Elements 8, PDF's lock up when printing

Hi all....
I've used Elements 8 for quite sometime and have never had an issue until lately.
The program runs smoothly...until I try to print.
Any time I hit the print button, it freezes up. Does the same thing when trying to print anything from an adobe pdf as well.
I am running Windows 7 on a Dell and have an Epson printer as default.
I have tried:
uninstalling/ reinstalling the printer
uninstalling/ reinstalling elements
resetting elements wit the ctrl-alt-shift while clicking 'edit' on the welcome screen and hitting 'yes' with the pop-up window
I've tried the suggestion of moving the twain in the plug-in under import/ export.
Nothing works....
any ideas?

wow...I asked this quite sometime ago...no one has a possible solution?

The prints from the memory card are much sharper than when printed from Adobe Elements Is this normal or is there a reason ? help please

No, that's not that simple. Printing means resizing (resampling) most of the time and depending on your printer type/printer driver, a default sharpening is generally applied.
By the way, more sharpening does not necessarily mean better quality. That's the advantage of being able to control both resizing and sharpening from the editing software. There has been many books written on the 'art' of sharpening.

Objects missing when exporting to PDF, but show up when printing to PDF

Hi - I'm working with someone, both of us in InDesign CS4, and she has some documents that cause a few random objects to just go missing when exported to PDF (same on my computer). But when printing to PDF, they show up fine. They also show up fine if we recreate each individual object, but that can end up being a lot of work. She prefers to export to PDF because of quality. I'm drawing a blank on this one!
The attached file shows the issue. The green blocks just don't want to show up when exporting.

The links are just the PDFs of the black and white portions and don't really matter too much since they show up fine when exporting or printing to PDF. Our main concern is the green blocks, which are indeed the green areas of the plan you pointed out. They are actually separate objects created directly within InDesign that can be moved and adjusted.
I just updated to 6.0.4 and that didn't help. I wonder if this may be a variant of the bugs I was reading about with master pages and certain things not showing up when creating PDFs or printing (even though none of these things are on the master page)?

CM2320fxi Locks up when printing from Ubuntu 9.10

We have an HP CM2320fxi here that has just recently started to lock up occasionally when a print job is sent from Ubuntu 9.10. It doesn't seem to lock up for print jobs from other OSs including Windows XP and Leopard.
What happens is, the print job gets sent, the printer makes sounds as though it is about to start a print job, and then it stops responding. The red exclamation point on the main console lights up with the ready light above it also lit and the LCD screen is black and unresponsive. The only way to get the printer to respond again is to power cycle it.
The downside is that because the printer becomes unresponsive and doesn't show any error messages, troubleshooting the issue has been very challenging. So I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue and if they have any advice.

I am experiencing the same problem with our CM2320fxi (printer locks up, flashing lights, black screen, power off/on to reset). On occassion, there is a printout with "GET_CONFIG" on the first page and random characters on the second page, which seems to indicate a communication error. I have not been able to identify the application that causes the error, but I suspect that it is related to network printing in general. We had to install the HP universal driver (PCL 5) in order to install the printer on our server. Any assistance you can provide will be a great help!

Pdf file size increases when printing resulting in slow print speed.

I have a .pdf that is saved at 27MB. When I send it to an HP Designjet T520 36in printer the file size jumps up to 136MB and the printing is incredibly slow. This does not happen on all files on a few random ones. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

It's entirely normal for file size to increase. PDFs are much more compressed than print streams. For some printers the print size is almost constant (a huge bitmap), for others, it's a collection of graphical items and the size varies enormously. Rarely anything you can do.

Avoiding the 'Save PDF File As' dialog when printing to the adobe PDF printer from a service

Hello, can someone please help.
I have Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro installed.
I have an in house application which (among many other things) effectively monitors a directory and prints the file to the default printer. It works fine when run as an application.
I have set the defaults on the Adobe PDF printer to put the output PDF file into a directory and not to open it so it works silently without prompts.
When I run my application as a service, it brings up the 'Save PDF File As' dialog and I would like to avoid this. My impression is that if I put the right registry key in then it will work.
I do not want to do any scripting if I can avoid it.

Thank for your help Bill, but changing settings in the distiller did not seem to work. As my application prints directly to the default application without using anything specific to Acrobat, I was hoping there was a simple way forward. A colleague suggested copying registry entries from the account I logged on as to the S-1-5-18 entry, then rebooting. This had no effect as the prompt still comes up.
Aandi, I don't have the Acrobat SDK or any experience of it.
Also I'm not sure where any code/script would sit since the application is stable and so I would rather not change it.
If it amounts to a few lines of javascript sitting outside the application then that would be of interest.

Preview PDF files drop letters when printed.

I have a problem with PDF's printing without lower-case letter o's and upper-case X's. This is both to my Brother Laser Printer AND my HP C309.
It may be Mac software at a low level, because when I print a PDF to Yojimbo, the lower-case o's and upper-case X's are also missing. There may be others, but those are the two letters I noticed.
The screen displays are OK and PDF's generated to Yojimbo from Safari are OK.
The same downloaded PDF file that dropped the o's and X's print OK when opened with Acrobat Reader.
Is this a Preview problem? I'm running Preview Version 5.0.3 (504.1).

