Elements 8 won't open editor

I've been using elements 8 for about a year and all of a sudden as of today I can't open editor.  I get an error message that says " Adobe has detected that the application ...... has unexpectedly quite" - crash report.  No matter what I do I can't get into editor to edit a photo.  How can I resolve this problem?  Any help is appreciated.

Sorry I can't help, but I have the same problem.
If you have found a solution, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Try making a direct desktop icon for the Editor and see if you can launch the program directly from the desktop.
Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New à Shortcut
    Browse to Computer OS C:
And find the PSE Editor application in Program Files or Program Files (x86) on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
    C: à Program Files à Adobe à Photoshop Elements 9
Within the Photoshop elements 9 folder find PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe (with the blue icon)
Select that file and click Next.
    Then click Finish.
You should now be able to launch by double clicking on the new desktop icon, bypassing the welcome screen.

  • I re-installed my Mac OS, but now Elements won't open. Licensing stopped working. Error code 150:30

I re-installed my Mac OS, but now Elements won't open. Licensing stopped working. Error code 150:30.
This is Photoshop Elements 8, and I have the original disc with serial number so I can re-install that.
The probelm is I'd need to de-cactivate the serial number before un-installing, and I need to open the programme to do that.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Okay, I've found that this is a recognised problem.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/error-licensing-stopped-mac-os.html
Error "Licensing has stopped working" | Mac OS
and all the solutions tell me to find the folder FlexNet Publisher in my library.
Problem is FlexNet Publisher doesn't seem to exist there. Can't find it anywhere on my hard drive.
Gettting down to the end of that page gives me the following info....
The FlexNet folders and files required to run Adobe applications can become corrupted or have permission problems if moved from one machine to another. They can also be damaged through a Time Machine system restore. FlexNet service licensing failures cannot be resolved by reinstalling the application or by using the Adobe CS5 Cleaner Tool. If permissions issues prevent the FlexNet licensing service from launching, accessing data, or communicating with Adobe processes, a licensing failure occurs.
Well it looks like backing everything up using Time Machine may have caused all this problem. Anyone know how to get Flexnet Publisher back?

  • I transferred my apps from one Mac to a new one and now my Elements won't open Why?

I transferred my apps from one Mac to a new one and now my Elements won't open Why?

You can never, never transfer an installed copy of PSE. PSE is not a tidy package like most mac apps; the installer strews stuff all over your hard drive and neither you nor the migration assistant can ever hope to find all the necessary bits and pieces.
Now you have kind of a mess to clean up. First download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
It won't seem to do anything, but it's necessary in order for you to be able to successfully manually remove what did get transferred so that you can reinstall PSE.
Then go around and remove all the bits you can find, not only from applications but from your user>library>preferences and especially from hard drive>library>application support. Note that those are two different libraries.
Then you can reinstall PSE from scratch.

  • Photoshop Elements won't open

I've been using this computer in my workshop for simple things, mostly email, fb, etc. It has had Photoshop CS (very old, not sure what version) and Photoshop Elements 2.0 on it and both have been working fine. Just brought it into the house to use in the office after my slightly newer, but still old, iMac G5 died. I'm hoping to use it for a short time while figuring out what to do next regarding a newer computer. I've gotten it connected to printer and scanner with a bit of trouble due to trying to find old drivers again. That's really all I'm aware of having changed. Now suddenly PE and P CS won't open. I reinstalled PE (which is what I use most); no change. It starts to open, then just quits. I've clicked on "report" and see the following:
    Date/Time:      2012-04-11 00:02:41.529 -0400
    OS Version:     10.4.11 (Build 8S165)
    Report Version: 4
    Command: Photoshop Elements 2.0
    Path:    /Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 2/Photoshop Elements 2.0/Contents/MacOS/Photoshop Elements 2.0
    Parent:  WindowServer [66]
    Version: 2.0 (2.0)
    PID:    246
    Thread: 0
    Exception:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes:      KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x6f726b2e
Of course there's lots more but that's the part with the bad words like "bad access" and "invalid address" and such. I'm hoping someone can tell me what is going on; perhaps you know what the above means? Or maybe there is some other clue here? I'd be grateful. Thanks for reading.

PS Just to be clear, no major changes in software; I have been running both Photoshop programs on this computer, with OS 10.4.11, since getting the computer as a hand-me-down a couple of months ago. I did update OS, Safari, and a few other things at that time, as well as maxing the memory, deleting many programs and files I'll never use, etc. Installed PE 2.0 at that time. CS was already on it. Both have worked just fine. When I reinstalled PE the installer said it had installed properly.

Well, just in case someone else checks in here with the same problem. Got both programs working just fine again. I hunted up other threads on the same topic; several had posts suggesting trashing certain plug-ins and/or prefs. I'd tell you exactly what but I did a bunch and not sure which solved it. With Photoshop CS 8.0, I deleted plist in user library; no change; then deleted twain plug-in, now it opens just fine. I don't exactly comprehend why, but so far so good. If I have any other useful observations I will post them.

PS I ordered a PRAM battery and will replace that anyway, just because I'm certain it is quite old; perhaps this will prevent other problems popping up. I need to get a bit more use out of this nice old machine!

