Elements 8 on iMac running 10.6.8
I'm running OS 10.6.8 on an iMac. I have Elements 8 loaded and running. Now when I went to open the program, I got a message suggesting that the program was incompatible with my system and that I might need to update or reinstall the program. So I tried to uninstall the program first but got the message that the software could not be installed because the file system of the OS volume was not supported and the volume should have a "local, writable, and non case-sensitive system. I got the same message when I tried to install it anyway.I don't know what happened. It used to work. Can someone help? I'd be grateful.
Uh oh. You can never, never restore Elements from a backup. PSE is not a nice tidy package in accordance with the apple developer guidelines. The installer is more like a shot of buckshot and strews stuff all over your hard drive in places where you'll never find all the necessary bits. You've made a big mess by trying that.
First download and run this, then do a manual search of your hard drive and delete all the bits you can find. Pay special attention to Applications and hard drive>library>application support>adobe.

I have had problems installing Elements 13 on an iMac running 10.9.5
I installed trial copy of Elements 13 on an iMac running 10.9.4.
All seemed fine...merged a panorama brilliantly. Filled in gaps...saved image.
Turned off iMac.
Next morning iMac would not turn on.
When eventually sorted with Apple tech support....iMac turned on and refused to print o Epson printer. Would print to HP.
Eventually had to do a harddrive erase and reload from internet.
iMac then behaved OK.
I would like Elements 13 but am very wary of installing inc axe the same thing happens again.
What reassurance can you give that Elements 13 is not bug ridden and will load Ok without screwing up my iMac completely?
FrancescaWell, I would look around this forum. How many people are complaining that PSE 13 destroyed their Macs? Don't you think that if that were really happening there'd be plenty of posts about it and lots of articles on the rest of the internet?
There are a fair number of problems with PSE 13 for various people (as there are with any version), but ruining hard drives isn't one of them. -
Elements 11 Organizer window is truncated at top, on iMac running 10.9.2, so I can't use Share function, etc.
Thank you very much. I changed the resolution from 2048 x 1152 to 1600 x 900, and it showed the bar with the Import, Media ... Create, Share buttons, but did not show the bar at the very top with the red, yellow and green buttons for closing, hiding and maximizing the window.
Then I noticed that Apple had an update to Mavericks available. Since I installed that, I can set the resolution back to 2048 x 1152 and still see the Import, etc. bar. I can live without the Close and Maximize buttons, but it does seem like there is a bug lurking here that either Adobe or Apple needs to fix. -
Is elements 9 compatible with iMAC running Mountain Lion?
I purchased an Epson Perfection V700 Photo Scanner and it came with a disk for Elements 9. I tried to downlaod the disk, but the organizer will not work. Is Elements 9 compatabile with an iMAC running Mountain Lion?

I'm suddenly seeing 2-point black boxes around any desktop icon I highlight, and around various elements in any window I'm working in. I have a G5 PPC iMac running 10.4.11. Neither restarting the machine nor running Mac Warrior has helped.
Thanks! I often inadvertently turn on the voiceover when I use the wrong keys to send an element to the back in Quark. Funny, I turned off the voiceover on my own, but never noticed that the black boxes had gone away until I saw your post.

Audio problem on iMac running Mavericks using FW
I have a brand new iMac running Mavericks. I have a 3Tb hybrid drive which I wonder whether this has something to do with my problem.
I am trying to use my Yamaha Motif XS rack with firewire to route audio. I bought a Thunderbolt to FW connector and a 800 to 400 lead.
I run iTunes and everything works fine for about 60 seconds and then the audio hiccups and stops. If I switch back to built in audio and then back to FW then I’m fine for another 60/70 seconds.
Can anyone advise?

In older versions of photoshop elements, the updater never worked, even when the applications were brand new.
I think the problem is that the Adobe Application Manager needs to be updated to a newer version, but since there will be no more updates for pse 9, it may just be better to install the two updates
from the link above and leave well enough alone.

