Elements 12 quirks - open multiple images, open in expert mode, color variations?

Just converted from Elements 12 to 10.  Struggling and trying to avoid cursing Adobe for what I'm currently thinking of as "screwing up the interface" for no apparent reason, but we'll see.  Maybe I'll get used to it.
Meanwhile, some functional issues that make no sense...  Maybe someone knows what I'm doing wrong?
1)  In all other Elements versions (which I started using before it was called "elements" so it's a long time) I could select multiple pictures in windows explorer, right click "open", and as many pictures as I had highlighted would open in Elements, all shown in the photo bin.  In Elements 12, some apparently random number of photos open.  Sometimes 1, sometimes 2, sometimes maybe even 3 (although that's not consistent), but never "all the pictures I selected".  I don't know how it picks which pictures I should be allowed to work on and which I shouldn't, but I disagree.  How do I get it to do what I want?
and, fyi, please don't tell me about file associations - that has nothing to do with it, Elements 12 KNOWS that it's my default program for this filetype...
2)  HOW do I get it to open in Expert mode all the time?  I shout "I AM AN EXPERT" at my screen while opening, but it doesn't listen.  ALWAYS opens in "quick" mode.  Doesn't seem to be a way in the preferences.
3)  There used to be a way to make quick adjustments to red green and blue color balance - under Enhance/Adjust Color/Color Variations.  And once a particular variation was done, the next time you opened that dialog the same adjustment level was already set.  Gosh.  I can't imagine why anyone would want a consistent way to apply the same color balance adjustment to a series of pictures that were all shot under the same imperfect lighting conditions.  Much better to have to tweak each one separately and individually, reinventing the same set of adjustments over and over again.  Or, am I missing it?
4)  How do I get the default save to be "10", not "8"?
I know I'm a bit crabby, sorry - I'm just not happy having to re-learn how to do everything I already know how to do, just because someone somewhere thinks a new interface is a good marketing technique. Doesn't anyone learn from Microsoft?  NO one appreciated the new Office interface, and NO one buys Windows 8 because they love the interface...
Thanks,
Todd

  • Photoshop CC crashes when opening multiple images

    Has anyone else got this problem of PS CC crashing when trying to open multiple images? If you open one file at a time, there are no issues, but 2 or more and it crashes as shown below. I've tried it with JPG's, TIFF's and PSD's and still get the same problem.
    I've also tried starting it while pressing alt/ctrl/shift, but still get the same problem.
    PS CC is version 14.0, 32 bit, running on Windows 7 which is up to date. I do only have 4GB RAM, of which PS takes 60% of it according to the system info panel. Could this be one of the causes, or is it a bug in the software? I never had this problem before in CS6 or previous.
    Thanks in advance.

    Found it eventually!

  • Is it possible to open multiple images in Photoshop as smart layers?

    Hi All,
    After searching, I think I know the answer to this but thought I'd check, we have background plates with main images and love the open multiple images as layers option - but can you open multiple images as multiple smart object layers?
    Cheers

    This might work.
    Edit: But it is a lot less sophisticated than the Load Files into StackScript.
    // select folder and place contents as smart objects;
    // 2013, use it at your own risk;
    if (app.documents.length > 0) {

  • How to open multiple images in photoshop cs3

    Hey, what im trying to do is open multiple images in photoshop cs3 and then blend the images together. But the problem that i am facing is that i can only open one image at a time. Can someone tell me step by step how to do this.
    Thanks for the help
    Michael

    i dont belive i have tabbed view, what i just did, was i draged one photo into phtoshop and then another. When i look to my right, only one iamge shows up in the layers and the other seems to have dissappeaed.
    It seems that having a tabbed view is useful, how do i set photoshop to this?

  • Suddenly can't open multiple image files in CS5

    I recently transferred LR 5.3 and CS5 (12.04x64X) onto a new PC (OS Windows 7 64-bit). Both programs are working fine individually. And single images in LR open just fine for editing in CS5. But when I try to open multiple images (to merge as a panoramic) or open multiple images as separate layers, nothing happens.  CS5 opens on top of LR, but the files themselves never open. No problems doing this a few days ago with my older computer (same programs, same operating system).
    Any suggestions for fixing this would be much appreciated.

