Elements 9 Hand and Crop tools

When using Hand and Crop in Editor of Elem. 9  seeing three tiny symbols that make no sense.  Not seeing hand or crop squares as  in other versions of Elem.  Tools work OK but symbols wrong.  All other tools work OK and their on screen symbols are OK.

  • Acrobat Reader DC: Find the hand and select tools

Here is a problem and a solution. In Adobe Reader DC you may want to use the hand tool and the select tool. But you won't get them to show in the main toolbar, no matter how deep you dig in the Show/Hide menu.
SOLUTION: hover your mouse in the lower part of the screen to show the Page Control tools. That's where you'll see the hand and select tools.
    The complete steps are:
    1. Click View > Show/Hide > Page Controls, and make sure that Show Page Controls is selected.
    2. The page controls will appear either on your toolbar or at the bottom of the screen.
    3. To move the page controls to the bottom of the screen (or back to your toolbar), click the icon that looks like a bar with a downwards arrow.
    4. You will only be able to see the hand and select tools when the page controls are at the bottom of your screen.
Adobe, I usually love your software, but I spent a half hour looking for a hand icon. Frustration.  >:-((

    OK.
H to get the hand tool, and
V to return to the selection tool.

And Sara, please tell them to write a complete manual for DC soon.

  • Lightroom 3 Beta-Image Rotate and Crop Tool

    Good Morning Adobe,
First of all let me say Lightroom 3 is fantastic! I do have a couple of suggestions that might make the image editing more efficient. I find that I use the image rotate and crop tools frequently and think that possibly locating these 2 features below the image in the tool bar with the loupe view/zoom fit/before and after will allow the user to edit the images more efficiantly.
I believe that this is an incredible program and can't wait to see the finished product!
I will offer more suggestions as they evolve.
Thank you Adobe! You are the BEST!
    D.A.

Thank you...I discovered this answer online from another post last night and tried it.  (Since I didn't re-size the thumbnails, I wasn't aware that you could do this.)  After re-starting Lightroom and my computer, the crop issue corrected itself.  Thank you very much for your response.  It worked!

  • Problem With the Marquee and Crop Tools

I have just upgraded to Photoshop CS5.
Whenever I drag out a rectangular marquee, elliptical marquee, or crop lines, while in the process of dragging, it draws the selection ("marching ants") from the center-out. It's as though I am holding down the option key, even when I am not. It's particularly annoying.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is this some kind of glitch? Is there anything I can do to fix this?

You know, the more I use it, the more I realize that it's all sorts of things beyond the Marquee and Crop tools. It's "glitching" all over the place, and, you're right: it is doing things as though modifier keys like shift or option are being held down, even thought they're not.
As for the OS version: I haven't noticed anything weird happening yet on my work computer, which is still 10.6.4.  The one that has the problem is my laptop, which is new, and it started out with CS5 on 10.6.5. So it seems consistent with the theory that 10.6.5 is part of the problem.
I logged out and then back in, as per some suggestions I derived from past threads, and that seems to have fixed it. At least for now. Folks are saying, though, that it is only temporary until the issue returns.

  • CS4 Control of Selection tool and Cropping tool errors in Windows 7

The cropping tool and some selection tools seem to work poorly in my Windows 7 machine. How about yours?

They work fine here too. Possibly resetting the prefferences would cure the problem. I'd give it a try especially if the tools had worked then stopped.

  • Straightening and Crop tool not working.  What to do?

I've been working with photos all morning, and now neither my Straightening Tool or Crop Tool are working.  What to do?

Close and re-launch Aperture.  Let us know if that doesn't take care of it.
I try to close Aperture once an hour.  It pushes my hardware (and, likely, OS) to several of its limits.  Re-launching the program rinses out any crud that has accumulated (that's not _exactly_ technically correct, but ... ).

  • Temporary Hand and Zoom tools not working occasionally in InDesign, PS and Illustrator

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.5 and I'm using my Creative Cloud subscription of version CS6 for InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.  I periodically "lose" the ability to use the modifier key shortcuts ("Hand" and "Zoom") and so far the only solution I've found is to restart my machine, which is time consuming and disruptive to my workflow. I would appreciate it if anyone could give me some advice/guidance to resolve this issue. Thanks.

Wow, that might just be the answer! Thank you, Steve, for the speedy reply.
Even though I've been using the modifier keys for ages with the Adobe products, this issue has only been happening for about 4-6 months, and the past 1 month mulitiple times a day now. So I sure hope your suggestion does the trick from now on.
    Thanks again!

  • Lightroom 4.3 problems, filmstrip and crop tool

I am noticing some issues in Lightroom 4.3.  Can you please tell me how to have picks and ratings appear in the filmstrip.  I have this selected in Preferences and previously was able to see picks and ratings.
Also, when I crop an image now, I am unable to move the photo within the crop (I don't see the "hand".)  Any suggestions on correcting this?

  • LR, Photoshop CC and cropping tool

    Hi,
when sending an image in Photoshop CC from LR 5.3 after cropping by "Modify in", the cropping is lost in Photoshop CC ! And nothing repairs that.
All softwares are updated on Mac OS 10.8.5 and Windows 7 64b.
    Thanks

  • Cannot change tools and cannot use selection or crop tools

I am using Photoshop Extended CS6.  A new problem has started to occur recently.  I can select a tool, but I can't change the tool type. For example, I can select the Lasso Tool and when I right-click the tool fly-out appears, but I cannot select a tool from the fly-out to change the tool type.  The editing tools, at least the ones I can select, still work except for the selection and crop tools.  For the crop tool, the crop lines appear at the edge of the image but they cannot be moved.  For the selection tools, nothing is selected.  I can still use menu commands such as Canvas Size.
This happens when I open a file or start a new file.  I have Windows 7, 4G memory and nothing else running.  I have tried 32-bt and 64-bit versions.
This has happened intermittently for a month or two.  In the past, freeing up space on a hard drive seemed to help.  But now I have 50G free on one drive and 30G free on another so I don't see how that could be the problem.  Rebooting allows me to use the crop tool once, but then the problem reoccurs.
    Ideas, anyone?