Installing Lightroom 5.4 on an iMac running Mavericks
When I attempted to install Lightroom 5 on my iMac, running the latest version of Mavericks, it just stopped with a blank Installer window.
The iMac is a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB DDR3 running in 64-bit mode (checked with command line).
This has happened both with a disc install and a download version.
Any ideas?I'll try installing under the Admin account I keep as a seperate high level management account on the iMac.
I had some problems installing Elements a couple of weeks ago as well - had to use the alternate method.
Checked the installation log - nothing seems to stand out as a problem - very strange, however Mavericks is the first Mac OS I have had problems with - on installation it managed to corrupt all the permissions of my user accounts, and there are still a few niggles that I am not happy with - still better than Windows though (have to live with that at work - yuck). -
iMac Running OSX 10.6.8: hard drive replaced: old PSE3 (don't like/want any of the more modern versions) reloaded fine until serial number entered, then told it couldn't activate or some such, I think because it was a single computer sale and now the new hard drive registers as a new/second computer. The program will run just fine on this computer if adobe will let me install it and activate it. Can this be done, or must I just go buy an old one on eBay, and if so will that also fail to activate? (Some one here last night wanted me to get on Skype for help, as if an old crustacean like me has Skype. No, it'll have to be done right here in print.) Can anyone help?

I have an old imac running OSX 10.5.8 which for various reasons was never updated further
Processor is 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
It has iphoto 08 7.1.5 (378)
I also have a macbook Pro. Running OSX 10.7.5
Processor 2.4 GHz intelCore i5
memory 4GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
This one runs iphoto 11 v 9.2.3 (629.52)
On Both these Machines I want to save all the files and particularly the photos to an external hard drive. I can do the files etc but having problems with iphoto. I want a complete functional copy of both libraries in iphoto and I want to be able to access it and pick and choose which ones I want to use but not STORE on a new Macbook. I want to access the photos from several machines and just browse through them.
Then .. once I have a proper copy of everything I want to reformat the old imac and install the newest OSX it will run given its Processor etc. any advice on which OSX it can cope with?
Also possibly upgrade the macbook pro , so that they talk to each other properly, will access icloud and will also both be compatible with a new macbook pro running Yosimite...
But I want to be able to pick and choose which files I move to the new macbook. Both photos and general filing.
This may be easy for an expert but I am not an expert, I am reasonably competent.. but definitely not an expert and I don't want to mess up and lose stuff.

I have an IMAP mailbox that seems to only show mail 7 days on my iMac running Snow Leopard. However, on my MacBook Pro I can see all old mail that I have not deleted. It is running the next operating system (Lion?). Does anyone know how I can get all my old mail back on my iMac. It is my primary computer and I need some of those old messages. I have tried to rebuild the mailbox but it has not done anything.
I have tried to rebuild the mailbox to no avail. The mailbox behavior says: Drafts (not checked) store draft messages on the server, Notes (checked) show not in Inbox, Sent (checked) Store sent messages on the server Delete sent messages when (option never selected), Junt (not checked) store junk messages on the server Delete junk messages when (option never selected), Trash (checked) moves deleted messages to the Trash mailbox and (checked) store deleted messages on the server Permanently erase deleted messages when (one month old option selected).
I have not set up any rules that I know of other than a signature, in the very least I have not changed any. -
I bought a new imac running Loin with Office 2011. I am the only mac in the office and the Server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software other than webmail access through our website. It looks as though 2011 is not compatible with 2003 per some searches online, but what are some options I have to gain full access again? I purchased parallels in hopes that this my help and I am able to use remote desktop connection to log on to server but can not drag and drop files I need. There is a shared drive on that Server we all use to exchange files.
The two main issues are gaining access to my email again and ability to drag and drop files from mac to pc. I hope this is enough info to get some solutions.
PS - IT person says my iMac's IP is what his server does not understand so that is why I can not login.Office 2011 is not compatbile with Exchange 2003.