    When you say nothing is showing up, do you mean it is as if you didn’t use File / Open, or is it more that there is something but it is gray or white or black without any image detail?  If the latter, perhaps something like a video driver update or system-level change has made things incompatible with how PSE11 tries to display images.
    Have you rebooted?
    Have you reset your preferences?  You can do this by holding down Ctrl-Shift-Alt at the same time while PSE11 is starting up (or at least while the editor is starting up) and you’ll get a message about deleting the preferences file or not before you see the splash screen.   Various other key combinations will ask for an additional plug-ins folder or a different scratch disk location.  If you are going to delete your preferences file you might want to review the settings, first, in case there is something important you need to reconfigure once the preferences have been reset.

  • Preview won't open multiple images

    When I open one image in preview, it opens fine. If I open a second image, the first image disappears. If I try and open multiple images at once, the drawer slides out, but it's empty, and again, only one image will show up. Any ideas?

    Hello, if you cannot figure out how to fix the issue I have a nice PDF combiner and exporter, you can write in any application, Text Edit, Pages, Word, and export to PDF, combine with this tool.

  • How To Place/Open Multiple Images Into Separate Layers For ONE Document?

    I've been searching for the answer for a long time so I figured that someone here has to know.  I have PS Elements 9.
    So I would like to make GIFs and I know how to do so, the problem is placing in those tens of files in layers (it's tedious).  Is there a way to select multiple image files to place into a single document?  And for them to be place into its own layer?  I've tried dragging and selecting from the Open/Place menus (won't allow), SHIFT + Direction Key from the Open/Place menus (won't allow), tried opening them to drag on the Organizer and to drag from the Project Bin (again won't allow), and I've read tutorials where they say to use scripts and actions but I'm not sure what to download them in order for them to work and the links are broken anyway.
    An example of what I'd like to do:
    Open and place in 15+ screenshots into layers but in just one document.
    Each screenshot would be one layer in said document.
    ...rest of GIF process...
    I feel like there's an easier way to get this without placing in each one at a time.  I remember being able to do this on a old PS (though not Elements).  Thanks for any help.

    The quickest method is probably opening all images together from Full Edit:
    File >> Open
    Then navigate to the folder and use shift+click to select a block of files.
    The images will appear in the photo bin. Drag and drop each one into the main editing window and a separate layer will be created for each.

  • Open multiple images as one layered file

    Hi!
    I'm doing a gif animation in PS and have five pictures that I need to have as layers on the top of each other. At the moment I'm opening them and copy-pasting them on one of the images to make layers, but this is slow and sometimes confusing with all the images open at the same time.
    Is there any way to just tell Photoshop to open all the files so that they are automatically stacked on the top of each other as layers? Please tell me this is possible!
    Any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks!

    Yes this a CS3 feature, although I remember it being avaiable as a separate download somewhere - it works w/CS2 (and 7 I think).<br />I'll copy it below, save it in Notepad, name it "Load Files into Stack.jsx" (no quotes) and put it in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Presets\Scripts\<br /><br />// (c) Copyright 2006.  Adobe Systems, Incorporated.  All rights reserved.<br /><br />/*<br />@@@BUILDINFO@@@ Load Files into Stack.jsx 1.0.0.0<br />*/<br /><br />//<br />// Load Files into Stack.jsx - does just that.<br />//<br /><br />/*<br /><br />// BEGIN__HARVEST_EXCEPTION_ZSTRING<br /><br /><javascriptresource><br /><name>$$$/JavaScripts/LoadFilesintoStack/Menu=Load Files into Stack...</name><br /><about>$$$/JavaScripts/LoadFilesintoStack/About=Load Files into Stack ^r^rCopyright 2006-2007 Adobe Systems Incorporated.   • Open multiple images from the project bin

    In Elements 9 I can only seem to open 1 image from the project bin at a time! What am I doing wrong?
    Bob Dunkerley.

