Elements 6: transform tool problems

I've just downloaded a trial version of Elements 6 for Mac. I use an iMac with OSX 10.5.5
I find the transform tool doesnt work as expected (neither did it in Elements4). It seems to be OK in performing a transform perspective operation except for the final step when pressing return results in nothing happening. The change is still visible but Elements won't actually make the change to the jpeg image. I wonder if anyone has suggestions? Do I have some vital but obscure setting in Elements disabled or not set?

Thank you for responding Barbara. I'm trying to correct some converging verticals by using the transform perspective commands. It's a part of Photoshop that I was familiar with when using CS3 on my PC but using Elements (I've tried both 4 and 6) on a Mac seems to be different. I've tried the checkmark (in 4, but it isn't there in 6) which also fails to action the selected perspective transformation. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Regards. Chris

Transformation tool problem

I cannot get the transformation tool to work properly. I click on a corner, then hold down ctrl and drag to my desired shape. As soon as I release either the mouse click or ctrl the box reverts back to a rectangle. Any remedies?

You may try whether this gives you what you want, Smart Guides being your friends:
1) With the Rectangle Tool ClickDrag from the upper left corner to the lower right corner of the photo (where Smart Guides say anchor);
2) Transform the rectangle as desired;
3) Select both and Object>Envelope Distort>Make with Top Object.

Transform tool- problems with printing

Can anyone please advise? Been using CS3 for a few years. Recently used the free transform tool to import several images into a blank template, resize them and then print as one page. The overall image is sized to fit the print request and looks great inscreen at 100%. However when I send to lab for printing it is very poor quality. I have really no idea why this is and I'm hoping someone here can point out my mistake. I'm guessing it's something really obvious....I just can't figure what. Very frustrating. Ideas? ELEMENTS 9 (LASSO TOOL PROBLEM)

Try the Quick Selection tool for more control. Simply press the Alt key to change from plus to minus to correct mistakes as you go.

Photoshop Elements 9 Lasso Tool problem

When making a selection with the standard lasso tool, the screen will jump and then the path traced by the lasso does not display from that point on. A "Program not Responding" message displays in the upper left corner of the display. When the mouse button is released, a slection has been made. This behaviour is consistant. It does not happen on earlier versions of PSE (8&7) loaded on this machine. Gateway SX 2800, Intel Quad Core Q8300, Windows 7 Home Premium, 6 meg RAM.
Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a fix?

I received a reply from Adobe in which they informed me it was a "Known issue". It wasn't a "Known issue in previous versions. So why is it now a problem?
I find this very frustrating. Adobe is so concerned with their revenue cycle that they take a well functioning application and break it by messing with the code so they can release a "New" version every year. They offer one or two questionably useful features and expect us all to come running with cash in hand for their next great thing.
I have a suggestion for Adobe for version 10; well maybe version 11 because I suspect 10 is sitting on the shelf just waiting for the rollout date. Anyway here are the changes I think they should make. Change nothing. Just keep it the way it is but release it with all of the sloppy code fixed. Deliver to us a properly functioning, bug-free application.

Elements 10 Lasso Tool problem.

After tracing for just a bit it stops working and I get "File Name @% (Layer, RGB/8)* Not Responding" message, screen jump and disappearing 'marching ants'. Does not appear to be a problem with the Magnetic or Polygonal tools. This happens when working on my laptop. I have plenty of RAM and an i7 processor and using external dual monitors.

Yea, that worked. Thanks 1.99jon. But how the heck did you figure that out? That solution makes as much sense as me running around my house 3 times and that making it work. Have any more tricks you figured out? By the way I also have Elements_10 on a desktop and I do NOT experience the problem there.

Transform tool in Elements 4 not working

I'm trying to use the transform tool in Elements 4. All seems to be well until I hit the return key to activate the changes and then nothing happens. The image remains on screen with the transform perspective change visible but it doesn't actually make the change. I use an iMac with OSX.10.5.5

No, what I did is still there visible on screen but not applied to the image. I'm finding it quite hard to explain using the correct terminology but if you visualise pulling the top triangles in so that two triangular sections appear on the edges (giving me, if the change would be applied, sides that are parallel to the sloping verticals in the image - which is the distortion I'm trying to correct), then committing this change, the marching ants disappear, the two triangular sections on the edges remain visible but no correction is applied to the image.
Does this help to describe my problem? Even more relevant, perhaps, is that I tried loading PSE3 into a PC and exactly the same problem emerged with transform perspective commands.
I'm sure you are right about my workflow. There is some fundamental issue that I haven't addressed properly. I don't need Photoshop much for the sort of work I do. Almost everything is well handled by Lightroom. So I haven't actually used this part of Photoshop since giving up CS2 in my old PC.

Gradient Transform Tool not working in Flash Pro CS6

I've tried all sizes (reducing and enlarging.) I'm working in shapes (I'm following a tutorial exactly so I know it's not what I'm doing wrong)
I'm running Mountain Lion on a 2008 iMac, but according to all I read it should be fine. Is Flash CS6 not supported in the new Mac OS?
I seem to be seeing a lot of complaints on various forums. I don't see the circle shape when i click on the tool. There's nothing. Any suggestions?

