Elements 8 color scheme and panel bin - ugh!

I just upgraded from Elements 5 and I'm beginning to regret it. First, the colour scheme is dull, dull, dull, and more importantly, difficult to read. Whoever chose to use a black background with tiny white text doesn't understand visual design. I have good eyesight and a very good monitor but I still find it difficult to see menu items. Changing "User Interface Brightness" to Light is no improvement (black lettering on grey doesn't work either). Why on earth it can't be made to inherit the current Windows 7 Visual Theme, like everything other application, beats me.
Second, the behaviour of the Palette Bin (or is is the Panel Bin now?) in the editor is bizarre. I find it very difficult to get panels to dock properly - there used to be an option to automatically dock a floating panel (palette) by just closing. This has gone and you have to move the panel over the bin and then spend ages squinting at the right hand side of the screen to see whether it's docking. Have I missed something here?

PSE11 Effects, Layers and Panel Bin not showing on Mac with OS 10.9

I recently installed Photoshop Elements 11 on my iMac OS 10.9. The Effects, Layers and Panel Bin are not visible. Yes, I have tried the Show/Hide. They are checked, but I still can't see them. I previously had this software on my MacBook OS 10.8 and had no problems with it. How can I correct this?

Okay, I tried reducing the display resolution and that made the problem worse. So, for some reason, I decided to push the green plus button on the upper left corner of the screen. I have never used it before as I have always assumed this zoomed your window to full-size similar to a PC. Guess what? That fixed the problem and my panel bin and effects or layers are there! But not both at the same time??? Wondering if that is a PSE11 thing or if there's still a little problem? I had an older version before.

What is the reason that it is possible to search for (explore) color themes from within the Color Themes panel in InDesign and Photoshop, but not in Illustrator? Seems a bit odd…

When I open new window browser has inverted color scheme and no window title.

When I open 1st window in FF top of the page looks usual - like this http://imagestun.com/hosting/kartinki/ff1.jpg
But when I try to open something in a new window, this new window has strange color scheme at the top and no title, like this

If I switch from window mode to full screen mode and vice versa everything gets to look normal.
I've used Classic Theme Reestorer addon, but the same problem occurs when this addon is uninstalled. Restaring computer, reinstalling firefox etc didn't help, I still get these annoying white letters in the main menu when I try to open 2 or more firefox windows.
Is there any way to fix it?

Thanks, I followed your advice and disabled everyting then started turning addons one by one. The problem was caused by Hola Unblocker, now everything is ok.

On opening Elements 2, color picker and hexadecimal values not working.

On opening Elements 2, foreground color is white but changes to yellow if a file or image is opened. Checked hexadecimal values and they are the same. Any ideas as to what has gone awry or what can be done to correct this? Operating system is Windows XP.

Adobe Reader changes windows color scheme after launching

We have been using heavily adobe reader. the problem we have encountered is that after launching adober reader on windows 7 pro, default color scheme changes and it is being displayed as if we are on safe mode.
We could not find a solution so far. Hope you would provide me some info in order to fix it.

Interesting! What was the color scheme prior to launch? Does this problem happen on every launch of Reader X? What if you restore the color scheme and re-launch Reader? If possible can you stick a screenshot of the issue you just described.

Light Terminal Color-Scheme?

I've been using a dark zenburn-like color-scheme for ages, but now, it looks a bit disintegrated with my light gtk/wm-theme.
I didn't see anyone using a bright terminal/vim color-scheme.
Is someone using a brighter color-scheme and can someone recommend me one? There is a huge colorscheme-test page for vim color-schemes but there isn't something for terminal schemes.

For sure. It's my first experiment of "colors by combination". It is not perfect but more of "the first breed of an exploration".

Color schema or color background

It is really strange that the desktop application has only the black font on withe backgroud.
I think that some color schema and a free color configuration must be provided.

Here are the 3 solutions which would help
1. Select Quick selection tool (Shortcut A). Now drag over the image to select the background which is bright white. Now choose "Layers Menu>New Adjustment Layer>Brightness Contrast" and then press "OK" . Then move the sliders for brightness until you seems to get the desired result.
2. You can like wise use the Hue Saturation adjustment layer command.
3. Another way is to first select the background which is bright white using quick selection tool . Then select the Burn Tool (Press "O" thric) . Now for range option select "Hightlights". Choose a soft brush . Now paint over the background . Adjust the exposure slider (Which determines the strength of burn tool) until you get the desired result.

