Elements 13 and iPhoto

I just purchased Elements 13. I use a Mac with Yosemite 10.10.2 and iPhoto 9.6. I think I am supposed to be able to click the edit button in iPhoto and it will launch Elements so that I can edit photos in that program. I have changed iPhoto preferences to do that, but it doesn't load Elements when I try to edit.

Maybe you didn't select the correct app in Support Files?
You need to first do the set-up in iPhoto prefs.
- Open iPhoto and choose iPhoto >> Preferences.
- Select the General tab.
- Click the Edit Photo menu and select In Application.
Then navigate to:
Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 13/Support Files/Photoshop Elements 13 Editor
Highlight the editor application (Photoshop Elements 13 Editor not Adobe Photoshop Elements 13) and click Open
Then close iPhoto Prefs.

I have photoshop elements 9 and iphoto does not show it in my advaced preferences drop down, it used to be there, how do I get it back again?

Hi, Yes you are correct in iPhoto Prefernces, Advanced tab editing I used to have iPhoto and "Use external editor.". It changed to iPhoto and iPhoto Library. I have einstaleed PSE 9 and downloaded the update.  There is still no lkink to external editor in the drop down box.  Have I done something wrong inadvertently or is there a clitch?  can you reinstal iPhoto.  I am new to Macs. Every thing came preinstalled.  it is the top of the range system with 16 Gb of rRAM, 2 Tb hard drive to top graphics card etc.  I used to be on Windows PC.  Have more than 27,000 photos on the system.  Much apprecite your reply and interest in this.

  • Elements 10 and iphoto 11

HELP please.  I'm beginning to think I'm using Elements 10 and iphoto 11 totally wrong.  After installing Elements 10, I imported my entire iphoto library, and went through the very long process of placing all photographs into the same albums as they are in iphoto.
When I want to import any new photos into the Elements organiser, I seem to have to import first into iphoto, then save these also to a separate document folder, and import into Elements from there.  Then when it comes to editing in Elements , the edited version won't save back to iphoto - so I now seem to have all photos and their edited versions in Elements 10, and just the initial unedited versions in iphoto.  I've read through various posts on setting the preferences in iphoto and elements, and they all seem to be set correctly.
Another weird thing too.  When I save a photo in Elements 10, it saves to a really weird folder, like Wkvrlk 34nljvd.  Where is it?    The whole thing is probably quite straightforward, but I just haven't managed to work it all out.
    Any help please????

You are on the path to complete insanity. Do you want to use iphoto or organizer to store your photos? You can use either one, but you need to choose. If you aren't sure, there's a temporary way to try organizer without giving up iphoto.

  • What are the problems with Photoshop Elements 10 and  iPhoto in Mountain Lion?

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and would like to install it on my new iMac with Mountain Lion. I have read about compatibilty issues with iPhoto.  Is there a way to correct this or is PSE 11  a better option?

Can I suggest posting this question in the iPhoto forum?  There are some true iPhoto wizards there who probably know the answer to your question.

  • Elements 10 and iphoto 9.4.2 display problem

I am using elements 10 apple app store version to edit photos kept in iphoto 9.4.2. On saving edited version of photo from elements back to iphoto the resultant image is displayed vastly magnified. No changes have been made either to elements or iphoto saving/display settings so my question is, is there a problem with the link between elements and iphoto since the iphoto 9.4.2 upgrade. Despite checking I can find no updates for the app version of elements 11.

Thanks for your input unfortunatly it has made no effect. I have now tried editing image within iphoto and saving and no magnification problem is caused on reopening image.
I am no computer expert but it does seem to me to be a problem with the elements/iphoto interface that is causing the problem.

