would be very welcome.

This was good practice for me -- I never was any good at colouring black & white photos.
The original photo is a B&W that was hand-coloured.  You can tell by looking at the photo left arm and the photo left eye for the places where the colour bled into adjacent areas.  Also, there is red remaining in the cheeks, even though the rest of the face is bleached out.  This suggests that a retoucher used very finely powdered rouge to colour the cheeks, and those solid particles would not bleach as much as the dyes used for the other colours.
So, hatstead's idea of eliminating the colours and starting fresh with a B&W image is a good one.
The thing I wanted to avoid was having areas of solid featureless colour, so I decided that I'd hand-paint everything and thus get more realistically varied tones.  Turned out that the Color Replacement brush worked very well for that --
    Duplicate background.
Convert to Black & White: "Portraits", "Contrast" +7.
    Rectangular Marquee to select the faded area in the center of the image;
Transform Selection: "Skew" to align with the edges of the faded area.
    Save Selection as "Faded Area".
Quick Selection tool:  select the clothes.
    Save Selection as "Clothes".
Select...Load Selection:  "Faded Area" as "New Selection".
Select...Load Selection:  "Clothes" as "Subtract from selection"  This makes a selection of the faded area on the wall as well as the face and hair.
    Select...Refine Edge:  Smooth:  0, Feather:  3.1px, Expand:  +3%.
Levels Adjustment Layer (masked to that selection):  0, 0.73, 255.
Select...Load Selection:  "Clothes" as "New Selection".
Select...Load Selection:  "Faded Area" as "Intersect with selection".  This makes a selection of the faded area of the clothes.
    Select...Refine Edge:  Smooth:  0, Feather:  3.1px, Expand:  +3%.
Levels Adjustment Layer (masked to the selection):  0, 0.96, 255.
Highlight the 3 layers (B&W, both Levels layers) and use Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E to merge them into a new layer.
Healing Brush tool:  "Normal" mode, Source:  "Sampled" to clean up lines, etc., left from the Levels adjustment.
Burn and Dodge tools targetting the Midtones at a strength of 4% to paint the folds and even out the tones in the photo left arm.
Burn and Dodge tools (same settings) to strengthen the appearance of the buttons and fabric edge of the center of the sweater.
Burn and Dodge and Spot Healing Brush to fix photo left eye.
Spot Healing Brush to fix blemish on upper lip (photo right), and on photo right upper arm.
    Finished B&W image:
Color Replacement Brush, constantly varying the brightness and saturation of the colours to colour the image.
Quick Selection tool to select the child, then Inverse to select the background.
    Save Selection as "Wall".
Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, masked to the "Wall" selection, set to "Colorize".  Hue:  199, Saturation:  5, Lightness:  -26.
Smudge Tool on the H/S mask to modify the edges of the hair.
Blur Tool, Strength:  56%, on the H/S mask to soften all edges:
    Selection...Load Selection:  "Clothes".
H/S adjustment layer, masked to the "Clothes" selection, with a Saturation:  -35 to tone down the colours of the clothes and bring their colours more in line with the face.
Crop slightly to remove the white areas at the edges of the image.
The layers wound up like this:
    And the final image:
Besides the practice with using the Color Replacement brush, I learned that using the Smudge and Blur tools on a layer mask is a great way to soften the edges of that mask.

  • I had Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 on old computer but find folder is now empty is it possible to restore from Adobe?

I had Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 on old computer & transferred to new computer - this file is now empty, so I must have deleted photos.   Is it possible to restore them?

Photoshop Elements 4 is too old. It was written for PowerPC Macs and will not work on new Intel Macs. There is nothing you can do about it.

I imported photos from an old iPhoto (2001) to photo library and can now see them only as thumbnails but not when I click on them. The screen is black cannot see or print either. Is there any way to salvage those old photos? I now use iLife09. OS 10.6

Did you import the old iPhoto library into the new one? That's not what you want to do because you will import all of the original, modified and thumbnail files as if they were original files. Lots of duplicates and useless small photos.
Do you have a backup copy of the library that you imported into to?  If you do then bring it in and then use  iPhoto Library Manager to merge the two libraries into a new, 3rd library.
If you don't then you'll have to try to fix the current one and then cull out the duplicates and small useless photos as follows:  make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library and apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home()/ Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library /Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If this doesn't fix the problem you'll have to start over from scratch and create a new library from the files inside the Originals folder of your current library.  But first you should cull out the small photos that would be the thumbnails from the 2001 library.
Move the Originals folder to the Desktop, open and do a search for Kind=photo, File size is less than 10 KB.  That should find all of the thumbnail files which you can then drag to the Trash.  You might have to make that less than 50 KB. Then Import the remaining photos into a new iPhoto library.

