Elements 6 clone tool

Sometimes when I hit the clone tool, it will not give the round size . It will only be a cross. I can not tell what I am doing with this. Then later it will go back to showing my point as a circle which I can change size . Why does it not show the round size all the time? What do I do to get it back ? Thanks.

Turn off your caps lock key. That's the toggle for the crosshairs, what adobe calls the "precise cursor."

I did find a second copy, but this is identic with the one I already had in Lightroom, and I can see noe result of the clone process.

At the moment I would say it is uncertain whether Acrobat is completely ignoring the change, or whether the changes you are making aren't affecting the ink density. I have a suggestion for a test you could make to see which is the case.
When editing in Photoshop just add a box or mark on the image, for your tests.
- If this box does not appear in Acrobat, you know Acrobat is not seeing the edit
- If this box does appear in Acrobat, you know the problem is that your tool for changing ink densities is not taking effect.

Problems With Clone Tool on Windows 7 and Elements 8

The clone tool is exhibiting strange behavior on a friends installation of Elements 8 on Windows 7.
Sometimes the clone tool refuses to clone, other times it will clone in over dark areas but not light areas. We tried resetting to factrory settings. This worked for a while be reverted to the strange behavior after a couple of days.
It's on the correct layer and the mode setting for the clone tool is Normal and when it works in a darker area it will make it even darker but will not darken a very light (white?) area.
Anyone know what's happening?

I guess you have some blending mode other than 'Normal' selected.Click on the top-left corner of tool option bar and choose "Reset Tool".

You can select the clone stamp tool in Expert mode by pressing the letter S on the keyboard. There are two choices in the tools options bar at the bottom. Either clone stamp or pattern stamp tool.

Using clone tool in Elements 12

When I use clone tool, after sampling the area with alt key when I try to apply it the photo moves around so that I cannot not clone. How can I fix?

Your probably are seeing the Clone Source Overlay.
If you click on Tool Options and then Clone Overlay you can set different options, but you might try Clipped and see how that is.

Installed Photoshop Elements 10 on new computer and clone tool smears dark spots around photos. Spot healing brush smears dark colors around. Lighten and contrast work ok. Have deleted program and reinstalled but same problems.

Anybody have suggestions as I am stumped?

On the clone tool's option bar, top left, click on the little triangle. Since you are having a problem with two tools, suggest that you reset all tools. Let us know whether or not this resolves the issue.

Clone tool in Elements 10

I thought I would have a 'normal' mode for the clone tool - it is available with the Pattern Clone Tool, but not for the 'plain' clone tool. Is this correct? I thought it would have a normal mode?

In Editor>Expert tab, on the Clone tool's option bar, look for a box icon with lines in it. Click on this to reset the tool.

Right-click on the tool directly below the red-eye and then you can choose either the clone tool or the pattern tool.

Can't find how to adjust quality of clone tool

I can't figure out how to adjust the quality of the clone tool, it has very large pixels now - can anyone help?

Here is an enlarged example of a cloned image showing the problem I'm having. I was on the phone for 1/1/2 hours, and even shared the screen with Adobe, they were useless!
Hopefully you can see the very large pixels around the edge of the cloned area. I can't figure out how to make them smooth (smaller) like the image I cloned from.
I just bought CS6, new and unregistered. It's installed on a MacBook Pro, OS 10.8.5. I've been using Photoshop Elements 11 with no similar problems for a while, but I wanted to upgrade my capabilities to the full version of Photoshop.
Maybe you could also suggest a good Photoshop tutorial to get me up and running?

Elements 9 tools don't work

I noticed another post. Maybe it's not functioning well because I don't have enough ram on this laptop . . .
I'm so frustrated with Elements 9, I'm considering asking for a refund. Can't get many of the tools to even function. Maybe it's because the layer is locked, but nothing seems to unlock it. Can you tell me how to unlock it, and also how to get tools to function? I'd be SO grateful for your help.
It's like the program was created by a foreinger who can't figure out how to make things user-friendly. For example, I click on Brush tool - then control, click to choose the tool shape. I click option click to get the color. This works with clone tool. Does not work with most other tools! They come up with a circle and a line thru them. How do I get them to function?!
Wishing they included a manual. For something of this difficulty, a manual is really needed. I tried to access one online, but the help tap isn't helpful.

Using the clone tool on a picture I have pasted in another background?

I have photoshop elements 9, and took a photo that I wanted to change the background on. I erased all the picture except for my husband and I, then used the lasso tool to outline our photo and I copied it, and pasted it on another picture with a better backround. Now I am unable to use the clone tool on my husband and I, but can on the background. Maybe there is a better way to extract a photo and post it to a new background. But everytime I try to see how to do it on google, I see all these other tools that people use that I don't have. I have only elements 9, so am limited. Any suggestions?

I'm not at all sure I understand how elements 9 is limited in terms of the clone stamp compared to whatever you're googling, but I think your problem is most likely that you are either not targeting a portion of a layer with something in it (trying to clone from the empty area of the layer surrounding the pasted in image of you and your husband, for example) or trying to clone from a layer that isn't active (trying to clone from the background layer when the pasted in layer is the active layer).
You might want to turn on the Sample all Layers checkbox and see if that helps any.

Clone tool: program error window (El. 8.0)

When I try to use the clone tool a window opens saying there is a program error. Is there a way to fix this? I was wondering if reinstalling the program was necessary or if there may be some other way around the problem.

Kindly follow this method to use clone stamp tool in PSE8.
1. select the layer you would like to work on.
2. select clone stamp tool form tool box.
3. Press ALT+ left mouse click , to choose the area.
4. now start painting.
NOTE: I believe you are not selecting the area by pressing Alt+left
mouse click.

In-case you are using the correct work-flow however you are still
getting the error message then I would advice you to recreate Pref
erences for Photoshop Element 8 by following this method.
1. close Photohsop Element (if it is open).
2. press ShiftCtrlAlt these 3 buttons on your keyboard , do not
release these 3 buttons and launch Photoshop Element.
3. do not release the three buttons and click on edit to launch editor.
A small window will appear for asking you to choose yes or no [ you may
now release the three buttons]
4. choose yes when it ask you to delete preferences.

When PSE goes whacky the first thing to do is to reset the preferences. Quit the editor (quit PSE if on a mac), then restart it while holding down CTRLALTShift (CommandOptionShift on a mac). Keep holding the keys till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

Clone tool for photoshop elelements 6 not working

I have windows vista and using photoshop elements 6 and the Ram is 720mb allotted for elements and 1GB for computer. (I am getting more memory inserted today) A month ago I used the clone tool. Tried it again and it said program error. Didn't use it again until yesterday and it still displays "program error". All the other tools are working but this one. How do I fix it?

First go to the extreme left of the options bar where you'll see a tiny triangle. Click that and choose Reset Tool. If that doesn't do it, reset the editor prefs: quit the editor, then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.