  • Photoshop Elements 9 and iPhoto

    Hi
I am still struggling with compatiblity between these 2. I have set PSE 9 as my external photoeditor. When I double click on a jpeg thumbnail in iphoto it opens PSE but doesn't transfer the image. I can only transfer the image by dragging it across.
This is more of a hiccup than a major problem. However, after editing, I save my image by clicking jus the save button and it takes it to another file outside iphoto although I have set it to be saved directly over the original. Then when I come to import these edited images into the photo library, only some of them will import. For the rest I get the message " Unreadable Files 1. The following file could not be imported (The file is in the iPhoto Library)."
In case it makes any difference, the actual editing involves adding a layer with my company logo and adjusting the lighting; nothing very sophisticated.
I'm just trying to get all my photos together so I can upload them onto my website but they are now all over the place! Help? Please?!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you edit a photo and end up with one that has layers and want to keep the layered version you must save it to the Desktop and import as a new file. Otherwise the following may be of some help is using PSE from within iPhoto.
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • Elements 6 and iPhoto

I am trying to open a file(photo) in Elements 6 straight from iPhoto.
Every time I try to access an event it hangs up, when I go look in a folder and select an image they disapear, again I have to force quit to get out.
Is there an issue between iPhoto and Elements 6 that is preventing this?
    Thanks
    Pete

    Pete:
First here's how one should use PSE from within iPHoto (I may be preaching to the choir here):
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
So any time you try to open an event to look at the photos iPhoto hangs, right? First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. See if that will help. If not, try the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Working with Elements 6 and iPhoto

I am big time confused, not even sure if in the right forum, but will give it a go..
    Working with new iMac 10.5.6...2.66
    Just installed Elements 6
Will someone walk me through the downloading of photos. I have read so many instructions my head is ready to burst.....
The Missing Manual states better to use bridge then iPhoto?????
Where do I compile my library? iPhoto, PS Elements, Bridge???
Which program do I use to download???
I will study the editing after i figure out how/where to Organize my photos.
I know this will sound elementary to most.
Did some work with Picture It on my old PC, so hv a idea where i would like to go, but cant figure out how to get there..
    Many thanks!!

The Missing Manual states better to use bridge then iPhoto?????
That is a personal decision - I much prefer iPhoto - it is much more powerful than bridge but there are people who prefer bridge -the key is that you can not use both - you must make a decision - they both do photo organization and bridge is highly likely to corrupt your iPhoto library
Where do I compile my library? iPhoto, PS Elements, Bridge???
Again - your choice - PSE is not a photo organizer - it is a photo editor and will work just fine with either bridge or iPhoto
Which program do I use to download???
    The one you choose
If you chose iPhoto then by default it will open and give you a download window to download your photos when you connect your camera or put your memory card in an USB card reader (the recommended way to import photos).
If you choose Bridge then you need to go to the Adobe forums or read the manual - and need to set the the iPhoto (or image capture) preference for the correct action when a camera is connected
If you choose to use iPhoto then you will want to set PSE as the external editor in the iPhoto preferences

  • Connection between Adobe Elements 12 and iPhoto

I want to use  Adobe Elements 12 for Mac as a external editor in iPhoto. It works for a part: Elements opens when i use the button 'Edit' in iPhoto. But I do'nt see the photo in Elements. How can I solve theis problem?

Yes. I did misunderstand the web page. I thought it tablular with rows and columns but, in fact, it's sectional.
So the big box with file entries against "French" actually means that these files apply to all the languages in that section.

  • I use OSX version 10.8.5 and iphoto on a MAC.  I upgraded to elements 12 and in IPHOTO it keeps going to Elements 9???  Help please - how do I make it reference the new version???

I have a MAC and use IPHOTO and had used Adobe Elements 9 as the external Editor and IPHOTO as default.  NOW I upgraded to Adobe elements 12 and IPHOTO only recognoizes Adobe Elements 9???  HOW do I make it go to the new external editor??  I appreciate any help you can provide?

