Elements 6 and Cs crash on loading

I have been using photoshop elements six for over three years now with no problems on a mac Powerbook G4 running on OSX10.4.11.
This program will now not run. It goes through the start up menus until it gets to "building twain menus" then crashes. I also have the CS creative suite and that does exactly the same thing.
I have uninstalled Elements 6 and reinstalled from the disc (twice) but the problem still exists. I have downloaded a twain plug-in but this does not alter anything.
Any ideas!!

Have you made any recent changes to the OS?
This sometimes causes a conflict with TWAIN.
Have you been to the website for your scanner manufacturer to ensure you have the most up to date drivers installed.
Have a look at the above tech note which may be of help.

Generally, it's ok to install on two machines as long as they are both yours and you only use one version at a time.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 (and 7) crash too much in Windows 7

Photoshop Elements 8 and 7 have a terrible crash problem in Windows 7 and
also did in Windows Vista.  It seems to happen when going from the editor
back to the organizer (after an edit session).  Am I doing something
wrong?  This is a terrible problem.  I love the Photoshop Elements
editor and the organizer but can't stand this crashing!

    Thanks, Dean...
It looks like I might have found part of the problem.  I've followed some other advice on here on eliminating the welcome screen by using a short cut directly to the organizer.  However, it is more unstable for some reason when calling the editor from the organizer after loading it that way.
I went back and loaded the program through the welcome screen and it did much better.  That's kind of strange to me.
    Thanks for offering to help.

  • After upgrading to os 10.10 photoshop elements 6 and 9 crash on launch

is there a way to get photoshop elements 6 or 9 to work under os 10.10 Yosemite ?

I have't tried it myself, but I can tell you that with all recent versions of OS X, it's absolutely critical to go to your username>library>preferences and delete all PSE prefs before trying to run in a new version of OS X.

  • Elements and Windows 7 - it's crashing when loading Editor - help!

Installed Elements 7 (and tried 8) on my Toshiba laptop, the organiser loads fine but when I try getting into the Editor nothing happens - any help appreciated.  Ali

Unfortunately, there are many reasons why the PSE Editor might crash, and often it is hard to diagnose quickly the reason for the crash.   Here are some steps you can take to try to fix the problem:

Question:  I have tried all the Adobe recommended fixes due to my NVidia graphics card but my project still regularly crashes and now as soon as it starts loading the elements, it crashes with no error message.

NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS Display Adapter with newest 64 bit driver 266.58
Assets:   About 300 still images imported from an album in Photoshop elements shot with a Cannon Power Shot a570 IS
Stills are at 3072 x 2304 or vice version, RGB, 180 resolution
27 short video clips from a Kodak Zi6 converted to avi files by AVS Video Converter
Project:  I believe the presets are for NTSC DV although I can't get in to check; they've been this way because I usually shoot video with my Sony VX 2100.
Workflow:  I imported the stills in chronological order preceding the first video.  Then more stills in chronological order before the next relevant video.  I am using the timeline.  After each import I save, add transitions (mostly the cross dissolve), save, and render.  Sometimes after saving rendered files, the system crashes and when I get back in the files haven't been rendered.
Some vertical stills it accepts just fine.  For some others, I have to rotate them.
What I have done:  I read all the suggestions from Adobe and the forums for dealing with the NVIDIA card.  This is what I have done in the approximate order I have done it:
         1. Installed the 8.0.1 update
         2. Updted the NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS driver to the newest 64 bit driver 266.58.  I tried to do this update a couple of times.  The sytem kept telling me the 260 driver was current but the NVIDIA website said to use the 266.58.  I finally got it installed but a little later in the process.
         3. I could not disable the Hardware Acceleration as the NVIDIA card would not let me...the option was grayed out.
         4. I set both the global and the Premiere Elements threaded optimination to off.
         5. I turned off "Enable GPU playback" at one time when I could still get into the program.
         6. I recreated the adobe premiere elments plugincache.
         7. I uninstalled the Nvidia 3D Stereo driver...it was called Stereo not steroscopic.  In the NVIDIA control panel I did not install the Stereoscopic functions.
         8.  I was still crashing frequently. I was getting the low memory message, so I searched the forums and found directions to change the size of the paging file by clicking Start/accessories/run as administrator/enter at the command prompt BCDEDIT/SET INCREASEUSERVA ####.  I started with 3072 then gradually increased as it wasn't helping up to 8000.
         9. I think I finally upgraded the driver to the 266.58 at this point.
        10.  This morning I found directions on how to check the size of the paging file by accessing the control panel.  It showed my paging file was only 4096 (I guess the former advice didn't work) and it changed it to a virtual memory minimum of 8000 and a maximum of 10000.
Now I can't get into the program at all.  It says it has loaded 100%, then there is a 100 second pause.  It starts loading the media and crashes.
I love Adobe products and was a former Adobe Premiere 6.5 user. Premiere Elements as described is perfect for me as a video hobbyist.  Please help!  I would welcome any more suggestions that I can try.  Do you think I should just find a replacement for the NVidia board?  If so, what would you recommend.  I tend to do long projects.  I just can't live with all these crashes.
    Sincerely,
    Tracy Matern