No keyboard macro programs installed.  Microsoft Security Essentials is installed.  It says it is up to date and there are no problems.  A keyboard test program found no problems. I have tried two USB keyboards with the same results  I have 10% free on my system drive: and 15% free on my second drive.
    More clues:
If I open Photoshop by opening a file, the problem immediately occurs. If I open Photoshop and then open a file, it works until I press a key as described above.
The problem only occurs in Photoshop. I’ve tried lots of other programs, including Premiere, Audition and Illustrator; they all work correctly.
The problem can occur without a keyboard attached.  As I described above, if I switch to another application (Windows Explorer in my test) and then switch back, the problem occurs.  This is true even if there is no internal keyboard and no USB keyboard.

  • Ken Burns and Crops

I intend to edit my 4:3 dv footage in 16:9 most likely at home on FCE or possibly at university on FCP.
Usually, up until this point anyway I've used imovie. I pretty much always go to File > Project Properties> and then set 16:9 (even though I use 4:3 footage). Then I just use the crop and ken burns tools to slide the video up and down at different points to cut any unwanted footage at the top and the bottom of the frames. In this instance I want to crop out unwanted furniture at the bottom of my shot during a wedding service and later to crop out high disco lights at the after party.
Today at university whilst having my first ever play on FCP I noticed the ken burns and crop tools were not as obvious as in imovie 09. Although I did mess with the cropping and key points a little I still have no idea. Most worryingly I couldn't figure out how to set the project up as a 16:9 (I told the bride and groom they would get it in widescreen). I did find the widescreen effect however but its not really what I'm looking for because I want the frame to be able to track up and down at different points along the timeline.
I will explore the program more tomorrow, any tips would be most appreciated.
    Thanks
    Kev

A myriad of reasons really. Firstly imovie 09 isn't to great at importing dv footage. I've been told iMovie HD 6 is better but then again I have no idea if you can switch a project to 16:9 in it and use it in the same way as 09.
Secondly I needed the smooth cam effect in FCP to sort some shaky bits of footage out.
Thirdly, they have FCP at my university and nobody is ever on the macs there (all on pc's), so the technician gave me free reign on one, my friend also said he would sell me FCE dirt cheap for my home computer (although this development hasn't happened yet).
Is there no way to shift the footage around like you can in imovie with a 16:9 crop

  • Elements 9 -crop tool and organizer

1; cannot open organizer - neither from edit, nor opening screen - why? 2; cannot locate the crop tool; is it hidden? how do I find it?

In answer to your remark I will go through the whole process again at a later date and re-post. It does not make any difference to the resultant Crop size whether you input cm or pixels. Here's a point for you though since you mentioned it. Check out the Ruler - does it look like the Crop is anywhere near 500cm x 100cm? Maybe you were so busy trying to find fault that you failed to see the forest for the trees?
I only find fault where it exists - not where it doesn't. As far as Forums go, I am a member of a few Forums and have not had this sort of problem with answers before where the reply posts tend toward trying to pretend a problem doesn't exist or trying to prove fault with the poster. Hmmm.  Again I wonder how many of these reply's are from people with some affiliation with Adobe?
I will finish by saying that just for you I will go through the whole pointless exercise again and make sure that the Pixels are indeed input.
    1. Opening File
    2. File Open.
    3. Resetting Crop Tool.
    4. Crop Tool reset and Measurement Boxes clear.
5.First Measurement Input. PLEASE NOTE 500 Pixels Input!
    6. Second Measurement Input. PLEASE NOTE 100 Pixels Input!
    7. Third Criteria Input. PLEASE NOTE 96dpi Input!
    8. All Input Data correct and ready to Crop to preset Width/Height/Dpi restrictions.
    9. OH DEAR IT DOESN'T WORK! Again it fails to give me a simple 500x100 pixel at 96dpi Crop Box!
After this reply post you may just get some idea of the frustration I am experiencing. As you can plainly see the Crop Box drawn goes to the very edges of the Image to be Cropped. Can you see the problem now? Maybe I should just go with my friend's suggestions and take a video of the process and post it on YouTube? Then go to my local Consumer Affairs Department! If you can find what I am supposedly doing wrong - please elucidate as I have followed both the prescribed steps in the somewhat Shoddy Online Help and also the suggested remedies posted on the Forum. All to no avail. It just Won't Work!

  • I have been using Photoshop Elements 8 for years. All of a sudden, the cropping tool changed: I cannot crop vertically or horizontally anymore--only diagonally. This has made it impossible for me to get the photo I want. I hope someone knows how to fix th

I have been using Elements 8 ever since it came out, and all of a sudden the cropping tool has changed: I can no longer crop horizontally or vertically, only diagonally. The up/down/side arrows have disappeared! Please help if you can, I'm no longer able to make my photos look their best. Thank you in advance.

Quit the editor (Quit PSE on a mac). Then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

  • My Elements 9 cropping tool just stopped working...crops the entire photo.

My Elements 9 cropping tool just started cropping the entire image away today.  Just got an Adobe air update last night. This is nothing I have done. All that's left after using my crop tool is a .jpg symbol. Please help.

First try resetting the tool. If that doesn't work delete the settings file by holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift as you start PSE and answering the prompt to delete.