Thanks for the pointers. I did find some duplicates with Font Book and deleted them. I don't have any duplicates between the System and User fonts and have not installed Office X. I do have Office 98 installed under Fusion.
As I mentioned, the PDF files print fine with Acrobat Reader. This is a very recent error. I have a long list of PDF files saved to Yojimbo and none have any dropped letters until yesterday.

Mail Ver 6.2 Locks up when Printing

Hi,
My Dad has the new MBP 15" Retina running Mountain Lion Version 10.8.2 and Mail version 6.2. Printer is Samsung SCX-3200 Series.
He used to print from it about a month ago. Now when he tries to print an email from Mail, the Mail application locks up. Any suggestions?
I have removed the printer and readded the printer and no dice.
I was wondering if anyne have any suggestions?

Edited PDF changes to Horizontal when Printing to PDF

We use Adobe Pro Online.
When my supervisor edits a PDF and then Prints to Adobe PDF (rather than saving) it is changing it to a Horizontal view. She claims she hasn't changed any settings, and that her print settings are not set to landscape. She also says that when she rotates the image back the way it should be and again tries to Print to Adobe PDF it again changes it to horizontal view. She said this just started a couple of days ago. Can anyone think of a reason why it might be doing this? When she saves or saves as it does not change to horizontal view.
My supervisor was taught to always Print to PDF instead of Saving. She claims it makes it indelible. I don't agree, I think she needs to use the protection settings, and save or save as. She is set in her ways, and wants to be able to continue doing it her way, but the horizontal view makes it unuseable.

You can't do that. It's a setting of the printer used by the user on their computer, not of your file. The only way you can set this option is if the user prints the file via a button that you've added to it (in Acrobat), that uses a script that sets that option for them.

Elements 7 - Using Custoim ICC Profiles when Printing in Editor

I have downloaded some custom ICC profiles specific for some papers I use. They are there - I can select the profile printing from the organizer - Color Management>Print space - but they do not appear in the list of options if printing in Editor. Am I forced to print thru Organizer now?

Try moving the Print window all the way to the left. If you have a small screen, move it further so that the left half of the Print window is off-screen. Then you should be able to see the scroll bar of the drop-down list of profiles.
This bug was identified in PSE 6, and I had thought it was fixed in PSE 7. But evidently not I was just able to reproduce it on my laptop.

Preview show all attachment (pdf) as locked

just i want to ask about why (preview.app) show all attachment (pdf) as locked and when you want to unlocked press in the top of file to open it , why there is some step to do this ,not like before in snow leopard. and how i install old preview to work on it in side Mac lion ox????

I have Brother Control Center3 and if I click the "Configuration" button in Control Center and then click on the type of scan (e.g., image, file, ocr, etc) there is a window where I can select the file type of the output, the application that opens with the document after the scan and the ability to adjust a number of other settings. I suspect that this was similar in earlier versions but if not you can likely download a later version from the Brother support site.

Why does my Acrobat Pro 9 PDF print driver either lock up or become confused as to where it should store a file when printing a document from within the Firefox browser?

I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 for creating .pdf files on a Windows XP SP3 platform. Firefox 6.0.2 is my browser of choice. This question only applies to the .pdf printing process. All other printer drivers work fine with this version of Firefox.
In attempt to save paper, I choose to print most documents in an electronic .pdf format using the PDF print driver and save them to my USB drive. Before upgrading my Firefox version to 6.0.2 this process seemed to work fine but after upgrading the .pdf print process seems to be experiencing problems. This particular printing process will cause Firefox to lock up when the distiller tries to print the file to what I believe is a temporary folder under the Adobe folder. When it does this I am sometimes able to force it to complete the process but frequently it will only produce a log not a .pdf file. On other occasions the distiller will just lock up mid print without producing any kind of error message. In both cases I will frequently have to use Windows Task Manager to break out of the process which then shuts down the Firefox browser. I don't seem to have any problems when I use Internet Explorer to perform the same function. As far as I am aware I am running the most current drivers as Adobe automatically pushes down updates to me as they become available. Any ideas how I can overcome this issue or is it inherent to the new version of Firefox?

The PDF file itself does not control the "print as image" preference, which should always be turned OFF unless there's a specific need to rasterize the entire page, and is turned off by default in all Acrobat and Adobe Reader installations.
What's the filetype for the ultralight font and what export setting* are you using in ID? If you're exporting to earlier than PDF1.7, OpenType fonts will be converted and may experience some small changes in shape if their hint definitions aren't done right.
*As a side note, bear in mind that InDesign does not use any part of Acrobat when exporting PDFs, so questions specific to that stage in the process should be posted to the InDesign forums.

When printing to PDF Acrobat locks up at spooling

Running Windows XP and Office 2007 and Arcobat 8 (with most recent web updated)
When printing to PDF from any program (Word, Excel, Quickbooks, even Acrobat), the creating PDF window locks up and the print job gets stuck at the spooling status. No errors are displayed, I'm unable to cancel anything. Seemed to start happening after downloading the latest updates.
Have tried to repair installation 3 times, reinstalled program 2 times, with no sucess. Have run this version for over three months with no issues beforehand.
Help!!!!

Thanks, will try that. Just have to work out Word settings so the conversion is seamless. Word tends to drop images and such when I do that.
In the interim, I've downloaded the CutePDF driver and all seems to be working. Ultimately the issue seems to lie with the PDF driver provided by Acrobat, but no matter how many times I reinstall the driver I still get the same problem.
