Elements 12 Organizer unable to preview .mts video files

I am using Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1. I have the newest version of Apple QuickTime (7.7.6) installed.
I import .mts video files from my Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 for organizing along my still photos. I am absolutely certain that previewing the video files in Elements Organizer used to work fine at least before I upgraded from Elements 11 to 12. Maybe it also has been working in Elements 12, but I cannot tell for sure. Now, instead of a preview, I get the error 'The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compressor/decompressor (codec) installed'. If I add one of these files to an Premiere Elements video project, however, the file plays nicely from the Premiere timeline.
I have tried downgrading my Quick Time versions all the way down to 7.3, with no result.
Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong?

  • How do I get Elements 13 64 bit to play .mts video files with sound as they do in Elements 11 32 bit?

I have upgraded to Elements 13 64 bit from Elements 11 32 bit and .mts video files now play without sound - they still play perfectly with sound on Elements 11 32 bit.
Is there something that needs to be changed to get Elements 13 to play them with sound or have Adope simply hooped .mts playback in Elements 13 64 bit?
I am running on Windows 8.1 Professional with Media Centre on a Dell XPS15 and have Elements 13 64 bit and Elements 11 32 bit installed.
Adobe, how do I get the support that is supposed to be available for 90 days after activation?

    Hello jl666,
I have noticed the same issue having upgraded to PSE13 64bit from PSE9 on Windows 7.  This has been reported to Adobe in several forum threads and I have myself tried on three occasions to get Adobe Technical Support to acknowledge or respond to this issue, so far without any success.
Despite the fact that Adobe publically claims to support this format, I was told in my last chat with their technical support that I should buy Premiere Pro and that Elements has never and does not support any video data...
Unterstützte Dateiformate | Premiere Elements, Photoshop Elements
Here is my chat transcript which I attach in the hope that someone from Adobe will take this issue seriously and work towards providing a fix.
Sanyogita: Hello. Welcome to Adobe Technical Support.
Jon Barber: .MTS files no longer play with sound. .DV files no longer play at all.
    Jon Barber: Hello
Sanyogita: One moment while I look up your customer record.
Sanyogita: Please allow me a moment to search for the information.
    Jon Barber: ok
Sanyogita: I can see you have PSE 13
Jon Barber: Correct and previously PSE 9 where everything worked fine...
Sanyogita: MAy I know which application are you using for >MTS files
    Sanyogita: .MTS files
Jon Barber: This issue is mentioned in various threads in your forums as well, but no response or solution from adobe yet
Jon Barber: Organiser just double clicking on the file to play it. They play, but with no sound. When I play them in Windows the sound is correctly played
Sanyogita: In PSE 13 there is no provision of playing videos with sound
Sanyogita: You need premiere pro to play videos with sound
Jon Barber: Other formats are correctly played with sound.
Jon Barber: Please tell me why I have paid €80 to upgrade from PSE9 to get worse functionality then!
    Jon Barber: This is nonsense!
Sanyogita: You should purchase Premiere pro for videos
Sanyogita: PSE 13 is only for photos
Jon Barber: Complete nonsense and not advertised in your documentation. Are you trying to tell me that no video files play with sound, because that is simply not true!
Sanyogita: Please purchase Premiere elements for videos
Jon Barber: Adobe sucks - I will pass your comments onto the appropriate forum threads and hope that other customers also let you know how they feel about this reduction in functionality from previous versions.
Sanyogita: previous versions of PSE never supported video application
Jon Barber: You are misinformed. These videos work fine on PSE 9 and most files still work on PSE13, just .MTS files have no sound
Sanyogita: I am sorry ,I am not an expertise in this product
Sanyogita: Let me connect you to that team
Jon Barber: Yes,I can tell that - perhaps you could pass this open bug onto someone who does
Jon Barber: Please do not close this bug - I am getting annoyed at having to reopen it
Sanyogita: Please stay online I will transfer your chat now
    Jon Barber: ok thank you
info: Please wait while I transfer the chat to the appropriate group.
info: You are now chatting with Jayita Sen.
Jayita Sen: Hello. Welcome to Adobe Technical Support.
Jayita Sen: Please allow me a moment while I look into your account & verify the details.
    Jon Barber: Hello
Jayita Sen: John we only support download &  first installation of PSE 13
Jayita Sen: please contact the forums for further support
Jon Barber: This issue is mentioned in several forums and no solution has so far been forthcoming from Adobe.
Jon Barber: I paid €80 to upgrade from PSE9 and now have worse functionality than before and now you are telling me you cannot help. Is that what Adobe considers customer support?!
Jon Barber: By the way I did recently download and initally install PSE13 so according to your rules you should provide support.
Jayita Sen: Jon we don't support "Unexpected behaviours or how to issues"
Jayita Sen: only forums support it
Jon Barber: This is not a 'how to issue', it is a bug!
Jon Barber: It is functionality that previously worked and no longer does. I am not requiring lessons in how to use the system, just trying to do something that already worked in previous versions.
Jon Barber: Frankly I find these support responses from Adobe shocking. What I expect to hear from you is 'thank you for highlighting this issue, we will work on finding a solution and get back to you and others with the same problem in the customer forums" Not an extraordinary set of excuses for poor software.
Jayita Sen: I am sorry Jon...but forums is where you can only get the support
Jon Barber: Customers having to help customers since clearly no-one at Adobe has a clue about their own product. How many customers do you expect to have in 12 months with this service?
Jon Barber: Goodbye - please contact me if you are geniunely interested in helping your customers rather than fobbing them off with excuses.

