Elements 6.0 effects window

when i enable the effects palette (Windows -> Effects) - I get the drop down pallate with the 4 options (filters, layer styles, photo effects and all) - but there is nothing in the window. I have no 'filteres' or anything to select. What am I doing wrong?

The account you run Elements in needs to be in an Admin account.

Can't see vray render elements in after effects.

Not too sure where to post this so i'm placing it in various forums, I'm working with 3Ds Max 2011, Vray 1.5 sp5 and After Effects CS4.
I want to save a render with various render elements such as zdepth, material and object ID etc all saved into a single .exr file so i can bring animations into After Effects and do DOF changes and colour changes quickly. The problem is that if i render the image and do a manual save as an exr it won't show any of the vray render elements when i bring it into AE.
If i set it to auto save as a Vray raw image but change the extension from vrimg to exr then it saves all the render elements but I lose the 'save as exr' dialogue box where i can chose bit depth and compression type.
If I render the image and save manually as an exr then i have all that but it won't save vray render elements, after using extractor the screen is just black.
In short i just want to be able to 'save as' an .exr and be able to see my render elements in the render, i've posted some screen caps below to show everything is as should be, any help is appreciated.

But the screen is black afer using extractor, the layer is in there as can be seen when it's moved out of position

fnordware, thanks i've put the files on megaupload, the links are below. i tried doing an auto save as you suggested but to no avail, as i say it will work if i tell max to save as a vray raw image and just change the extension but not as a simple 'save as'.
I've simplified these files, they should only have an rgb, an alpha and a zdepth. Anything you can give me will be much appreciated.

By the way i don't have the proexr plugin if that makes any difference but i think that's just to be able to see and select the channels like photoshop layers.

Runtime error on effects window

Everytime I access the effects window I get a runtime error that crashes the program. I have reintalled the program, performed updates to the program and windows, and still no change.

Please say what version of Premiere Elements that you are working with and on what computer operating system it is running?
Would you characterize this issue as "it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before"?
What content and how much content do you have on the Timeline when you go for Effects and are hit with your runtime error?
What are the properites of your source media on the Timeline and do they match the project preset that you or the program has set?
Let us start here and then decide what next.

I already know how to use Freeze frame and save the image to my computer by Publish+Share/Computer/ Immage.

This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. We are all visitors here.
Just a bit of history....back in the days of Premiere Elements 4, you could set a "poster frame" in what was called the Project area. You did this by right clicking a blank area there and, from the drop down menu that appeared, selecting View/Preview Area, and using the poster frame feature there.
As I said, when a video imports into Premiere Elements, the thumbnail of the import has been presenting as the first frame of the video. With this Preview area "poster frame" option, you could set the video's thumbnail in the Project area so that the first frame was another frame in the video. But, this "perk" was restricted to thumbnails of the video in Project area.
If you exported to file with the first frame modified video, the export's thumbnail in Windows Explorer would present with other than the real first frame or the poster frame as the first frame.
Also, in more recent versions, I have observed that the export to file does not display the real first frame of the video in Windows Explorer. Seems random, but I have not kept track.
And, remember, at the onset I wrote
As far as I have ever seen, Premiere Elements Windows uses the first frame of the video for its thumbnail in the program.
I know of no way within Premiere Elements to control what the program opts to do in this matter. In some compatibility
issues, it opts to give no image but a generic one.
I did not say that you can expect to have the Premiere Elements' export file's thumbnail in Windows displaying with its real first frame. And, the more you get into this, depending on the versions, more details need to be added to my comment about "...first frame of video for its thumbnail in the program..."
I would have to look into all this further to get perspective on the contributing factors.

You are allowed to have two activated installations. If you happened to have one on this Windows 8 machine before, it is possible that the activation used for it was never deactivated (did you deactivate it before you upgraded Windows?). Talk to Adobe support thru chat. They might be able to resolve this with you:

I've been using FCP 7 on my iMac for quite some time with great success. Lately I created a new project and the browser window does not format properly (it's O.K. for previously created projects). The effects window is also not displaying properly.

