Elements 7 & Camera Raw 4.6/CS3 - won't open

Here's my dilemna:
1 - click on a RAW/CR2 image file in PSE7
2 - click on Edit --> Edit with Photoshop
3 - File opens in Photoshop as a CR2 file with an "-edited-1" suffix added to the file name (still in CR2 format).
PSE5 Used to open the CR2 file in ACRaw and then hand off to CS3. Somehow, the ACRaw step has gone away with PSE7. ACR still works from Bridge, is installed only once in CS3, etc.
Also, I tried 'downgrading' to ACR 4.5, but the same thing happened (no ACR when going to CS3).
Plus, right clicking on the CR2 image in PSE7 and choosing "FULL EDIT" opens ACR 4.6, which allows me to edit the RAW file - but then hands off to PSE7's full editor (not CS3). Again, ACR is working fine.
Net: somehow the ACR step was lost in the PSE7 handoff to CS3. Any suggestions on how to get it back?

I am seeing the same thing you are. It seems that this is new to Photoshop Elements 7 Organizer. All raw files (I have confirmed with .CRW, .CR2, and .NEF} open in Photoshop CS3 with no opportunity to adjust any of the camera raw options. I would assume that the raw file is being processed with some default setting and immediately opening in Photoshop CS3.
If I ask the Photoshop Elements Organizer to do a 'Full Edit' in the Photoshop Elements 7 Editor the Camera Raw window does open.
I would also like to learn how to restore this function.

I have just started taking RAW images with my Canon camera. I have several CR2 images on my computer that I would like to open in CS3. I am getting an error message that says "Could not complete your request, because it isn't the right document." Can someone please tell me what I need to change in order to get these pics to open in CS3 so that I can work with them?????

Photoshop CS3 uses version 4.x of the Camera Raw plug-in, which opens raw files.
What camera is it? Is it newer than your version of Photoshop? Adobe may not have known about the raw format for your camera back then, and they stop updating the Camera Raw plug-in when they do the next major release (which would have been CS4 in your case)
The good news is that prior to that release, they do make updates to the Camera Raw plug-in. You can find the list of supported cameras (along with a link to download the latest Camera Raw update) here:

Opening Camera Raw file in CS3 Bridge

I have CS3 Bridge and CS3 Dreamweaver instaled as well as Photoshop CS2.
I want to open Camera Raw files in CS3 Bridge. The Bridge Help file says:
"Select 'Edit Camera Raw Settings' in Bridge General Preferences to open Camera Raw dialog box in Bridge" (as opposed to opening in Photoshop.)
But my Bridge General Preferences has no such checkbox option. When I open a CR file in CS3 Bridge, the file opens in Photoshop CS2.
How do I get the file to open in CS3 Bridge.

I had a problem with this previously and came up with the following:
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF and hold down the shift key, Camera Raw will not be scheduled
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image, the image will always schedule Camera Raw if the Bridge menu item Edit/Preference/Thumbnails has Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF checked (Bridge JPEG and TIFF Checked).
If I am in Bridge and double click a JPEG or TIFF image and Bridge JPEG and TIFF is unchecked and the JPEG or TIFF image has previously been processed by Camera Raw, Camera Raw will be scheduled if Camera Raw Preferences dialog has Always open JPEG files with settings using Camera Raw or Always open TIFF files with settings using Camera Raw checked.
If I am in Bridge and double click a TIFF image and the TIFF file has layers, the TIFF file will not schedule Camera Raw.
In Photoshop Preferences (Edit/Preference/File Handling) there is a check box titled Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files. I checked the check box and opened a JPEG image in Photoshop Camera Raw was scheduled. I clicked Open Image in ACR and then saved the image in Photoshop (JPEG saved in Photoshop after passing thru ACR). I then Unchecked the check box and opened the JPEG file Camera Raw was not scheduled.
The only action I see for the Photoshop File Handling check box is to either schedule or not to schedule JPEG images. I do not see any related action for TIFF files in Photoshop. My expectation is that TIFF files will open in Photoshop not ACR.

