Lightroom Imports Photos Upside Down

I just started using Lightroom to import my photos directly from my camera. It worked fine for the first few times, but now it is reading all of my photos upside-down.
XP's Camera Wizard correctly reads the orientation from the camera, so I think this is something specific in Lightroom. I've checked the settings, but didn't see anything about orientation.

I venture to say the recipient is a Windoze user and if so, state of the art Windoze ignores or doesn't recognize photo orientation data that is included with a photo's EXIF data.
There are 3rd party photo viewing apps that provide for this but not incorporated with Microsoft software.

I think that this is a philosophical question. I, for one, hold my iPad in landscape mode with the Home button on the right-hand side and in portrait mode the Home button is on the bottom.

When it is viewed on the computer (Mac Pro, Mac Mini, via Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Opera) it is fine.
When it is viewed on the iPad (original, no camera), it is upside down.
It stays at the wrong orientation regardless how the iPad is rotated.
This does not happen with all photos on this site.
Any ideas?

Cameras can embed orientation data into images so that display/editing software can automatically show them the right way up. The second (and third) images would both appear to have been rotated without amending the orientation data so that the iPad sees them as being "upside-down" and corrects. I downloaded the full size original of the second image and Picasa also displays the image upside-down. Under properties it gives Orientation: Rotated 100 Degrees.
Now we know why, there is the separate issue of whether or not the iPad should obey or ignore orientaion data for images rendered as part of a web page. It certainly leads to an inconsitency with other views of the same page.

Photo orientation upside down since ios8 update

This is odd... since the ios8 update, my 5s has started taking photos upside down. They appear correct in the 'viewfinder', but in my 'recently added' they are inverted. While taking the photo, the top bar (which contains the flash settings, HDR, timer and front/back camera switcher) is also upside down. Is this a known issue since the update? Here's a photo of what I mean - and although it looks like the photo in the thumbnail is right-side up, when it is opened, the photo is upside-down.

I've noticed that the first picture I take is OK...it's all the subsequent pics that are upside down. If I leave the camera app then come back to it...same thing....first pic is OK and all the rest are upside down. You can tell before you even take the pic...the flash text (on/off/auto) on the top of the screen will be upside down

Since the iPad has no real positioning, you can take a photo from any position. However the camera does have an up and down reference. so if you rotate the iPad the camera may end up side down or on its side. And as such the picture will end up like that too.
The iPad embeds a special instruction to each picture to tell any App that opens it the proper orientation of the picture. If the App used to open does not support the instruction it simply won't rotate it.
You can rotate it manually in an image editor, or yes as you found out take the picture with the proper orientation of the iPad.

How to make iCloud photostream show upside down photos in correct orientation

My question is related to iPhone 5s/iOS 7.1.2, Camera.app, iPhoto 9.5.1 (902.17) for Mac, iCloud shared Photostream.
I have taken photos with iPhone 5s upside down (using volume buttons, i.e. Home button on the left) and loaded them on my Mac (MacBook Pro 15” mid 2012 with OS X 10.9.4 with iPhoto). I copied the photos from the iPhoto photostream into iPhoto library in an album of their own and rotated the upside photos in the correct orientation. Then I shared the photos in iCloud and the photos which I had roated to correct orientation where once again upside down. And when I drag&drop the photo (which has the corrected orientation) from iPhoto library album into a Finder folder the photo is once again upside down when I open it with Preview.
I have a notion that all Apple software on Mac shows correctly the iPhone upside photos (because it reads the photo metada) and practically all non-Apple software both on Mac and PC doesn’t use iPhone photos’ metadata and show the photos upside down.
Is there any way to make iCloud show the shared photos in correct orientation in the browser without rotating the photo with external application in iPhoto or is there a bug in iCloud or is the iPhoto rotation a "fake rotation"? I want to ensure that people with whom I share the photos, see it always in the correct orientation (no matter what the platform is) so that they don’t have to struggle with rotating of the stuff and I don’t have to take extra steps to rotate the upside down photos outside iPhoto.
N.B. 1: I understand that in the future I always have to shoot photos and videos with iPhone Home-button on the rigth side (i.e. volume buttons pointind down). My question is related to the photos I have already taken.