  • PS Elements won't open image

I'm having a strange problem with the PS Elements 9 software on my wife's mini mac computer.  The program launches fine, and when I try to open a picture (any picture - I've tried lots) I get the various dialog boxes ("reading Photshop format", color mode conversion progress bar, etc.), but then no window showing the photograph.  No error message.   Also, none of the windows (info, history, layers, etc.) that I've selected show up.  If I go to the file menu to "open recent", it lists the photos I've told it to open but have never seen.
I've tried uninstalling the software and then reinstalling it, but continue to have the same problem.  It worked fine when I last used it several months ago.  I have various other Photoshop software on my other computers (CS 5, CS 4) and have never had this problem.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

The editor prefs often get corrupted. You may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts.
Hold down the Cmd+Opt+Shift keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Or go to applications and hold down the three keys whilst double clicking on the Photoshop Elements Editor application.
You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
    Click on Yes
Close down Elements and re-open it in the normal way - then wait whilst it rebuilds the preferences.

  • Elements 8.0 won't open editor in Win7 64bit. "error is unrecoverable"

I have been running Elements 8.0 w/o problems on my Windows 7 (64 bit) machine. All of a sudden, I am unsable to open the Edit function. The Organizer will open, but not the Edit. This is the error message I receive:
I removed the program and reloaded it, but error persists!

    Hi,
Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below:
    Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Solution 3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
    Solution 4:
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go  to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements  10\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.

  • Installed Elements 8 - won't open editor ?

Hi all, I have Photoshop Elements 7 on my laptop already and I just bought Elements 8. I installed Elements 8 and it said that it had detected Elements 7 and I could only have one running at a time. I then installed it. It copied all the files over but just as it going to the last millimetre on the progress bar it crashed the PC. I restarted it and saw that there was now a PSE8 icon on the desktop so double clicked that and it opened the welcome screen. When I click on EDIT it starts to load the editor but then after 5 seconds it stops loading. No error messages or screen changes etc, just stops. So I click it again and the same thing happens ?
I have put the disk back into the laptop, in case it hadn't installed correctly and it goes through the same steps but then I don't get a repair/modify prompt, just a prompt saying its already installed under that destination folder.
Do I have to uninstall it and try reinstalling it again or is it fine, just something from with a specific file etc??
    Help!
    Many thanks

Thanks for the reply. Well I have made some sort of progress, It was not playing ball so I went into start>control panel>uninstall a program and tried to uninstall it but it said that only installed programs could be installed? So I managed to uninstall it by deleted all the files in the c>programfiles>adobe>elements8 etc. I then put the disk in and the serial number was already in there rather than me enter it? It went through the install process only then to say 'rolling back' and is then removed everything and said that the installation process had been interupted and for me to try again. So then I did a disk clean up and restarted the PC. Once restarted I then put the disk in the CD drive and away we go again. This time like the first time it asked me to enter the serial key into the box and it goes through the installation process. Success it then works BUT after coming out of it and going back into it literally 10 minutes later it says 'our records indicate that this serial key has been used already to set up Elementson two other machines which is the maximum allowed. I have 3 options 1) adobe can check the serial key again as I have deactivated from the other PC and Adobe will validate this 2) I have a different serial key or 3) 30 day trial.
The person I bought it off said they had deactivated it from thier PC
Would the earlier problems have caused the software to activate on my PC but then after I deleted it, it still thinks that its activated so its used up 1 licence or would the previous issues have no bearing and the seller has sold me a copy thats had both licences used ?

  • Please help - Photoshop Elements won't open

    Hi,
I just bought photoshop elements, installed it and everything was fine.  Like a dope, I downloaded a graphic from a website, and tons of adware/malware was also loaded on my computer.  I couldn't stand all the popups and junk, so i used the Dell Restore to restore the computer to the point right before I loaded photoshop.  After that was done, I reloaded photoshop, and now I can't get in to the program.  (The popups went away.) The opening screen comes up, I choose "photo editor" instead of "organize"...the moving ribbon comes up as if it was thinking, and then it goes away and the opening screen stays there.  No error messages.  If I choose Organize, I can get in to the photo organizing section with no problem.
I'm running Windows 7.  I tried uninstalling photoshop, reinstalling it, uninstalling it, ran the cc cleaner, reinstalled it, uninstalled it and removed the preferences, rebooted a million times, uninstalled and reinstalled again....I still can't get in.  If I click on a .psd file the opening screen comes up and it sill just sits there.  I went into Organize and loaded an update, that went fine, but still can't get in to photoshop.  I can't do the restore to an earlier date, since I installed and uninstalled the program so many times, I lost that ability.
I see a lot of people asking the same question in these forums, but I don't see any answers.  Can anyone help?  I appreciate any assistance you can give me!  I was so excited to use the program, and now it seems like I'll be shut out until I get a new computer, which is not going to happen soon!
    Thank you,
    Holly

Quit the editor, then restart it while holding down Ctrl+alt+shift. Keep those keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

  • PS8 Elements won't launch editor

On start up of the program where it gives you the option to organize or edit, edit usually launches the editor and I can work in it. It brings up the load bar but then just goes away and I'm still at the same start up. Nothing has changed on my computer that I know of, I'm the only user. Not sure what happened, just woke up one day wanting to use it and it did this. Any help would be appreciated cause I really don't have the money to go buy another program.