      You need to double click on your main image and then drag your second image up from the project bin. That creates separate images on separate layers.

  • Opening multiple images

    Ive converted an Action which opens multiple  (about 60) images into photoshop into Java script.
    which creates a rather lengthy result  as it opens each image separately
    here is 1 of 60 parts  of a single opened file
    // Open
       function step2(enabled, withDialog) {
         if (enabled != undefined && !enabled)
           return;
         var dialogMode = (withDialog ? DialogModes.ALL : DialogModes.NO);
         var desc1 = new ActionDescriptor();
         desc1.putPath(cTID('null'), new File("/z/ANIMATION/RendersFolders/BatchLevel_0/Folder1/Face_0001.jpg"));
         executeAction(cTID('Opn '), desc1, dialogMode);
    Is there a way in which i can code this to utilize the single path structure, while merely appending each jpg to open
    as an example,  something like this?
    // Open
       function step2(enabled, withDialog) {
         if (enabled != undefined && !enabled)
           return;
         var dialogMode = (withDialog ? DialogModes.ALL : DialogModes.NO);
         var desc1 = new ActionDescriptor();
         desc1.putPath(cTID('null'), new File("/z/ANIMATION/RendersFolders/BatchLevel_0/Folder1/Face_0001.jpg, Face_0002.jpg, Face_0003.jpg, Face_0004.jp"));
         executeAction(cTID('Opn '), desc1, dialogMode);
    Can something like this be done?
    Thanks for any help

    Mike's example is a standalone script and will open all the files in the array.
    another example:
    This will allow you to select a folder of JPG's, it will then open all of them in Photoshop.
    var inputFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Please select the input folder");
    var fileList = inputFolder.getFiles("*.jpg");
    for (var a in fileList){
        open(fileList[a]);

  • Cannot open multiple images in Photoshop

    I recently purchased a new laptop (OS: Windows 7 Enterprise, 32 GB RAM) and installed CS5 on it.  All of the applications work well except for Photoshop.
    At first Photoshop would load correctly but crash when I tried to Save As.  I deleted the preference file upon startup and that fixed the problem.
    Now every time I open more than one image in photoshop, my screen goes completely black. It doesn't matter whether I try to open them sequentially or all at once.  The most I can have open is 2 images.  When trying to open a 3rd, or when selecting more than one file to open all at once, the screen goes completely black. Eventually the screen does come back on, with the error that my AMD driver stopped responding and recovered.  But now Photoshop is frozen and I have to close Photoshop through the Task Manager. My video card is AMD FirePro M6100 and has been checked for driver updates.
    Do we know what could be the source of this problem?  And how can I fix it, I often need >2 images open at once.
    Thanks!

  • Preview app not responding after having multiple images open

    Several images were opened using the preview app, the app stopped responding and I can't send the images to either iphoto or even delete the images.
    I can force quit the program but evertime I open an image the preview app opens and stops responding. Is there anything that can be done to prevent this?

    I can't seem to reproduce this with 10 connections. Can you start from a console and post a stace trace?

  • Fireworks CS4 will not open multiple images in tabs

    Run into a problem with CS4. I frequently open 10+ images at the same time using Fireworks CS4. My problems is, whenever I highlight and click the 10+ images from desktop, they all open in Fireworks, but only 2 are tabbed. The rest of the images are in a floating window. How do I fix this? This is really frustrating.
    Here's a screenshot of my problem: http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/5766/327201180331pm.jpg

    Things have now become significantly worse!
    Now when I try to open anything from Bridge, or try to open PhotoShop at all, I receive a popup that gives me 2 options: 1) License PS CC, or 2) continue with my trial of PS CC.
    So far as I know, I have not downloaded any trial of anything from Adobe in many months. In fact, I have no interest in PS CC. I wish simply to use PS CS6.
    I have uninstalled my Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard, of which my PS CS is a part, and reinstalled it but I still am blocked from using my properly licensed programs.
    Please advise.