That's the answer to your question. Why is it you want to avoid this?
Because it is an extra step. So, I already rotated the photo with iPhoto's rotation functionality, but the rotated photo is upside down in iCloud photostream. I think it should stay rotated when shared in iCloud. The other problem is that if I forgot to rotate the photo before sharing it in photostream, I have to delete the photo from the photostream and add a rotated version from the iPhoto library in photostream and now the order of the photos is incorrect. iCloud adds the last shared photo as the first photo in the stream. At least I haven't found a way to place the new photo in its original (the correct) palce in the stream.

I've been thinking about what could cause your JPEG's to Rotate 180 degrees, and only have one possibilty. However, I do not know if PrE 3 would even have this.
Still images can have metadata included. If one does some light editing, such as orient vertical images in viewers, like Organizer, the actual images are not physically Rotated, but just flagged as being so manipulated, and instructions on its display are included. Did you have to Roatate these stills 180 degrees? Was the camera turned upside down?
Now, if one were to open such a file in PS/PSE, and actually applied a Rotation to the image, then Save it, the image would now be oriented correctly. This would not be a metadata flag, but the pixels would be physically Rotated.
What is the history of these JPEG's. I am thinking as hard as I can, and cannot come up with a way/reason for Rendering to flip the JPEG's.

JPG file opens fine on server and fine in Google Chrome but Upside Down in IE11

We have a jpg file that is on a server. When you link directly to the file so that there is no HTML or CSS code, it opens fine in Google Chrome but IE is flipping it upside down. I have access to the server itself, the computer with the jpg file on
it, and when I open it in file explorer (not internet explorer) it opens in the default picture view program just fine. The picture was taken with an iPhone. Is there a way to disable this unwanted picture flipping in IE?

In Windows try right clicking on an iPhone photo and selecting Properties -> Details Tab.
Scroll through the list of EXIF metadata.
Now open the same photo in a decent EXIF viewer and see how much extra EXIF metadata is presented.
The image below highlights one piece of metadata not exposed by Windows - orientation.
To avoid problems try deleting all but the most basic metadata. See for example

Are you using the front or rear camera? When you say they are low quality, are you referring to file/pixel size, or how the picture looks? As far as upside down, how are you holding the phone? Older versions of Windows have issues reading the Metadata from the pictures and will not display the same.

Hi The problem I think ou are experiencing is because of the way you turn the phone to take pics. With the phone vertical (home button at the bottom) the pics you take will appear the right way up in all applications, the problem will occur when you hold the phone horizontally. If you hold the phone with the home button to the right the pics you take will appear the right way up in all applications, if you hold the phone with the home button to the left the pics will appear the right way up in the camera roll and some other apps that understand the iphone camera rotation but in other apps (iphoto and windows explorer are two) these photos will appear upside down.

I usually record hockey games in Landscape mode with the Home Button of the iPhone on the left side with the screen facing me. That is the mov file IMG_0063.MOV
Apple's QuickTime Player displays it correctly, while the VLC player, which ignores exif flags plays it upside down. So does the Plex Media streamer ignore the flag, so does the thunderbird mail app ignore the flag, and so on. Adobe looks at the exif flags so they get it right.
My movies are of four Post It Notes, each one describing the location of the Home Button. Take a series of four pictures oriented like my test MOV files , then take 4 short MOV files of the same iPhone orientation. If the results are "misoriented" then the software you are using to look at them is ignoring the orientation flages.

You need to clarify your statement/question a little bit more. What device are using to take the photo? I assume that you are using your iPad, but I don't know that for a fact because you simply say "whenever I take a picture". I also assume that you are using the built in mail app and not a third party mail app, but can't say for sure about that either without more details from you.
When I take a photo with the iPad, if I attach/insert a photo in an email directly in the mail app, the photo defaults to the actual size, which is the highest resolution that it can be. The size of the photo can be made smaller, but it defaults to the largest size.