    Tracy,
Great job with the details - very well done!
This should be a "poster-child" for how to state details, and a problem.
Now, first thing that I see, regarding the crashes are the size of your still images. Overly-large stills require a ton of resources, and can crash the program, and/or the computer. Scaling of the stills to near the Frame Size of the Project will help greatly, and actually improve the quality of the output. This ARTICLE will give you tips.
Next, with a 64-bit OS, like Win7-64, 4GB of RAM is about the minimum for just the OS. Though PrE cannot use more than the 3.5GB of RAM, as it is still a 32-bit app., but the OS and other programs, certainly can. I would bump that up, if at all possible. Your OS and any other programs, will love you for it.
Off the top of my head, it sounds like you have got the video sub-system well handled, and would look beyond it (for now), to other factors.
You might want to see this ARTICLE on setting up a computer for video-editing sessions, and especially the link to Black Viper's Win7 Tune Up Tips Web site.
Also, check that you have the latest version of Apple's QT Player.
If necessary, there are more troubleshooting tips, and I'll be glad to share those, if necessary.
Thanks for the great post, and good luck,
    Hunt

  • I've just bought and installed PS elements 13 on Windows 7 x64 and it crashes as soon as it's started (1st run)

After what I thought was a legit copy of PS Elements 8 expired tonight after a month, I bought PS Elements 13 and installed it on a Windows 7 Pro x64 machine.
It installed properly, and on first load, it opened the welcome screen, then both Organise and Edit options cause an immediate crash, and everytime since.
    Multiple restarts with no difference.
    Elements 8 removed, no difference.
Elements 13 removed and reinstalled with no difference.
How can I find out what's wrong and get this fixed ASAP?
That, or somehow purchase a PS Elements 8 licence??

You may have a configuration problem in your network (IP conflict). Are you using DHCP?
There is also the possibility of some problem with the HP App.

Just got FCP today  with my new MBP. It was working fine and it crashed. Now I open and it doesn't load the clips and the timeline doesn't show the preview. I've attached a screenshot. It opens for about 30 seconds then crashes. I tried reparing permissions but got nothing. Any ideas?
As you can see dark blue areas shouldn't obviously have images but they aren't loading FCP is crashing

Trash your preferences. Trash event and project render files.

  • Firefox crashes when loading Gmail, and random other pages, and freezes often.

Firefox upgraded itself to 3.6.10 sometime last Friday, I believe, and every since I cannot get into gmail, and it freezes often. When I try to log into gmail it will crash immediately. Sometimes if I click "sign in" rather than hitting "enter" it will load, but will lock up or crash within minutes or seconds. It also will lock up if I have more than three or four tabs open, often when loading a video, and crashed while loading Nexis, which I use often for work to do research.
I have disabled add-ons, disabled extensions, run in safe mode, uninstalled and reinstalled, rebooted, downgraded, re-upgraded. Nothing has worked.

Problem does not seem to occur on a modern Win XP nebook with 1 gig RAM, but does on a relatively old laptop running Win 2000 with 98.5 MB ram.
Error message states that a script is running from a Firefox directory and asks to stop it. Crash occurs anyway!

  • Premiere Elements 11 crashes while loading ImporterQuickTime.pm

    Hi all!
I'm facing a problem with Adobe Premiere elements 11.0 whenever I launch it (even launched directly without passing the organizer's launch screen) it stops while loading ImporterQuickTime.pm.
    Here's my PC specifications:
    Windows 7 32bit
    Ram 2GB
    Intel Dueo CPU 2.20GHZ
    SIS Mirage 3 Graphics adapter
    QuickTime version: 7.7.4 (latest)
Is there a troubleshooting steps or logs where I can find the culprit?
    Thanks for any help.

    Numerdiaweb
This type of issue does not seem unique to Premiere Elements 11, and I am not certain that this is one answer to a fix.
The person with this type of issue is usually put through the drill
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/951360
    which includes
    a. Is latest version of QuickTime installed? If you have the latest version, have you tried uninstalling reinstalling it?
    b. Is your video card driver up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
    c. Do you have the latest Windows Updates and was all working before the Windows Updates?
I ran into this issue with Premiere Elements 11 on Window 7 64 bit. The only thing that worked everytime to get beyond this block for me was to go to the Task Manager/Processes and End Process for a Process named ElementsOrganizerSyncAgent.exe. The irony of it was that this .exe was located in the Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 files on the hard drive. I have since deactivated, uninstalled, reinstalled Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 and the problem has not reappeared.
With the possibility of undefinited corrupted files, you might want to look at"
    a. Deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file or the whole Folder that it exists in Windows 7 64 bit...(you may need to translate these details into 32 bit system...please ask for help if you need that...
    Local Disc C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
and in the 11.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. As I mentioned, if just the Prefs files has no impact, then try deleting that 11.0 Folder that it exists in.
Remember to have Folder Options Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives on so that you can see the path involved.
That 2 GB installed RAM caught my attention, but I would think that you would be able to get beyond that QuickTime message even at that. But do look into increasing that 2 GB RAM to at least 4 GB (which is the maximum supported for 32 bit system).
Let us start here and see if any of the above leads to the solution.
    Thanks.

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9 wont load in computer

    I just bought
Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and took it home to load into my computer running windows XP with service pack 3 and all it does is show a small box in the upper left corner of the screen, looks like its loading something for about five seconds and then dissappears and nothing more happens. I tried to go to my computer and find the drive with it in it which I did and start it that way with no luck, tried to find an EXE. file with no luck and then returned it to the store thinking it was defective and got another one, same deal here too. I spent about four hours trying to get this to load and am about ready to throw this program into the pond out front. Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. John

    Hi Barbara
You hit the nail on the head. I bought Premiere Elements 9 and Photoshop Elements 9 together in one box and I thought that the four dics (two per program?) was what I got and didnt look at the disks closely. Also it figures that the Mac disks were first in line so I tried to load those first with no luck. Thanks for your help. John