Help! My browser window is suddenly not formatting properly. (losing browser formatting, glitch, bug) I'm using FCP 7 on an iMac with OS X 10.8.5 and have been successfully doing so for a couple of years. I fear my Final Cut Pro is corrupt and I have to re-install. Anyone ever see this problem? Old projects display and behave fine in the browser, but any new project I create, totally loses the formatting in the browser and the browser also does not display the "effects" window properly anymore. Is Photoshop Elements 11 compatible with Windows 8.1? I got a new computer 2 months ago and have been loading in my photos and pngs slowly and tagging all of them. If I understand correctly, even though I am saving the tagging to the metadata, Elements warns me that it will not save to pngs, which is what most of mine are. As I have added about half now (about 100 hours of tagging) my computer is freezing up and will no longer open my Elements. My computer completely froze and needed tech support for several hours to get anything to work again. The tech support couldn't find any malware to explain this problem and have concluded that the Elements is not compatible with my operating system. I have not been really pleased with this computer from the start and am not totally convinced that Elements is the cause of the initial lock up of my computer. I am willing to purchase a newer version of Elements if that is the problem, but am worried I will get a newer Elements, go through the loading and tagging process and have the same thing happen again, especially if I have to retag everything I just did. I cannot find anywhere that specifically states whether Elements 11 is compatible with Windows 8.1 (only windows 8). Before I go to a lot of trouble, does anyone know for sure whether Elements 11 is compatible with Windows 8.1? Thanks,Donna

PSE11 will run as a 32-bit application in W8.1-64, PRE11 will run as a 64-bit application.

Installing Photoshop Elements 2.0 on Windows 7 64-bit

Yes it's an old version but it will work on Win7 64-bit SP3, and it isn't feature-neutered and UX-impaired like subsequent versions of Photoshop Elements.
Yes copy the Photoshop directory (the one with setup.exe) from install disc to your desktop. But before doing anything else, do this:
Make sure Internet Explorer is turned off under Control Panel:Programs:Programs and Features:Turn Windows Features On/Off (use Chrome or FF instead - you know why)
If it's enabled turn off IIS as well.
Voila: Elements 2.0 installs and runs great on Win7 64-bit. In fact it runs screamin' fast, especially with > = 4GB of memory.

Photoshop Elements 13 running in Windows 8.1 hangs immediately after starting

Photoshop Elements 13 running in Windows 8.1 hangs immediately after starting. Has to be shut down by Task Manger. Task Manger shows that it is still using some CPU. Ran Procmon (part of Sysinternals) which shows that it is in a loop. Stack trace shows it is executing code in AMTValidateProductLicense.dll. Started happening about a month after I installed PSE. Everything used to work fine at first. Have tried going back to an old image of Win 8.1 on a different hard drive, otherwise same computer, and installed PSE 13 from DVD. That installation never worked, it aways hangs. If I do a clean boot, it sometimes runs long enough for me to click on a menu item and then hangs the same way. And, yes I bought a new DVD to run on this computer, never been used in any other way. Any ideas how I can get PSE running properly?

It really doesn't look like a licensing issue, it seems to be code in the area of license validation that isn't working.
I took your suggestion and initiated a couple of chat sessions with support, but so far still no luck. The latest session with Neeraj seemed to be promising. After some investigation he asked to reinstall. First he uninstalled with Revo Uninstall, which seemed to be pretty thorough. That required a restart, so he set things up to restore his conference session and took my phone number. Unfortunately I guess his connection didn't come back. When I didn't hear from him after a couple of hours I tried installing Photoshop and Premiere myself. As before, Premiere works and Photoshop doesn't. When I start Photoshop, the window opens and for a couple of seconds menus open when I click on them. Then the window freezes and I have to use Task Manager to kill it. So basically, I've tried several things but I'm back where I've been all along, I can't get Photoshop to work. I'd really appreciate suggestions about something else to try.
I wish someone at Adobe was interested in the Process Monitor traces I've made, because I'm sure someone who knows the code would be able to figure out pretty quickly what's happening. Is it trying to read a file that's not there, failing to write a file, failing to make an internet connection or what? It really shouldn't be this hard to figure out.