  • Cannot get  mts video files to play in Elements 11 organizer

Whenever I try to play an *.MTS video file in Elements 11 organizer I get a codec not installed error.  I am using a Windows 7 PC running Windows 7 Home Premium.  The same files played fine in the Elements 10 organizer.  Also have no Thumbnails after import of the video.  I can edit the videos in Premier Elements 11.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 10 running on? And, does your computer use a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card?
IMPORTANT. Please read the Announcement at the top of this forum regarding the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce issue. That Announcement describes the problem and gives detailed information on how to deal with the situation.
Do you have problems getting a video display in the Edit area monitor for still and videos from other sources?
Also of importance in directing the troubleshooting are the properties of the Panasonic Lumix FZ150 video file that you are importing and the project preset that you are selecting to match the properties of that video. From what I have read of your camera, you could have MPEG-4, AVCHD, or MotionJPEG video compression. But, with that .mts file extension, that would suggest that your camera is set to record AVCHD. Is that correct?  Are you sure of the file extension and video compression for the file?
The answers to all of the above will point us to the solution to your issue.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thank you.

  • AVCHD (MTS) video files thumbnails previews

    Hello,
How can I have video thumbnail previews for my AVCHD (Mts) video files in Premiere, After Effects?
I can preview alla the other formats but not the above one.
    Thank you.

    cdlansford
Hunt is correct in that the video codec AVCHD (MPEG4 AVC/H.264) was not supported by Premiere Elements until version  7. A variety of converters were used in those days before Premiere Elements 7 (because of AVCHD non support) and after versions 7 - 9 because of the resource demands of the AVCHD editing in those programs.
Typically the converters in those days took the AVCHD to a MPEG2 HD.mpg form. The most popular one at the time was the free Koyote Soft HD converter. You may want to check it out and determine if it would work for you.
    http://www.koyotesoft.com/video-software/free-hd-converter.html
As I recall there were a lucky few at the time who had Sony Vaio computers which offered an add on for AVCHD support in Premiere Elements 4 running on a particular Sony Vaio computer.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thanks.

  • MTS video files

How do I import MTS video files from my Sony Handycam HDR-CX160E into Premiere Elements Quick Editor?

    Welcome to the forum.
Until just the other day, I had never heard of PrE Quick Editor, but it seems to be a limited program, sold from the App Store, for a Mac.
There might be some tips that can be extrapolated from this recent thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1272658?tstart=30
Not specific to MTS files, the OP was trying to locate their media files in other folders, than those indicated by PrE Quick Editor. The extrapolation would indicate that the program definitely wants the media files in those specific folders.
If PrE Quick Editor will handle MTS files, I would Copy the entire folder structure, with the media files (all folders), to the My Videos folder, and then Import the media files from there. I do not know if PrE Quick Editor has the same naming conventions, as PrE 11 does, but in PrE 11, one would use Add Media.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Can't open a .mts video file

I used to be able to open any video file just by double clicking on it's icon, usually opens MPEG Streamclip if it isn't supported by Quicktime. However, now I can't open a .mts video because it says I need MPEG 2 - Playback Component installed. I used to have that but it's disappeared for some reason. Is there another way to open a .mts video file?

Have you tried changing the MTS extension to TS and opening the file with the QT X player?

  • Need help with conversion progrma for MTS video files.  Can't download videos from Sony TX-10 camera

Have new macbook pro 13".  Can't download videos from our Sony TX-10 camera.  I understand I need some kind of conversion program for MTS video files.  Need recommendation for a good conversion program to convert the video files.
    Thanks, chieftd

Well, sigh, that's not going to work.
I love how I can do months of research to choose the best camera for my needs and budget, which is NO easy task these days, but surprisingly find it on the unsupported list when it's a very popular camera.  So, while it seems to support a whole bunch of other AVCHD options from Sony, not the NEX cameras.
The NEX cameras are the latest generation of mirrorless cameras (which, ironically, are great b/c they give dSLR quality still images while actually producing HD video that always records silently and stays in focus b/c it's mirrorless).  The NEX 7 was just reviewed as Camera of the Year.
    Bleh. Oh well. Maybe someday.
And, for anyone reading, Roxio Toast Titanium did convert it just fine but it took about 20 min or my time to set up a handful of clips and then a couple hours to complete converting them for the quality I was looking for.  One was about 10 minutes of a kids' performance on Christmas and it took a long time. It's just not feasible given how many video clips I do with the camera a week - well, feasible when you consider all the cameras where this would be seamless.
Thanks for posting your reply - I appreciate it.