Wallpaper, kbfx menu buttons, color scheme

Over time I've been dabbling a bit with my arch install and recently started playing with apearence. Thought I would share a few of my graphics for kde. Although, my tastes might be a little weird compared to most!

here is a color scheme and preview for kde, and some kbfx menu buttons I made using the arch logo, although one set of buttons uses the Chinese version of the word start, but you could easily modify them. The color scheme along with smi-transparency on menus, I think looks totally awsome over the wallpaper..

I thought about sharing some of my helper scripts I made, but even though they make my life easier, I decided they're too weird for sharing...

The icons on top of your screenshot (except the firefox one) are made by you?
I like them, kinda clean... Why not release them on kde-look? There are a lot of "unfinished" icon themes available (just in the spirit of ESR) on this site.
Well, the color scheme is indeed a little bit weird reminds me of my old commodore times somehow, but you could also share your kbfx buttons on kde-look, i bet there will be some chinese archers who like them...

In elements 11 all my icons are missing under the expert tab in the panel bins, How can I get these back?

I'm using Photoshop Elements 11 and I'm wanting to add some effects and graphics. I went under the expert tab and the panel bin for the effect and graphics seems like it's not loading the icons/options, it's just blank. How can I get the panel bin to display the effects and graphics options?

Go to
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\11.0
and delete the
ThumbDatabase.db3
Then go to
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\11.0\Locale\en_us
and delete the
MediaDatabase.db3
Then start the photoshop elements 11 editor and wait till the effects database rebuilds, which could take awhile, like 10 to 20 minutes, so just pse 11 idle so to speak until it completes.

Empty Panel Bin in Elements 10 Quick Fix - Please Help!

When I open Quick Fix there are tools on the left but no panels on the right. There should be Smart Fix, Lighting, Color, Balance and Sharpness all with their sliders. Without these panels I can't make adjustments in Quick Fix. "Rest Panels" does not bring them in. I think this is a software glitch because there have never been panels in the bin. I'm using a Mac

Well I did as you said. Uninstall, new account, new download and re-
install. Everything is as before. I have my photos (all tagged) Guided
and full are OK, Quick has tools but no panels. As before I was not
able to use the Akamai downloader I used the alternate method. I don't
know why Akamai won't work and I had forgotten that point until I
downloaded again. Could the version on the alternate download be
corrupted?
Where do I go from here? I can use menu commands to do everything but
I would really like to have the panels.

short answer: you can't.
long answer: most animations and 'moving' elements within iM are realized with a technology called QUARTZ. those animations are 'hardwired' in iM. You'd need a Developer-tool, tons of expertise and have to ignore the EULA you signed on installation/usage of iMovie, changing these parts of iLife.
I tried to change colors and fonts in some preset Titles - technically possible, but not within 'normal' usage
Make a enhancement suggestion, allowing iM to use plug-ins, add-ons, 'Jam Packs' in future versions of iMovie:

How do I make a custom brush image in a gradient color scheme in Photoshop Elements 12?

I want to make a custom brush image in a gradient color scheme. I know how to change the hue jitter, but I want to "paint" the image with a gradient between two colors. For example, I have an image of an octopus that I have used to create a custom brush. I want the top of the octopus to be hot pink and gradually fade into a deep orange at the end of the tentacles. Everything I've looked up just colors the background. Thanks in advance!

Try the following:
Open the octopus image
Open a Gradient Map Adjustment layer above this. There are several preset gradients, but in my version of the program I don't see one with pink to orange.
When you double click on the gradient bar in the Adjustments palette, this will open up the Gradient Editor, where you can tailor the gradient to your specifications with color and opacity stops. (see below)
This will apply the gradient to the entire picture. However, the adjustment layer has a built-in mask (the white rectangle).
Left click on this and paint with a black brush to hide the gradient outside of the octopus. If you go too far, you can correct with a white brush.
Now, as to the Gradient map adjustment layer, here is how to configure it:

Want to color label item in bin and have color show in timeline.

I have an edited sequence. I labeled some items in my bins with color. The color does not show on the clips in the timeline. Shouldn't it?
Will the color only transfer to the timeline if the clip was colored first and then edited in? Will the color not transfer retroactively?
Same for changing name of clip in the bin: name change does not update in timeline. Shouldn't it?
Also, is there a way to search for items in the timeline by clip or reel name?

Correct. You need to color it first for the color to be transferred to the timeline.

Yes, click on the timeline, hit Apple-F and type in the name you are looking for. Apple-G will get you to the next item.

There isn't a "remove color cast" command per se but there are Levels and Curves adjustments so you can effectively remove/diminish colors yourself.