How long til elements 7 Camera RAW 5.4 for Canon 500D????

I have recently upgraded from Canon 400D to 500D. I was merrily editing away with the 400D but since the 500D, I haven't been able to convert the RAW files at all. Research on this site shows that there is a trial 5.4 for the 500D but for CS4 only!! I have emailed Adobe for an update but don't hold out much hope. Has anyone heard a release date for Elements 7 camera RAW?? I know I've got the DPP software but I've never used it and from what I've tried to suss out today - it's pants compared to Elements hence paying £70 for the pleasure and now it doesn't work!! But I'm not bitter.......;o)

Can only open some JPEG files in Camera Raw through Bridge CS3

I'm running Bridge CS3 version 2.0.0.975. I always edit my JPEG files through Camera Raw in Bridge CS3. I only have to Right-Click on the file and select "Open in Camera Raw...". However, I've come into a situation where some jpg files will not open this way; the option is not even there.
I have made sure to tick the box in preferences under Behavior "Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge", and also tick the box under Thumbnails -> Performance and File Handling "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF Files.
These files were originally 16bit Grayscale TIFF files, but I changed them to RGB 8bit JPEG files.
Also, I know the program works because I navigate to an older photo I worked which is a JPEG and the "Open in Camera Raw..." option is there when I Right-Click, but then I navigate back to the image I want to edit, and the option is not there.

That's a fundamental problem right there, and a clue in all this. You should be able to see JPEGs in the Open As Camera Raw dialog.
What happens if you type in the name?
I'm almost convinced you have a file named .jpg but with a different image format inside. Can you put one of these files online for others to try to open?

In Bridge CS3, Camera Raw 4.4.1. doesn't open

I try to open ARW-files (RAW-SONY) by clicking thumbnails in Bridge CS3,
but Camera Raw 4.4.1. doesn't open. I have all the necessary plugins installed.
Camera Raw 4.4.1. only starts up by directly using Photoshop.

The Bridge update is 58,9 MB and the PSCS3 upgrade is 170 MB

Best Way to Open Files in Camera Raw Hosted by CS3?

Hello. I can no longer open Camera Raw in Bridge, only in CS3. I have read posts regarding this problem. If I cannot get Camera Raw (4.2) working in bridge soon, what would be the most efficient way to edit 900 DNG files in Camera Raw hosted by CS3. I really need to process these files for a client in 2 days, so I really do not have too much time to install and re-install software. I am afraid I may create a bigger problem. Thanks a lot.

Francis,
First, make sure you are running Bridge 2.1.0.100. If not, update ASAP.
Go to "About Plug-in" in the Help menu of Photoshop and verify that you are running ACR 4.2 and that only one copy of ACR is present. You cannot have more than one.
Purge the Cache for each offending folder through the Tools menu in Bridge, not in Bridge Preferences.
Those are the only tips I can offer, as I don't do Windows. Hope the Windows users jump in.

Elements 12 Camera Raw

Can Elements 12 Camera Raw be updated from ver 8.0 to ver 8.2? From what I can find out the CR2 files from my Canon 70D require ver 8.2. I am unable to open them in Elements 12 even though the CR2 files from my older Canon T3i open with no problem.

Help / Updates from PSE’s Editor should update to ACR 8.3. If it says things are up-to-date, then reboot and try it, again, and if it still says that, then you might try re-installing PSE12. That worked for someone else within the last couple days.
Otherwise, someone else tried the direct-download link for ACR 8.3 CC on Adobe’s blog and it worked to update their PSE11 so I expect it’d work for PSE12:

Habe mir den DNG-Converter V8.3 von ADOBE runtergeladen und installiert (Installation musste ich merkwürdigerweise zwei mal starten. Fehlermeldung: "...ist keine 32bit-Anwednung" - Ich nutze noch WIN XP :-( ). Dann gleich 2-3 Bilder damit convertiert und dann mit (bereits offenem) ELEMTNS 12 mit Camera RAW versucht zu öffnen. Ergebnis: Fehlermeldung: "....diese Version wird von ELEMENTS 12 nicht unterstützt". Nun habe ich Elements noch einmal zugemacht und wieder geöffnet und es nochmal versucht ... siehe da, der zweite Anlauf hat funktioniert. (Ausführliche Beschreibung damit anderen Usern das ggf. hilft.)

