Elements 7 and nikon d5100

Hi, i have just bought a Nikon D5100 but cannot open the camera raw files using my Photoshop Elements 7 and i cannot find an update either that fixes this.
What can i do about this.
Your advice is much appreciated.
Thanks,
ian.

You can download the 7.2 DNG Converter to convert your camera raw d5100 files to dng copies which pse 7 will open into the camera raw dialog.

Another option of course is photoshop elements 11

  • Elements 9 and Nikon D7100 NEF (RAW) problem

I'm running elements 9 and have upgraded to a Nikon D7100 when I try and open a NEF (RAW) file it gives me an error message saying file type not recognised. This used to work fine with my D90, does this mean elements 9 will not support a Nikon D7100

Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. You may need to consider buying PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.7.1
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.7.1
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Elements 10 and Nikon D7100

I just bought a Nikon D7100 and shoot raw. When I try to open a NEF file in Elements 10, I get an error message saying it's the wrong file type.
Can I upgrade Elements 10 so that it will open the NEF files from the D7100? If not, will the newest version of Elements recognize and open these files?
Appreciate any assistance you can provide.

That last version of ACR listed on the downloads page for Elements 10 is 6.6.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=40&platform=Windows
I don't know if it supports later versions.  Adobe doesn't exactly make it clear, these days.  My guess is not.  Anyone else?
Have you tried Help > Updates?
On the camera support page, it says you need ACR 7.4 for the D7100:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
You can always use DNG Converter make DNG copies of your raw files, which will open in Elements 10.  It's a bit of a hassle, but it's free.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/digital-negative.html#downloads
Assuming you can't update, you'll need to upgrade to the latest Elements, which will support the D7100.

  • Photoshop CS3/Camera Raw and Nikon D5100

    Hi,
I have Photoshop CS3 and a Nikon D5100 and I am unable to open my RAW files.
    Any ideas?

    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
The D5100 has been supported since Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 6.4 which is only compatible with CS5 and later. CS3 is too old.
    Either
    Join the Cloud, or
Join the Photoshop Photography Program, or
Buy Lightroom 5, open the Raw files, save to TIFF then edit the TIFFs in CS3, or
Keep CS3. Download the free Adobe DNG converter and convert all your D5100 Raw files to DNGs. Then edit the DNGs in CS3.

  • Lightroom 3 and Nikon D5100

    Hi,
I just recieved my Nikon D5100 today and it looks as if Lightroom doesn't recognize raw for the camera.  It worked perfectly with my Nikon D5000.  Does anyone know when Lightroom will support D5100 raw and if there's a workaround until it's officially supported?
    Chris

    I'm in the same situation.
    Failed options:
I could use NX, but then I would end up with jpegs or tiffs, neither of which is my permanent storage format (DNG), nor a viable alternative (not being raw).
I tried to install Adobe DNG converter, but it prompted me to install their app manager, which then said it couldn't install DNG converter. (DNG converter 6.0.3.79 does not recognize the D5100's NEF files.)
Preview and Quick Look don't recognize them yet; no OS X support.
    Read-only:
Xee does open the D5100's NEF files. (Version 2.2 is current from http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/xee.html .) It is designed for viewing, not editing; I use it for my first preview/cull step (sometimes).
The GIMP also opens the D5100's NEF files. (Version 2.6.1 from http://www.gimp.org/ , which says it uses UFRaw 0.17 which in turn uses DCRaw.) However, no option to save as DNG.

  • Elements 11 and Nikon D610 Raw files?

I have Photoshop elements 11 (mac) and have been importing raw files from NikonD70s for years without problem. I recently got a Nikon D610 and now get message saying unbuckle to read file. WHat options do I have. Will upgrading to elements 13 help?Element

Yes an update to PSE13 would work. Or you would need to convert NEF to DNG using the free Adobe converter. You can download PSE13 at this link and try for 30 days before buying - click here for PSE downloads

  • Elements 09 and nikon d600

My software won't open the NEF files from the camera. I have downloaded the latest DNG convertor but it still won't open them for editing. Do tell me..... I have to upgrade to Elements 11?
Also iphoto won't recognise the files to download off the camera and the latest update of that makes no difference. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your NEF files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original NEF’s as backups and for use in Nikon software) and other Adobe apps. You need version 7.2 which has preliminary support for the D600.
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.2
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.2
You can convert a whole folder of NEF images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Camera raw 8.3, Elements 11 and Nikon D5300

I have a new Nikon D5300.  Elements 11 won't recognize the raw (NEF) files if I try to download them.  The help section says I need camera raw 8.3, but I can't find that nor can I find a link to Elements, rather that Photoshop.  Can someone help?