I'm having similar problems with the Gradient tool. I'm on a iMac 2009, OSX 10.8.3.
The gradient transform tool isn't working properly. The options for the tool aren't showing up in the tool bar.
I want to transform a gradient in multiple elements at the same time. A bunch of letters in a word.
The gradient transform handles only show up when I select a single element. And not when I select multiple items with the same gradient fill. I'm also using Flash CS6 via Creative Cloud.

Free Transform tool rotates incorrectly?

Setup (Macintosh/Illustrator CS3): document one has several anchors of text, some left justified, some right, all one line. Below is a simple set of stroked lines (one path about 7 points) showing an outline of an angled box flap, stroked. Selected copy from the Edit menu.
Document two: pasted these items and selected the Free Transform Tool (E). Bounding box shows with its eight hollow square corners. With the cursor outside of the bounding box, it shows rotate cursor (arrows on each end of curve). Freely rotating this pasted group, the outlined box flap moves as expected, but anchored text rotates twice as fast, sometimes rotating the opposite direction!!?? It won't undo properly either; I have to delete and start from square 1 and pasting. Also, if I convert the text to outline, it does rotate properly; this gives me the impression it only has to do with anchored text.
Any ideas? Anyone else have this issue? Is there a way I can screen/video capture this if I need to show it?

Picture 1: Three elements I'm working with= left & right justified text and a 'cup' to help alignment after rotating.
Picture 2: Same elements with the transform tool selected (bounding box being shown).
Picture 3, 4, 5: Gradual rotation.
As for using the rotate tool, that will work, but for as often as I do this, the rotate tool uses a few more steps and slows me down considerably. I know there's other workarounds like using an action for the times the degree of rotation is known, but that doesn't take the glitch away. If the option is there, it should work, and I do prefer this for its speed especially when working with non-complex things as the pictures show.

Free Transform tool not working.

I am using Elements 13 on an iMac OSX 10.10.3.The Free transform tool is not working properly when I try to scale an image. for example, if I type in '140 %' and tick 'constrain proportions', I find that one box shows '140' and the other box shows '14%', or sometimes, '120'. It is very frustrating. does anyone have any ideas about this problem?

Since Free Transform is a command rather than a tool, there isn't a specific reset for it. Try deleting the prefs: Go to the editor preferences>general, click this button, and restart the editor:

Photoshop crashes when using Free Transform Tool

Hello All Forum Members,
Recently Photoshop CS6 crashes when I attempt to use the Free Transform Tool through the shortcut (Ctrl+T).
It also crashes very often when using any of the free transform/transform tools via the menu as well, though not as often as the previous listed situation.
This experience only occurred recently - for all the time I have been using CS6, this has never happened.
I have read another thread similar to this, though I don't think the cause of the problem is the same as this was only a recent experience.
Any help will be appreciated.

Data transformation tool in wli8.1

We are trying to explore the data transformation tool of the wil8.1.
We have cobol copy books as input and we need to end up populating oracle tables.
These are the steps we are following:
1. Use format builder to change cobol copy books into .mfl files
2. Import them into the existing schema.
3.. Create a schema(.xsd) which would take the output which then could be transferd
into the java variables while creating the .jcx file.
3. Create a .dtf file that would take in the .mfl as the input and the output
would be the .xsd file created in step 3.
4. Create a .jpd file that would be initiated with the client request and would
use the .dtf as an input in the control send node and will return the .xsd file
creted in the step3.
The xsd file we have created is:

Can't move lower third with transform tool

I created a lower third with 4 text and background elements. I want to reuse it later in the movie to display a different name. I made a copy of it and positioned it in the timeline, but I can't move all 4 elements at the same time on screen to position it right. If I use the transform tool, it only allows me to move one element at a time even if I shift select all elements, but I need to be able to move all 4 at the same time. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for time and help.

Highlight all the clips in your lower third and create a Compound Clip.
This will enable you to move all the clips together with the transform tool
You can then copy this clip and use it like a template. When you need to update the text, control click on the Compound clip and select Break clip apart. and edit the text.

We sincerely apologize for the problem customers are facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
Plug-in installation instructions:
1. Close Photoshop Elements
2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
• For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
• For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.

Photoshop crashes after using transform tool in animation window!

My photoshop (CS5 on a mac) has been crashing anytime I use the free transform tool in the animation window. It works perfectly fine in regular photoshop, but the second I switch over to animation using the select tool then the free transform tool will crash photoshop and I'll lose what I was working on. I've tried a few things already, but my problem seems to be super specific and nobody else has had this happen to them.

Sorry about Photoshop CS5 crashing when you're working in the animation timeline.
Do you get a crash log that shows up?
Could you provide the details in that crash log here in the Forum discussion?
Have you tried creating a new user account, and tested working with this file and animation under that user to see if it crashes there?

Is PS CS5 up to date? The latest version of CS5 is 12.0.4
Which Mac OS Version are you working on? Is it up to date?
What happens if you create a NEW file, and create an animation timeline on that one, do you still get the same crashing behavior? Is it just with this one file?