Help! My CS3 won't open RAW files from my Canon EOS 7D..

I have always used Photoshop CS3 - I like it and am quick with it, and I shoot RAW files on Canon EOS.
I don't want to upgrade to CS5, however since upgrading my camera to a 7D, Photoshop will no longer
open my RAW files. I've tried to update plug-ins, I've tried to work through DNG [it won't open those either]
and I've tried for hours on end to get an answer from Adobe on the phone. Nothing is working. Does anyone
have any advice for me please? I'm begining to tear my hair out!! Emma

Are you saying your Ps CS3 won't even open the sample DNG file (/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Samples/Doors.dng)? If that's the case then you need to make sure you have the correct Camera Raw 4 plug-in installed properly.
If it is just DNGs generated from your 7D files, then maybe the DNG Converter options need to be tweaked.

New install of CS3 on my new PC laptop won't open NEF (Nikon RAW) images. Same PC product opens them on my older desktop, and CS5 for MAC opens them on my iMAC.

I followed the instructions to the letter, and nothing worked. I still got the wrong kind of file message. After I tried to use the plug-in, I could no longre open pages in IE or Firefox. I have to wipe my new computer and reinstall everything. This time, I made CS3 the first thing I installed, and followed the instruction again as follows:

Still unable to open RAW images in PS. I did notice that the two files I copied to the desktop folder were the same, although one was slightly larger than the other. I chose to keep both.
Why is CS3 working on my desktop from the same disk with no plu-in, but not on my new laptop? Is it Windows 8.1 instead of XP? That doesn't make much sense. PLEASE help. This is insane.

Elements 10, Camera Raw 6.7: no colour space choices

Newbie alert!
I'm no expert on Photoshop or Camera Raw, but I read everywhere that I should be able to change the colour space of the Camera Raw output. At the moment I can only get the default which is sRGB but I want Adobe.
There's a little camera gizmo titled "Camera Calibration" underneath the histogram, but it's not there.
I've read that there should be some control in the middle beneath the preview but there's nothing there either.
Is this hobbled in Elements?

Keeping in mind that a raw file has no color profile (it's not even an 'image', it's a recording of light intensity for each of the photosites laid out in a 'Bayer pattern' with Red, Green and blue filters) and that your raw file information will never be altered by any converter, you can be sure that it is always possible to re-process the raw file to aRGB without any information loss.
You are perfectly right that the resulting image (psd, tiff, jpeg...) when you save from the editor will keep its color profile and that converting sRGB to aRGB won't add any useful information; that's what I said in the other post.
When I was experimenting on that matter with other users in another forum, I was able to select previously edited raw files containing subtle tones in green/cyan and re-process them in aRGB instead of sRGB and I got better results on my 6-inks home printer.
Don't believe all images will be better in aRGB, there are not necessarily 'out of gamut' colours in all of your pictures.

Elements 7 & camera raw

I am trying to open my files (Nikon D5000) in elements 7, but they won't open. I downloaded Camera Raw 5.6 & followed the directions as stated on this site, however camera raw is not prperly installed in PSE. It is not showing up in the "plug ins" even though it is in the folder on my computer. Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated!

that's another part of the instructions i was confused at. I downloaded 5.6 from the adobe site, but when i opened it after it downloaded, it didn't give me an option to unzip it. It had the win64 folder, the camera raw file, and the camera profiles file. I was then able to move the camera raw file into the PSE/plugins/file format folder. that's as far as i'm getting. Am i missing a step? It doesn't seem like there is anything i can do besides that. After the 5.6 downloads it asks if i want to open, save, or save as. i hit save. then it takes me to the downloads folder where i can get to it as stated above. (i hope this makes sense!)