Thank you, Morty S.I have a perfectly-working LW 4/600 with exactly the same issue. They use localtalk - a long obsolete network connection, that doesn't connect to modern networks, and appletalk as the comm protocol.
I think the only choice you have is to use an old powerPC Mac as print server. You tell me which old Mac you have, with a localtalk connector, or that runs OS X 10.4 or earlier (so it speaks appletalk), and I'll tell you how I've done it for the past 11 years or so.
Right now I use a G4 running 10.4.11, plus an etherMac ethernet to localtalk adapter.
Before, I used a PMac 6100 running LPD server software. -
I've just bought a reconditioned iMac running OSX 10.7.5 but I can't get my HP Laserjet 2200DN printer up and running. I used a Firewire cable to transfer all my stuff over to the iMac from a Power PC G5. However, the printer driver disappeared. The Print & Scan pane in System Preferences is now empty and when I press the + to add a printer the Add Printer pane has nothing in it either. Apple says os 10.7.5 already has printer software installled, but not on my iMac. It says in its list of compatible printers that it supports HP Laserjet 2200 (is absence of the 'DN' suffx siginifcant?) Apple also says to use Software Update to check if software is needed. Manual downloading from Apple, who say they've taken over from HP for this software doesnt' work either - I get a two-part download, one file is an unopenable '.dmg' document and the other is a '.dmg.part' document, similarly unopenable. I'm completely stumped. The HP Laserjet 2200DN is an excellent printer that serves all my needs but I'm beginning to think it may be too old for the iMac, but I sincerely hope not. Anybody out there with workable advice about how to solve this issue? I'd love to hear from you.
Alex CarrFirstly, in Safari you will find a button on the right side of the toolbar: note the downward pointing arrow. If you click on that you will get the download progress bar.
I don't know what may be the problem with getting the driver working. I suggest you open Print & Scan preferences. CTRL- or RIGHT-click anywhere in the blank Printers list and click on the "Reset printing system" item in the context menu.
Assuming you have installed the printer drivers you downloaded by running the installer that appears after you mount the .dmg file, click on the Add [+] button to Add a printer. A window should open with your printer listed, hopefully (the printer must be turned on and already connected to the computer. Do a direct connection while getting this configuration set up.) Select the printer. Now, if the driver model name does not appear in the "Use:" dropdown menu, you will need to look for it in the list of available drivers. Once found, select it, then click on the Add button. -
Slow Finder on iMac running OS 10.8.5

I have a problem with my iMac running OS 10.8.5. It started from nowhere. All the software is running absolutely fine but as soon as I get to a finder and trying to open a folder and/or move between files in a folder within the finder or click a preview, a movie or a photo, it takes 10-15 seconds for a computer to "wake up". It just spinning until it finally catches is up and eventually it does what I want. Than I can browse in the finder between files with no problem until I pause for few minutes and when I am trying to navigate through folders again the same "wake up" problem. Its very annoying and really slows me down. I went through Apple utilities few times, I thought maybe its going to fix the problem, but it made no difference. I thought maybe its my USB devices and disconnected them all but still the same problem. Any suggestions how to fix it.

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

IS THE SITUATION HOPELESS
I used Target mode to transfer files to a new i7 iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 from an older Dual core Intel machine (EMC 2105) also on 10.6.8. but originally Tiger 10.4. The operation was successful and I ejected the disk icon from the new machine and powered down the old machine. When this was restarted the next day there was a grey screen with flashing Mac symbol alternating with a 'no entry' sign and occasionally a question mark.Keyboard and mouse were unusable so k inserted the original instal disc (No.1 for 10.4. with installer 1.0.4) which came with the machine in 2006 in an attempt to boot from this. The ensuing window said this was not possible and now it cannot be ejected.I have tried everything ! It offers Disk Utility and other options like Terminal but that doesn't work either.I 'repaired disk' and that was pronounced o.k. None of the various keystrokes at start up will work, and the computer will only offer the installer disc continually.The only option would seem to be is to erase the hard drive completely from the disc in the machine.I don't want to do this as there is still material which I need to recover. I think the drive has in some way been corrupted by using it in target mode, and I don't know if there are any other options to try.

No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.
• I don't suppose there is anything I can do to 'put back' lost items from a separate Time Machine drive which has an up to date backup on it.
There is probably a way to do that - seems to me that's one of the reasons for a Time Machine volume.
On the other hand, if the Time Machine volume is rigidly linked to the now-absent OS on the original drive, there may be no way to effectively access the files in the TM archive.
I know that using a cloned drive would work well in this instance.
I have no experience with Time Machine, so perhaps someone who has will chime in with suggestions.
With the machine in TDM with the other machine, have you tried running Disk Utility to see if you can effect repairs to the drive? -
