Elements 13 won't save .jpeg files

I have NIK collection installed and used it to create 2 layers. Now the save as..,. won't save as anything but .psd files. Is there a fix or workaround for this.

Actually, I have just done a test.
With a 16bit/channel image I can't create layers but I can save it as a JPG. I think that PSE 13 automtically converts it to 8bit/channel. Also, if the 8bit/channel image has layers then the PSE 13 will flatten it when saving as a JPG.
So, I haven't any idea why JPG can't be selected from the Save As dropdown list. It is defaulted to PSD but I can always change it.

  • Elements 2 won't save a file as JPEG

    Hi:
    os is win xp sp2 home ed. using elements 2 for a very long time but suddenly, it will not save an image as JPEG. the file saves as a JPEG (but no thumbnail image) and can not be opened by any program - including elements 2! Elements 2 will save a file as TIF, PNG & BMP but no longer as JPEG! must be some simple thing I've done to interfere with the 'save as' process. would appreciate and tips you can offer on this.
    thanks,

    You could try re-setting preferences -- as you start Elements press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (hope I'm remembering that right) and follow through the dialog box.

  • Adobe Reader Version 11.0.10 won't save pdf file as original file name

    We are currently using Adobe Reader Version 11.0.10.
    When we open and existing pdf file then make any changes (using the Fill & Sign Tab at the top right hand side) then click Save it won't save the file.  We have to re-name the file in order to save it.
    This was working ok back in January and wondered if there has been an up-date since then that has made this error occur?
    Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.  We have tried that but it has not made any difference.  Adobe still requires a new file name to save the file.

  • Appleworks won't save DB file as ASCII

    My AppleWorks Database won't save the file as an ASCII (for export) Save As, only offers AppleWorks and Claris Works options. I know in the past ASCII was an option, but for some reason no longer?
    I am running AW 6.2.9 on a PowerPC G5 running 10.5.8.

    Did you move the AppleWorks application from the AppleWorks 6 folder, separating it from its necessary folders - AppleWorks Essentials, Clippings & Starting Points? The AppleWorks 6 application & the above mentioned folders must be in a folder named AppleWorks 6 & this folder must be at the first level of the Applications folder. Not keeping all these "parts" together will break translators, spell check, updaters, etc.

  • How to save jpeg files in iPhoto

    I would like to be able to make changes in Photoshop and then be able quickly save a jpeg file in my iPhoto library (Version 9). From what I could deduce, the only way to do this would be to save the file to my hardrive, then go to iPhoto, choose the import to library under the File menu and then locate the file I want to import. Is that really the quickest and easiest way to do this? Or is it possible to save the file directly to the iPhoto library from within the Photoshop program?

    Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
    1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
    2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
    3 - however, if you get the navigation window
    that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
    This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
    NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
    I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Note 1: screenshots are from PSE 10
    Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Cannot save JPEG file from RAW file edit.

    After editing NEF raw file 8 bit channel in Elements 9 > open image> edit again> save as JPEG maximium> OK. Then end up with broken file image in organiser. Will save as a PDF file. Edited JPEG's saved. Previous edited NEF files (sucessfuly saved as JPEG) will not save as JPEG this time. OS MAC 10.6.8. Do I need to re-enstall? Dread the thought of re organising thousands of images even when tagged.

      When you click on the open image button in the Camera Raw dialog make sure the dropdown menu doesn’t show 16 bit. If it does change to 8 bit and then click open image. You can only save jpeg in 8 bit mode.

  • How to save JPEG files in PSE5.0 ?

    OK. newby Q again.  how the heck does one know what to choose when it comes to saving an image as a JPEG?  the following three boxes pop up:
    IMAGE OPTIONS:
    QUALITY>
    FORMAT OPTIONS:
    BASELINE>
    PROGRESSIVE>
    SIZE:
    up to 2 MBps?

