Elements 9 and 16 bit images?

Simple Question - does anyone have a full list of what Elements 9 will allow with 16 bit images?

The best thing to do is open a 16 bit file and experiment with what's available.

    Does Elements 12 support 32 bit images in a 64 bit OS?

    Yes.  It makes no difference how your image was created - on 64 bit
    software or 32 bit software.  It is still a document and so it should
    load on any system running any photo-editing software.
    PSE is still a 32 bit software for windows;  Nobody knows when will 64
    bit version come out.

  • Best way to combine 8-bit and 16-bit image files?

    I produce large photographic art prints by combining my own edited 16-bit RAW photo images with 8-bit stock photo images and 8-bit photoshop artwork. I used to just reduce my 16-bit photos to 8-bit and then edit my composite image as 8-bit, but I ran into banding and other problems in the color gradients I created later in my composite image.
    I want my composite image to be 16-bit to get more accurate colors and better gradients. What is the best way to bring 8-bit image files into my composition and maintain best quality? Is it good to convert 8-bit images to 16-bit in PS before importing? I also heard about bringing 8-bit images in as Smart Objects? Thanks for any help on this.

    Thanks Jack and Noel. My workflow usually starts w. a 16-bit RAW image brought into Photoshop as the background layer of the master file. Color space is AdobeRGB. Then 8-bit stock photo and art elements (objects) are brought in by dragging the open 8-bit image up to the master image file tab, and then dropping it back into the image window after the file opens.
    Should I use the "Paste In" command instead? I usually avoid copy/paste since some of my element files are usually over 100MB and that seems to challenge my Mac after a while.
    Could I convert the 8-bit image files prior to import, like Noel suggests (Image>Mode>16bits)?  Thanks.
    There is no need to convert 8bit open documents to 16bit mode Photoshop will convert the copied layers to 16bit bit during the drag copy.  Converting the open document would just increase Photoshop RAM usage every layer pixels bytes used  would double in size.
    If you element files are over 100MB they are most likely layered files.  If all you need is a composite you should avoid using Place for that will needlessly inflate your document size. Instead open the element file create a new layer that is a stamp visible layer (Shift+Alt|Opt+Ctrl|Cmd+E) and drag that layer to you document then close nosave your element file. Copy only copies the targeted layer or there is a Copy Merge that copies the composit merge of all targeted layers. It a bit hard to create an action that would be able to use Copy or Copy Merge. Using the above stamp visible way can be made into an action. You also do not want to drag all the layers to your document if you just need a composit layer.
    You could also automate the element file copy with an action.
    Action Step 1 Insert menu into File>Open this will be an interactive step you must select a file to open. When the action is played.
    Step 2 (Shift+Alt|Opt+Ctrl|Cmd+N) Create a new empty layer This will always work
    Step 3 (Shift+Alt|Opt+Ctrl|Cmd+E) stamp visible layers into the new layer
    Step 4 (Ctrl|Cmd+A) select all
    Step 5 (Ctrl|Cmd+C) Copy
    Step 6 Close current document no save
    Step 7 (Ctrl|Cmd+P) Paste into the document your working on Photoshop will convert to 16bit if the document is 16bit mode and the clipboard content is 8bit.
    When you use Photoshop and do something.  Think to yourself how did Photoshop do what you asked it to do. Thing about what is involved what layers must be used etc. How is the feature/function done.

  • Photoshop Elements 7 and Panasonic Raw images

    I recently bought a Panasonic Luminex partly in order to shoot RAW images. My research told me that Photoshop Elements 6 and above would accept it. My PE 7 is telling me, however, that it cannot open the image because it is the wrong kind of file. Any guidance?

    What model of Panosonic Lumix is it?
    Unless it's Lumix DMC-GH1, then in all likelihood, you'll need to use the 8.2 dng converter
    to convert your lumix camera raw files to dng copies, which then pse 7 should open.

  • PS Elements 6 and extracting an image

    I am just learning PSE6 and am thoroughly NOT enjoying it. I find the program confusing and complicated. However, I'm hoping to get some help here.
    What I want to do is extract an image from a picture and place that image onto my website without any of the background attached. I'm finding this difficult to do...can anyone help?

    Deborah,
    In order to use the image on a web site, you must save it in a format that supports the transparent background. PSD, TIFF, PNG, PNG-24, GIF, EPS support transparency. JPG, BMP do not. Most likely you want GIF since this is supported by most web browsers.