You need to reset the external image editor in iPhoto's Advanced preference pane to the right version. I assume there's an Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 folder in your Applications folder.  This screenshot is for PSE 10 but would be the same for 12:

  • Printing problems with Elements and iPhoto on OSX 10.5.7

I am having problems with printing photos on my printer (Canon iP4000) since getting the new iMac with OSX (10.5.7) and using Photoshop Elements 6 and iPhoto. The Canon printer driver (and all my other data) were copied to my Mac by the techs at the Apple store from which I purchased the iMac. (I previously had a Mac G4 with OSX 10.4.11 Panther.)
Photos that used to come out crystal clear and brilliant on the printer from the G4, now are faint with kind of a white veil. When I try to print in Elements, I get a message that says "Some PostScript specific print settings (Interpolation, Calibration, Encoding) will be ignored since you are printing to a non-PostScript printer." I really have no idea what that means. Anybody?
Text printing comes out fine, both from word processing documents and web pages. I am using the latest printer driver (4.8.3) for the iP4000 (probably 4 years old or so), and there are no new driver downloads available for it. I trashed the Canon software/drivers and reinstalled, to no avail.
Canon Support has been helpful and have made many suggestions, but none has worked. I tried printing with Canon's EasyPhotoPrint app, and the photos print fine. So the problem appears to be a compatibility of the printer with Elements 6 and iPhoto.
Has anyone else had this experience? Does anyone have an opinion if this means I need to get a new printer? If so, any suggestions on a good, moderately priced one for Leopard on the iMac that will definitely work with Elements 6 and iPhoto?

The v4.8.3 driver she has is the latest version Canon has supplied.
Given the driver is working okay from some other applications, there has to be something amiss with the colour management of iPhoto and PSE6.
For iPhoto, as a test I would suggest the Color Options > Color Correction is set to None to see how this impacts the printed image. Then I would try the BJ Standard and ColrSync settings to see how the output is affected.
During the Color Options trial, ensure the Quality & Media > Media Type is set to the appropriate paper type, such as Photo Paper and the Print Mode be set to Top Quality Photo. With regards to the Media Type setting, some of the paper stocks have a profile associated with them. If you use Photo paper but use the Plain setting, then you will get a washed out print.

  • IPhoto with Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 and Adobe Bridge

I have not used iPhoto before now as I have been downloading photos from my Canon and Nikon cameras using their software. I have now moved everything into iPhoto but cannot find iPhoto using Adobe Bridge so I am unable to do any editing using Elements 4. Previously I could find the Canon and Nikon photos using Adobe Bridge. With a simple click on the relevant photo it opened up in Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 and I was able to edit it. Now using Bridge I simply cannot find iPhoto thus I cannot use PSE4. Can someone help before I go crazy ? I havde called Apple support but they have been unable to help me and suggested using Discussions@Apple

Many thanks for your quick response although, as a new iMac user, the mere mention of the word "corrupt" scares me ! I previously used a PC with Windows XP and PSE3 and loved being able to sort all my photos into albums with PSE3. Unfortunately the PSE4 which I have installed on my iMac doesn't let users sort their photos into albums and the only alternative is Adobe Bridge. I only recently started to use iPhoto after a visit to an Apple Store and it's great being able to catalog my photos so easily. Unfortunately PSE is far and away superior to any editing software that iPhoto has to offer. Anyway, I'll cross my fingers and try your suggestion first thing tomorrow morning.

  • The Basics on Integrating Photoshop Elements and iPhoto

I've been using iPhoto and PSE 4 for several months, and love what I can do with my pictures, but I haven't mastered exactly how to integrate the two. I'd really like to continue using iPhoto to organize my pictures, but I'm just not sure I "get" how to deal with pictures I've worked on in PSE and then want to bring back (with changes) into iPhoto. I guess I'm asking for ideas on a simple, effective workflow for a hobby user with a fair number of pictures to manage. It would be helpful to me to understand some of the "behind the scenes" stuff...why things should be done a certain way; this makes it easier to really "get" what's happening, and not have to keep re-reading what to do. Thanks.