    Generally, if you're going to archive your photos as Jpegs, you would want to save them in as high a quality as possible. This would be with the slider all the way to the right or number "12".
    Usually "Baseline standard" would be the way to go. This writes the photo in one pass to the screen.
    "Progressive" writes the photo in 3 passes across the screen, and is usually used for uploading and viewing large files within a web page.
    The "size" dialog box you're referring to, gives you the approximate time (in seconds) required to upload the photo with 56.6bps internet. (dial up) At least the time is referenced to dial up internet in PSE5. So the speed dialog box gives you this information, [1st]; size of photo (in KB) [2nd]; time to upload, (in seconds), [3rd], reference internet speed.
    If you plan on re-editing your photos at a later date, you should consider saving in a lossless format. Both PSD and TIFF file formats support saving in layers, and don't "recompress" the file each time it's worked on. "PSD" is Photoshop's native format, so it could be argued that this would be the better of the two. Since a scanner in "lossless" mode would save in TIFF, Photoshop would need to convert those files to PSD. A jpeg file would be better suited to a photo in which the editing process has been finalized, and is heading to the printer, or perhaps Aunt Martha in an Email.
    A final thought is that the quality you use to "jpeg" a file, and the file size itself, is largely purpose dependent. For example a photo that you intend to make public on "Flickr" should be down sized and and jpegged at medium quality. This in the event that the photo is downloaded, your work will not be at full resolution and quality, therefore limiting its usefulness to viewing only. In any event, a photo uploaded to the web absolutely should be a COPY, do not tamper with an original in the manner in which I've just described.

  • InDesign CC won't save my files

    Hi
    I've been working in InDesign for a week now and since yesterday I started noticing that at times InDesign won't undo and I am not able to save my file. I keep hitting command + s while working but it just doesn't save or give an error message. If I go on the File menu all the save and save as commands are grayed out. If you close the file and click on the save button InDesign just gives a message that the file cannot be saved. I have to close the file without saving and redo all the work. Because InDesign doesn't give an error when pressing command + s I would do a lot of work under the impression everything gets saved but it doesn't and I keep losing a lot of work.
    Also CC runs very slow. There are times when the program just "freezes" for awhile while InDesign does somethings in the background and only after it is done you can start working again. The pages panel takes ages to load the previews onto the pages and while it is doing so I cannot do anything at all.
    Starting to think I should have stayed with CS6.

    @all – the above JavaScript (ExtendScript) in post #34 cannot work as expected on Mac OSX.
    At best you will save a file named "Test\test.indd" on the desktop…
    Instead I would recommend a slightly altered version:
    var myFolder = new Folder("~/Desktop/Test");
    if (!myFolder.exist) myFolder.create();
    app.activeDocument.save(myFolder.fsName + "/" +Date.now()+"_test.indd");
    See the "/" instead of "\\".
    I changed it, so every time you execute it (and if it will not throw an error!), you'll get a new file with an unique file name.
    ("Date.now()" should be sufficient enough to generate a new sequence of a 13 digit number every time you try).
    Or maybe even better: save a copy of your file:
    var myFolder = new Folder("~/Desktop/Test");
    if (!myFolder.exist) myFolder.create();
    app.activeDocument.saveACopy(myFolder.fsName + "/" +Date.now()+"_test.indd");
    All testing on Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    @BienzBliemer – I think, the above script(s) will not work in your scenario, because InDesign has not finished something that goes on in the background. A hidden modal dialog that is not answered should not be the problem, because you can start up a script …

  • Music won't save to file gallery with 5800 express...

    I downloaded songs from the web before, but recently, they won't save to the file gallery. It just says music downloaded, but doesn't save. I can add music via ovi or dragging and dropping on my laptop, but not by downloading from sites on the web. I show 5.7GB free space, so memory card isn't full either.

    Did you refresh the Library to confirm this ?

  • My downloads won't save, always "file not found." Doesn't seem to be profile or plugin problem

    One day out of the blue, I started noticing that my usual downloads won't save to my designated folders, images, pdfs, and etc. Sure, the progress bar will indicate that it is being downloaded, but once it finishes it just disappears like it never existed. If I hover over the thing, it just shows "file not found." I can even see the file disappear right from the folder it was being downloaded to. I thought it was just a temporary bug since using plugin download manager like FlashGet works fine. Then I noticed even simple image with right click Save As to designated folder won't save as well. I tried looking for solutions: deleting download.rdf (not found); resetting download settings under about:config ( browser.download.dir
    and browser.download.downloadDir not even found); clearing download history; delete downloads.sqlite and mimeTypes.rdf; and even running in safe mode. Nothing helped. I'm about at my wits end. I haven't changed my internet or security settings at all recently.

