Elements 7 - Using Custoim ICC Profiles when Printing in Editor

I have downloaded some custom ICC profiles specific for some papers I use. They are there - I can select the profile printing from the organizer - Color Management>Print space - but they do not appear in the list of options if printing in Editor. Am I forced to print thru Organizer now?

>When you open the box in Editor>Print for the ICC profiles, the box doesn't scroll easily. You have to hold the left mouse button down as you scroll to see the entire list.
Try moving the Print window all the way to the left. If you have a small screen, move it further so that the left half of the Print window is off-screen. Then you should be able to see the scroll bar of the drop-down list of profiles.
This bug was identified in PSE 6, and I had thought it was fixed in PSE 7. But evidently not I was just able to reproduce it on my laptop.

  • Lightroom/photoshop seem to use the default monitor profile when printing

I had my color workflow setup fine and I have no idea what happened. It's been working as long as I can remember. My monitor is calibrated with an eye-one display 2. When I print, the print colors no longer match the monitor colors.  Trying to figure out what is going on, I noticed that if I switch the monitior profile to "Display" the print colors made match the "Display" monitor colors rather than the monitor colors present when its profile is set to the calibrated profile. I get the same behavoir in photoshop and lightroom.
    To recap:
    1. profile/calibrate the monitor with an eye-one display 2
    2. set the monitor profile to the new calibrated profile.
2.5 take a look at the soft proof. everything looks good.
    3. make a print using the correct paper profile, lightroom or photoshop managing the color,
    4. the print colors don't match the monitor
    5.  fooling around, set the monitor profile to "Display". Those are the colors that show up on my print.
Any ideas as to what's going on?
    The particulars: OSX 10.7.5, Photoshop CS6 13.0.4, Lightroom 4.4
    Thanks.

There are lots of colour spaces here!
The image has a colour space.  If it's a jpeg it's probably sRGB or Adobe RGB.  If it's raw, then it's in the colour space of the camera sensor (which is proprietary, and no use to anyone until it's been rendered by LR, ACR or whatever).
The editing program (LR or Photoshop) has a "working colour space".  This is the working space the program does it's image manipulation in.  For Photoshop you can choose, for LR it's always ProPhoto RGB (there's no choice).  LR and Photoshop internally convert the image from the image's colour space to the working space for editing.
Then the monitor has a colour space.  Assuming it's been calibrated and profiled (measured) by a hardware device (Spyder, Colormunki or whatever) then the monitor's colour space is described in the monitor profile.
Assuming the display profile is correctly set (in Windows control panel, color management) to the monitor's profile (which should be done automatically when you calibrate/profile your monitor) then both LR and Photoshop will automatically use the monitor profile when sending image data to the monitor.  Both will automatically map (convert) the image from the working color space of the program to the colour space of the monitor.  It just happens.
    Provided:
The monitor is correctly calibrated and profiled (with a v2 profile if there's a choice, avoid v4 like the plague)
The default profile hasn't subsequently been altered in control panel
then LR will automatically colour manage correctly.  There aren't any controls or options in LR to make it not colour manage correctly.
It's much easier to screw up on Photoshop as there are lots of settings you can get wrong in the "Color Settings" panel.  So if there's a difference in colour between Lightroom and Photoshop it's virtually always a wrong setting in Photoshop, unless the monitor profile is incorrect.

  • How to get  paper color profiles when printing from Acrobat

    Hello,
I've been in trouble trying to print with specific paper profiles from Acrobat.
I'm running on mac os 10.8.5, and the latest version of the suite (Acrobat XI).
My printer is an Epson 3880.
I can print ok using my paper profiles when I'm printing from Photoshop; the paper profils show up in the printer box,
and I can choose from my different paper profiles, some of which I've installed recently, non-Epson papers.
But those paper profiles don't show up in the menu when I print from Acrobat…
Any hints why I can't reach those?
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Keth.

Are you talking about the color profiles?  If so then:
    1.  Go to File>Print
    2.  Click the Advanced button
    3.  Select Color Management from the window pane
    4.  Select the Color Profile from the Color Profile pop-up menu

  • No preview in FCP X when using custom icc profiles

    Hello,
since I switched to Lion 10.7.4 from Snow Leopard I have no preview when I want to playback videos from the event browser. I calibrated my Eizo Display with the latest ColorNavigator6 software using a Spyder4 device. The generated Eizo icc profiles are version 2.2. My second display is calibrated with the Spyder Pro4 Software. This icc profile is v2.4.
What I found out so far:
    - I open System Preferences > Displays > click on "Color" tab and check "Show profiles for this display only". When I change to a profile that is listed everything works fine. But my custom icc profiles both are not available now.
    - when I uncheck "Show profiles for this display only" my custom icc profiles get listed. When I select one of them Final Cut Pro X (10.0.5) doesn´t preview anything and hangs.
    - I compared my custom profiles with one that is listed "for this display only" using ColorSync. The only difference that I found were some missing and different tags in the custom profiles.
Do I have to modify my profiles to work with calibrated Displays in FCP X? How / what do I modify?
    Regards, Thomas

So how does color managment work in FCP X when I can´t calibrate my monitor or use icc profiles from a calibration software?