  • Photoshop Elements 9 and 16 bit support

    Some days ago i bought a copy of Elements 9. I do not own a previous version. I wasn't aware at the time of purchace that elements 9 does not support 16 bit editing. It was a mistake, buying without trying.
    I am willing to pay extra for a patch or update that converts elememts to a 16 bit application. Your opinion on this will be much appreciated.

    MTstuner has described a way to handle layers in 16 bit. I haven't fully tried this yet but it appears to be working, quite clever really.

    Thanks Carlo!
    3x16 !! wow, Normen Koren was right in saying PWP is a very powerful application. I've this and a few others, but Elements is more fancier.

  • Understanding 32 bits image mode

    Hi
    i'm developping a plugin in which higher image quality means higher sound quality.
    though when i'm in mode 32 bits, colors don't behave the same way as in 8 bits or 16 bits.
    for example, in 8 bits i have
    R = 128;
    g = 255;
    b = 128;
    it will not be the same color as in 32 bits:
    R = 0.5;
    G = 1;
    B = 0.5;
    (in 32 bits, is it much brighter)
    how come ?
    how do i do to use 32 bits mode with the same color scheme as in 8 or 16 bits?
    thanks
    Jeff

    thank you
    8 bits and 16 bits images have a gamma 1.0, this is in 32 bits that the gamma is higher.
    How do i set gamma = 1 for 32 bits images? I want 8, 16 and 32 bits images behave the same.
    thanks
    Jeff

  • Using Photoshop Elements as external editor with Aperture 3: What are issues with requiring 8-bit image?

    While I would do most of my photo edits with Aperture there may be times I would like to do special effects that a PSE might offer with layers.  I am considering purchasing PSE 10 and was concerned with having to lose information by saving as an 8-bit image.  Can anyone enlighten me of the circumstances when this would be of concern?
    Thanks.

    If you had to do high quality printing larger than 8x10.
    Before buying PSE trial Pixelmator and try GIMP. Note that GIMP (now v2.6) will have 16-bit per channel with v3.0.

    Hi Hardy Tasso,
    Are you seeing this problem since first launch of PSE13 after installation or recently?
    Please try:
    Keep Ctrl + Alt + Shift keys pressed while launching PSE13 Editor and click OK on the dialog that comes next.

    I downloaded OpenOffice and am able to print documents (in particular, the same document I created in MS Word). I guess MS Word is to blame. I believe the issue is concluded, but I'd welcome any comments about the Active Directory, as I might have a problem
    with OpenOffice in the future regarding that.

  • Transferring images from Elements 8 to Elements 12 and keeping album organisation

    I upgraded from Elements 8 to Elements 12 early in 2014. How do I transfer all my E8 images in their proper category and album organisation into E12? (I cannot see them in E12). How do I stop E8 loading when I plug in a camera or card? Can I safely uninstall E8 without losing images and albums?

    Thanks again and final resulting question:
    If I uninstall the older version, will I be able to continue working on
    productions I have in progress right now? Specifically, I am half way
    through two major productions combining still images (processed through
    Photoshop Elements 8) and video footage imported into Premiere Elements 8.
    If I uninstall Elements 8 can I just continue to work on and complete these
    projects in PRE12 OR would I first have to respond to a lot of "where is . .
    ." questions OR would I have to go back Square 1? And what would happen to
    all the keyword tags assigned to individual files in Organizer 8 - would
    they be picked up automatically by Organizer 12?
    Many Thanks,

  • 64-bit Photoshop Elements 12 and Premier Elements 12

    Hi All,
    I'm new here and I have not had good luck searching the FAQs so, here I am.  I have a new laptop with Windows 8.  I just purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and Premier Elements 12 and installed them.  My OS  is x64 but the install didn't give me a choice.  Now I notice that they are 32-bit versions installed.  Simple question...Do they come in 640bit?  If so, how do I get it?  64 bit can access more RAM so it would definitely be better.

    Ned,
    Thanx so much for pointing me in that direction.  It definately says, " and in 64-bit or 32-bit mode on Windows 7 and Windows 8 & 8.1;" which means it should be able to run in 64- mode but I'm not sure how to make that happen.  I work for a software company and our software has two different versions that are installed.  So do you know if I have the wrong version or do they have some kind of switch that I missed setting on installation?
    Thanx