    It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
    You can try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files (Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows)

  • Safari won't open jpeg files

    Safari 6.0.5 does not open jpeg files. Is there a preference I need to change? Or something like that?

    I can't say that I know whether that's normal behavior for Safari, but it's easy enough to find out.
    Boot into Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.
    Test. After testing, reboot as usual and post the results.

  • Elements 8 won't automatically download files

    Although I've checked the "automatic download" box on the advanced dialog for downloading files, Elements 8 will not automatically download files when I connect my camera to my computer. Instead, I have to manually go into the organizer and click File->Get Photos from Camera or Card, which pulls up the downloader. Then I still have to select the device to download from - even though it's connected and the organizer recognizes it, I have to do everything manually.
    Any suggestions on how to remedy this?

    Hi,
    Launch Photoshop Elements Organizer and click Edit>>Preferences>>Camera or Card Reader.
    Here, select generic device under download options and click EDIT.
    now select automatic download from the drop-down menu, click ok and restart organizer.
    This should work!

  • TextEdit.app won't save new files to sub-firs of my Documents dir

    This just started happening recently. Right after I installed the last Pages update AAMOF.
    I can successfully save a new document (.rtf) file to my Documents, but not to any sub-dir. The error dialog box says it can't save because file doesn't exists. And, this gets logged to the console:
    TextEdit[283]: view service marshal for <NSRemoteView: 0x7fe8cb422cd0> failed to forget accessibility connection due to Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=4099 "Couldn’t communicate with a helper application."
    It's just TextEdit that's doing this, no other apps seem too be affected.

    Thanks Griff W,
    I ran disk utility, and although it reported lots of permissions issues with the iBooks app and some Printer stuff, nothing related to TextEdit.
    I've done a little more investigating...
    This is only happening on my i7 iMac at work. Everything is fine on my MacBook Pro and my i5 iMac at home. So, I guess we can discount the Pages update having anything to do with this.
    Everything is up to date, updates wise, on all of my machines listed above.
    I did enable FileVault encryption on my work i7 iMac around the 1st week of August. That could have possibly messed something up with TextEdit??
    Again, this is just happening with TextEdit, when trying to save a new document to a sub-directory of my Documents dir. Similar saves to other directories and/or sub-dirs work just fine.
    If I save a new TextEdit document to my Documents dir, that works. And, if I then move it to a sub-dir, I can successfully edit and save it again with TextEdit.
    This is the message I get in the TextEdit dialog box when doing a failed new document save: The document “Untitled” could not be saved as “See.rtf”. The file doesn’t exist.What the heck does that mean anyway? The document/file "Untitled" doesn't exist.. well of course not, it's a new document!
    I do have a bad habit of keeping unsaved "notes, reminders, todos, etc." as TextEdit documents laying around. And, doing logouts, reboots, etc. with these "unsaved" documents still laying around. Could that have contributed to this issue?
    This isn't exactly a show stopper, I can work around it. It's more annoying then anything. Any ideas on how to fix things will be appreciated though.

  • PSE6 Mac OS - Save For Web won't save JPEG high res setting in Preset

    Why is it that, contrary to documentation, Save For Web won't remember that I always select JPEG High for every photo file I save? Each time, it comes up as "Custom" Low quality, and can't even remember that I want JPEG format. My reliable old copy of PSE 2 that I've used happily for six years was capable of remembering what I wanted out of Save For Web. There are always surprises with new Adobe versions, I just wish there were some good ones once in a while...

    I tried on my mac machine with PSE 6 and saved one file as PNG-24 and some settings. I saved the file.
    next time when i opened any other image and tried using save for web, the previous settings were remembered.
    So, i m not sure if the issue you facing is common to all.