  • ICC profiles when sending pics to outside labs

I take pics with a Pentax K10D DSLR.
I calibrate my screen with a Huey Pantone unit.
I upload the pics to Iphoto.
I adjust the pics to look great on my screen.
I upload the pics to Costco photo center for printing.
I get back incorrect colors and muddy prints.
Costco tells me I need to upload to them using their ICC printer profiles and that will insure that I get back what I see on my screen.
I downloaded their profiles, but for the life of me, I am unable to determine how to impliment them when uploading the pics to Costco.
I know that professional photographers use photoshop to get great prints from Costco but that is not in my budget.
    Please help

1 - iPhoto is a consumer level program designed around point and shoot digital cameras - it does support RAW but if you want to do LOTS with RAW then you need an appropriate program - like aperture for one
2 - You may want to look at PhotoShop Elements which does almost all that PS does for a lot less money
3 - you also may find that updating your software will assist - iPhoto 6 is at least 3 or 4 years old now - there have been two major new versions since it was released

  • Cannot see ICC profile when Proofing ?

    Hi All, using PSP CS3
I am trying to get a ICC profile to appear as 'Device to Simulate when soft proofing in CS3.  This ICC file is from Adoramapix.com, to simulate their printers. When I drop down the list of 'Devices,' there is a older Adoramapix prifile, but I can't seem to get rid of it or remember how I added it?.I have already right clicked on the ICC and selected 'Install Profile.'  Not really sure what I was doing, but I also tried to add it under Display Properties>Advanced>Color Management.  But I would get an error 'This is a printer profile which cannot be associated with this monitor.' I do have a canon printer at home, but never use it for printing photos.
Anyone have an idea of how to make this ICC profile appear when soft proofing?

Are you an a Windows machine ? If so these ICC profiles are stored in c:/windows>system32>spool>drivers>colour and new ones should be installed there and old ones deleted from there.

  • HP c7180 ICC Profiles for printing in Lightroom 2.0

How do I find ICC profiles for  the various HP photo papers and then import them into Lightroom 2.0.

OK so I've done some testing now using the Lab 33 x 33 x 33 image.
Photoshop seems washed out when printing on photo paper pro but is far more accurate than in lightroom.
I also did an experiment and in Colour matching picked Vendor matching and in the Colour Options printed one with None selected and one with Driver matching selected - the one with Driver matching was much closer to the image on screen.
I also deiscovered that there is a bug in Lightroom which causes Colour matching options to be grayed out. I guess this is something I should be telling Adobe about.

  • Using an ICC Profile

When using a specific ICC profile in the develop module and making adjustments toward a photo that I want to print, what do I need to do in the Develop Module to ensure that it is saved as a new image that is specific to only that ICC profile so that I can then select it in the print module to print?  For example, after I've gone to View>Soft Proofing> etc....what do I need to do to make certain that all my changes/adjustments are saved?

Once you are happy with your settings and your proof, click the button (under the histogram) to save a proof copy. That will automatically create a virtual copy, next to your original in the library. In the information strip above the filmstrip it will have the profile name attached to the file name e.g. IMG_1234.dng/sRGB. It will also show on the thumbnail.

  • Icc profiles for printing?

    Convert from Windows!
Have a Epson Stylus 2200 photo printer. Need to load icc profiles from Ilford.com for the Galeria printing papers. Need some guidance in loading these icc profiles.
    Thanks!

Any help on this topic. Is there a default place to put icc profiles for a printer. EPSON profiles show up when I print. Just need to find out where I place the ilford profiles for this printer.

  • Loading icc profiles for printing

    HI,
I am very new to Macs. I have now overcome the problems with the new printer drivers and using them with Leopard. I am using an Epson R1800 printer and want to load specific paper profiles. I have downloaded several icc files and wanted to know how to install them.
    Many Thanks In Advance
    Colin

    Not sure if this will help for other icc profiles, but the system's profiles are here;

  • CS5 crashes when I try to load "other profiles" when printing

I'm using a Canon Pro 9000 printer. I read somewhere that you cannot turn off Printer Manages Colors however if you choose Printer Manages Color, then Color Matching (ColorSync checked) and then load your your icc it will match. I see the Canon Profiles and then at the bottom "Other Profiles". As I have Red River profiles I want to load one however each time I drop down and highlight "Other Profiles" CS5 crashes.

In recent printer drivers, choosing "Photoshop Manages Color" will automatically disable the printer driver color controls.
But in older printer drivers, you still have to disable the printer color controls yourself - hence the warning.
The 9500 is a little better than the 9000, but both are now a bit out of date.  (I think Epson is now 4 models beyond the 9500)
MacOS 10.6.x comes with newer printer drivers than 10.5 (and I hope you're on 10.5.8).

  • Tweak color profile when printing on plain paper?

If Im unhappy with the colors when printing on plain paper, can it be changed?
..this is on a five cart Photosmart Premium c410a that uses 564 tanks.
In particular, yellow is too dark, a bit "orangy" and photos are a bit weird: sky looks slightly smoggy brown.
In other words my question is if its possible to  tweak the color profile the HP driver uses when printing using plain paper -- for daily use.

Have you found a solution to this? I'm wondering if the same can be done for the photo prints as well...when I print photos, they turn out darker and have a purple-hue to them. Please let me know, I look forward to hearing from you.