  • Elements Organiser with iPhoto

Is there any way to use Elements Organiser along side iPhoto but keep it from creating a duplicate photo library?  I want to keep iPhoto as my library organizer, but wanted to use Elements Organiser periodically to use the "create" tools like cards.

You can set up the PSE Editor as your external editing application in iPhoto preferences. You can then edit photos directly from iPhoto.

  • W do I transfer Photoshop Elements 9 from my old computer to my new one?

I want to transfer Photoshop Elements 9 from my old computer to my new computer running Windows 8. I don't need to transfer photos. Just the software. Is this going to be a pain?

no problem, just re-install pse 9 onto your new computer and activate with your serial number.
if you no longer need the original pse 9 installation, deactivate it (help>deactivate) and then uninstall it.
if you need the installation file for pse 9 and if you follow all 7 steps, you can dl a trial via one of the links on this page:  http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-9-premiere-elements-9-direct-download-links.h tml
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a dl problem, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  typically, failure to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 is the problem.

  • Images viewed in elements organiser appear over saturated compared with acr or editor

    Hi,
I've been struggling with this for some time now. When veiwing images in elements organiser (10) the images have started appearing more saturated than in either adobe camera raw or photoshop elements editor window. They used to always match. I've tried reseting all the colour presets, I've tried changing every setting I can find in acr and I've resorted to a full re-install of elements (including deleting the presets). None of thise have solved the problem.
I'm pretty sure it is the organiser view which is over saturated rather than acr / photoshop which is washed out as, although mostly quite subtle, sometimes the colours are pushed much too far. (I'm only describing it as saturation as that's how it looks - I couldn't say for sure that it is acutally a saturation setting rather than some other colour setting which is causing the issue).
Every so often  organiser updates it's images as I veiw them to match acr but I've not noticed any one reason why that happens - and if I shut organser down and restart it's back to over saturation again.
Any suggestions would be greatfully recieved,
    Stuart Martindale

    Ken,
Thanks for getting back to me. You're right - it would seem that if I have every thing set to always optimize for computer screens then everything looks the same. Ideally I wouldn't have that set though - the photos are all taken with adobe RGB colour space and we are more given to big prints than sharing on screen.
This never used to be a problem and I've always previously optimised for printing. The pictures are definitley adobe RGB and checking in canon DPP the raw veiw there is the same as ACR so it is the initial organizer colouring which is at fault. I would rather use optimize for printing as we tend to make big prints from our photos rather than sharing electronic albums. Following the suggestion I've done some more playing with settings and found the following situations:
    1) If opening organizer when set to optimize for printing the image opens with the wrong colouring. Changing to optimze for screen and update thumbnial and the colouring corrects. Changing back to optimize for printing update thumbnail and any subsequent changes and the colouring stays correct.
    2) If opening organizer when set to optimize for computer screens orgainzer opens showing the right colouring. Chaning to optimize for printing and update thumbnail causes the colouring the change. Changing back to optimize for screen and the image corrects it's self. Changing back to optimize for printing and any subsequent changes and the colouring stays correct.
So in summary the first thumbnail viewing optimized for printing is over satuarated / vivid. Changing colourspace away and back seems to correct the problem.
If the colouring is correct for one photo it will update to be correct for any other images viewed.
If there is a way to make optimized for printing photos display correctly on first opening that would be great.

  • Elements 3.0 Trial expired - photos trapped

I failed to heed the warning to register while using the trial version of Elements 3.0 to store photos.  Now I am locked out and the code no longer works.  Tech support will not help me get to my photos.  Help please?

Elements 3 is four or five years old, no longer supported by Adobe.  The pictures are not "trapped", they are on your Windows PC's hard drive.  If you did not use a catalog back then, you can just open them in Windows or with any image viewer.  If you want access to the old catalog you can start out by downloading and installing the trial version of the current edition of Elements, PSE7.  It will convert the old catalog.  If you like PSE7, you can purchase it and go from there.