Just to add to mytaxsite's answer, PSE11 will only support up to Camera RAW 7.4. That is why you need to use the converter - http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html#downloads.

  • Which version of camera raw will work with elements 9 and a Nikon D5100? How do I download photos to it?

I have Photoshop Elements 9 and use a Nikon D5100.  I have downloaded camera raw 6.5 but cannot download photos to it.  Does camera raw start automatically or do I have to manual start it?

    That did I, thanks.

I have Elements 10 and a Nikon D7100. PSE10  CR 6.7 does not support the 7100 NEF. How can I get the updates to do this?

The D7100 requires camera raw 7.4 which is not compatible with Photoshop Elements 10.
    Your two main options are
    1) Buy a newer version of Photoshop Elements
    2) Use the Adobe DNG converter to convert the NEF files to DNG files which can then be used by Photoshop Elements 10.

  • Can RAW photos be opened using elements 10 on a pc windows 7 and nikon D3300? camera 6.6.update didn't work.

i'm trying to use elements 10 on my pc using windows 7 to view and modify RAW format photos shot with a nikon D3300. i can't get it to work. i have downloaded the adobe camera RAW 6.6.update for elements 10 and it still doesn't work. is there any way to do this?

You need camera raw 8.4 for your camera. It is only compatible with PSE12 or PSE13. Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)

  • Elements 11 and Raw file from Nikon D7100

I have newly installed Elements 11 and downloaded the updated raw plugin 7.4 but it still won't open raw files from NikonD7100.  Any other tricks?

Check that the 7.4 update installed correctly. You can do that from Expert Mode:
    Help >> About Plug-in >> Camera Raw
Note the version number. Press Esc to close the pop-up.
If that’s OK, you should note that NFE files can be compromised by using older versions of Nikon Transfer or Nikon software, that did not ship with the camera. If that’s the case, try shooting a few new NEFs and bring them straight into Elements without passing through any other programs.

  • Will Photoshop Elements 11 and Lightroom 4 support conversation of RAW files from a Nikon D800?

I'm currently using Photoshop Elements 9 and must convert RAW files from my Nikon D800 to .dng files before processing using a added converted.  I'm considering upgrading to either Elements 11 or Lightroom 4 but want to know if either of these programs will support the nikon D800 RAW files without having to go through this extra cumbersome step.   Additionally, if I do go with Lightroom 4, will the transition be easy or difficult and what problems might I encounter?

Yes the D800 is fully supported in both applications.
You would certainly benefit in processing your 36mp raw files using Lightroom if you have a 64bit PC or Mac with additional memory (RAM). The Lightroom develop module is where you do all the editing and you get the benefit of the full CS6 raw engine in an intuitive interface.
If you regularly use the Elements Organizer you should understand Lightroom quite easily.
Why not download the free trial of LR4 and test for 30 days.

  • When will Lightroom and Elements support the Nikon D600?

When will Lightroom and Elements support the Nikon D600?  In the meantime is there a workaround so the D600 raw files can be exported to Lightroom or am I simply out of business until Adobe develops the needed patch?
As best as I have been able to figure out I may as well rebox the 600 and go back to my older, supported camera, until whenever.

A: What were you using before your precious D600 showed up today.
    A D90 with good glass.
    Nikon 70-200 f2.8, Nikon 24-70 f2.8, Voigtlander 58 f1.4, Tokina 11-16 f2.8.
Now I need to get a good FF wide solution for the D600.
Trigger on the D600 is much more stiff than my D90 so I'm having to press down a bit harder to get the AF confirmation. Just need to get used to that I guess.
FYI, JPG files right out of the camera are looking good.
B: Don’t you think Adobe wants to sell you the next generation product/upgrade to accommodate all of our insatiable photographic pursuits???
I had been using Apple's Aperture and switched to Lightroom a couple of months ago. I thought the price was actually quite fair for the power of the LR software. I did have to updgrade my computer's RAM....
C: Have a nice glass of wine tonight and enjoy your $2K investment. I’m personally looking forward to savoring a next generation photographic paradigm.
We did enjoy some vino last night! I was thinking I would possibly jump ship to Sony A99 and just switch to all Zeiss glass with autofocus, but I'm not convinced that the EVF is for me, and I'm really not a video shooter, mostly just landscape and real estate. Also, I the Sony turned out to be priced a bit too high for me personally in comparision to the D600.
    Buenos Dias!

  • Downloaded raw 7.1 to my cs4 and can't open raw files taken with nikon d5100.  d70 raw files do open

Need a solution to above question.

Raw 7 is compatible with Cs6 version of Adobe software, not with CS4.
    Check this link :- http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
and to open the Nikon D5100 raw files the minimum camera raw plugin required in 6.4
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
You can use the DNG converter with the CS4 to open this files, I think that will be the best option.