  • Unable to import/preview any video file using Lightroom 5/5.2

    Hi,
I am a fairly new user to Lightroom (around 4 months), and have been fascinated by the capabilities of this software when it comes to photos. From the start, I used to notice (but chose to ignore) that lightroom would not be able to import any of my video files successfully (all in supported formats such as avi, mov, mp4, usually mov from my Nikon DSLR). Recently, I have started digging around to find a solution for this and fix this issue of not being able to preview or import any video file. I have gone through most of the related posts around the interwebs about this (including installing QuickTime, checking my AntiVirus, checking specific processes whether they are running or not). As a last attempt to resolve this, I am hoping to get some expert help on this form. As a sample of the error message which I get to see everytime is attached below. Also given below is my system info. I can provide further debugging information if required, but I really, desperately want this to work and be able to import videos. Thanks a bunch!

  • Elements Organizer (v12) not displaying AVCHD video after import

I installed Premiere Elements 12 on my Windows 8 (x64) computer.  After I import a MTS (AVCHD) video from either my camera and/or my hard disk, the audio plays but no video is displayed.  The MTS file (video + audio) work fine in every other program on my computer, including the Premiere Elements video editor.  The only place it doesn't work is in Elements Organizer.  I can even preview the video in the "Get Videos and Pictures from Files and Folders" import window from Organizer.
After importing the MTS file into the video editor, I exported it to AVCHD and tried importing the Premiere created AVCHD file in to Organizer but no luck.
Seems like there's some kind of plug-in issue, but I can't find any info on that.  The codec must be fine, because the MTS file play everywhere else.
    Appreciate any help/insight.

Thank you so much! Although it's not exporting quite as clear as before, it's much, MUCH better now that I've corrected the timeline dominance - I'd say 95% better; and it will be re-compressed by my clients for web streaming so it doesn't need to be perfect - but the initial quality was garbage.
I suspect when I exported my T2i footage as a ProRes file, than imported into After Effects, then back into FCP something happened along the way that messed up the quality slightly. Although the only difference in my method between FCP5 and 7 was converting to ProRes; which I only did for editing purposes as the native T2i footage needs to be rendered... which ended up being redundant as all my After Effects work needed to be rendered anyway. Ho hum.
Do you think the ProRes conversion could account for the quality loss? It wasn't just the footage that was grainy/fuzzy, it was also the After Effects graphic work, which is why I didn't think the converstion could be the culprit. Hm. I'll have to look into this more!
Thanks again - and so sorry for my delayed reply, I went on vacation shortly after I posted that message and only just got back to this project now

  • Sony WX7 .mts video files not imported into iPhoto 11

Apple indicates iLife ’11 supports AVCHD (.mts) files, however, I've been unable to get iPhoto 11 to import video files from the Sony WX7 camera. Photo's are imported properly via both usb and directly from the SD card reader in my Macbook Pro (i7) 2011, however, video files are not.  I've read that iMovie '08 supports Sony AVCHD 2011-model video cameras, but iPhoto 11 appears not to.
Mac OS X v10.6.7, is fully up to date. Has anybody found a solution?

Not sure where you are seeing that AVCHD is supported in iPhoto '11 but it is not - use iMovie to import your AVCHD movies - that works for my my Sony DSC-HX5

Which Canon camera model? Elements 7 is probably just too old to use the required Camera Raw plugin for your camera.

  • Full motion preview as video file icon?

is there a way to give a video file a finder icon that shows a full-motion preview, much like the small clip that plays when you highlight a video file in frontrow? thanks!

    Hi gazer,
I'm not certain about a Finder icon to assign to a video clip but here's an example of what you can do.
Open a Finder window. Select "Column View" from the buttons just right of your Forward/Back buttons. Now, in the Sidebar on the left, click Movies, (or whatever file you keep videos in, it's handy to keep them in the Sidebar)... a list of video files will appear. Just select one. A video clip will appear in the column to the right and you can view it that way. If need be you can Customize your Toolbar in any Finder window. Just open a Finder window, then in the Menu top of your Desktop, click View/Customize Toolbar.
    Hope this helps...