When you import RAW files into iPhoto, the RAW is tucked safely away in your Originals folder, and iPhoto immediately places a jpeg version into the Modified folder. So if you open what you think is a RAW for editing, you are really just getting a JPEG. iPhoto can't edit RAW files at all. So, if you are importing a RAW and a jpeg version of every shot, then you are in fact doubling your library.
I agree that it is easiest to set up Elements as your external editor in iPhoto. I do this (and only use jpegs, too). Select photos in iPhoto, double-click to open in Elements, edit, save. This save creates a modified version in iPhoto and is reflected in the iPhoto library immediately. However, if the file name or extension changes and requires a Save As, this will not link to the original in iPhoto. So do any Save As-ing to a folder outside of the iPhoto library, then import to iPhoto as a new original. In iPhoto I have a keyword to identify photos that I've edited in Elements. It used to bother me that I spent all that time editing a photo, only to have it get mixed in with all the others. With my "edited in PE 4" keyword I can find all my best edits quickly. This is my workflow for editing jpeg files.
My suggestion for your workflow with RAW files is to use Image Capture to upload from the camera to a folder - anywhere NOT inside the iPhoto library folder. Elements has a great RAW editing workspace, so with your RAW files in a non-library folder you could access them directly from Elements if you like to tweak your RAW files.
Then you have a choice. You could import the edited RAW files into iPhoto. Any subsequent editing would be done on the jpeg created in the Modified folder. You would not need to import your camera-created jpegs at all. (Unless you want to compare how your photo looked before and after you tweaked the RAW in Elements.) (Perhaps you had already imported the jpegs so you could view in iPhoto before you finished editing the RAW versions.) OR, leave the RAW files outside of iPhoto and only import the jpegs. But then, tweaking the RAW files wouldn't be that helpful, since you wouldn't see the outcome in iPhoto. Not a good choice, I guess. The bottom line is that if you want to edit your RAW files as RAW files, you should do so before importing into iPhoto.
iPhoto automatically adds a RAW keyword to RAW files, so they're easy to find. An organizational suggestion is to create separate film rolls in iPhoto for RAW and jpeg. So if you import some photos today you could name one roll 20070123...RAW and the other 20070123...jpg. There may be a good reason to keep the jpeg versions independently from the RAWs, but I can't think of one specifically. Is it easier to print from jpeg? Does it make exporting faster, since you don't have to convert the files as you export? I honestly don't know, because I've never used RAW.
I don't have a simple answer, but maybe this information will help you decide what works for you.

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

  • Pse 8 for mac and iphoto 09

I read on the elements 8 for mac page that it works easily with iphoto. My question is how?
I can find nothing in the elements documentation about working with iphoto and when I try to access the iphoto library via file>open and select iphoto library and click open I get a message telling me my request could not be completed because of a program error. I am using iphoto 09. I am new to both elements and mac. Can anybody help? Just how does elements work with iphoto?
    Thanks.

Thank you so much Barbara for those two helpful sentences !
You cannot believe the amount of time I have spent today trawling forums and knowedge bases trying to solve various problems with PSE8 (Mac).  It took me over an hour just to get past a couple of install gremlins !
On the front of the PSE8 (Mac) box it clearly says "Works with iPhoto"  which is why I simply cannot believe why Adobe have not put a similar couple of clear bolded sentences in the minimalist "Getting Started" pamphlet.  Or better still bring up a dialogue box when you start the application to offer to auto config the link to iPhoto.
Another thing that has added to my frustrations is that the intro video tutorial, starts of talking about using Organise in PSE7 for Windows?
After spending so much time developing this Mac version of PSE, it feels like the basic top 10 things to get new users started have been overlooked in the rush to get the product to market.  Such a shame.
Anyway I am sure that the PSE8 (Mac) will prove to be an indispensible product, but must confess it has been unbelievably frustrating today.
However I suppose the silver lining is that I have now found this forum, so will no doubt be coming here often over the coming months !
    Thanks again,
    Andy
